• Problems With SWT on Mac

  I've got a java project that uses an SWT UI and I'm having trouble deploying it on any Mac OS X computers. The program itself works perfectly on Windows when it is either run from within Eclipse or from a jar file. • bulls and cows game -- programming algorithm(python)

  This is a simulation of the game Cows and Bulls with three digit numbers I am trying to get the number of cows and bulls between two numbers. One of which is generated by the computer and the other is guessed by the user. I have parsed the two numbers I have so that now I have two lists with three elements each and each element is one of the digits in the number. So: 237 will give the list [2,3,7]. And I make sure that the relative indices are maintained.the general pattern is:(hundreds, tens, units). And these two lists are stored in the two lists: machine and person. ALGORITHM 1 So, I wrote the following code, The most intuitive algorithm: cows and bulls are initialized to 0 before the start of this loop. for x in person: if x in machine: if machine.index(x) == person.index(x): bulls += 1 print x,' in correct place' else: print x,' in wrong place' cows += 1 And I started testing this with different type of numbers guessed by the computer. Quite randomly, I decided on 277. And I guessed 447. Here, I got the first clue that this algorithm may not work. I got 1 cow and 0 bulls. Whereas I should have got 1 bull and 1 cow. This is a table of outputs with the first algorithm: Guess Output Expected Output 447 0 bull, 1 cow 1 bull, 1 cow 477 2 bulls, 0 cows 2 bulls, 0 cows 777 0 bulls, 3 cows 2 bulls, 0 cows So obviously this algorithm was not working when there are repeated digits in the number randomly selected by the computer. I tried to understand why these errors are taking place, But I could not. I have tried a lot but I just could not see any mistake in the algorithm(probably because I wrote it!) ALGORITHM 2 On thinking about this for a few days I tried this: cows and bulls are initialized to 0 before the start of this loop. for x in range(3): for y in range(3): if x == y and machine[x] == person[y]: bulls += 1 if not (x == y) and machine[x] == person[y]: cows += 1 I was more hopeful about this one. But when I tested this, this is what I got: Guess Output Expected Output 447 1 bull, 1 cow 1 bull, 1 cow 477 2 bulls, 2 cows 2 bulls, 0 cows 777 2 bulls, 4 cows 2 bulls, 0 cows The mistake I am making is quite clear here, I understood that the numbers were being counted again and again. i.e.: 277 versus 477 When you count for bulls then the 2 bulls come up and thats alright. But when you count for cows: the 7 in 277 at units place is matched with the 7 in 477 in tens place and thus a cow is generated. the 7 in 277 at tens place is matched with the 7 in 477 in units place and thus a cow is generated.' Here the matching is exactly right as I have written the code as per that. But this is not what I want. And I have no idea whatsoever on what to do after this. Furthermore... I would like to stress that both the algorithms work perfectly, if there are no repeated digits in the number selected by the computer. Please help me with this issue. P.S.: I have been thinking about this for over a week, But I could not post a question earlier as my account was blocked(from asking questions) because I asked a foolish question. • serializeArray doesn't include submit-button value

  Hi, I got two submit buttons in a form. One that deletes the post, and one to edit it. I want to display a fancybox with either the edit-form or a message saying that the user deleted the post. It's all decided by which button was pushed, with a "if(isset)"-sentence in edit.php. However I can't figure out how to get the value of the button within the serializeArray.. • Our winners- and some BBQ for everyone

  Congrats to our two winners for the first two comments on my last entry. Steve from Australia and John Lemon. Steve won since he was the first person over the International Date Line to see the post I made so late after a workday on Friday. So not only does he get to live in a country with the 2nd most beautiful women in the world, but now he gets some cool Oracle Swag, too. (Yes, I live on the beach in southern California, so you can guess where 1st place is for that other contest…Now if Steve happens to live in Manly, we may actually have a tie going…) OK, ok, for everyone else, you can be winners, too. How you ask? I will make you the envy of every guy and gal in your neighborhood or campsite. What follows is the way to smoke the best ribs you or anyone you know have ever tasted. Follow my instructions and give it a try. People at your party/cookout/campsite will tell you that they’re the best ribs they’ve ever had, and I will let you take all the credit. Yes, I fully realize this post is going to be longer than any post I’ve done yet. But let’s get serious here. Smoking meat is much more important, agreed? J In all honesty, this is a repeat of another blog I did, so I’m just copying and pasting. Step 1. Get some ribs. I actually really like Costco’s pack. They have both St. Louis and Baby Back. (They are the same ribs, but cut in half down the sides. St. Louis style is the ‘front’ of the ribs closest to the stomach, and ‘Baby back’ is the part of the ribs where is connects to the backbone). I like them both, so here you see I got one pack of each. About 4 racks to a pack. So these two packs for $25 each will feed about 16-20 of my guests. So around 3 bucks a person is a pretty good deal for the best ribs you’ll ever have. Step 2. Prep the ribs the night before you’re going to smoke. You need to trim them to fit your smoker racks, and also take off the membrane and add your rub. Then cover and set in fridge overnight. Here’s how to take off the membrane, which will not break down with heat and smoke like the rest of the meat, so must be removed. Use a butter knife to work in a ways between the membrane and the white bone. Just enough to make room for your finger. Try really hard not to poke through the membrane, you want to keep it whole. See how my gloved fingers can now start to lift up and pull off the membrane? This is what you are trying to do. It’s awesome when the whole thing can come off at once. This one is going great, maybe the best one I’ve ever done. Sometime, it falls apart and doesn't come off in one nice piece. I hate when that happens. Now, add your rub and pat it down once into the meat with your other hand. My rub is not secret. I got it from my mentor, a BBQ competitive chef who is currently ranked #1 in California and #3 in the nation on the BBQ circuit. He does full-day classes in southern California if anyone is interested in taking his class. Go to www.slapyodaddybbq.com to check him out. I tweaked his run recipe a tad and made my own. It’s one part Lawry’s, one part sugar, one part Montreal Steak Seasoning, one part garlic powder, one-half part red chili powder, one-half part paprika, and then 1/20th part cayenne. You can adjust that last ingredient, or leave it out. Real cheap stuff you can get at Costco. This lets you make enough rub to last about a year or two. Don’t make it all at once, make a shaker’s worth and use it up before you make more. Place it all in a bowl, mix well, and then add to a shaker like you see here. You can get a shaker with medium sized holes on it at any restaurant supply store or Smart & Final. The kind you see at pizza places for their red pepper flakes works best. Now cover and place in fridge overnight. Step 3. The next day. Ok, I’m ready to go. Get your stuff together. You will need your smoker, some good foil, a can of peach nectar, a bottle of Agave syrup, and a package of brown sugar. You will need this stuff later. I also use a clean spray bottle, and apple juice. Step 4. Make your fire, or turn on your electric smoker. In this example I’m using my portable charcoal smoker. I got this for only $40. I then modified it to be useful. Once modified, these guys actually work very well. Trust me, your food DOES NOT KNOW how expensive your smoker is. Someone who tells you that you need to spend a bunch of money on a smoker is an idiot. I also have an electric smoker that stays in my backyard. It’s cleaner and larger so I can smoke more food. But this little $40 one works great for going camping. Here is what my fire-bowl looks like. I leave a space in the middle open, and place cold charcoal and wood chucks in a circle going outwards. This makes it so when I dump the hot coals down the middle, they will slowly burn outwards, hitting different wood chucks at different times, allowing me to go 4-5 hours without having to even touch my fire. For ribs, I use apple and pecan wood. Pecan works for anything. Apple or any fruit wood is excellent for pork. So now I make my hot charcoal with a chimney only about half-full. I found a great use for that side-burner on my grill that I never use. It makes a fantastic chimney starter. You never use fluids of any kind, nor ever use that stupid charcoal that has lighter fluid built into it. Never, ever, ever. Step 5. Smoke. Add your ribs in the racks and stack them up in your smoker. I have a digital thermometer on a probe that I use to keep track of the temp in the smoker. I just lay the probe on the top rack and shut the lid. This cheap guy is a little harder to maintain the right temperature of around 225 F, so I do have to keep my eye on it more than my electric one or a more expensive charcoal one with the cool gadgets that regulate your temp for you. Every hour, spray apple juice all over your ribs using that spray bottle. After about 3 hours, you should have a very good crust (called the Bark) on your ribs. Once you have the Bark where you want it, carefully remove your ribs and place them in a tray. We are now ready for a very important part to make the flavor. Get a large piece of foil and place one rib section on it. Splash some of the peach nectar on it, and then a drizzle of the Agave syrup. Then, use your gloved hand to pack on some brown sugar. Do this on BOTH sides, and then completely wrap it up TIGHT in the foil. Do this for each rib section, and then place all the wrapped sections back into the smoker for another 4 to 6 hours. This is where the meat will get tender and flavorful. The first three hours is only to make the smoke bark. You don’t need smoke anymore, since the ribs are wrapped, you only need to keep the heat around 225 for the next 4-6 hours. Obviously you don’t spray anymore. Just time and slow heat. Be patient. It’s actually really hard to overdo it. You can let them go longer, and all that will happen is they will get even MORE tender!!! If you take them out too soon, they will be tough. How do you know? Take out one package (use long tongs) and open it up. If you grab a bone with your tongs and it just falls apart and breaks away from the rest of the meat, you are done!!! Enjoy!!! Step 6. Eat. It pulls apart like this when it’s done. By the way, smoking tri-tip is way easier. Just rub it with the same rub, and put in your smoker for about 2.5 hours at 250 F. That’s it. Low-maintenance. It comes out like this, with a fantastic smoke ring and amazing flavor. Thanks, and I will put up another good tip, about the ZFSSA, around the end of November. Steve

• How migrate my keyring (containing ssh passprases, nautilus remote filesystem, pgp passwords) and network manager connections?

  I changed the disk on my laptop and installed Ubuntu on the new disk. Old disk had 12.04 upgraded to 12.10 on it. Now I want to copy my old keyring with WiFi passwords, ftp passwords for nautilus and ssh key passphrases. I have the whole data from the old disk available (is now a USB disk and I did not delete the old data yet or do anything with it - I could still put it in the laptop and boot from it like nothing happened). On the new disc that is now in my laptop, I have installed 12.10 with the same password, user-id and username as on the old disk. Then I copied a few important config files from the old disk (e.g. ~/.firefox/, ~/.mozilla, ~/.skype and so on, which all worked fine... except for the key ring: The old methods of just copying ~/.gconf/... and ~/.gnome2/keyrings won't work. Did I miss something? 1. Edit: I figure one needs to copy files not located in the users home directory as well. I copied the whole old /home/confus (which is my home directory) to the fresh install to no effect. That whole copy is now reverted to the fresh install's home directory, so my /home/confus is as it was the after fresh install. 2. Edit: The folder /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections seems to be the place for WiFi passwords. Could be that /usr/share/keyrings is important as well for ssh keys - that's the only sensible thing that a search came up with: find /usr/ -name "*keyring* 3. Edit: Still no ssh and ftp passwords from the keyring. What I did: Convert old hard drive to usb drive Put new drive in the laptop and installed fresh version of 12.10 there (same uid, username and passwort) Booted from old hdd via USB and copied its /etc/NetwrokManager/system-connections, ~/.gconf/ and ~/.gnome2/keyrings, ~/.ssh over to the new disk. Confirmed that all keys on the old install work Booted from new disk Result: No passphrase for ssh keys, no ftp passwords in keyring. At least the WiFi passwords are migrated. 4. Edit: Boutny! • JQGrid and JQuery Autocomplete

  When implementing JQGrid 4.3.0, Jquery 1.6.2, and JQuery UI 1.8.16 Ive come across an issue with the Inline edit. When the inline edit is activated, some of the elements get assigned an auto complete. When the inline edit is canceld or saved, the auto complete does not always go away (selecting text by double clicking it then hitting delete, then hitting escape to exit row edit). Leaving the auto complete controls in edit mode when the row is no longer considered in edit mode. Perhaps you can tell me if there is a problem with the initialization or if I you are aware of an event post-"afterrestorefunc" that the fields can be returned to their "original" state. Original state being displayed as data in the JQGrid row. I've tried removing the DOM after row close, .remove() and .empty(): ... "afterrestorefunc": function(){ $('.ui-autocomplete-input').remove(); } ... but that causes other issues, such as the jqgrid is not able to find the cell when serializing the row for data or edit, and requires a refresh of the page, not just jqgrid, to be able to once again see the data from that row.   I have a simple application to store address details and edit them. I have been away from VB for a few years now and need to refreash my knowledge while working to a tight deadline. I have a general Sub responsible for displaying a form where user can add contact details (by pressing button add) and edit them (by pressing button edit). This sub is stored in a class Contact. The way it is supposed to work is that there is a list with all the contacts and when new contact is added a new entry is displayed. If user wants to edit given entry he or she selects it and presses edit button Public Sub Display() Dim C As New Contact C.Cont = InputBox("Enter a title for this contact.")   Hi guys. I'm creating a page that searches for an item and then be able to edit/update it. I was able to do it when it returns just one result but when it gives me multiple results I could only edit the very last item. You can tell it to leave the case alone, upper everything, upper only the keywords, lower everything. Accessing the Formatter Options We allow separate formatting options for different RDBMS. You need to make sure you’re accessing the ‘Oracle Formatting’ page in the preferences. You can then choose to edit the default options OR you can do what I have done – save the defaults as a new set of options. I’ve called my profile ‘JeffCustom.’ I can now switch back and forth now through different sets of formatting options. You need to hit the ‘Edit’ button to get to the formatting options editor.   I am one of the Recruiters for Oracle and work in our India Recruitment Team. When we are hiring for multiple positions we often hold Recruitment Events to interview a large number of people as effectively as possible. These Events are often held on the weekend as many people are not free to attend an all day event during the working week. Just recently during a recruitment campaign we were running I was tasked to set up a Recruitment Event for some roles we were hiring for. I have set up and run weekend recruitment events in the past which have all run smoothly. However, this time arranging this recruitment event was quite a challenge for me. The planned event was taking place on a Saturday. I had almost sent out the confirmed scheduled list of candidates to the respective hiring team on Friday and was on track for the event to take place, but unfortunately there was breaking news in the media that there was a strike called in the city because of some political agitations and protests taking place on the event day. The hiring manager had rushed to me asking for my thoughts and ideas. I was in two minds on what to do. One on hand I was not ready to cancel the event because of all the work that so many people had put into getting this prepared and also I did not want to reschedule the event at the last minute if I did not need to. On the other hand I understood it may be best to reschedule the event as people may not be able to attend based on the political protests taking place on the day. In the end I decided to gather and check for other options because this might cause confusion and a problem for the scheduled candidates to drive in to the venue. So we had concluded to reschedule our event plans and moved the event to the next week. The good news is that we successfully executed this recruitment drive the following Saturday. We were glad that 100% of the candidates we able to make it to the new interview date and despite all the agitations in the city we were successful in hiring people for all the roles we had open. Things do not always go as planned. The best laid plans can sometimes be for nought based on external factors outside of our control. What this experience has taught me is that rather than focus on the negatives when you are thrown a curveball the best approach is to stay flexible and focus on finding ways to reach your outcome. Your plans may need to change but you can still achieve the results you are after if you have the right mind set.

• Heightmap generation

  I want to implement something like this to create a heightmap: 'Place a group of coordinates evenly across a map, and give them height values within a certain range. Repeatedly create coordinates between all of those coordinates, setting their height by deriving a value that was a mean value of all the surrounding coordinates.' However, I'm not sure how I would go about it - I'm not sure how I could code the part where I place the coordinates in between the existing coordinates. Can anyone give any help/advice?

  I could do this easily with TextPad, then I got irritated with Textpad once I'd played with Notepad++. Now that I've removed Textpad: I want Notepad++ to take over the right-click Edit option in Explorer, and I want Notepad++ to come up when I type notepad in the command prompt. I know that Notepad++ has a shell extension that allows one to do right-click Edit in Notepad++. But my old right-click Edit link remains, and I keep finding myself clicking on it, only to be rewarded with an error.

In total, 114 people showed up to form 15 teams. Burger ITS & Friends team members with Ben Lower:  Shawn Weisfeld, Teresa Burger, Robert Burger, Harold Pulcher, Taylor Woolley, Cori Drew (not pictured), and Katlyn Drew (not pictured) We arrived Friday after a long day of work/driving.  Originally, our idea was to make a learning game for kids.  It was intended to be multi-simultaneous players dragging and dropping tiles into a canvas area for kids around 5 years old. We quickly learned that we were limited to two simultaneous players. After working on the game for the rest of the evening and into the next morning we decided that a fast multi-player game with hand gestures was not going to happen without going beyond what was provided with the API. If we were going to have something to show, it was time to switch gears. The next idea on the table was the Photo Anywhere Kiosk. The user can use voice and hand gestures to pick a place they would like to be.  After the user says a place (or anything they want) and then the word "search", the app uses Bing to display a bunch of images for him/her to choose from. With the use of hand gesture (grab and slide to move back and forth and push/pull to select an image) the user can get the perfect image to pose with. I couldn't get a snippet with the hand but when a the app is in use, a hand shows up to cue the user to use their hand to control it's movement. Once they chose an image, we use the Kinect background removal feature to super impose the user on that image. When they are in the perfect position, they say "save" to save the image. Currently, the image is saved in the images folder on the users account but there are many possibilities such as emailing it, posting to social media, etc.. • A Technique for Performing Cross-host Upgrades to FMW 11gR1

  The main tool used for the upgrade of iAS 10g mid-tier (data not stored in 10g meta-data repository schemas) environments to Fusion Middleware (FMW) 11gR1 is the FMW Upgrade Assistant (UA). This tool performs what we call an out-of-place upgrade which in a nut-shell means the following: Upgrade is performed by pointing the UA to a 10g source topology as well as an 11g destination topology. The destination topology must be created, using the standard FMW 11g installation and configuration process, prior to the execution of the UA. The UA carries over all of the required changes from the source environment to the destination. This approach has a number of advantages rooted in the fact that the source environment - which is presumably working well and serving its needs - is not disturbed during the upgrade process as the UA only performs read-only operations on it. The UA today can only perform such out-of-place upgrades when the source and destination topologies reside on the same machine. This can sometimes be an issue when the host on which the iAS 10g environment is installed is running at full capacity and installing new hardware for the purpose of the upgrade (in most cases what would be needed is extra memory) is completely infeasible. In such cases, upgrade across a different host is still possible by using the following technique: Backup your source environment and restore it on to a target machine. The backup and restore procedures for the iAS 10.1.2 components are described within this section of the release's Administration Guide. As described in the docs, the Oracle Application Server Backup and Recovery Tool provides capabilities for backing up the installation on one machine and restoring it on another which is exactly what you want to do for the purpose of cross host upgrade. Ensure that the restored environment on your target host is fully functional. Go through the upgrade steps on the target machine to perform the out-of-place upgrade using the UA. Although this process does add another big step to the overall upgrade process, it does make it possible to perform a cross-host upgrade to 11gR1 when necessary. The easiest approach would of course be to find a way of ensuring that the required hardware capacity for upgrade is available on the original 10g host. Using techniques such as scheduling the upgrade at low traffic times and/or temporarily stopping other processes running on the machine to clear up some memory might provide you the sufficient memory needed to perform the out-of-place upgrade and save you the need for using the backup/restore technique I have described in this post.

  If you sign your emails the same way most of the time, you can create signatures in Outlook that you can attach to your emails. Easily create a signature for business emails and a different one for personal emails. To create a new signature, open Outlook and click the File tab. Click Options in the menu list on the left side of the Account Information screen. On the Outlook Options dialog box, click Mail in the list of options on the left side of the dialog box. On the Mail screen, click Signatures in the Compose messages section. Click New under the Select signature to edit box on the Signatures and Stationery dialog box. A dialog box displays asking for a name for this signature. Enter a descriptive name in the edit box and click OK. You are returned to the Signatures and Stationery dialog box and the name you entered displays in the Select signature to edit box. If it’s the only signature, it will be automatically selected. Enter the text for your signature in the Edit signature box. Select the text and apply font, size, and other character and paragraph formatting as desired. Click OK to accept your changes and close the dialog box. Click OK on the Outlook Options dialog box to close it. Now, when you create a new email message, the default signature is added to the body of your email automatically. If you only have one signature set up, that will be the default signature.   HI: How to set the default font for different language in the xubuntu? For example, I am using xubuntu9.10(English release),and I do not like the default English and Chinese font. I have tried to use "Application-setting-appearance-fonts" to edit the default font,however it just work for the English. The default font of Chinese is "WenQuanYi Zen Hei". I do not like it. I want to use "Microsoft YaHei", I copy this file from my Win7 system. And I tried remove the "WenQuanYi Zen Hei" by "sudo aptitude remove ttf-wqy",it show me it is successfully removed. • FTP User cannot modify files but has correct permissions

  I have created a new user (foo) and when he logs in via ftp he cannot edit the files in the directory to which he has access. In the directory he can log into ls -l gives me: -rw-rw-r-- 1 root www-pub 6427 Nov 17 04:21 index.html The user belongs to the group www-pub. Here is the output of cat /etc/group to demonstrate that he is indeed in that group: ... www-pub:x:1001:ftpuser,www-data,foo foo:x:1002: *edit the permissions on the containing directory are: drwxrwsr-x 5 root www-pub 4096 Nov 17 02:53 thecontainingdir and the one above that: drwxrwsr-x 49 root www-pub 4096 Nov 16 02:40 thenextdirup So since he can log in via ftp and since the file he needs to edit has the correct permissions to let the group www-pub read and write the file and he is a member of that group, why can't he edit it (or upload anything)? Only when I change the file to 777 can he edit it. It's as if he's NOT in the group... but he is! What's going on?
