  • Is there a good way of automatically generating javascript client code from server side python

    - by tat.wright
I basically want to be able to: Write a few functions in python (with the minimum amount of extra meta data) Turn these functions into a web service (with the minimum of effort / boiler plate) Automatically generate some javascript functions / objects for rpc (this should prevent me from doing as many stupid things as possible like mistyping method names, forgetting the names of methods, passing the wrong number of arguments) Example python: def hello_world(): return "Hello world" javascript: ... <!-- This file is automatically generated (either dynamically or statically) --> <script src="http://myurl.com/webservice/client_side_javascript"> </script> ... <script> $('#button').click(function () { hello_world(function (data){ $('#label').text(data))) } </script> A bit of research has shown me some approaches that come close to this: Automatic generation of json-rpc services from functions with a little boiler plate code in python and then using jquery and json to do the calls (still easy to make mistakes with method names - still need to be aware of urls when calling, very irritating to write these calls yourself in the firebug shell) Using a library like soaplib to generate wsdl from python (by adding copious type information). And then somehow convert this into javascript (not sure if there is even a library to do this) But are there any approaches closer to what I want?

  • Looking for a good dev environment for OSGi bundles

    - by Riduidel
Hi, I'm currently investigating in the field of dev environment for OSGi bundles. My goal is to find a way to develop, test and debug with ease the bundles I'll be coding. Besides, I have some "cultural" requirements. I want to be able to use java continuous integration servers (typically, Hudson) As a consequence of that first requirement, I want to have a repeatable, one-click build process. My typical tool for that is maven. And finally, being long-term Eclipse user, and having the m2eclipse at hand to merge my eclipse env with my maven one, I obviously want to be able to test and debug with that IDE. So far, here are the infos I know I can use (and have already tested) maven-bundle-plugin, maven-ipojo-plugin which both offer clean packaging facilities I have tested maven pax (and eclipse pax) and am not really satisfied with both : maven pax generates a very heavy project, where adding dependencies is very error-prone (the maven pax:import-bundle command line, with all its arguments, is a hell per se) I have taken a look at Karaf, which seems to have some nice direct maven provisionning, but I don't know how to integrate it with my Eclipse, besides using the traditionnal JPDA bridge. However, it seems to be more production-oriented than dev-oriented, and as such may require heavy configuration to fit my need (although the reading of its user manual doesn't revedal that). Have you got any ideas ? Some maven/eclipse plugins ?

  • Anyone knows of a good addressbook implementation?

    - by Tsahi Levent-Levi
I am looking to add an address book to one of my programs. For that purpose, I want to have something that is flexible and customizable to the point of allowing me to hook up additional metadata to contacts in it from third parties. I don't mind paying for a solution as long as I get something that is usable for me. My requirements: Optimized to run on embedded devices Preferably in source code form Ability to add my own fields to contacts over those the address book provides out of the box Ability to plugin "stuff" to it to enhance it without changing its base code too much Has a C or C++ interface

  • Reference for good Android UI design patterns.

    - by sat
Hi, I would like to get some links for getting started with design patterns. My requirement is , (at Initial stage) How to go about developing a particular pattern , say customized ListView which can be shared across applications . e.g. Applications will call something like drawCustomizedListView(params...) and my code will draw the listview according to the parameters supplied. This is particularly useful when across the applications I have to draw customized views. My intention is, I should not repeat the same code everywhere for doing similar task. Any references for the above requirement ?

  • Good-looking Java Swing Look&Feel?

    - by eric
I'm working on an open-source Java Web Start application, and I'd like to give it a consistent theme across platforms. Metal is totally ugly, and I'm not particularly happy with Substance (esp. performance). What are the best Swing Look&Feel options out there today?

  • TortoiseSVN : Good 'patch file' viewer ?

    - by mishal153
Hi, The default patch file viewer is messy (ie. no side by side diff view etc). I tried setting the path of beyondCompare exe in "Settings-Unified Diff Viewer-custom", but beyond compare also behaves same as default diff tool. Is there a way to atleast allow side by side diff in patch files ? If so, what is the method ? My aim is to allow emailing of changes so that they can be reviewed before I commit them :) Mishal

  • Good practices for intialising properties ?

    - by Rubans
HI, I have a class property that is a list of strings, List. Sometimes this property is null or if it has been set but the list is empty then count is 0. However elsewhere in my code I need to check whether this property is set, so currently my code check whether it's null and count is 0 which seems messy. if(objectA.folders is null) { if(objectA.folders.count == 0) { // do something } } Any recommendation on how this should be handled? Maybe I should always initialise the property so that it's never null? Appolgies if this is a silly question.

  • a good smart phone for java development?

    - by pstanton
Hi all, I'd like to do some development of smart phone apps and my native programming language is java. The first application I'd like to write will need to be able to (attempt to) connect to a network (LAN or WiFi) automatically in the background (on a schedule). would an android phone be the best path or are there competitive purer java options?

  • What is a good Javascript RDFa parser implementation?

    - by tremoloqui
I am looking to implement a client side RDFa based formatting for a web application. This would be similar to Mark Birbeck's ubiquity-rdfa project. Mark's project looks fantastic but it has at least two drawbacks: It is slow. Adding RDFa formatting to a simple page causes a noticeable delay in page loading. It is complex. The ubiquity-rdfa project makes use of the w3c fresnel specification which is complex way to add simple annotations to client markup. I am looking for a lighter weight way of adding annotations through client code and I don't mind doing some work to get it. What I would like is a fast and reliable Javascript RDFa parser. Some implementations that I have found include: W3C RDFa bookmarklet parser Elias Torres RDFa extractor I am interested to know if you would recommend one of these, or another, RDFa Javascript implementation. Thanks!

  • Is it a oop good design ?

    - by remi bourgarel
Hi all, I'd like to know what you think about this part of our program is realized : We have in our database a list of campsite. Partners call us to get all the campsites near a GPS location or all the campsites which provide a bar (we call it a service). So how I realized it ? Here is our database : Campsite - ID - NAME - GPS_latitude - GPS_longitude CampsiteServices -Campsite_ID -Services_ID So my code (c# but it's not relevant, let say it's an OO language) looks like this public class SqlCodeCampsiteFilter{ public string SqlCode; public Dictionary<string, object> Parameters; } interface ISQLCampsiteFilter{ SqlCodeEngineCore CreateSQLCode(); } public class GpsLocationFilter : ISQLCampsiteFilter{ public float? GpsLatitude; public float? GpsLongitude; public SqlCodeEngineCore CreateSQLCode() { --return an sql code to filter on the gps location like dbo.getDistance(@gpsLat,@gpsLong,campsite.GPS_latitude,campsite.GPS_longitude) with the parameters } } public class ServiceFilter : : ISQLCampsiteFilter{ public int[] RequiredServicesID; public SqlCodeEngineCore CreateSQLCode() { --return an sql code to filter on the services "where ID IN (select CampsiteServices.Service_ID FROm CampsiteServices WHERE Service_ID in ...) } } So in my webservice code : List<ISQLFilterEngineCore> filters = new List<ISQLFilterEngineCore>(); if(gps_latitude.hasvalue && gps_longitude.hasvalue){ filters.Add (new GpsLocationFilter (gps_latitude.value,gps_longitude.value)); } if(required_services_id != null){ filters.Add (new ServiceFilter (required_services_id )); } string sql = "SELECT ID,NAME FROM campsite where 1=1" foreach(ISQLFilterEngineCore aFilter in filters){ SqlCodeCampsiteFilter code = aFilter.CreateSQLCode(); sql += code.SqlCode; mySqlCommand.AddParameters(code.Parameters);//add all the parameters to the sql command } return mySqlCommand.GetResults(); 1/ I don't use ORM for the simple reason that the system exists since 10 years and the only dev who is here since the beginning is starting to learn about difference between public and private. 2/ I don't like SP because : we can do override, and t-sql is not so funny to use :) So what do you think ? Is it clear ? Do you have any pattern that I should have a look to ? If something is not clear please ask

  • CakePHP: Action runs twice, for no good reason.

    - by tehstu
    Greetings everyone! I have a strange problem with my cake (cake_1.2.0.7296-rc2). My start()-action runs twice, under certain circumstances, even though only one request is made. The triggers seem to be : - loading an object like: $this-Questionnaire-read(null, $questionnaire_id); - accessing $this-data If I disable the call to loadAvertisement() from the start()-action, this does not happen. If I disable the two calls inside loadAdvertisement(): $questionnaire = $this-Questionnaire-read(null, $questionnaire_id); $question = $this-Questionnaire-Question-read(null, $question_id); ... then it doesn't happen either. Why? See my code below, the Controller is "questionnaires_controller". function checkValidQuestionnaire($id) { $this->layout = 'questionnaire_frontend_layout'; if (!$id) { $id = $this->Session->read('Questionnaire.id'); } if ($id) { $this->data = $this->Questionnaire->read(null, $id); //echo "from ".$questionnaire['Questionnaire']['validFrom']." ".date("y.m.d"); //echo " - to ".$questionnaire['Questionnaire']['validTo']." ".date("y.m.d"); if ($this->data['Questionnaire']['isPublished'] != 1 //|| $this->data['Questionnaire']['validTo'] < date("y.m.d") //|| $this->data['Questionnaire']['validTo'] < date("y.m.d") ) { $id = 0; $this->flash(__('Ungültiges Quiz. Weiter zum Archiv...', true), array('action'=>'archive')); } } else { $this->flash(__('Invalid Questionnaire', true), array('action'=>'intro')); } return $id; } function start($id = null) { $this->log("start"); $id = $this->checkValidQuestionnaire($id); //$questionnaire = $this->Questionnaire->read(null, $id); $this->set('questionnaire', $this->data); // reset flow-controlling session vars $this->Session->write('Questionnaire',array('id' => $id)); $this->Session->write('Questionnaire'.$id.'currQuestion', null); $this->Session->write('Questionnaire'.$id.'lastAnsweredQuestion', null); $this->Session->write('Questionnaire'.$id.'correctAnswersNum', null); $this->loadAdvertisement($id, 0); $this->Session->write('Questionnaire'.$id.'previewMode', $this->params['named']['preview_mode']); if (!$this->Session->read('Questionnaire'.$id.'previewMode')) { $questionnaire['Questionnaire']['participiantStartCount']++; $this->Questionnaire->save($questionnaire); } } function loadAdvertisement($questionnaire_id, $question_id) { //$questionnaire = array(); $questionnaire = $this->Questionnaire->read(null, $questionnaire_id); //$question = array(); $question = $this->Questionnaire->Question->read(null, $question_id); if (isset($question['Question']['advertisement_id']) && $question['Question']['advertisement_id'] > 0) { $this->set('advertisement', $this->Questionnaire->Question->Advertisement->read(null, $question['Question']['advertisement_id'])); } else if (isset($questionnaire['Questionnaire']['advertisement_id']) && $questionnaire['Questionnaire']['advertisement_id'] > 0) { $this->set('advertisement', $this->Questionnaire->Question->Advertisement->read(null, $questionnaire['Questionnaire']['advertisement_id'])); } } I really don't understand this... it don't think it's meant to be this way. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :) Regards, Stu

  • Is there a good Fogbugz client for Windows

    - by Sebastian
Funnily enough, I already found some pointers and a thread to an OSX client for Fogbugz. Here I am looking for a Windows client. I know there are web browsers for Windows, but I am looking for fast editing; fast changing of attributes ("one click"); zapping through cases and edits in milliseconds; no waiting for HTTP round trips, just pure speed. Are there any solutions for this?

  • Good FORTRAN books/tutorials for beginners?

    - by AndrejaKo
This may be a duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/31672/learning-fortran-in-the-modern-era, but that thread went on discussing legacy code concerns. Anyway, few months ago in a bookstore sale I picked up book called FORTRAN 66 for PDP-11. I found it interesting and decided it would be nice to learn FORTRAN. So I'm looking for some modern books/tutorials dealing with new versions of FORTRAN.

  • Good programming style when handling multiple objects

    - by Glitch
I've been programming a software version of a board game. Thus far I have written the classes which will correspond to physical objects on the game board. I'm well into writing the program logic, however I've found that many of the logic classes require access to the same objects. At first I was passing the appropriate objects to methods as they were called, but this was getting very tedious, particularly when the methods required many objects to perform their tasks. To solve this, I created a class which initialises and stores all the objects I need. This allows me to access an object from any class by calling Assets.dice(), for example. But now that I've thought about it, this doesn't seem right. This is why I'm here, I fear that I've created some sort of god class. Is this fear unfounded, or have I created a recipe for disaster?

  • Good Postgres graphical client for Windows

    - by alex
The name pretty much says it all. Right now I'm using Squirrel - it crashes frequently and suffers from memory problems (I've tried increasing the heap size). I don't need anything particularly fancy or full-featured - just something that won't take up 2.4 GB of RAM to store a 1.5 million line, 8 column result set.

  • What is a good SVN plugin for Eclipse?

    - by Thirler
A few years ago I've installed several SVN plugins for eclipse. At the time I wasn't impressed with their quality. Many were slow, buggy and couldn't cope with any file interactions that didn't go through the plugin. So I went back to just using TortoiseSVN for windows and command line for linux. Now I'm ready to give it another try. Which Subversion plugins for Eclipse are most popular currently and work well, how do they compare?

  • Good comments on changesets in sourcecontrol

    - by Roma
We need to develop guidelines for writing comments when we register code in version control system (such as TFS). E.g., when we submit a bugfix, we create a comment "Fixed bug #..." We tried to brainstorm on this topic, but most of the ideas bring too little added value. I would appreciate any suggestions for this.

  • What is a good Java web crawler library?

    - by DrDee
Hi, I am about to develop a crawler in Java but don't feel like reinventing the wheel. A quick Google search gives a whole bunch of Java libraries to build a web crawler. Besides that Nutch is of course a very robust package but seems a bit too advanced for my needs. I only need to crawl a handful websites a week containing a couple of 1000 pages each. Which open source Java library would you recommend considering: speed multithreading (or even distributed) extending it with new functionality active maintained and documentation?

  • Good portfolio projects

    - by David
Hi, I am a recent graduate and am looking to start a career in web development. Its kind of a catch 22 at the moment as I have a fair bit of programming experience from university but not really in web development and to get a job in web development a portfolio is typically required. So, I am looking to start a building a few application in order to have something to show potential employers. Im more into the backend stuff although am just as comfortable with front end development. Does anyone have any thoughts on some potential projects that would be both relatively quick (as i need to get a job soon!) to build but show off enough programming knowlege / skills to be impressive to employers. At the moment i am also learning to use the zend framework and I would hope to find work using such a framework (mvc). My initial thoughts would be things like a webmail app or maybe a custom CMS. Any ideas would be greatley appreciated.
