  • On Handling Dates in SQL

The calendar is inherently complex by the very nature of the astronomy that underlies the year, and the conflicting historical conventions. The handling of dates in TSQL is even more complex because, when SQL Server was Sybase, it was forced by the lack of prevailing standards in SQL to create its own ways of processing and formatting dates and times. Joe Celko looks forward to a future when it is possible to write standard SQL date-processing code with SQL Server.

  • MySQL Query GROUP_CONCAT Over Multiple Rows

    - by PeteGO
I'm getting name and address data out of generic question / answer data to create some kind of normalised reporting database. The query I've got uses group_concat and works for individual sets of questions but not for multiple sets. I've tried to simplify what I'm doing by using just forename and surname and just 3 records, 2 for 1 person and 1 for another. In reality though there are more than 300,000 records. Example of results with qs.Id = 1. QuestionSetId Forename Surname ------------------------------------------------------- 1 Bob Jones Example of results with qs.Id IN (1, 2, 3). QuestionSetId Forename Surname ------------------------------------------------------- 3 Bob,Bob,Frank Jones,Jones,Smith What I would like to see for qs.Id IN (1, 2, 3). QuestionSetId Forename Surname ------------------------------------------------------- 1 Bob Jones 2 Bob Jones 3 Frank Smith So how can I make the 2nd example return a separate row for each set of name and address information? I realise the current way the data is stored is "questionable" but I cannot change the way the data is stored. I can get sets of individual answers but not sure how to combine the others. My simplified Schema that I cannot change: CREATE TABLE StaticQuestion ( Id INT NOT NULL, StaticText VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE Question ( Id INT NOT NULL, Text VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE StaticQuestionQuestionLink ( Id INT NOT NULL, StaticQuestionId INT NOT NULL, QuestionId INT NOT NULL, DateEffective DATETIME NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE Answer ( Id INT NOT NULL, Text VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE QuestionSet ( Id INT NOT NULL, DateEffective DATETIME NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE QuestionAnswerLink ( Id INT NOT NULL, QuestionSetId INT NOT NULL, QuestionId INT NOT NULL, AnswerId INT NOT NULL, StaticQuestionId INT NOT NULL); Some example data for only forename and surname. INSERT INTO StaticQuestion (Id, StaticText) VALUES (1, 'FirstName'), (2, 'LastName'); INSERT INTO Question (Id, Text) VALUES (1, 'What is your first name?'), (2, 'What is your forename?'), (3, 'What is your Surname?'); INSERT INTO StaticQuestionQuestionLink (Id, StaticQuestionId, QuestionId, DateEffective) VALUES (1, 1, 1, '2001-01-01'), (2, 1, 2, '2008-08-08'), (3, 2, 3, '2001-01-01'); INSERT INTO Answer (Id, Text) VALUES (1, 'Bob'), (2, 'Jones'), (3, 'Bob'), (4, 'Jones'), (5, 'Frank'), (6, 'Smith'); INSERT INTO QuestionSet (Id, DateEffective) VALUES (1, '2002-03-25'), (2, '2009-05-05'), (3, '2009-08-06'); INSERT INTO QuestionAnswerLink (Id, QuestionSetId, QuestionId, AnswerId, StaticQuestionId) VALUES (1, 1, 1, 1, 1), (2, 1, 3, 2, 2), (3, 2, 2, 3, 1), (4, 2, 3, 4, 2), (5, 3, 2, 5, 1), (6, 3, 3, 6, 2); Just in case SQLFiddle is down here are the 3 queries from the examples I've linked to: 1: - working query but only on 1 set of data. SELECT MAX(QuestionSetId) AS QuestionSetId, GROUP_CONCAT(Forename) AS Forename, GROUP_CONCAT(Surname) AS Surname FROM (SELECT x.QuestionSetId, CASE x.StaticQuestionId WHEN 1 THEN Text END AS Forename, CASE x.StaticQuestionId WHEN 2 THEN Text END AS Surname FROM (SELECT (SELECT link.StaticQuestionId FROM StaticQuestionQuestionLink link WHERE link.Id = qa.QuestionId AND link.DateEffective <= qs.DateEffective AND link.StaticQuestionId IN (1, 2) ORDER BY link.DateEffective DESC LIMIT 1) AS StaticQuestionId, a.Text, qa.QuestionSetId FROM QuestionSet qs INNER JOIN QuestionAnswerLink qa ON qs.Id = qa.QuestionSetId INNER JOIN Answer a ON qa.AnswerId = a.Id WHERE qs.Id IN (1)) x) y 2: - working query but undesired results on multiple sets of data. SELECT MAX(QuestionSetId) AS QuestionSetId, GROUP_CONCAT(Forename) AS Forename, GROUP_CONCAT(Surname) AS Surname FROM (SELECT x.QuestionSetId, CASE x.StaticQuestionId WHEN 1 THEN Text END AS Forename, CASE x.StaticQuestionId WHEN 2 THEN Text END AS Surname FROM (SELECT (SELECT link.StaticQuestionId FROM StaticQuestionQuestionLink link WHERE link.Id = qa.QuestionId AND link.DateEffective <= qs.DateEffective AND link.StaticQuestionId IN (1, 2) ORDER BY link.DateEffective DESC LIMIT 1) AS StaticQuestionId, a.Text, qa.QuestionSetId FROM QuestionSet qs INNER JOIN QuestionAnswerLink qa ON qs.Id = qa.QuestionSetId INNER JOIN Answer a ON qa.AnswerId = a.Id WHERE qs.Id IN (1, 2, 3)) x) y 3: - working query on multiple sets of data only on 1 field (answer) though. • Error message: do not have authority to access this function

    - by Ross
Hi. I just reinstalled Windows on my computer after getting a virus. I worked with it for a while and everything worked as it should. I then used a backup of the computer that I had made a week or so earlier and copied the backup over my user folder. (That is, I took the folder named "Joe" from the backup drive and copied-replaced the whole thing over the folder named "Joe" on the new Windows install.) To do this I had to work from an Ubuntu live CD because some of the files were in use. Now the problem: After I did this copying my computer says that I have no authority. Anytime I try to access anything that is part of the operating system (Explorer, Personalize, Control Panel, etc) I get an error message that says I don't have the authority to do this. I am able to access things that aren't part of the OS: Chrome, Firefox, my accounting software, Rockbox, but nothing that is part of the OS. I only copied over the User file, so I didn't mess with the registry or anything, so I have no idea why this should be. Does anyone out in cyberspace have any idea? Thank you.

  • Emails sent to outlook.com not being delivered

    - by imukcedup
I'm having an issue that is a little strange. I have a cPanel webserver that I own and have root. I was testing out emailing and noticed some issues. When I send an email to outlook.com address the email sends ok but nothing is recieved at the outlook mailbox. I also dont get an 'email delivery failure notification' in any mailbox. 2014-06-12 09:53:47 SMTP connection from [127.0.0.1]:45334 (TCP/IP connection count = 1) 2014-06-12 09:53:47 1Wv5Rr-0003rA-2K <= [email protected] H=localhost (ourdomain.com) [127.0.0.1]:45334 P=esmtpa A=dovecot_login:joe S=667 [email protected] T="This is a test message" for [email protected] 2014-06-12 09:53:47 SMTP connection from localhost (ourdomain.com) [127.0.0.1]:45334 closed by QUIT 2014-06-12 09:53:50 cwd=/var/spool/MailScanner/incoming/1029481 5 args: /usr/sbin/exim -C /etc/exim_outgoing.conf -Mc 1Wv5Rr-0003rA-2K 2014-06-12 09:53:50 1Wv5Rr-0003rA-2K SMTP connection outbound 1402581230 1Wv5Rr-0003rA-2K ourdomain.com [email protected] 2014-06-12 09:53:50 1Wv5Rr-0003rA-2K => Test Account <[email protected]> R=archive_outgoing_email T=archiver_outgoing 2014-06-12 09:53:52 1Wv5Rr-0003rA-2K => [email protected] R=dkim_lookuphost T=dkim_remote_smtp H=mx1.hotmail.com [65.54.188.110] X=UNKNOWN:AES128-SHA256:128 C="250 <[email protected]> Queued mail for delivery" 2014-06-12 09:53:52 1Wv5Rr-0003rA-2K Completed I have checked the outlook.com's spam folders and its not in there either. This is a new IP address allocation from our ISP and there was a block on gmail addresses, so we know it was used for spam. But with gmail we got a notifaction of failure and I know outlook/microsoft also send out notification. Does anyone know what could be happening here? Thanks

  • How do I deliver mail for wildcard addresses to a particular user/alias/program?

    - by David M
I need to configure sendmail so that mail delivered for wildcard addresses is accepted for delivery and then delivered to a user, alias, or directly to a script. I can rewrite the envelope/headers any number of ways, but I don't know how to accept the wildcard address when it's provided in RCPT TO: Everything I've tried so far winds up with a 550 user unknown error. So here's a specific example: I want to be able to handle any address that consists of a series of digits followed by a dot followed by a word, then pipe that to a script. If the headers get rewritten, that's OK, but I need the envelope to contain the actual Delivered-To address. Here's the sort of SMTP session I need: 220 blah.foo.com ESMTP server ready; Thu, 22 Apr 2010 20:41:08 -0700 (PDT) HELO blort.foo.com 250 blah.foo.com Hello blort.foo.com [10.1.2.3], pleased to meet you MAIL FROM: <[email protected]> 250 2.1.0 <[email protected]>... Sender ok RCPT TO: <[email protected]> 250 2.1.5 <[email protected]>... Recipient ok I tried some stuff with regex maps, but I never got past 550 user unknown.

  • Must have local user to authenticate Samba to AD?

    - by Phil
I've got a CentOS 5.3 server with Samba running. I've joined this server to my domain in the hopes of allowing AD users some access to my Samba shares. I've found that this works, but only as long as the AD username that I'm trying to authenticate with is also a local user on the server. In other words, if I'm trying to access a share, and try to authenticate with the AD username "joe", I get errors unless I create a user named 'joe' on the server. I don't have to create a matching password or anything....the local user's password is always blank, so I do know that the authentication is actually happening against the AD. Here's my smb.conf file: [global] workgroup = <mydomain> server string = <snip> netbios name = HOME security = ADS realm = <mydomain.com> password server = <snip> auth methods = winbind log level = 1 log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log [amore] path = /var/www/amore browseable = yes writable = yes valid users = DOMAIN\user1 DOMAIN\user2 DOMAIN\user3 DOMAIN\user4 I would assume that my kerberos settings are fine, as I've joined the domain and can use wbinfo to see users and groups. However, I can provide that info if necessary. Anyone have any ideas?

"But most organizations driving a cloud project for the first time have no experience handling a service-based architecture and don't see the need for API management until after deployment. By then, it's too late." • Concatenate row values T-SQL

    - by Robert
I am trying to pull together some data for a report and need to concatenate the row values of one of the tables. Here is the basic table structure: Reviews ReviewID ReviewDate Reviewers ReviewerID ReviewID UserID Users UserID FName LName This is a M:M relationship. Each Review can have many Reviewers; each User can be associated with many Reviews. Basically, all I want to see is Reviews.ReviewID, Reviews.ReviewDate, and a concatenated string of the FName's of all the associated Users for that Review (comma delimited). Instead of: ReviewID---ReviewDate---User 1----------12/1/2009----Bob 1----------12/1/2009----Joe 1----------12/1/2009----Frank 2----------12/9/2009----Sue 2----------12/9/2009----Alice Display this: ReviewID---ReviewDate----Users 1----------12/1/2009-----Bob, Joe, Frank 2----------12/9/2009-----Sue, Alice I have found this article describing some ways to do this, but most of these seem to only deal with one table, not multiple; unfortunately, my SQL-fu is not strong enough to adapt these to my circumstances. I am particularly interested in the example on that site which utilizes FOR XML PATH() as that looks the cleanest and most straight forward. SELECT p1.CategoryId, ( SELECT ProductName + ', ' FROM Northwind.dbo.Products p2 WHERE p2.CategoryId = p1.CategoryId ORDER BY ProductName FOR XML PATH('') ) AS Products FROM Northwind.dbo.Products p1 GROUP BY CategoryId; Can anyone give me a hand with this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • How to convert Unicode strings (\u00e2, etc) into NSString for display?

    - by karlbecker_com
I am trying to support arbitrary unicode from a variety of international users. They have already put a bunch of data into sqlite databases on their iPhones, and now I want to capture the data into a database, then send it back to their device. Right now I am using a php page that is sending data back to from an internet mysql database. The data is saved in the mysql database properly, but when it's sent back it comes out as unicode text, such as Frank\u00e2\u0080\u0099s iPad instead of just Frank's iPad where the apostrophe should really be a curly apostrophe. The answer posted to another question indicates that there is no built-in Cocoa methods to convert the "\u00e2\u0080\u0099" portion of the unicode string from the webserver to an NSString object. Is this correct? That seems really surprising (and scarily disappointing), since Cocoa definitely allows input from many different Unicode characters, and I need to support any arbitrary language that I have never heard of, and all of the possible characters. I save them to and from the local sqlite database just fine now, but once I send it to a web server, then perhaps pull down different data, I want to ensure the data pulled from the web server is correctly formatted.
