• Circular gradient in android

  Im trying to make a gradient that emits from the middle of the screen in white, and turns to black as it moves toward the edges of the screen. As I make a "normal" gradient like this, I have been experimenting with different shapes: <shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:shape="rectangle"> <gradient android:startColor="#E9E9E9" android:endColor="#D4D4D4" android:angle="270"/> </shape> When using the "oval"-shape I at least got a round shape, but there were no gradient effect.   The standard should solve the following Authentication challenges like- Replay attacks Man in the Middle Plaintext attacks Dictionary attacks Brute force attacks Spoofing by counterfeit servers I have already looked at Amazon Web Services and that is one possibility. More importantly there seems to be two most common approaches: Use apiKey which is encoded in a similar fashion like AWS but is a post parameter to a request Use Http AuthenticationHeader and use a similar signature like AWS. Signature is typically obtained by signing a date stamp with an encrypted shared secret. This signature is therefore passed either as an apiKey or in the Http AuthenticationHeader. I would like to know weigh both the options from the community, who may have used one or more and would also like to explore other options that I am not considering. I would also use HTTPS to secure my services.

  in default css what should i predefined for <table>, td, th , thead, tbody, tfoot I have to work in a project there are so many tables with different color schemes and different type of alignment like in some table , i will need to horizontally align data of cell to right, sometime left, sometime right. same thing for vertical alignment, top, bottom and middle. some table will have thin border on row , some will have thick (same with column border). Some time i want to give different background color to particular row or column or in multiple row or column. So my question is: What code should i keep in css default for all tables and how to handle table with different style using ID and classes in multiple pages. I want to do every presentational thing with css. How to make ID classes for everything using semantic naming ? Which tags related to table can be useful?

• Extract anything that looks like links from large amount of data in python

  Hi, I have around 5 GB of html data which I want to process to find links to a set of websites and perform some additional filtering. Right now I use simple regexp for each site and iterate over them, searching for matches. In my case links can be outside of "a" tags and be not well formed in many ways(like "\n" in the middle of link) so I try to grab as much "links" as I can and check them later in other scripts(so no BeatifulSoup\lxml\etc). The problem is that my script is pretty slow, so I am thinking about any ways to speed it up. I am writing a set of test to check different approaches, but hope to get some advices :) Right now I am thinking about getting all links without filtering first(maybe using C module or standalone app, which doesn't use regexp but simple search to get start and end of every link) and then using regexp to match ones I need.

• Android return to the original position of the view after MotionEvent

  My application currently changes to another random int (View) when I let go of it (ACTION_UP) but the view stays in the same spot where I dropped it. • 302 vs 301 redirect in this specific case

  We have a website that displays information in a location based manner, i.e. it detects the IP of the visiting user and redirects him/her to an appropriate landing page; for e.g. a user coming from 'Egypt' will be redirected to http://www.mysite.com/egypt/cairo and a user visting from dubai will be redirected to http://www.mysite.com/uae/dubai, so on and so forth and we cater to multiple locations in the middle-east. Now, we have been advised by our SEO consultant that we should put a 301 (permanent redirect) on http://www.mysite.com to point to http://www.mysite.com/ksa/riyadh I would like to know the negative implications that this would have on Google indexing or otherwise, as I fundamentally disagree with this suggestion and believe that in a siutation like this a 302 redirect would be more appropriate.

• Scanner cuts off my String after about 2400 characters

  I've got some very basic code like while (scan.hasNextLine()) { String temp = scan.nextLine(); System.out.println(temp); } where scan is a Scanner over a file. However, on one particular line, which is about 6k chars long, temp cuts out after something like 2470 characters. There's nothing special about when it cuts out; it's in the middle of the word "Australia." If I delete characters from the line, the place where it cuts out changes; e.g. if I delete characters 0-100 in the file then Scanner will get what was previously 100-2570. I've used Scanner for larger strings before. Any idea what could be going wrong?

  I'm looking for some STL, boost, or similar container to use the same way indexes are used in databases to search for record using a query like this: select * from table1 where field1 starting with 'X'; or select * from table1 where field1 like 'X%'; I thought about using std::map, but I cannot because I need to search for fields that "start with" some text, and not those that are "equal to". I could create a sorted vector or list and use binary search (breaking the set in 2 in each step by reading the element in the middle and seeing if it's more or less than 'X'), but I wonder if there is some ready-made container I could use without reinventing the wheel?

• Does this popup view violate HIGS?

  Will using a popup view to present a comment submission form violate the HIGS? I may have one popup with selections that goes to the final popup. Two popups back to back. This is more similar to a modal type of view than an alert or action sheet as described by the HIGS: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/MobileHIG/ModalViews/ModalViews.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40006556-CH11-SW1 under the section 'Using Modal Views'. Basically the type of view I'm shooting for is a combination of an alert with a custom view. It's sort of a mini view since it will be centered in the middle of the screen but not take up all of the viewing area. I'm fairly sure that is a violation however, but I'm looking for a few opinions on it. I believe what needs to happen is use a modal view, which will cover the entire view.

  Hello I've a doubt. Lets consider that we have a div of width 200px. If i add the following the style style="padding-left:10px; padding-right:10px" to the element what happens actually? Will the total width of the div increases to 220px with 10px at the left (for left padding), original width 200px at the middle and 10px at the right (for right padding)? Or will it takes the padding space from the 200px and becomes (10px + 180px + 10px)? Does the above rendering differs for each browser (especially IE and FF)? Thank you NLV

• iPhone transparent images rendering poorly

  I'm developing an iPad application. I have been provided with a PNG image that contains some transparency - basically a drop shadow. The problem I'm having is that this is rendering poorly within the application, both on the device and in the sim. I can't provide the whole image but I've made up some samples to illustrate. The first is how the image appears in the PSD (correctly that is). The second is how it appears on the device. You can see that the strip of shadow in the middle of the image is distinctly more yellow and poorly looking. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Fortunatly the product ids are the same so it's possible to relate the data using ids. We need to merge this data into one big csv file so we can import in into our new e-commerce site. • horizontal align in a div

  I have a box like this: <div id="selectBox"> Select: <select> <option>1</option> <option>2</option> </select> </div> How do i get them aligned so that they are horizontal in the middle of each other, the baseline of the "Select" text and the content of the select box ("1").(and not the box itself). I can solv this by wrapping a table around them and make two cells but i feel that method is very crude.

  I'm stuck with a bit of an annoying problem right now. I've got a Silverlight 4 application (which runs OOB by default). It uses WCF with net.tcp as means of communicating with the server. The client uses a central instance of the wcf client proxy. As long as everything keeps running on the server side, everything's fine. If i kill the server in the middle of everything, i drown in an avalanche of exceptions on the client side (connection lost, channel faulted etc etc). Now i'm looking for a way to handle this in a clean and centralized way (if centralized is possible). The SL app has one central client object sitting in App.cs (public static MyClient Client { get;set;}), which gets initialized on application start. Any idea how to properly handle any connectivity problems on the client object?

  Hello, I want to open one child window on mouse double click of textbox. I know the only event available in Silverlight is MouseLeftButtonDown and you have to simulate double click. However it still doesn't work when i click in the middle of the textbox. It only works when i double click on the border of the textbox. Anybody has any ideas of how can i do this? If any 3rd party library is available then also it's fine. Thanks in advance:)

  My problem is twofold: 1) I'm trying to determine an eloquent way to allow the user to type into a UITextView and store the time each word was typed into an array. The time will be a float which starts at 0 when the user begins to type. 2) Conversely, I'd like the user to be able to tap on a word in the UITextView and display the time that word was typed (displaying in an NSLog() is fine). Considerations that may throw a wrench into a possible approach -- what if the user goes back to the top of the text and starts typing or to the middle of the text? Even a suggested approach without code would be appreciated, because right now I'm drawing a blank.

After the Completion of my Api call I report a progress and In progress event of my Backgroundworker I get the contents from Db and assign it as a DataSource to my grid. I call same API in same backgroundworker. In the middle of processing my application crashes. But If I dont assign the dataSource in ProgressChanged my application doesnt crashes.

• how do i use htaccess to make http requests work properly

  I currently have css and javascript file calls (amongst other things) like the following: href="/css/default.css" src="/js/ui_control.js" putting the preceding / in to make the files relative to the root. This works great when my page is in the root of the domain. However, I'm currently in the middle of transferring my site to a new hosting provider and as such have a temporary URL which is: HOST-IP/~username As such, all file calls are trying to be called from HOST-IP/css/default.css etc instead of within the ~username sub-folder. Of course I can wait until the domain name servers propagate but that's beside the point. How would I go about writing a rule in the .htaccess file that would redirect all file calls that start with a /, from going to HOST-IP/FILE-CALL, and instead to go to HOST-IP/~USERNAME/FILE-CALL. ? Any ideas?

  I want to track when user clicks external links for analytics purposes. The simplest solution is to replace all external links with links to special record-and-redirect controller, but that would slow the user unnecessarily. The second idea would be to override click event and within in $.post a message to record controller, then let the main event handler happen, which will usually be either click (open link in same tab) or middle click (open in new tab) - good either way, and the user won't have to wait for wait for my server to record it, it's fire-and-forget. (I don't care if users without Javascript don't get tracked) Is that a reasonable way to go? Or what else would be the best way to track all external link clicks?

In other words, I have <a href="..." class="facebook">Share on Facebook</a> As I don't want to pollute my markup with unnecessary IMG elements that only have to do with style, I resort to adding a small icon to the left of the link, via CSS (except that it does not align properly, hence the question): a.facebook:before { content: url(/style/facebook-logo.png); } I tried adding a "vertical-align: middle" (one of the most notoriously difficult aligning concepts to grasp in CSS, in my opinion, is that very property) but it has no effect. The logo aligns with text baseline, and I don't want to hardcode pixel offsets, because frankly text size differs from browser to browser, etc. Is there any solution for this? Thanks.

On UI we have a list and some horizontal tab bar (tab bar at top and below the list actually). If User is somewhere in the middle of a list and decides to click another tab, it appears a little difficult to put focus on the Tab control, so User scrolls to the first list item and after changes focus to tab (as a result very long operation). The point here How to catch event of horizontal scroll to change currently focused tab? And after if you scroll (by trackball) vertically you go back to list.
