  • WCF and a developer key like Google map API. What exactly am I looking for?

    - by Scott
I want to allow access to a WCF service to only those requests that contain a developer key. This is similiar to how the Google Maps API works. Register for a developer key and include that key in your requests. Anyone can get a key. How you get a key is undecided but is being discussed. For now, we'll email you a key. The service is up and running so I will be adding this on. I just need to know what I'm looking for so I can figure out what I need to do. Makes sense, right?!?! What is this scheme called? What should I search for? Any suggested links / books / whitepapers?

  • Custom add_action('save_post') causes html markup to disappear!

    - by Scott B
    I've added a custom "save_post" action to my theme (code is below). However, when I place images or video code in the post, its stripped away. The only way I can get it to stay is to comment out the add_action line. What do I need to do in order to keep all the post info intact? add_action('save_post', 'custom_add_save'); function custom_add_save($postID){ if (defined('DOING_AUTOSAVE') && DOING_AUTOSAVE) { return $postID; } else { // called after a post or page is saved if($parent_id = wp_is_post_revision($postID)) { $postID = $parent_id; } if ($_POST['my_customHeader']) { update_custom_meta($postID, $_POST['my_customHeader'], 'my_customHeader'); } else { update_custom_meta($postID, '', 'my_customHeader'); } if ($_POST['my_customTitle']) { update_custom_meta($postID, $_POST['my_customTitle'], 'my_customTitle'); } else { update_custom_meta($postID, '', 'my_customTitle'); } } } function update_custom_meta($postID, $newvalue, $field_name) { // To create new meta if(!get_post_meta($postID, $field_name)){ add_post_meta($postID, $field_name, $newvalue); }else{ // or to update existing meta update_post_meta($postID, $field_name, $newvalue); } }

  • Redeclaration of parameters

    - by Scott
While looking through the Selenium source code I noticed the following in the PageFactory: public static <T> T initElements(WebDriver driver, Class<T> pageClassToProxy) { T page = instantiatePage(driver, pageClassToProxy); initElements(driver, page); return page; } public static void initElements(WebDriver driver, Object page) { final WebDriver driverRef = driver; initElements(new DefaultElementLocatorFactory(driverRef), page); } What is the benefit of having the following line? final WebDriver driverRef = driver; Wouldn't it have made sense to just make the parameter final, and then passing that along to the next method without declaring the new reference?

  • How do I effectively store a connection string in machine.config only?

    - by Scott Bedwell
We are moving to an environment with multiple engines of MS SQL running on the same server (a test engine and a production engine). We also have separate test and production web servers, and would like for our asp.net applications to "magically" use the test database engine on the test web server and the production database engine on the production web servers. We would like to store the connection strings in machine.config rather than in web.config, but when we put it in machine.config, visual studio's IDE (particularly with datasets) does not recognize that the machine.config contains the connection. Does anyone know of a solution for displaying these machine.config connection strings in visual studio, or of a different solution that would accommodate for this? Thanks.

  • Getting list of all existing vtables.

    - by Patrick
In my application I have quite some void-pointers (this is because of historical reasons, application was originally written in pure C). In one of my modules I know that the void-pointers points to instances of classes that could inherit from a known base class, but I cannot be 100% sure of it. Therefore, doing a dynamic_cast on the void-pointer might give problems. Possibly, the void-pointer even points to a plain-struct (so no vptr in the struct). I would like to investigate the first 4 bytes of the memory the void-pointer is pointing to, to see if this is the address of the valid vtable. I know this is platform, maybe even compiler-version-specific, but it could help me in moving the application forward, and getting rid of all the void-pointers over a limited time period (let's say 3 years). Is there a way to get a list of all vtables in the application, or a way to check whether a pointer points to a valid vtable, and whether that instance pointing to the vtable inherits from a known base class?

  • How do I format a Uri when binding an Image in Silverlight?

    - by Scott
I haven't been able to find an answer to this. I have a database that has image paths in it ("images/myimage.jpg"). These images exist on my asp.net site which is also where I host the SL. I want to bind these images to my ListBox control so that the image displays. I have read that since I have a string value, "images/myimage.jpg", that I need to convert it to a BitMap image. I have done this: the xaml: <Image Source="{Binding ImageFile, Converter={StaticResource ImageConverter}}"/> the ImageConverter class: public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, CultureInfo culture) { try { Uri source= new Uri(value.ToString()); return new BitmapImage(source); } catch(Exception ex) { return new BitmapImage(); } } I get an error when creating the Uri, "The Format of the URI could not be determined". What am I doing wrong? If I create a Uri that looks like this: http://localhost:49723/images/myimage.jpg, it works just fine. Why doesn't just "images/myimage.jpg" work?

  • jQuery IE7 on-the-fly images

    - by Scott Evernden
The simplified version of the problem I am seeing in IE7 can be demonstated using FireBug Lite. On a page loaded with jQuery, I open FireBug Lite (via bookmarket) and I enter the following: image = $('<img src="http://example.com/boofar.jpg" border="12" width="95" height="95" title="Booya">')[0]; and the result echoed is: <img title="Booya" contentEditable="inherit" start="fileopen" loop="1" src="http://example.com/boofar.jpg" border="12"> Where are the width and height attributes? Furthermore, image.width; and image.attributes.width.value; return 0 and "0". Seen this with both jQuery 1.2.6 as well as 1.4.2. It does the right thing in IE8 and FF. Any ideas where those attributes went? Very annoying....

  • Django - User account with multiple identities

    - by Scott Willman
Synopsis: Each User account has a UserProfile to hold extended info like phone numbers, addresses, etc. Then, a User account can have multiple Identities. There are multiple types of identities that hold different types of information. The structure would be like so: User |<-FK- UserProfile | |<-FK- IdentityType1 |<-FK- IdentityType1 |<-FK- IdentityType2 |<-FK- IdentityType3 (current) |<-FK- IdentityType3 |<-FK- IdentityType3 The User account can be connected to n number of Identities of different types but can only use one Identity at a time. Seemingly, the Django way would be to collect all of the connected identities (user.IdentityType1_set.select_related()) into a QuerySet and then check each one for some kind of 'current' field. Question: Can anyone think of a better way to select the 'current' marked Identity than doing three DB queries (one for each IdentityType)?

  • WPF layout calls MeasureOverride repeatedly in increments of 2?

    - by Scott Whitlock
I've run into a case where I have a custom Panel (inherits from Panel) and I'm using it as an ItemsPanel in a ListView. When I resize the container that it's in, if I resize it smaller, my panel's MeasureOverride function gets called once, but if I resize it larger (let's say from 100 to 300), it calls MeasureOverride and ArrangeOverride for every value between 100 and 300, in increments of 2 (so 102, 104, etc.). The weird thing is that the container resizes right away (its size gets to 300 immediately). It doesn't seem to matter what I return from MeasureOverride - it just does this. I wish I could make it happen in a really small application and post it here, but I haven't been able to reproduce it like that yet. I can reproduce it all day in my app though. Does anyone know what could cause this?

  • Getting 404 in Android app while trying to get xml from localhost

    - by Patrick
This must be something really stupid, trying to solve this issue for a couple of days now and it's really not working. I searched everywhere and there probably is someone with the same problem, but I can't seem to find it. I'm working on an Android app and this app pulls some xml from a website. Since this website is down a lot, I decided to save it and run it locally. Now what I did; - I downloaded the kWs app for hosting the downloaded xml file - I put the file in the right directory and could access it through the mobile browser, but not with my app (same code as I used with pulling it from some other website, not hosted by me, only difference was the URL obviously) So I tried to host it on my PC and access it with my app from there. Again the same results, the mobile browsers had no problem finding it, but the app kept saying 404 Not Found: "The requested URL /test.xml&parama=Someone&paramb= was not found on this server." Note: Don't mind the 2 parameters I am sending, I needed that to get the right stuff from the website that wasn't hosted by me. My code: public String getStuff(String name){ String URL = "http://10.0.0.8/test.xml"; ArrayList<NameValuePair> params = new ArrayList<NameValuePair>(2); params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("parama", name)); params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("paramb", "")); APIRequest request = new APIRequest(URL, params); try { RequestXML rxml = new RequestXML(); AsyncTask<APIRequest, Void, String> a = rxml.execute(request); ... } catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return null; } That should be working correctly. Now the RequestXML class part: class RequestXML extends AsyncTask<APIRequest, Void, String>{ @Override protected String doInBackground(APIRequest... uri) { HttpClient httpclient = new DefaultHttpClient(); String completeUrl = uri[0].url; // ... Add parameters to URL ... HttpGet request = null; try { request = new HttpGet(new URI(completeUrl)); } catch (URISyntaxException e1) { e1.printStackTrace(); } HttpResponse response; String responseString = ""; try { response = httpclient.execute(request); StatusLine statusLine = response.getStatusLine(); if(statusLine.getStatusCode() == HttpStatus.SC_OK){ // .. It crashes here, because statusLine.getStatusCode() returns a 404 instead of a 200. The xml is just plain xml, nothing special about it. I changed the contents of the .htaccess file into "ALLOW FROM ALL" (works, cause the browser on my mobile device can access it and shows the correct xml). I am running Android 4.0.4 and I am using the default browser AND chrome on my mobile device. I am using MoWeS to host the website on my PC. Any help would be appreciated and if you need to know anything before you can find an answer to this problem, I'll be more than happy to give you that info. Thank you for you time! Cheers.

  • Drupal: cusomizing modules question

    - by Patrick
hi, I've a question about how to customize drupal modules avoiding hacks. Let's say I've downloaded Lightbox2 module and I want to change the javascript file to display differently my lightbox. At the moment I'm modifying the Lightbox2 module, so I cannot update it anymore, so I know it is not the best practice. I was wondering if I can customize the javascript file of this module with a hook, and how. Thanks

  • WordPress > microsites use main site's menu (same domain, multiple subdirectories, multiple WP insta

    - by Scott B
I have a main site at site.com and several subdirectory "microsites" at site1.site.com, site2.site.com, etc. These are all on the same server. Each site is set up in its own folder under public_html and each with its own separate wordpress install. I'd like for each microsite to share the same top level menu (the page's menu) with the main site. I'm sure there are several approaches and I'd like to ask you for a few ideas. As an aside, I'd also like to ask if the new WordPress 3.0 beta would make this simpler to do (since it combines wordpress MU into the main wordpress core)

  • IE7 - jquery addClass() breaks floating elements

    - by Patrick
I have this nav that uses addClass('hover') when the mouse is rolled over an item. This works fine except in IE7 when the addClass function is called every element with float:left stops floating and the page totally loses its structure. This is my JS: _this.position_sub_menus = function(){ $('#header #nav > ul > li').mouseenter( function(e){ pos = $(this).offset(); height = $(this).height(); lvl2 = '#' + $(this).attr('id') + '-submenu'; if( $(this).position().left > ($('#nav').width()/2)){ pos.left = pos.left - $(lvl2).width() + $(this).width(); } $(this).addClass('hover'); $(lvl2).show(); $(lvl2).css( { 'left' : (pos.left - 12) + 'px', 'top' : pos.top + height + 'px'}); } ); This is the CSS of the of the elements that break: display: inline; float: left; margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px; position: relative; It's CSS from the 960 grid system. When I comment out the $(this).addClass('hover'); line the floated elements dont break. Is anyone familiar with this IE7 problem? Thanks guys

  • Recommended book for Sql Server query optimisation

    - by Patrick Honorez
Even if I have made a certification exam on Sql Server Design and implementation , I have no clue about how to trace/debug/optimise performance in Sql Sever. Now the database I built is really business critical, and getting big, so it is time for me to dig into optimisation, specially regarding when/where to add indexes. Can you recommend a good book on this subject ? (smaller is better :) Just in case: I am using Sql Server 2008. Thanks

  • Dynamically include files in MSI setup

    - by Patrick Klug
I am trying to deploy a bunch of files in a directory in my MSI setup. As the files will change frequently I don't want to add the files directly but rather have a way of automatically including all files from within a directory and deploy them to a certain location. I am using a Visual Studio Setup Project. Anybody know how/if this is possible?
