  • Encryption-Decreyption in Rails

    Hi All, I am using "require 'digest/sha1'" ro encrypt my password and save into database. While login i authenticate by matching the encrepted passowrd saved in database and again encrypted the one use enter in password field. As of now everything works fine but now i want to do 'Forgot Passowrd' functionality.to do this i need to decrypt the password which is saved in database to find original one.How to decrypt using 'digest/sha1' ? Or someone know any algoritham which supports encryption & decryption as well? Iam using ruby-on-rails so i need Ruby way to accomplish it.

  • How do I debug a Net::HTTPInternalServerError error when using Mechanize?

    c:/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mechanize-1.0.0/lib/mechanize.rb:259:in `get': 500 => Net::HTTPInternalServerError (Mechanize::ResponseCodeError) I get the above error when I try to navigate to the following webpage http://fakewebsite.com//admin/edit_building.cfm?page=buildings&updateMode=yes&id=1251 I can navigate just fine when copy and paste the link into a browser. Note: This website does require a login, which I handle with code like the following $agent = Mechanize.new $agent.get('http://fakewebsite//admin/login.cfm?res=-5') form = $agent.page.forms.first form.EMail = "admin" form.Password = "password" form.submit This login works just fine, since I access other webpages protected by the login. I'm not sure where to go from here, any suggestions?

  • Gems and Ubuntu 9.04

    Hi, I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04 and I have issues using gems. I have installed ruby, ruby gems and rails using apt-get The rails command do work. I have then installed capistrano and other gems (such as heroku). In order to do that, I have used the command sudo gem install XXX When I want to use the cap command it does not work: bash: cap: command not found It is the same with the other gem commands. Do I have something particular to do so that the gem commands works ?

  • CSS Background image arbitrarily not getting requested at all

    I`m in the process of building a template for Redmine (a project management system based on Ruby on Rails.) Ruby is running on a virtual server from a Bitnami.org installation package. The OS is Windows. The template essentially consists of a styles.css file. In that file, I have the following line: #header { padding: 0px; padding-top: 48px; background-color: #62DFFF; background-image: url(../images/bkg.jpg); background-position: center bottom; background-repeat: repeat-x; height:150px; } It's a header element with a background image. The problem: This background image arbitrarily appears and disappears when reloading the page. It is more often missing than it is not. Say you reload the page in your browser ten times in twenty seconds; the image will appear in two instances, and be missing in the 18 others. I would have put this down to server problems, but the weird thing is that when it's missing, the request for the image doesn't appear in Firebug's net tab at all. Even if it were cached, the request should be there, shouldn't it? Raw screenshots of the identical page on two reloads: I am 100% sure the CSS file does not change in between. I have examined both instances with Firebug and the CSS is identical. When I change the image's URL by editing the style declaration in firebug to bkg.jpg?xyz=123445 then the image will get loaded, which is making me think this must be a server problem. It happens in both Firefox and Chrome so it must be something basic I'm overlooking. What could be causing a browser not to load a resource at all? I have zero idea about Ruby nor Rails - getting Redmine running and customized is all I have ever had to do with this platform - so I don't really know where to start debugging. Apache's, Mongrel's and Redmine's error logs look fine, though. And then again, this looks like a browser issue. I'm stumped.

    I'm finding that autotest has stopped working... $ autotest loading autotest/rails Autotest style autotest/rails doesn't seem to exist. Aborting. According to this blog post, the common reason for this error is that people don't have the autotest-rails gem installed. However, I definitely have that installed: autotest-rails (4.1.0) ZenTest (4.1.4, 4.1.3, 4.1.1, 4.0.0, 3.11.1, 3.11.0, 3.10.0, 3.9.3, 3.9.2) I haven't installed any new gems today or yesterday, though I might have done a gem update yesterday. Another issue I saw mentioned was incompatibility with Ruby 1.9, but I'm using MRI Ruby 1.8.6.

    I'm diving into web development and I built my personal website using Ruby on Rails 3.1 and I'd like to add a blog to it. Octopress sounds really awesome, and it's written in Ruby, but I can't find a single resource online that discusses integrating Octopress into a Rails app. I know that's not what it was designed for, but I'm amazed there's no discussion on it considering the popularity of these two technologies. The only resources I can find are discussions on using Octopress to create a stand-alone blog website. How can I integrate Octopress into my existing Rails 3.1 app? Can I set it up as a stand-alone website and integrate it as a sub-domain? Other suggestions? Thanks so much in advance for your wisdom!

    What is the "Rails-way" or the "Ruby-way" of doing the following: In my controller, I'm creating and instance of an Options class. It will be initialized with information in the params hash if the params hash exists. Otherwise, it will check the sessions hash for the information. Finally, it will initialize with defaults if neither params nor session has the data it needs. Here is how I'm doing it now (it works fine, but it seems a little ugly): if params[:cust_options] @options = CustomOptions.new( params[:cust_options] ) else if session[:cust_options @options = CustomOptions.new( session[:cust_options] ) else @options = CustomOptions.new end end session[:cust_options] = @options.to_hash Like I said, everything is working fine, I'm just looking for a more idiomatically Ruby way of writing this block of code.

    I have the following line in my gemfile: gem 'client_side_validations', :git => "[email protected]:Dakuan/client_side_validations.git", :branch => "master", ref: '2245b4174ffd4b400d999cb5a2b6dccc0289eb67' The repo it's pointing at is public and I can run bundle install / update locally just fine.     Hello, I'm developing a "script generator" to automatize some processes at work. It has a Rails application running on a server that stores all data needed to make the script and generates the script itself at the end of the process. The problem I am having is how to export the data from the ActiveRecord format to Plain Old Ruby Objects (POROs) so I can deal with them in my script with no database support and a pure-ruby implementation. I tought about YAML, CSV or something like this to export the data but it would be a painful process to update these structures if the process changes. Is there a simpler way? Ty!

    I currently have Google Chrome dev version installed, however visting http://www.soundstep.com/blog/experiments/jsdetection/, it said I needed to install Google Chrome Beta. Isn't dev higher than beta? I thought there was these versions of Google Chrome, from lowest to highest version: Stable Beta Dev Canary (Chromium) Is the detection of my browser failing on the website, or have Google Chrome changed their versioning system?     Since Dream Linux has built in support for Ruby, I'm assuming it will work well as a Rails development environment, but I'm wondering if Ruby Version Manager will interfere with the system version of Ruby. Generally, when I use RVM, I disable/ignore the system version. How will the Dream Linux OS system scripts that are written in Ruby react to the presence of RVM? If I can't use RVM on Dream Linux, how easy is it to upgrade to newer versions of Ruby, without frazzling the system?
