    I am wondering what the best ways to store graphs in persistent storage are, for later analysis, search, clustering, etc. I see neo4j being an option, I am curious if there are also other graph databases available. Does anyone have any insights into how larger social networks store their graph based data (or other sites that require the storage of graph like models, e.g. RDF). What about options like Cassandra, or MySQL?

  • How can I get the followers of a user on twitter, then get posts from those followers over a period

    I've been assigned a research project to enhance social networking based adaptive e-learning and to do so I need to be able to extract several (hundreds, maybe thousands) of status updates or tweets in order to perform factor analysis on key words. Apparently this can be done with javascript but I have never used javascript before so I'm a bit lost. I know I need a Twitter API but not sure even how to use one. Anybody have any idea how I can do this?

  • Keep div:hover open when changing nested select box

    This is an IE-only problem. .toolTip becomes visible when it's parent element is :hovered over. Inside of .toolTip is a select box. When the user opens the select box to make a selection, the parent element is being "un-hovered", if you will. To put it another way, when I try to select something from the dropdown, the whole thing hides itself again. I'm sure it has something to do with the way IE interprets the stylesheet, but I don't know what or where.     Hi, Can anybody detail some approach on how to save private data in social websites like facebook, etc. They cant save all the updates and friends list in clear text format because of privacy issues. So how do they actually save it? Hashing all the data with user password so that only a valid session view it is one possibility. But I think there are some problem with this approach and there must be some better solution.

  • facebook photo album grouping photos in news feed

    We have a social media "platform" - when we schedule photos to be published to Facebook, if a user schedules photos - they all go into the same album, as they schedule photos throughout the day - the photos become grouped and do not appear as a large photo - but rather a bunch of photos in a album. Is there any way to prevent photos from being grouped in the new feed and it just showing the newest uploaded photo in stream? I do not see an option.

    I am creating a social networking site and one of the requirements is to have the subdomain like URL for each user. For example, for the user1 his profile page will be user1.mysitename.com and for the user2 profile page will be user2.mysitename.com. Can it be done using url aliasing? basically user1.mysitename.com should be www.mysitename.com/profile.aspx?username=user1 I will be hosting this in windows 2003 (IIS6), any help is highly appreciated.

  • PHP Curl Not formatting quotes properly; producing weird character set for single/double quotes

    I wrote a html scraper to scrape my various social identites, so I can make a real time 'biography' website. However after using php curl_exec, I find that texts that I have quoted, end up being formatted in a weird character set. ex: "I love dogs" gets formatted to ’I love dogs ’ "I hate cheese" gets formatted to “I hate cheese� How do I either scrub these characters, or set curl not to format quotes like this. Also, I have turned off magic_quotes.
