    I need to create a Print Server Port via commandline in Windows 8 Per Google search I should be using prnport.vbs script to do so: cscript c:\Windows\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts\en-US\prnport.vbs -a -s \\192.168.113.253 -r Xerox_192.168.113.253 However I get this error: ** Unable to connect to WMI service Error 0x800706BA The RPC Server is unavailable. ** I looked at local services and both RPC and WMI services are started . Also I made sure add remote admin rule to Windows Firewall via command line without success!: netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="windows management instrumentation (wmi)" new enable=yes netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="remote administration" new enable=yes NOTE: If I use the GUI to create the print server port then add the printer via command line: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "Xerox WorkCenter 7535" /F C:\Windows\Inf\WC7545-7556_PCL6_x64_Driver\x2DNORX.inf /r "Xerox_192.168.113.253" /m "Xerox WorkCentre 7535 PCL6" THE PRINTER IS SUCCESSFULLY ADDED.     I see a warning in my Win7 Events Log: The time service has not synchronized the system time for 86400 seconds because none of the time service providers provided a usable time stamp. The message suggests that I run: w32tm /resync When I try to run that command, I get an error: The following error occurred: The specified module could not be found. <0x8007007E I can run w32tm with no arguments and get the expected list of w32tm commands, so the program is accessable and runs. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The line breaks seem to have been introduced in the process of paasting into this form. Well spotted - I was using a PDF file name "ascii". I added a .pdf extension but still get the error. I suspect you're right that it's to do with admin rights. Here's more about the setup and what I'm trying to achieve. Win2pdf is a product for writing PDFs by works by simulating a Windows printer. You "print" the page, select win2pdf in the print dialog and it then asks for a file name. I have it installed on my pc (called Neil) and it works fine in this conventional way. My aim is to write an html page to a PDF file using win2pdf - but via ASP/vbscript/javascript rather than with manual intervention. The script for doing this was provided by win2PDF's tech support but when it did not work, that was the limit of their understanding. In the sample script the file ascii.asp just produces a table of ascii codes/characters. The URL given is on my own PC which has IIS set up to run scripts which it does fine. The error I get occurs on about the fourth line executed. I am logged in with full admin rights - I think! But I'm no expert. I hope this helps to give some more specific suggestions about how to check/fix the admin rights.

  • Can't connect to Apple Time Capsule in home network using Home Plugs from Win 7 Machine

    I have the following home network setup with subnet 255.255.255.0 but recently moved my time capsule to a different location when I added a third Home Plug and can no longer ping or map a network drive to it from the Windows 7 Machine. However using Airport Utility on the Windows 7 machine I can manually configure the Time Capsule. Using a Macbook on WIFI Network 1 or 2 - I can backup to the time capsule, so its accessible via both the router wifi network and the time capsule wifi network. The Time Capsule is set to BRIDGE function - ie no NAT or DHCP server enabled. Any bright sparks out there that can help diagnose the problem?     I have just purchased a new HP dv7t-7000 and I would like to run Windows 7 / Ubuntu. How do I setup the dual boot? Can I install both operating systems with an 8gb USB drive? Can I still make use of the 32gb SSD? I'm unfamiliar with the efficacy of using an SSD for caching with a 750gb 7200rpm sata 3 drive. I can only see using it for windows 7 - which I have installed in order to play games. Thank you!

There is a problem - when the progress comes to partition selection, it sees all the partitions on the hard drive, but when I'm selecting any partition, it says that it's not compatible with Windows XP. Windows 7 was installed without any problems, but XP and 2003 R2 have this problem. How can I solve it? P.S. I already have Windows 7, I need exactly XP or 2003 for my work. Thanks.

  • Win 2008 R2 - copying TO disk is very slow, copying FROM is more or less okay

    I have Windows 2008 R2 SP1 with 4 identical SATA disks (Seagate Barracude 7200) in RAID 5 array. It has 4Gb of memory; all recent updates are installed. Problem: when I copy large file from one folder to another, I get about 10MB/s average speed. When I read this file from network share via 1Gbps connection - I get about 25-30 MB/s. Both numbers seems to be low for me - but specifically I'm very frustrated with low write speed. there is no antivirus, no hyper-v, it's just a fileserver - i when i do my tests nobody else reads/write from it (we have only 4 people in a team, so I'm sure). Not sure if that matters, but there is only 1 logic disk "C" with all available space (1400 GB). I'm not an admin at all, so I have no idea where to look and what other information to provide. I did run performance monitor with "% idle time", "avg bytes read", "avg byte write" - here is the screenshot: I'm not sure why there are such obvious spikes. Any idea? Please let me know if you need me to provide more information - what counters should I check, etc. I'm very eager to get this solved. Thank you. UPDATE: we have another Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server with 2 RAID1 arrays - one is disk C (where windows is installed, another one is disk E). It is running Hyper-V and does not have antivirus. I noticed the following behavior when I copy large file (few GBs): C - C: about 50MB/sec C - E: about 55MB/sec E - E: 8MB/sec!!! E - C: 8MB/sec!!! what could cause this?? E drive is RAID1 array from same Seagate Barracuda 1TB drives..

  • MS Word reports files read-only on Win Server 2003 file server

    I'm not a sysadmin, but I play one on TV: I'm trying to fix a problem for my mom's tiny non-profit company's server. I set up a Windows Server 2003 machine as a domain controller and file server. Everything has been working well for a few months, but lately when she tries to save changes to a Word (Office XP) document stored on the server, Word will intermittently report that the file is read-only. Saving to an alternate file in the same directory works, and when she closes Word and re-opens the original document, it'll save changes just fine. No one else ever has these files open. I've checked security and share permissions, and everything's OK. We've tried rebooting the server, but the problem continues, but intermittently. I have no clue what's going on. Help!

I can think of numerous ways of doing this (using cookies , logging IP adresses off the top of my head, limiting functionality). Is there a standard approach to this? Are there best practices? Are there any good tutorials on this? (I would prefer not to go the liited functionality route, as it will not show what the app is capable of).

The event log doesn't provide any clear error, "The print spooler service stopped unexpectedly...it did this x times". I can seem to find any information on this. T tried un-installing whatever print driver was there...same thing. Any other ideas?

  • No app icons in menus

    I have enabled icons in menus, and most of them show up well (folder icons, file icons, save icons, etc.). But whenever an app tries to use an icon specific to itself, such as GIMP, it replaces that icon with the app icon, so that when I look at a menu in GIMP, I see most of the time just icons of GIMP's logo (that seems to be the only problem; the text is fine). I thought this was proper to GIMP, but I also noticed it happening on AbiWord. Thankfully, as I said, it's not for all icons. But it still bugs me. Why is it so? Here is a screenshot of a menu in GIMP: I am using Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, with Unity desktop (the problem also occurs on the Classic desktop, if I remember correctly). EDIT: This does NOT occur on the Classic desktop; only in Unity.

    A few months back, I was doing some recreational reading at the iOS Dev Center, and I came across a small list of guidelines for free vs. paid apps. It included guidance along these lines: How not to promote a paid version within a free version Not displaying "placeholder" buttons in a free version that "work" in a paid version I can't remember much more than that, and I cannot find it anymore on the iOS Dev Center. It's possible I imagined it entirely, but I doubt it - does anyone have a link to this information, or have a set of guidelines for free vs. paid apps in the App Store?

    I'm learning about network and I configured DNS in 2k3. In forward zone : cntt.edu www.cntt.edu [ 192.168.188.4 ] . [ All IP / DNS configuration is right ] After that I use wireshark to catch packet when I enter www.cntt.edu in IE . I see there's no DNS here, I forward directly to 192.168.188.4, there's no query .   • Unable to access published programs on TS web access - win server 2008 OS

    I am using the TS Web Access feature provided by windows server 2008 to publish programs so that they can be accessed over internet using RDC client. I am able to access the programs from the intranet domain . However, when i try from outside the college network, i am only able to see the published programs but not connect to them as i get an error saying "Remote computer cannot be connected. The certificate subject name and the gateway address requested do not match." . pls note that i have created a self -signed certificate and installed on server myself. Also, i am using the direct IPAddress of the server as the gateway address. Since i am able to access programs from with domain , i suspect it to be a simple setting with gateway or certificate. Please let me know if any further info is required on this..any help is appreciated..

  • Win 7 Netbook refuses to ping JetDirect card (all other PCs work)

    I have an odd thing occuring here. From a Windows 7 netbook, I cannot ping an HP printer on the network, while all other machines (Win7/Vista) can. And the netbook can also ping everything else on the LAN. Example showing that the netbook can ping 192.168.3.4 but not 3.6.   • XP Mode as a server, Win 7 as a client

    I have two virtual machines (XP Mode). They are connected to each other by a network setting - Internal Network. It is the only working setting. This is the only way I got two virtual XP to ping each other. Now I want to connect each of them from the application that runs on Windows 7 which is hosting both virtual machines, but I can't do that. The firewall on both XP-Mode machines is disabled. Any other networking setting added as additional adapter on Xp-Mode machine does not allow me to connect from Windows 7. So my question is this - how to enable connection from Windows 7 application to XP mode application (client - server)? Point 2 (pass message) work perfectly because of the "internal network" setting. The problem is point 1 and 3.

Now I cant get an elevated command prompt to re-enable the admin user, nor do any privileged operation that requires an admin password. Normally I would type in a password and click yes but there is no password field and yes is grayed out. How can I re-enable the administrator account?

  • 13" MacBook Pro with Win 7 and External VGA gets 640x480

    I have a brand new 13" MacBook Pro - 2.26 GHz and the NVIDIA 9400M Video card. I installed Windows 7 (final) in boot camp and booted up to Windows 7. Installed all the drivers from the Apple disk and it was working great. Then I attached the external VGA adapter (from apple) to connect to a projector and it dropped down at 640x480 resolution. No matter what I did it wouldn't let me change to a higher resolution if the external VGA was connected. Once it disconnects then it goes back to the normal resolution. If I am booted into Snow Leopard it works fine. I tried updating the NVIDIA drivers and it behaved exactly the same. Ultimately I want to get 1024x768 or better resolution when connected to an external display. If it isn't fixable then I am curious if anyone else has seen this, if it is a known issue, and who to contact for support (Apple, Microsoft or NVIDIA?) Update: Just attaching the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter kicks it into 640x480, no projector is required. I tried forcing the display driver from Generic PnP Monitor to one that supported 1024x768 and that didn't work either.
