• Logging erros in SqlLite database from C# Windows Forms Application

  I'm developing a win app in C# which communicates to a WCF Service. I want to log exceptions that are thrown on client to be logged in Sql Lite Database (Win app is using Sql Lite database for storing data locally). And then later it should be sent to the wcf service when required so that it can be useful for support/analysis/application improvement. I want a method which can be directly called in every catch block simply by LogHelper.Log(ex). I would like to know if anyone has done it through Enterprise library or used any good practice for such situation?

• Drupal Filefield won't upload javascript files?

  Hiya, I've got a site where individual pages might require some javascript or CSS files hooked into their heads. I'm trying to keep everything client side when it comes to managing this process, rather than getting on the FTP and sorting everything out in the code so I need to be able to upload css and js files. I've got CCK filefield up and running, and it works with css files, but it refuses to upload .js files. It instead seems to view every .js as ".js.txt" and then the file appears on the server as thisismyfile.js.txt Not ideal... Does anyone know how to work around this. Is it a mime type problem with Drupal or the server, or is Drupal set up to avoid script uploads and n00b hack attacks. Once the files are uploaded I intend to use PHP mode on the page or node to call drupal_add_css and drupal_add_js.

• How Do I Intercept Banner in WordPress?

  My client wants me to make a plugin that intercepts the banner on a WordPress blog so that the existing one displays, but right beneath it, above the content and the sidebar, another banner appears. And he needs it such that it works in most themes and isn't theme-specific. I found I could use add_action('loop_start','interceptMe') to put something at the top before posts or a single post, but it still left the sidebar on the right. I have tried using add_action('all','test') to dump out different intercepts to see if I could figure this out, but I just can't seem to get it yet. I'm thinking I may have to intercept all esc_html calls and contextually inspect that until I find one used for the banner. Does anyone know how to intercept the banner to add another one right beneath it?

  I am building a form for a client. Here is the rundown. The form will be used as a request to have a staff member contact the person filling out the form. However, there is a list of staff members that will contact them depending on what the subject matter is. So, I want to create a checkbox input section on the form with each staff person's email address attached to a corresponding checkbox. So, the person filling out the form can check only the staff people necessary for their needs. Finally, when the person clicks "submit", the form will be emailed to only the staff members who were checked in the form. I'm at a loss of how to set this up.

Over the last several years C# has extended it's general purpose features by introducing more and more functional language features: LINQ (list comprehension), Lamdas, Closures, Anonymous Delegates and more... Given C#'s adoption of these functional features and F#'s taxonomy as an impure functional language (it allows YOU to access framework libraries or change shared state when a function is called if you want to) there is a strong similarity between the two languages although each has it's own polar opposite primary emphasis. I'm interested in any successful models employing these two languages in your production polyglot programs and also the areas within production software (web apps, client apps, server apps) you have written in F# in the past year or so that you would previously have written in C#.   What is the best persistence API for use with GWT? Sadly, the application will be hosted on my own java server, as I will need more control than GAE will give me. I know I will need to have two sets of my entities, one for the server side, and some pojo's for the client side. I'm looking to make the mapping of the data as simple as possible between the two, but these will be deeply nested objects so it has to be robust. I was looking at Dozer for my mapping needs. Previously I've used EJB3 with TopLink, so that's very familiar to me, but I would like to get community input on what other API's work well with Dozer and GWT.

• Grails MySql processList

  Hello, i have a grails application with a webflow. I store my inner flow objects of interest in the converstaion scope. After entering and leaving the flow a few times, i see that the single user connected to the DB (MySql) generates a lot of threads on the MySql Server which are not released. The processlist in mysql show me the threads in sleeping mode and a netstat on the client shows me established connections to the mysql server. I assume the connections are held active and not released. But why is that? What do grails exactly do when entering and leaving a flow? Why are so many connections opened and not closed?   Hello We are working on a C language application which is simple RTSP/RTP client to record video from Axis a number of Cameras . We launch a pthread for each of the camera which establishes the RTP session and begins to record the packets captured suing the recvfrom() call... A single camera single pthread records fine for well over a day without issues.. but testing with more cameras available,about 25(so 25 pthreads), the recording to file goes fine for like 15 to 20 mins and then the recording just stops ..the application still keeps running .. Its been over a month and a half we have been trying with varied implementations but nothing seems to help .. Please provide suggestions.. We are using CentOS 5 platform

• Wondering how Facebook does the "Mutual friends" feature

  Hello, I'm currently developing an application to allow students to manage their courses, and I don't really know how to design the database for a specific feature. The client wants, a lot like Facebook, that when a student displays the list of people currently in a specific course, the people with the most mutual courses are displayed first. As an additional feature, I would like to add a search feature to allow students to search for another one, and displaying first in the search results the people with most mutual courses. I currently use MySQL, I plan to use Cassandra for some other features, and I also use Memcached for result caching. Thanks.

  I'm currently working on building a RESTful web api with ruby on rails. I haven't bothered putting a proper authentication scheme into the API yet as I'm ensuring that tests and the basic behavior of the API is working all locally first. Upon testing non-HTTP GET type requests such as HTTP POST/DELETE/PUT, stuff chokes because protect_from_forgery is on by default. How does this work when I'm working in practice since essentially the idea is in a RESTful API that there is no state. The client does not have a session or a cookie associated with the server. Each request is an atomic, self-executed request. The user will supply some credentials to ensure they are who they say they are, but other than that, does protect_from_forgery make sense at this point? Should it remain enabled?

  I have a button on my .aspx interstitial page. When I click it the onClick event fires off and it does a bunch of validations in the code. I have a javascript function that I need to call/run AFTER these validations are performed. This javascript function closes the interstitial page. How can I call the javascript function from my C# code? I've tried adding a script manager and a client script but neither work. What else besides these two options do I have?   Hi, I have a 5 year old web application which runs tinymce 2.0.5.1 In this version it is possible - in IE 6,7,8 only to paste from MS Word and retain the tab characters. What we have done is to add a callback: paste_insert_word_content_callback : "findtabs" function findtabs(type, content) { if (type == "before"){ content = content.replace(/( This functionality is important to the client as they have 100s of MS Word documents of quote templates which use tabulators for formatting. Because of another problem suspected to be caused by TinyMCE, we'd like to upgrade to the current TinyMCE version 3.2.7 However in this version the resulting paste code does not contain anything that seems to 100% link to a tabulator. If pasted into an empty textarea, I get something like , if pasted into a I simply a space character. Can anyone recommend how to detect tabulators when pasting from MS Word?

One of the solution i got was to create SSIS package and run it from the UI. I want to know as how i can create SSIS Package to achieve this. I am new to SSIS. I am using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition and Visual Studio 2008 SP1 installed. I learnt that BIDS 2005 is used to create packages which comes by default with SQL Server 2005. Can someone please give me a example as i am new to this.

  Hey I have run into the following problem when attempting to build a program in java which executes commands on a remote linux server and returns the output for processing... Basically I have installed Cygwin with an SSH client and want to do the following: Open Cygwin, Send command "user@ip"; Return output; Send command "password"; Return output; Send multiple other commands, Return output; ...etc... So far: Process proc = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("C:/Power Apps/Cygwin/Cygwin.bat"); Works nicely except I am at a loss as to how to attempt the next steps. Any help?

  I'm getting a "loss of precision" error when there should be none, AFAIK. this is an instance variable: byte move=0; this happens in a method of this class: this.move=(this.move<<4)|(byte)(Guy.moven.indexOf("left")&0xF); move is a byte, move is still a byte, and the rest is being cast to a byte. • Concerns about reading a file in Flash 10

  Hi, I'd like to read an xml file on a user's machine (which can be kind of large). There's no point in me sending the file to my server as I can do all the work I need on the file right on the client's machine. Not sure if this is a good fit though, was wondering if anyone can answer these questions before I dive in: I see at adobe's website that Flash 10 has like 94% penetration, is this true, I thought it was just released not too long ago? After opening the xml file in flash, is it possible to just throw it to a javascript function on my same page for further processing? I'd like to go into flash world for as short a time as possible. Is it at all common to use flash for file upload stuff? I heard aol/flickr are? I would need to buy flash in order to do this right, they don't have a free ide/compiler yet? Thanks

• synchronizing audio over a network

  I'm in startup of designing a client/server audio system which can stream audio arbitrarily over a network. One central server pumps out an audio stream and x number of clients receives the audio data and plays it. So far no magic needed and I have even got this scenario to work with VLC media player out of the box. However, the tricky part seems to be synchronizing the audio playback so that all clients are in audible synch (actual latency can be allowed as long as it is perceived to be in sync by a human listener). My question is if there's any known method or algorithm to use for these types of synchronization problems (video is probably solved the same way). My own initial thoughts centers around synchronizing clocks between physical machines and thereby creating a virtual "main timer" and somehow aligning audio data packets against it. • Web Services: more frequent "small" calls, or less frequent "big" calls

  In general, is it better to have a web application make lots of calls to a web service getting smaller chunks of data back, or to have the web app make fewer calls and get larger chunks of data? In particular, I'm building a Silverlight app that needs to get large amounts of data back from the server in response to a query created by a user. Each query could return anywhere from a few hundred records to a few thousand. Each record has around thirty fields of mostly decimal-type data. I've run into the situation before where the payload size of the response exceeded the maximum allowed by the service. I'm wondering whether it's better (more efficient for the server/client/web service) to cut this payload vertically--getting all values for a single field with each call--or horizontally--getting batches of complete records with each call. Or does it matter?

  My concern is performance, is there a reason to to send the client XML instead of valid HTML? Like most things, I am sure it is application dependent. My specific situation is where there is substantial content being inserted into the web page that has been pulled from a database. What are the advantages of either approach? Is the size of the content even a concern? Or, in the case of using XML, will the time for the Javascript to process the XML into HTML counterbalance the extra time that would have been required to send HTML to start with? Thanks, Jeff

• "The specified table does not exist" - for the administrator it does! Vista only issue

  Hello, I've got a weird bug occurring in a compact database on a Vista deployment machine. Basically the sdf file seem to be schizophrenic. The client application get the entitled error when running as a user but not when I use run as administrator. I don't see this problem on my XP development machine. I installed management studio onto the deployment machine and opened two versions of the application, one as user and one as administrator. When I query: SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES I see 21 tables on the one and 26 on the other, and the administrator is seeing less tables. It turns out that the user version, with 26 rows, is a previous incarnation of this database. Any ideas on why this is happening?
