  • Safe division function

    - by bugspy.net
    I would like to define some kind of safe division (and modulo) function, one that would return some predefined value when attempting to divide by zero. I don't want to throw exceptions, just to return some "reasonable" value (1? 0?) and continue the program flow. Obviously there is no correct return value, but I wonder if there is some standard or known approach to this

  • Accessing variables in other classes (Java)

    - by George
    Why doesn't the following program return 0, since I am accessing p from a new A(), which has not had main called on it? public class A { public int p = 0; public static void main(String[] args) { p = Integer.parseInt(args[0]); new B().go(); } } class B { public void go() { System.out.println(new A().p); } }

  • safely reading directory contents

    - by Jack
    Is it safe to read directory entries via readdir() or scandir() while files are being created/deleted in this directory? Should I prefer one over the other? When I say "safe" I mean entries returned by these functions are valid and can be operated without crushing the program. Thanks.

  • Can there be TEXT/BLOB columns in a table without filesort in MySQL?

    - by Tower
    Hi, I'm working on a database program and I noticed that when I'm doing queries with tables that have TEXT/BLOB columns, MySQL will use temp tables and use filesort. I'm not entirely sure when and how this happens, but are there cases where MySQL does not use filesort when there are BLOB/TEXT columns? Like if the sort column is type of VARCHAR() with an index?

  • How to copy the memeory allocated in device function back to main memory

    - by xhe8
    I have a CUDA program containing a host function and a device function Execute(). In the host function, I allocate a global memory output which will then be passed to the device function and used to store the address of the global memory allocated within the device function. I want to access the in-kernel allocated memory in the host function. The following is the code: #include <stdio.h> typedef struct { int * p; int num; } Structure_A; \__global__ void Execute(Structure_A *output); int main(){ Structure_A *output; cudaMalloc((void***)&output,sizeof(Structure_A)*1); dim3 dimBlockExecute(1,1); dim3 dimGridExecute(1,1); Execute<<<dimGridExecute,dimBlockExecute>>>(output); Structure_A * output_cpu; int * p_cpu; cudaError_t err; output_cpu= (Structure_A*)malloc(1); err=cudaMemcpy(output_cpu,output,sizeof(Structure_A),cudaMemcpyDeviceToHost); if( err != cudaSuccess) { printf("CUDA error a: %s\n", cudaGetErrorString(err)); exit(-1); } p_cpu=(int *)malloc(1); err=cudaMemcpy(p_cpu,output_cpu[0].p,sizeof(int),cudaMemcpyDeviceToHost); if( err != cudaSuccess) { printf("CUDA error b: %s\n", cudaGetErrorString(err)); exit(-1); } printf("output=(%d,%d)\n",output_cpu[0].num,p_cpu[0]); return 0; } \__global__ void Execute(Structure_A *output){ int thid=threadIdx.x; output[thid].p= (int*)malloc(thid+1); output[thid].num=(thid+1); output[thid].p[0]=5; } I can compile the program. But when I run it, I got a error showing that there is a invalid argument in the following memory copy function. "err=cudaMemcpy(p_cpu,output_cpu[0].p,sizeof(int),cudaMemcpyDeviceToHost);" CUDA version is 4.2. CUDA card: Tesla C2075 OS: x86_64 GNU/Linux

  • Is it multitasking?(c#3.0)

    - by Newbie
    Consider the below program factorThread = new Thread( new ThreadStart( delegate { Method1(); Method2(); } ) ); Is it that 2 threads are getting called parallely(multitasking) or a single thread is calling the methods sequentially? It's urgent. Thanks

  • How Can I Implement This Function?

    - by hoora
    I'm a beginner and I want to write Java code in eclipse. This program takes two LinkedLists of integers (for example, a and b) and makes a LinkedList (for example d) in which every element is the sum of elements from a and b. However, I can't add these two elements from a and b because they are Objects Example: a=[3,4,6,7,8] b=[4,3,7,5,3,2,1] ------ d=[7,7,13,12,11,2,1]

  • How to block writing in pipes, until the read has taken place ? (in C)

    - by user492194
    Hi everyone :) I'm currently working on some C program, and I'd like to know if there's any chance to block writing in the writer process (until the read is done) ? i.e. I have 3 pipes between the parent process and the children processes (the parent writes and the children read), I'd like to let the parent to write only to the process that finishes its reading :) I hope it's clear.. Thanks in advance.

  • is there and SPY++ for viewing .NET Framework messages only?

    - by Or A
    Hi, is there any good program for viewing functions / messages that are being executed on the .net framework in the background? i'm looking for something similar to what spy++ is doing, just for .NET only. I have some weird behavior that i need to understand what causing it, and i don't think on any better alternative. Thanks

  • If you knew then what you know now, what language(s) will you start learning first?

    - by John
    I will probably start with C and then Lisp. Although I started programming in C, I did not program in it as much as I want. It's fun working with the low level stuff. Learning C helped me a lot when I started working. I've only started learning Lisp now and I found it amazing that the concepts it supported from the very start are still very relevant today. Well I think it's better late than never.
