• How can I detect 'any' ajax request being completed using jQuery?

  I have a page where I can insert some javascript / jquery to manipulate the output. I don't have any other control over the page markup etc. I need to add an extra element via jquery after each present on the page. The issue is that the elements are generated via an asynchronous call on the existing page which occurs after $(document).ready is complete. Essentially, I need a way of calling my jquery after the page has loaded and the subsequent ajax calls have completed. Is there a way to detect the completion of any ajax call on the page and then call my own custom function to insert the additional elements after the newly created s ?

• Learning how to program real things.

  How would you guys recommend I actually learn to program real things? I mean, I know how to do basic academic things. I can implement a templated stack/queue/map/etc. data structure in C++ or Java or whatever. I can make a text-based hangman game or whatever. Etc etc. But how can I learn to program something real, something useful? I've done project Euler up to question 100 or so, and I feel like that's given me more mathematical maturity but not programming maturity. Should I buy a book and follow exercises, struggle through interesting projects, etc, ? In short, how did you guys transition from academic exercises to real, fun and/or useful programs?

• Mobile Safari Youtube opened via javascript

  We have a youtube player embedded in a plage in Mobile Safari and it works great. But we need to be able to launch the youtube player by a means other than user tapping the video itself, for various reasons. So I am trying to figure out what event to trigger in javascript to make it happen with no luck. None of the following appear to work. var vid = document.getElementById('vid'); vid.click(); vid.onclick(); vid.ontouchend(); vid.ontouchstart(); vid.focus(); I tried to find an event handler added to the embedded object with this snippet, but didn't find anything. for (var key in vid) { if (typeof vid[key] == 'function') console.log(key +': '+ vid[key]); } Is this just so wrapped up in a custom plugin there is no way?

• Working with EnumSet class in GWT

  I am having trouble using EnumSet on the client side. I get this runtime error message: java.util.EnumSet.EnumSetImpl is not default instantiable (it must have a zero-argument constructor or no constructors at all) and has no custom serializer. Is this is a known issue? Here is what I am doing (basically a hello world app) Service: String echo (EnumSet<Names> name) throws IllegalArgumentException; Client: echoServ.echo (EnumSet.of(Names.JOHN), new AsyncCallback<String>() { ....... }); Shared enum class enum Names { JOHN, NUMAN, OBAMA }

• Assigning a material in Blender with a script

  Question: How do you assign a material with a script to an object in blender? Info: I have this script to import a proprietary model type of mine that is basically a star map with object consisting of a single vertex. in order to make them look like stars and be visible they are all going to have a halo material assigned to them. I'm figuring out how to make this material and give it the values just fine, but I can't seem to get it to assign. I tried the most obvious thing which was: objectName.setMaterial(materialName) but that did nothing. and when i would take an object that had a material and call the getMaterial function on it, it would return nothing. there is something I'm missing here, can some one shed some light on it? • What is the best way in Silerlight to make areas of a large graphic clickable?

  In a Silverlight application I have large images which have flow charts on them. I need to handle the clicks on specific hotspots of the image where the flow chart boxes are. Since the flow charts will always be different, the information of where the hotspots has to be dynamic, e.g. in a list of coordinates. I've found article like this one but don't need the detail of e.g. the outline of countries but just simple rectangle and circle areas. I've also found articles where they talk about overlaying an HTML image map over the silverlight application, but it has to be easier than this. What is the best way to handle clicks on specific areas of an image in silverlight?

• When not to use a Drupal node?

  I've recently created a very simple CRUD table where the user stores some data. For the data, I created a custom node. The functionality works great for creating, editing, and deleting data in the CRUD table using the basic node functionality (I'm actually amazed how fast and easy it was to program the basic functionality with proper access controls using only a tiny bit of code).... Since the data isn't meant to be treated the same way as 'content' such as a blog post (no title, no body, no commments, no revisions, shouldn't show up on ?q=node page, no previews, no teasers, etc)... I find that I'm spending most of my time 'turning off' and modifying the stuff that drupal does automatically for nodes. I know its a matter of taste, but where should one draw the line on what should be treated as a node and what shouldn't? In other words, would it be better to program this stuff from scratch without using nodes?

  How can I intercept submitted form input and modify it before it is bound to my model? For example, if I wanted to trim the whitespace from all text. I have tried creating a custom model binder like so: public class CustomBinder : DefaultModelBinder { protected override void SetProperty(ControllerContext controllerContext, ModelBindingContext bindingContext, PropertyDescriptor propertyDescriptor, object value) { string newValue = ((string)value).Trim(); //example code to create new value but could be anything base.SetProperty(controllerContext, bindingContext, propertyDescriptor, newValue); } } but this doesn't seem to be invoked. Is there a better place to modify the input value? Note: I need to modify the value before it is bound and validated.

• link_to for calling an action, instead of a button_to

  I'd like to call an action with a link_to button without being redirected to another page(I don't want ajax). For you to have an idea, I'm trying to accomplish a sort "link button" in a search page. So, when the link is clicked, the page should be refreshed showing the list ordered as I tell it in the action. If I do the following in my view, it will ask me for a template called as the action, and I don't want it: <%= link_to 'M&Aacute;S RELEVANTES', search_filter_relevance_path %> My routes file looks like this: map.search_filter_relevance "/anuncios/buscar", :controller => 'announcements', :action => 'search_filter_relevance' And my controller looks like this(I haven't developed the functionality yet): def search_filter_relevance end Any help on this will be appreciated.

  Hi, In my website i have implemented custom session values. In which, on log on i set the session value to some object. This object is used to extract user specific data from db. now the problem is If user logs in with : test1.somesite.com and logs off and again logs in with: test2.somesite.com that user is still receiving the data from object specific to test1.somesite.com. the point is whichever site user frist logs in with the second time if he logs in with anathor subdomain he is always getting the data from previous sub domain login. on log out from specific domain i cleared all the sessions(tried everything): by putting HttpContext.session["UserDetail"] = null;, HttpContext.Session.Abandon() and also HttpContext.Session.Clear(); but nothing seems to work any help please

  How does one stream files, html or custom AJAX responses from web parts? Our current quick-and-very-dirty solution is to make the web part call the current page with certain query parameters, which the web part checks and instead of performing normal load it writes the required things to output and calls response end. This sounds bad since SharePoint might load other web parts and execute their code before reaching our web part. The web part is configured with data source settings which means the streaming context must be specific to the web part so it can acquire the correct data source settings.

• Cached/offline maps for iPhone?

  I'd like to use use maps in my application, so that there will be as less as possible traffic. Perfect solution would be caching of map slices. I know it's not possible with google maps (license). I took a look on OpenStreetMaps and it seems as good solution. The next: SDK. The only one I've found is from CloudMade. The problem is, I found no related API methods for caching/offline calls. Are there any alternative solutions?

• Flex 3 - Send a HTTP Get request from Flash and want Firefox to show Open With Box.

  Hi all, I am a newb developer as far as Flex and Flash is concerned. This is what I'm trying to do: 1) Send a HTTP request to our server (with a custom made URL). The URL basically tells the server to send data in a CSV format. 2) The server sends a 200 OK response, which has Content-Type: application/csv and the payload is pure CSV data. What I wish to do is, when firefox gets this 200 OK response, I want it to show the standard Open with box (the one that shows up when you download some file). I tried doing this with HTTPService. I have a "Export to CSV" button on the flash component. Upon clicking that, the flash component is able to succesfully send the HTTP request. I however don't want Flash component to handle the response, so I don't have the 's "result" tag defined. But nothing happens. Any suggestions on how to do this.

  I have to update the build number in assembly version of assemblyinfo.cs file. I have written a custom tasks which updates all the assmeblyinfo.cs under a solution before starting build. But when i change this file and try to build then some of my dlls which has reference of other dlls not able to compile as they dont find the specific version assembly. I have some files which uses strong name assembly also. Not sure how to update their version. I have tried setting specific version to false,but still same error is coming. Can you anybody tell me the good way to update the assemblyinfo.cs with incremental build number? P.S. i am using NANT tasks for automating by builds.

  I'm hoping to use google maps on my site. My addresses are stored in a db. I’m pulling up a page where the information is all dynamic. For example: mysite.com/site/business/5 (where 5 is the id of the business). Let’s say I do a query like this: function addressForMap($id) { $this->db->select(‘b.id, b.busaddress, b.buscity, b.buszip’); $this->db->from(‘business as b’); $this->db->where(‘b.id, $id); } How can I output the info to the google maps api correctly so that it display’s the map appropriately? • Possible to use Tables of same type in Linq to SQL?

  Lets say I've got an object model, where I have many collections of the same type. For example something like class StockMarketData { List<SummaryData> WeeklySummary; List<SummaryData> MonthlySummary; } class SummaryData { DateTime DateTime {get; set;} double Value {get; set;} } Those lists will map onto database tables. If you actually use L2S to generate a model from the database you will get something like: class StockMarketData { List<WeeklySummaryData> WeeklySummary; List<MonthlySummaryData> MonthlySummary; } Even though WeeklySummaryData and MonthlySummaryData have the same shape. Is it possible for Linq to SQL to create tables from a database of summary data, but get each table to contain the same type (such as shown in the top example).

• How can should I set up Flex 3 projects that reference common controls?

  I'm not a flash developer, I'm having issues figuring out how I should set up these two projects that I have in Flex Builder. I've already created projA which has a .mxml that references several custom controls & skins from com.xxx.controls within projA I now have to build projB which also has a .mxml that will create a different .swf. I want to use some of the same controls from projA I currently build projA through the command line and nant and will need to do the same for projB. Should I create a new project to move all of the common controls into? How do I then use this library project in both the projects & compile via command? Thanks!

  I know this isn't really what XPath is for but if I have a HashMap of XPath expressions to values how would I go about building an XML document. I've found dom-4j's DocumentHelper.makeElement(branch, xpath) except it is incapable of creating attributes or indexing. Surely a library exists that can do this? • why message box is always hidden behind main dialog and cannot be shown on the top

  I am using MFC to write a GUI application. I chose dialog-based application, and put picture control, edit box and buttons on it. When the picture control is mapped to the class derived from CWnd using DDX_Control, all the message boxes (including default system message box pop up when you enter invalid input in the edit box) are hidden behind main dialog until you use "alt + tab" to bring them to front. If I map the picture control to the default CStatic class, the above problem disappeared. Do anyone has some hints to solve this problem? Thank you in advance for any help.

  I have some source codes from a friend that I would like to use as referenced library in my BlackBerry project. I'm not sure about how to package the source codes into a .jar file. I tried exporting the source to a JAR file and import it as external JAR in my project, it's giving me missing stack map error. I tried to preverify the .jar file generated from the source using the provided preverification tool from BlackBerry JDE, it didn't give me any output folder. In fact, I'm not sure if the way I export the source is correct. Can anyone provide step-by-step instructions on how to package existing source code into a valid JAR file that can be imported into my project as a referenced library? Again, I'm using eclipse.   I need to ask a general question. I don't have the code in front of me because I'm writing this on my iPhone. I have a Class that represents a certain XML schema. I have a SPROC that returns this XML. What I need to do is deserialize the XML to this Class. XML: <xml> <person> <firstName>Bob</firstName> <lastName>Robby</lastName> </person> </xml> I need to deserialize this XML into the custom Person Class so I can loop through this Model and spit it out in the View. I'm sure there's some kind of casting involved, I just don't know how to do it.
