• Displaying a list of Items in a WPF form using XAML

  Hi guys, I am attempting to display a list of items (the style and controltemplate for these items are defined elsewhere) and i want to be able to add/remove as many as i want to. As i do not have infinite screen realestate I am displaying these in a ListBox control. This is the screen i have to date: What is going to happen is this. When i click the New button, i want the item to appear in the outlined area. So now for the problem: I want, when i click the New... Button, a new item to appear in the ListBox (outlined). Is it possible to do this using XAML? I am trying to work on seperating the business logic from the interface, so if there were some way to acheive this in XAML i would appreciate it. If not,can i use the custom templated item i have created in C# so that it will appear as the template specifies in the list box instead of like a normal ListBoxItem Thanks in advance!

• How can I embed a PDF in a Word Doc, and access that PDF with VBA?

  I have a word doc with some ActiveX buttons on it. When one of these buttons is pressed, a UserForm pops up with a corresponding PDF displayed, like so: This is exactly the behavior I want. However, the problem is that for this to work, the user of the word doc needs to have each of the PDFs saved on their machine as well. Here's the code for one of the buttons: Private Sub AC1Button_Click() DisplayForm.AcroPDF1.LoadFile ("C:\Users\arose\Desktop\Security Control Doc\Sub PDFs\AC1.pdf") DisplayForm.Show End Sub As you can see, the path is hardcoded in. I need to be able to distribute this word doc without needing to distribute a bunch of PDFs along with it, so is there any way to embed PDFs in a word document in such a way that they're accessible by VBA? I've discovered here that it's reasonably easy to embed a PDF in any office doc. And I've tried that: But I can't figure out how to access that PDF object in my VBA code, in order to display it on the UserForm. Any insight is appreciated, thanks!

• Formatting a barcode with hyphens in between - Assignment question

  Hi, The assignment at my first year uni computing course says my program should read a barcode number, and then display the same 13 digit barcode number separated by hyphens. For example, 9300675016902 should look like 930-067501-690-1. The restrictions say I can't use the following: No arrays No strings No functions. Any directions on this? (So far I have done this: part1 = barcode/10000000000; which gives me the first three digits, and this: part4 = barcode%10; which gives me the last digit. Thanks in advance!

• XCode Syntax Coloring Broken

  XCode frequently seems to lose it's mind, and doesn't color code system classes or provide correct "code sense" suggestions. This is endlessly frustrating. I have copied my files (sans .svn files) to a different location - same problem. I've already completely disabled the argument "placeholders" because they screw up my documents when i type too fast... all I'm asking for is for the "esc" key to display the correct list of properties and methods.

• How to determine user's language setting from LocalSystem

  I have a Windows system service that needs to communicate string information to an application running under the user's account. The strings will appear to the user so I want to make sure that the strings that the service passes to the application are in the same language as the user account. How can I tell what display language the currently logged in user has from the service code? If I can determine this, I can just load the correct resource file and be done. I don't have to support multiple user's logged in so the service will only communicate with one application instance at a time.

I need to check to see where the time period falls in a 2 year period broken into two lots of quarters then display what quarters each record falls into. Quarter 1 includes June 09, Jul 09, Aug 09 Quarter 2 includes Sept 09, Oct 09, Nov 09 Quarter 3 includes Dec 09, Jan 10, Feb 10 Quarter 4 includes Mar 10, Apr 10, May 10 Quaretr 5 includes Jun 10, Jul 10... e.g. 01/10/09 - 01/06/10 would fall into quarters 2, 3, 4 & 5 I am very new to .NET so any examples would be much appreciated.

• Jquery UI accordion question - how would you approach this?

  I am using jquery UI accordion control in one of my apps asp.net apps. The data for the accordion comes from a database, and each database record has an ID, a Title Field and a content field. The title is the heading, and the content is the data that shows up when the draw is opened... I'd like to be able to call my page like this: http://www.mywebsite.com/mypage.aspx?ID=123 and have it display all the data (as it does now), but then have the default 'drawer' of the accordion open to the section that corresponds to the ID number passed in on the url...there are about 50 sections on the page. Any suggestions on how to approach this? My questions is specific to the jquery accordion function, the rest I know. So where would be the best place to 'tag' the drawer with the unique ID's, and then what is the snippet of javascript code (I assume) that I would use 'open' that drawer based on the ID passed in?? • rails routes for permalink with namespaced class

  this one in my routes works perfectly: map.connect ':permalink', :controller = 'pages', :action = 'show' for this class: class PagesController < BackendController and on /xxx/pages it is shown like this: <%= link_to "#{item.link_name}", {:controller = :pages, :action = :show, :permalink = item.permalink} % which will generate a link like "how-to-create-permalinks". but i decided to move the PagesController into a subdirectory so the class is now written like so: class Backend::PagesController < BackendController But how does the route look like now? And how do i display it on the template so it links using the permalink? Thanks!

  Hi, I have extended IEditorInput class to define my own IEditorInput object. Furthermore, I have extended FormEditor class. I have view where I am displaying my application objects. Whenever user double clicks on items on view, I intend to display more details for this application object on the editor, which is a FormEditor. Problem I am facing is that I am receiving IEditorInput object as NULL inside extended FormEditor class. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? • VB.net 'cross-referencing' tables.

  Hello, I have a DataGridView that is being filled with data from a table. Inside this table is a column called 'group' that has the ID of an individual group in another table. What I would like to do, is when the DataGridView is filled, instead of showing the ID contained in 'group', I'd like it to display the name of the group. Is there some type of VB.net 'magic' that can do this, or do I need to cross-reference the data myself? • How do you diagnose a 500 error on Heroku when there is no error message in the logs?

  I have a Rails app on Heroku that is serving 500 errors at random intervals. Web pages will display "Internal server error" in plain text, instead of the usual "We're sorry. Something went wrong." page. When I refresh the page, it works fine.   Hi! Im using the WPF-Toolkit DataGrid with an CollectionViewSource as Source. With PropertyGroupDescriptions I can create and display groups in the Grid. My problem is that i cannot create "uneven" groups, like: A A.A A.B B B.A B.B B.B.A B.B.B C D I want some groups that are deeper than other, and some, that are only elements (C and D) and no groups. I hope it is undestandable... Has someone an idea to solve this? Thanks!

• Page load problem

  Hi, I am devolping a web application.the problem is that i am using a login control (not a .NET control) which is a part of master page and is acessible from all pages. if user log In from a page the login control updates itself and displlay some statistics of logged In user but the specific page does not reload. (some options on page are visible only to authenticated users, so that after login, page should be reloaded to display such options) after logIn methoed I wrote Reponse.Redirect(Request.Url.AbsoluteUri) after this the browser response the "Page cannot be displayed" It would be of great help to me.   I want to create a GUI driven application for a micro-controller (Atmel XMEGA) that is connected to a 128x64 dots graphics LCD (EA DOGL128-6) and 4 buttons for navigation. Controlling the display itself (e.g. drawing pixels and characters) is no problem but in order to prevent me from reinventing the wheel I was googling for a GUI-Library/-Toolkit that is written in c, includes its source code, will run on a 32 MHz 8-bit micro-controller and provides at least the following controls: panel (to group elements) menu (scrollable) icon label button line-graph (optional) But I didn't find any thing useful. Does anyone know (or better uses) such a library(preferably for free)?

• Help with game development. Render loop?

  Hello, I'm working on a simple game, this is my first game project. Most of the samples I find have a Render Loop where all the game logic is made too and I just don't like this. Let's say I have a ball with X=0, and a wall in X=10 and in a slow machine, the first loop places the ball in X=7 and in a second loop, it places the ball in X=14. It would just crash the game! Is this "render loop" the right way to make games? Should I write code to check for things like this in every frame? Example, new frame X=14, last frame have X=7, so I should check if there's anything from X=7 to X=14?? I was thinking that I should have a separated thread for the game logic and in the render loop, I should just "take a snapshot" of the current game logic and display that, no? How do you guys, experienced game developers work around this? thanks!

• Apache rewrite with many slash not working?

  I have modified a website with a redirection to a single page: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -s [OR] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -l [OR] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d RewriteRule ^.*$ - [NC,L] RewriteRule ^.*$ index.php [NC,L] It works as it suppose to be. Everything is redirected to index.php. Here is a working example that display index.php with all images and css: http://.....com/section1 The problem occur when I try : http://....com/section1/subsection The page is redirected to index.php, BUT no images, no css, no javascript. Inside the PHP script everything is like this directly linked to the images or css or javascript like: <img src="images/images1.png> ... <img src="images2.png"> Why does url with many slash like .com../123/123/whatever does not work with images, css or javascript when .com/no_slash_url works?

• HTML Chrome Audit Specify Image Dimensions

  I just started using the chrome developer tools for some basic html websites and I used the audit tool. I had two identical images, one with the height and width attribute, and one without. On the Resources section, both the latency and the download time were identical. However, the Audit showed Specify image dimensions (1) A width and height should be specified for all images in order to speed up page display. Does this actually help? And are there any other ways to speed up page time? This is only a splash page for the website I am building and as such it is only html, no css or javascript or anything. I have already compressed the images but I want to speed up load time even more. Is there a way?

  When clicking a button, I have a ModalPopupExtender (Panel) that gets displayed. I can't seem to trigger any event during that process. Adding an event to the button that opens the ModalPopupExtender doesnt work, as it never triggers. Adding the button as a trigger in my UpdatePanel also doesnt work. Scenario: I have a gridview with a button outside of the gridview. Clicking the button opens up a ModalPopupExtender which needs to display the checkboxes clicked on the gridview. I have the code to get the checkboxes clicked on the Gridview, however I cant seem to use an event during the process of opening the ModalPopupExtender.

• Can a http server detect that a client has cancelled their request?

  My web app must process and serve a lot of data to display certain pages. Sometimes, the user closes or refreshes a page while the server is still busy processing it. This means the server will continue to process data for several minutes only to send it to a client who is no longer listening. Is it possible to detect that the connection has been broken, and react to it? In this particular project, we're using Django and NginX, or Apache. I assumed this is possible because the Django development server appears to react to cancelled requests by printing Broken Pipe exceptions. I'd love to have it raise an exception that my application code could catch. Alternatively, I could register an unload event handler on the page in question, have it do a synchronous XHR requesting that the previous request from this user be cancelled, and do some kind of inter-process communication to make it so. Perhaps if the slower data processing were handed to another process that I could more easily identify and kill, without killing the responding process...
