• Dark themes in IDE with multiple monitors [closed]

  There has been numerous posts about developers that prefer a dark color scheme in their IDE. Most of the themes at studiostyl.es are dark themes. Back when I had a single monitor, I did enjoy using a dark theme since it was easier on the eyes. But now that I utilize multiple monitors, I find dark themes actually hurt my eyes. Most of the time I have my IDE open on one monitor and a browser/email/documentation open on my other monitors. Only my IDE has a dark theme and most of websites/documentation have a white background. This forces my eyes to constantly adjust between my dark IDE and the white website, which puts strain on my eyes. I'm sure I'm not the only person who tries to use a dark theme for the IDE and have multiple monitors. How do other people deal with this issue?

He then reminded me, in even less uncertain terms, that we are one week away from the event. There were other reminders past that, but this is a family broadcast. *shudder*Now, let us be serious for a moment. The event organizers claim a personal story helps to tug heart strings, whatever those are...I've been to Children's Hospital of Birmingham. I had to take Spawn, the Latter, there to verify she was not going to die. Instead, she's just a ticking time bomb for the next generation, but I digress.While I was there, I saw things. I saw child after child after child waiting for their appointment. I saw the most sublime displays of children's art juxtaposed with hospital sterilization that I could ever possibly imagine. I saw and heard things that only occur in the nightmares of parents, and I was only in the waiting rooms.But I will never forget the 10-ish year old girl that came in for her regularly scheduled dialysis appointment ... as if it was just another Friday afternoon. She had her school books, a little snack, a book to read for pleasure, and a DVD, in case she finished her homework a little early. You know, everything you'd need for an afternoon hooked up to a huge medical machine that going to clean out all the toxins in your blood. As she entered the secured area, she warmly greeted all the doctors and nurses with the same familiarity that I would greet the staff of my favorite coffee shop as I stopped in for my morning cup of coffee.I don't know the status of that little girl. I don't know if she's healthy or, quite frankly, alive. I don't even know her name, as I only heard it in passing for the 37 seconds our paths crossed. However, I do remember being incredibly moved and touched by her upbeat attitude about the situations, and I hope that my efforts last two Octobers got her, in some way, a little comfort.And, if she is still with us, I hope we can get her a little more.=== PREVIOUS MESSAGE FOLLOWS ===Greetings (Again),If you are receiving this updated message, then you didn't feel generous the first time.   I've never found the ideal way to perform code reviews and yet often my customers require them. Each customer seems to do them in a different way and I've never felt satisfied in any of them. What has been the most effective way for you to perform code reviews? For example: Is one person regarded as the gatekeeper for quality and reviews the code, or do the team own the standard? Do you do review code as a team exercise using a projector? Is it done in person, via email or using a tool? Do you eschew reviews and use things like pair programming and collective code ownership to ensure code quality?

The lecturers either coming back to me, saying that they couldn't get good students, or just ignore my mail.   I'm sure most webmasters have recived a mail like this: Creating [insert item here] is not working! When you check it out there is no general problem with the function but rather the user has discovered an edge case. Almost every mail I get is like this and in the long run it gets a bit annoying to always have to ask the user for more information. Is there anything I can do to get my users provide more useful feedback? Right now I have a mailto: for the webmaster mail in the page footer. I was thinking of changing this so that they have to report through a form on the site. Anyone got any experience with this? Do you get better/more reports by having a feedback form instead of giving the users the email?

For some reason, the wireless in my room doesn't work. However, other buildings use only A/B/G, they say. In any other building, my wireless works fine. • After upgrade: what's this envelope systray icon, and how do I get rid of it?

  I've just upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 and everything seems to be running fine. I have a couple new icons in my systray, though, and one of them -- the envelope icon -- is a mystery to me: It looks like a chat notifier (clicking it gives "Available", "Away", "Busy", etc., indicators) but I don't use Pidgin (never have), or it could be an email indicator but I don't use Thunderbird (never have). There's nothing else I can see (left- or right-clicking) that identifies it. I'd like to get rid of it, but "Startup applications" only lists the ones I have optionally added, and this is not among them. Any help appreciated!

• Can't access shared drive when connecting over VPN

  I can ping all network devices but it doesn't seem that DNS is resolving their hostnames. ipconfig/ all is showing that I am pointing to the correct dns server. I can "ping "dnsname"" and it will resolve but it wont resolve any other names. Split tunnel is set up so outside DNS is resolving fine So one issue might be DNS but I have the IP address of the server share so I figure I could just get to it that way. example: \10.0.0.1\ well I can't get to it that way either and I get "the specified network name is no longer available" I can ping it but I can't open the share.   Consider a blog, related to blogging and SEO. The domain has been dropped (expired) 2 times before acquisition. The current owner is the 3rd owner of the domain since 5 months. Blog posts are not ranking, even for exact titles. Google+ or other shares will show up instead of the content. Some blog posts are not even indexed. Let us TAKE that it gets around 7 organic visits / day. Dropped domain, less likely used for spam (WayBack machine (2 Reframed drops) 3 captures since 2004, Don't know whether there was Email spam) (But no manual actions in WMT, so no reconsideration request). What could be the reason for this? How can Google be told that ownership is changed and the domain is now spam-free? Would this domain be salvageble, or does this only change after relocating to another domain?

• Which Edition of SQL Server 2008 R2 should you use?

  SQL Server 2008 R2 has just released to manufacturing (RTM’d) as I write this. With each new release, we make changes to the “Editions” we offer. A SQL Server “version” deals with the major changes in the product – and “edition” is a set of features and capabilities within that version (you’re welcome). So… definitely run over to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993(v=SQL.105).aspx and check out the changes. For instance, did you know that SQL Server Express now supports 10GB databases? • T-SQL Tuesday #36 (#tsql2sday)– Post-PASS Summit Depression

  I had an email thread going with a prominent member of the SQL Server community today, where he confessed that he didn’t attend any sessions during the PASS Summit last week. He spent all of this time networking and catching up with people. I, personally, can relate. This year’s Summit was another incarnation of that ritual of SQL Server professionals meeting to share their knowledge, experience, and just have a wonderful time while doing so. It’s been a few days after the Summit is over, and I’m definitely dealing with withdrawal.
