  I know Guitar pro doesn't support 64 bit, but i did get it to work with this command jeggy@jeggy-XPS:~$ sudo dpkg --force-architecture -i GuitarPro6-rev9063.deb [sudo] password for jeggy: Selecting previously unselected package guitarpro6:i386. • Communication between WCF service [library] and Self-host [Winform]

  Introduction: I have a WCF service library and a self-host Winform. Service features is File explorer including (copy, move, delete, new folder, delete... etc) and Task Manager (run, kill, update list). Then now I want to add other features like chatting between self-host and client, send an image from client to self-host so when it received, it is shown in a pictureBox in a new form. Till now I have two endpoints for (Task Manager, File Manager) that runs under one service "MainService". And I set up all the connections using DotNet 4.0 WCF Configuration and Wizards, and I'm using netTcpBinding. Problem: I need to know how to communicate with between WCF service lib and self-host, so I can append a received chat from client on self-host form's textbox TextBoxChat. And also call a client callback from self-host when Send button clicked, to send the message from self-host textbox TextBoxMessage. Let's say this's self-host ChatForm So is it possible to do that in WCF? I would prefer to run ChatEndpoint under MainService, so all Endpoints use one port.

• Lubuntu upgrade to 13.04 killed sound with ALSA. How to troubleshoot?

  After upgrading to 13.04 from 12.10 Lubuntu lost audio playback after unplugging usb soundcard (Polycom) and plugging it back in. Volume control was gray and leading to pulseaudio mixer (not installed) so I uninstalled the pulseaudio package. I also removed and reinstalled the alsa-base package. UPDATE: I removed the usb soundcard and got rid of all alsa config. Everything is working as before the install but it sure feels fragile.

  One of the 6 sessions I and Mikael Nitell is running on MSDN Live 2010 here in Norway is about Code Quality, and part of that session goes through the use of Code Contracts and Pex.  Both fantastic tools ! They can be used togethers, but are also completely independent from each other, and can be used as a single Code Contracts  has to downloaded separately from VS 2010 (works also on VS 2008).   Start looking at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/devlabs/dd491992.aspx . This download is a free download.   Code Contracts originates form the ideas of Bertrand Meyer – Design by Contract, take a look here. Pex is found on the MSDN Subscription download, so it requires an active MSDN Subscription.   I've been using verbatim string literals for some time now, and never quite thought about using a regular string literal until I started to come across them in Microsoft provided XNA samples. With that said, I'm trying to implement a new AudioManager class from the Net Rumble sample. I have two (2) issues here: Question 1: In my code for my GameplayScreen screen I have a folder location written as the following, and it works fine: menuButton = content.Load<SoundEffect>(@"sfx/menuButton"); menuClose = content.Load<SoundEffect>(@"sfx/menuClose"); If you notice, you'll see that I'm using a verbatim string, with a forward slash "/". In the AudioManager class, they use a regular string literal, but with two backslashes "\". I understand that one is used as an escape, but why are they BACK instead of FORWARD? (See below) soundList[soundName] = game.Content.Load<SoundEffect>("audio\\wav\\"+ soundName); Question 2: I seem to be doing everything correctly in my AudioManager class, but I'm not sure of what this line means: audioFileList = audioFolder.GetFiles("*.xnb"); I suppose that the *xnb means look for everything BUT files that end in *xnb? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with my file locations, as the sound effects are not playing. • Recommendations for adjustable sit-stand workstations?

  Recently, I've been feeling the discomfort of sitting at my desk all day long. I'm fairly active, stretch, and take regular breaks, but some days it's still pretty uncomfortable to sit all day long, whether in a nice chair or on an exercise ball. I would really like able to stand at my computer for part of the day. My current setup is a large desk with two 26" lcds and a 17" laptop. I don't mind if the laptop isn't adjustable, as I don't use it as regularly as the monitors. I would like to be able to fairly easily switch from a sitting position to a standing position and back again as necessary. I've been looking into adjustable height desks and stands and found that they tend to be either really expensive, or don't quite meet my needs. (For example, the Ergotron WorkFit-S Dual LCD workstation looks like the ideal feature set at a reasonable price, but won't fit with my monitors.) Any suggestions or thoughts? Update: fixed a typo. • Getting rid of Massive View Controller in iOS?

  I had a discussion with my colleague about the following problem. We have an application where we need filtering functionality. On any main screen within the upper navigation bar, there is a button in the upper right corner. Once you touch that button, an custom written Alert View like view will pop up modally, behind it a semitransparent black overlay view. In that modal view, there is a table view of options, and you can choose one exclusively. Based on your selection, once this modal view is closed, the list of items in the main view is filtered. It is simply a modally presented filter to filter the main table view.This UI design is dictated by the design department, I cannot do anything about it so let accept this as a premise. Also the main filter button in the navbar will change colours to indicate that the filter is active. The question I have is about implementation. I suggested to my colleague that we create a separate XYZFilter class that will be an instance created by the main view controller acquire the filtering options handle saving and restoration of its state - i.e. last filter selected provide its two views - the overlay view and the modal view be the datasource for the table in its modal view. For some unknown reason, my colleague was not impressed by that approach at all. He simply wants to do these functionalities in the main view controller, maybe out of being used to do this in the past like that :-/ Is there any fundamental problem with my approach? I want to keep the view controller small, not to have spaghetti code create a reusable component (for use outside the project) have more object oriented, decoupled approach. prevent duplication of code as we need the filtering in two different places but it looks the same in both.. Any advice?

• How To Change Window Transparency in Windows 7 with a Hotkey

  Linux has a lot of eye-candy because of Compiz, my favorite of which is the window opacity plugin. Using a short AutoHotKey script, you can add that same functionality to Windows 7. I used this AHK script as a basis for changing opacity. It uses a single hotkey to change the active window’s transparency by 25% each time until it resets to 0. I wanted functionality similar to Compiz, so I modified the script to use the mouse wheel and shortened the increments to get more variety. Just hold down the Windows key and scroll down to see through the window. This decreases opacity and makes windows more transparent.   I wanted to officially thank the organizers, speakers, volunteers and the attendees of SharePoint Saturday South Florida. Being the first event in South Florida the reception was phenomenon and the group of speakers from keynote by Joel Oleson to session’s speakers from well renowned speakers like John Holliday, Randy Disgrill, Richard Harbridge, Ameet Phadnis, Fabian Williams, Chris McNulty, Jaime Velez to organizers like Michael Hinckley amongst others. With my Business Intelligence (BI) presentation being on the last track of the day, I spent very quality time networking with these great guys and getting the insider scope on International SharePoint Community from Joel and his son which was mesmerizing. I had a very active audience to a point where we couldn’t accommodate all the contents within the 1hr allocated time because they were very engaged and wanted a deep dive session on news features like PowerPivot, enhancements on PerformancePoint, Excel Services amongst others in order to understand the business value and how SharePoint 2010 is making the self-service BI become a reality.
