  • Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture not working consistently

    I've been working on a pet project on the weekends to learn more about C# and have encountered an odd problem when working with localization. To be more specific, the problem I have is with System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture. I've set up my app so that the user can quickly change the language of the app by clicking a menu item. The menu item in turn, saves the two-letter code for the language (e.g. "en", "fr", etc.) in a user setting called 'Language' and then restarts the application. Properties.Settings.Default.Language = "en"; Properties.Settings.Default.Save(); Application.Restart(); When the application is started up, the first line of code in the Form's constructor (even before InitializeComponent()) fetches the Language string from the settings and sets the CurrentUICulture like so: public Form1() { Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new CultureInfo(Properties.Settings.Default.Language); InitializeComponent(); } The thing is, this doesn't work consistently. Sometimes, all works well and the application loads the correct language based on the string saved in the settings file. Other times, it doesn't, and the language remains the same after the application is restarted. At first I thought that I didn't save the language before restarting the application but that is definitely not the case. When the correct language fails to load, if I were to close the application and run it again, the correct language would come up correctly. So this implies that the Language string has been saved but the CurrentUICulture assignment in my form constructor is having no effect sometimes. Any help? Is there something I'm missing of how threading works in C#? This could be machine-specific, so if it makes any difference I'm using Pentium Dual-Core CPU. UPDATE Vlad asked me to check what the CurrentThread's CurrentUICulture is. So I added a MessageBox on my constructor to tell me what the CurrentUICulture two-letter code is as well as the value of my Language user string. MessageBox.Show(string.Format("Current Language: {0}\nCurrent UI Culture: {1}", Properties.Settings.Default.Language, Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture.TwoLetterISOLanguageName)); When the wrong language is loaded, both the Language string and CurrentUICulture have the wrong language. So I guess the CurrentUICulture has been cleared and my problem is actually with the Language Setting. So I guess the problem is that my application sometimes loads the previously saved language string rather than the last saved language string. If the app is restarted, it will then load the actual saved language string.

  • In Magento, is it possible to populate your product models from an external API instead of the Magento DB?

    I currently have Magento 1.7 CE installed. I want to use the Magento Product Models, except I want to get the price for the product from an external API (our pricing exists outside of Magento). I know what I could use the Magento API to import all the prices from our existing database, but our pricing changes very often, and we would then need to maintain two databases. Basically I'm wondering if there is something in Magento I can overwrite to call our API instead of the DB?

    Most of my users have email addresses associated with their profile in /etc/passwd. They are always in the 5th field, which I can grab, but they appear at different places within a comma-separated list in the 5th field. Can somebody give me a regex to grab just the email address (delimeted by commas) from a line in this file? What I want to do now, is to have a simple graphical animation (5 keyframes or so) that loops as well, while the music plays along.     We've noticed that when checking in updates that our .DFM files have had ExplicitWidth and ExplicitHeight properties added for what appears to be no particular reason. My two questions are, what are they for and why do they get automatically added by Delphi?     Hi, I need to use ZendAMF on a symfony project and I'm currently working on integrating the two. I have a frontend app with two modules, one of which is 'gateway' - the AMF gateway. In my frontend app config, I have the following in the configure function: // load symfony autoloading first parent::initialize(); // Integrate Zend Framework require_once('[MY PATH TO ZEND]\Loader.php'); spl_autoload_register(array('Zend_Loader', 'autoload')); The executeIndex function my the gateway actions.class.php looks like this // No Layout $this->setLayout(false); // Set MIME Type $this->getResponse()->setContentType('application/x-amf; charset='.sfConfig::get('sf_charset')); // Disable cause this is a non-html page sfConfig::set('sf_web_debug', false); // Create AMF Server $server = new Zend_Amf_Server(); $server->setClass('MYCLASS'); echo $server->handle(); return sfView::NONE; Now when I try to visit the url for the gateway module, or even the other module which was working perfectly fine until this attempt, I only see a blank screen, with not even the symfony dev bar loaded. Oddly enough, my symfony logs are not being updated as well, which suggests that Synfony is not even being 'reached'. So presumably the error has something to do with Zend, but I have no idea how to figure out what the error could be. One thing I do know for sure is that this is not a file path error, because if I change the path in the following line (a part of frontendConfiguration as shown above), I get a Zend_Amf_Server not found error. So the path must be correct. Also if I comment out this very same line, the second module resumes to normality, and my gateway broadcasts a blank x-amf stream. spl_autoload_register(array('Zend_Loader', 'autoload')); Does anyone have any tips on how I could attach this problem? Thanks P.S. I'm currently running an older version of Zend, which is why I am using Zend_Loader instead of Zend_autoLoader (I think). But I've tried switching to the new lib, but the error still remains. So it's not a version problem as well.

    Hi guys. I have a table in SQL Server which looks like this: ID Code Name Surname 1 MS Mike Smith 2 JD John Doe 3 UP Unknown Person and so on... Now I want to bind the data from this table into the ComboBox in a way that in the ComboBox I have displayed value from the Code column. I am doing the binding in this way: SqlDataAdapter sqlAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM dbo.Users ORDER BY Code", MainConnection); sqlAdapter.Fill(dsUsers, "Users"); cbxUsers.DataSource = dsUsers.Tables["Users"]; cmUsers = (CurrencyManager)cbxUsers.BindingContext[dsUsers.Tables["Users"]]; cbxUsers.DisplayMember = "Code"; And this code seems to work. I can scroll through the list of Codes. Also I can start to write code by hand and ComboBox will autocomplete the code for me. However, I wanted to put a label at the top of the combobox to display Name and Surname of the currently selected user code. My line of though was like that: "So, I need to find an event which will fire up after the change of code in combobox and in that event I will get the current DataRow..." I was browsing through the events of combobox, tried many of them but without a success. For example: private void cbxUsers_SelectionChangeCommitted(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (cmUsers != null) { DataRowView drvCurrentRowView = (DataRowView)cmUsers.Current; DataRow drCurrentRow = drvCurrentRowView.Row; lblNameSurname.Text = Convert.ToString(drCurrentRow["Name"]) + " " + Convert.ToString(drCurrentRow["Surname"]); } } This give me a strange results. Firstly when I scroll via mouse scroll it doesn't return me the row wich I am expecting to obtain. For example on JD it shows me "Mike Smith", on MS it shows me "John Doe" and on UP it shows me "Mike Smith" again! The other problem is that when I start to type in ComboBox and press enter it doesn't trigger the event. However, everything works as expected when I bind data to lblNameSurname.Text in this way: lblNameSurname.DataBindings.Add("Text", dsusers.Tables["Users"], "Name"); The problem here is that I can bind only one column and I want to have two. I don't want to use two labels for it (one to display name and other to display surname). So, what is the solution to my problem? Also, I have one question related to the data selection in ComboBox. Now, when I type something in the combobox it allows me to type letters that are not existing in the list. For example, I start to type "J" and instead of finishing with "D" so I would have "JD", I type "Jsomerandomtexthere". Combobox will allow that but such item does not exists on the list. In other words, I want combobox to prevent user from typing code which is not on the list of codes. Thanks in advance for your time.

    Hi!:) In my extension, when a button named "mybutton1" in the popup.html is clicked, it sends a message "getvar1" to the contentscript.js, then the contentscript.js sends a message "i want var1" to the background.html to get an object named "var1".If the button named "mybutton2" is clicked, the contentscript.js gets the "var2" object. How should i do under this condition? What's more, i am a little confused about the chrome.extension.onRequest.addListener method and chrome.extension.sendRequest method.Could someone tell me the mechanism of the two methods? Thanks!
