• Server 2008/Windows 7/Samba Unspecified error 80004005

  I have a Samba share on a LAN with 2008 PDC/DNS. Smb authenticates with AD and I have several Win7 Machines that can connect fine. I recently added a couple of new computers to the LAN which were imaged the same way (same software, etc.; different hardware so different drivers) as the other machines and they have the same policies set. I can not get the new machines to connect to the samba share no matter what. I am always met with either Unspecified Error 0x80004005 or Network Path not found. I've turned off the firewall; set LANMAN auth to respond to NTLM only/send LM & NTLM responses/use NTLM session security if negotiated in Local Sec Policy SEcurity Options; tried both ip and hostname to connect. I am in no mans land as I am a developer and not a sys admin but I have to assume many roles. So I'm reaching out for help. Sometimes I will see hundreds of these 'C0000005' scriptengine errors in the event log in a matter of seconds and other times just a few times an hour. I googled this line 'ASP!CACTIVESCRIPTENGINE::GETAPPLICATION' and got nothing. Its like the function don't exist or something. I have spent many hours google-ing to no avail and am now turning to the experts on the forums. Thank you for your help

• How do you splice out a part of an xvid encoded avi file, with ffmpeg? (no problems with other files

  Im using the following command, which works for most files, except what seems to be xvid encoded ones /usr/bin/ffmpeg -sameq -i file.avi -ss 00:01:00 -t 00:00:30 -ac 2 -r 25 -copyts output.avi So this should basically splice out 30 seconds of video + audio, starting from 1 minute mark. It does START encoding at the 00:01:00 mark but it goes all the way to the end of the file for some reason, ignoring that I want just 30 seconds. The output looks like this. • Ping Unknown Host on CentOS at EC2

  Weird problem. We have a collection of servers running CentOS 5 on EC2. The setup includes two DNS servers and two LDAP servers. DNS has a CNAME pointing at the primary LDAP server. One machine (and only one machine) is giving me problems. I can ssh into the server using LDAP authentication. But once I'm on the machine, ping won't resolve the LDAP host even though DNS seems to work fine. • NIC is receiving, but not transmitting at all?

  I'm trying to fix a very strange problem remotely on a machine at a customer site. The machine is a Dell PowerEdge, I believe a 1950 (haven't verified, but the lspci output matches specs I found.) The machine has two similar NICs, identified as Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 12) by lspci, and using the bnx2 driver. (I suspect these are on-board and on the same controller, which is what I'm accustomed to for this type of machine.) The primary interface eth0 works perfectly, and is in fact how I am ssh'd in. However, the secondary interface eth1 is not transmitting. I can see this in ifconfig output, for example, where the TX field is always 0. However, it is receiving, and tcpdump shows ARP requests coming from the ISP's gateway on the other side. The interface is physically connected to a Siemens BSTU4 modem, configured by the ISP. The link is properly set to 10MBps and full duplex, without negotation, as the ISP requested. A small /30 subnet is configured. For the sake of anonimity, let's say the machine is 3.3.3.2/30, and the ISP's gateway .1. The machine has no firewall settings whatsoever. Even running something like arping -I eth1 3.3.3.1, and running tcpdump alongside, shows no traffic whatsoever being transmitted on the interface. (But the other side keeps steadily sending ARP requests, and that is all that can be seen.) What could be causing this?   My server has 2 ips: x.x.x.73 and x.x.x.248. I can access my site via these ips, using Web browser. {Now, from a CentOS machine (not my server), using terminal} If I: dig @x.x.x.73 mydomain.com dig @x.x.x.248 mydomain.com I get the result: Connection timed out; no server could be reached. Could somebody please tell me how to fix it? Thank you. • Windows Server 2008 R2 Firewall - Interface specific rules

  I'm trying to define per interface rules, much like it was in Server 2003. We will be replacing our old 2003 server with a new 2008 R2 server. The server runs IIS and SQL Server. It's a dedicated server at the hosting company. We use a OpenVPN connection from the office to access SQL server, RDesktop, FTP and other administrative services. Only http and ssh is listening on the public interface. On the old server running 2003, I was able to define global rules for http and ssh, and allow other services only on the vpn interface. I can't find a way to do the same on 2008 R2. I understand that there is the Network Location Awareness service, firewall rules are applied according to the current network location. But I don't understand the purpose of this on a server. The only close solution I found is to set the scope on the firewall rule and restrict remote ip addresses to the private subnet of the office. But the ports will still be listening on the public interface. So how can I restrict a firewall rule to the connections coming from the vpn interface ? A note on this page states that scoping a rule to an interface does not exist anymore: In earlier versions of Windows, many of these command accepted a parameter called interface. This parameter is not supported in the firewall context in Windows Vista or later versions of Windows. I can't believe that they simply decided to remove a core firewall functionality that every firewall has. There must be a way to restrict a rule to an interface. Any ideas ? I'm still unable to find an adequate solution to my problem. So for now, my workaround is this: Administrative services listen on VPN IP address Firewall rules restrict the scope to the local IP address of VPN Public services listen on all interfaces, no scope restriction on firewall rules This is not optimal, if I change the IP address of the VPN, I need to edit the firewall rules too. It won't be the case if the rules were bound to the interface.

• Why do I sometimes get 'sh: $'\302\211 ... ': command not found' in xterm/sh?

  Sometimes when I simply type a valid command like 'find ...', or anything really, I get back the following, which is completely unexpected and confusing (... is command name I type): sh: $'\302\211...': command not found There is some corruption going on I think. I don't use color in my prompt, I am using the Bash shell in POSIX mode as sh (chsh to /bin/sh and so on - $SHELL is sh). What is going on and why does this keep happening? Anything I can debug? I think this is more of an xterm issue than sh, or at least a combination of the two. • Email client wont connect to SMTP Authentication server

  Im having trouble installing SMTH Auth for my ubuntu email server. I have followed ubuntu own guide for SMTH AUT (https://help.ubuntu.com/14.04/serverguide/postfix.html). But my email client thunderbird is giving this error " lost connection to SMTP-client 127.0.0.1." I cant add new users to thundbird either because of this connection problem. Do i have to alter any setting on my Thunderbird perhaps since ? I did try to make thunderbird use SSL for imap as well but that neither works. I restarted postfix and dovecot to find errors but both run just fine. Prior to SMTP auth changes thunderbird could connect just fine to my server and send mails. This is my main.cf file in postfix. It's a slave name server in my nameserver "farm". Technically I have ns1 (being the master) and ns2/ns3. Currently ns1/ns2 are down for maintenance, so I left ns3 at it serving live traffic. That's the point, DNS is supposed to be resilient. Now the odd part is, "1.2.3.4" was serving requests for example.com just fine for the last 4-5 days. This morning I get a phone call that it's non-responsive. After investigation I see the message you see above, SERVFAIL. I looked into the zone file and saw the following: example.com IN SOA ns1.example.com. hostmaster.mail.example.com. ( I wondered if at this point that the nameserver thought it was not authoritative over example.com and adjusted it to the following: example.com IN SOA ns3.example.com. hostmaster.mail.example.com. ( After that, it started responding again for all authoritative queries for example.com. I have no idea why. I thought these things were supposed to be normalized upon zone transfer from ns1 - ns3? Can someone please example why this happened and how to prevent it from happening in the future? I've never had a similar problem, and because I don't understand it well, I might be missing some critical information in this question. So please let me know if I can further add any detail to make things clearer as well. One more thing to note: I have other domains that I'm authoritative for that have their SOA still saying ns1.example.com. and not ns3.example.com. Those domains are serving requests just fine! Is it a matter of time before they stop also and I have to change SOA to ns3.example.com? Is this also only required because ns1 and ns2 are currently offline?

• Have a server, need to figure out a method of backup

  My company has an older Dell 2650 server running ArchLinux x64: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/pedge/en/2650_specs.pdf (2 x 2.4GHz Intel Xeon w/around 3287 RAM according to "free -m") We use it to host our internal company site and to post some information from our orders to and we'd like the ability to keep it up as much as possible. What we require: - It needs to always be functional from 8am to 4pm for our data entry person to use it and others to do other things required on it. - If it goes down, we need a quick way to get the machine running again. - If it goes down, we would like to have the data backed up. Some of the major problems include: - The servers old and it may have memory issues - We don't know when one of the hard drives could fail - Our power goes out here once in a while We have a battery backup, but that's pretty much it and it's not for long term. If the server does go down, we have another system in place to store order information that comes in while it's down and repost it when it's back, but we need it up during the day. So we're wondering, what should we get for options? These are the things we thought of, sort of: Setup RAID 1, but that would involve wiping everything right? If we do that, how would we transfer the data over without messing up the server? We could buy an extra server or 2 off eBay for $100, the same model, is that practical or should we get something else? Should we buy a PC or another better server and host off that because it is if anything easier to exchange parts? Should we keep extra parts handy incase it implodes? Should we buy/use backup software? We hear drobo's are cool, but suck. Perhaps there is a software solution to this problem that backs up to another machine or gets us up and running again quickly. Also, if we are to purchase hardware, what is decent? Does anybody know of one for ArchLinux/Linux? We both know a ton about computers but we're kind of unsure what step to take with this, especially with this type of server. Thanks

• Cloud storage provider lost my data. How to back up next time?

  What do you do when cloud storage fails you? First, some background. A popular cloud storage provider (rhymes with Booger Link) damaged a bunch of my data. Getting it back was an uphill battle with all the usual accusations that it was my fault, etc. Finally I got the data back. Yes, I can back this up with evidence. Idiotically, I stayed with them, so I totally get that the rest of this is on me. The problem had been with a shared folder that works with all 12 computers my business and family use with the service. We'll call that folder the Tragic Briefcase. It is a sort of global folder that's publicly visible to all computers on the service. It's our main repository. Today I decided to deal with some residual effects of the Crash of '11. Part of the damage they did was that in just one of my computers (my primary, of course) all the documents in the Tragic Briefcase were duplicated in the Windows My Documents folder. I finally started deleting them. But guess what. Though they appeared to be duplicated in the file system, removing them from My Documents on the primary PC caused them to disappear from the Tragic Briefcase too. They efficiently disappeared from all the other computers' Tragic Briefcases as well. So now, 21 gigs of files are gone, and of course I don't know which ones. I want to avoid this in the future. Apart from using a different storage provider, the bigger picture is this: how do I back up my cloud data? A complete backup every week or so from web to local storage would cause me to exceed my ISP's bandwidth. Do I need to back up each of my 12 PCs locally? I do use Backupify for my primary Google Docs, but I have been storing taxes, confidential documents, Photoshop source, video source files, and so on using the web service. So it's a lot of data, but I need to keep it safe. Backup locally would also mean 2 backup drives or some kind of RAID per PC, right, because you can't trust a single point of failure? Assuming I move to DropBox or something of its ilk, what is the best way to make sure that if the next cloud storage provider messes up I can restore?

  I am having trouble with a DataGridView. I have a collection of 3 Items bound to the grid, when trying to delete one of the items and reload the grid. If have code of If (dlg.ShowDialog() = DialogResult.OK) Then 'Show dialog with grid on it End If On the opened dialog, I delete an item from the grid (which should in turn, delete the item from the collection, and re-load the grid), and it returns to the "If (dlg.show..." line, with the error of "A first chance exception of type 'System.IndexOutOfRangeException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll Additional information: Index 2 does not have a value. " (I have break into debugger set on for common language runtime errors) I can understand this error if i were trying to access any cells, row or columns, but im not, and then I would expect the exception to stop on the line of code that is trying to access this grid data, not the "If (dlg.ShowDialog()... " line Any ideas? Cheers

  I am following the accepted answer of ASP.NET MVC How to pass JSON object from View to Controller as Parameter. Like the original question, I have a simple POCO. • WPF TreeView databinding to hide/show expand/collapse icon

  I implemented a WPF load-on-demand treeview like described in this (very good) article. In the mentioned solution a dummy element is used to preserve the expand + icon / treeview item behavior. The dummy item is replaced with real data, when the user clicks on the expander. I want to refine the model by adding a property public bool HasChildren { get { ... } } to my backing TreeNodeViewModel. Question: How can I bind this property to hide/show the expand icon (in XAML)? I am not able to find a suitable trigger/setter combination. (INotifyPropertyChanged is properly implemented.) Thanks for your time. Update 1: I want to use my property public bool HasChildren instead of using the dummy element. Determining whether or not an item has children is somewhat costly, but still much cheaper than fetching the children.

When I outsource one of the graphs into an external js file I get this message "NS_ERROR_DOM_BAD_URI: Access to restricted URI denied". If I delete the code with d3.json where it reads a local json file the error disappears.   Hi, unfortunately im REALLY stuck on this and was wondering in anyone knows how to work around this. I have some html text which i want displayed in a WPF RichTextBox. At the moment, i'm using some helper APIs found http://blogs.msdn.com/wpfsdk/archive/2006/05/25/606317.aspx to convert HTML to XAML. So at the moment i have a xaml data string, but i cant see to find a way to display this correctly within the richtextbox :s i have been trying the following: string xamlData = HTMLConverter.HtmlToXamlConverter.ConvertHtmlToXaml(sBody,true); FlowDocument result = XamlReader.Load(new System.Xml.XmlTextReader(new StringReader(xamlData))) as FlowDocument; but this is crashing on the XamlReader.. Any other way will do, i just need to display an HTML string in this RichTextBox or something else! Please Help!

The password was not specified, or is not correct. End Error Could not load package "\sw-conf-dev-01\projects\dtsx\Email.dtsx" because of error 0xC0014037. Description: Failed to remove package protection with error 0xC0014037 "The package is encrypted with a password. The password was not specified, or is not correct.". This occurs in the CPackage::LoadFromXML method I have used the same password in the package as well, but i don't know why I'm still getting an error message. Any ideas?

• MVC Partial View to Call Display Pop-up window using jquery

  Hi I have a index page the renders objects from my database as a treeview, each item has a link href="/MessageGroupType/Edit/1002 that makes an Ajax call to display a partial view in a DIV. Within the partial view there is a delete button which calls my controller to delete the item. However, i do a check to make sure the item can be deleted, if the item cant be deleted then i wish a pop-up to appear back on the edit form telling the user they cant delete this record. In my Edit partial view i have the following code " type="text/javascript" $(function() { $("#dialog").dialog(); }); <% if (Boolean.Parse(ViewData["DisplayWindow"].ToString())){% This Mesage group Type Cannot be deleted as is linked to other message group Types <% }% So my main questions are Can i make a reference to a javascript script within my Partial View (i dont want my master page to be called on the partial view) When i dynamically load the partial view data into my DIV - can i then after calling my controller insert another DIV into the first DIV. I am i doing this the wrong way - so any pointers is appreciated Cheers
