• Flex 3 - Issues with textArea "editable" property

  Hello Community! I'm having issues with the property "editable" of textArea control. I have a component: OrderView.mxml and it's associated data class OrderViewData.as. Orderview.mxml is inside a viewStack to enable navigation from a component to another. In this particular case, OrderView.mxml is called by another component: SearchResult.mxml. I can thus navigate from SearchResult.mxml to OrderView.mxml, and back to SearchResult.mxml... OrderView.mxml has textArea and textInput control, that have to be editable or nonEditable depending on the property var isEditable:Boolean from OrderViewData.as. When the application is launched, isEditable = true. So, all textInput and textArea controls are editable the first time the user gets to OrderView.mxml. When the user clicks on the button order from OrderView.mxml, isEditable = false. When the user goes back to SearchResult.mxml, isEditable = true (again) -- Until here, everything works fine. The thing is: when the user goes back to OrderView.mxml for the second time (and beyond), even if the property isEditable = true, textArea controls are still non editable... But the textInput controls are editable! • Search implementation dilemma: full text vs. plain SQL

  I have a MySQL/Rails app that needs search. Here's some info about the data: Users search within their own data only, so searches are narrowed down by user_id to begin with. Each user will have up to about five thousand records (they accumulate over time). I wrote out a typical user's records to a text file. The file size is 2.9 MB. Search has to cover two columns: title and body. title is a varchar(255) column. body is column type text. This will be lightly used. If I average a few searches per second that would be surprising. It's running an a 500 MB CentOS 5 VPS machine. I don't want relevance ranking or any kind of fuzziness. Searches should be for exact strings and reliably return all records containing the string. Simple date order -- newest to oldest. I'm using the InnoDB table type. I'm looking at plain SQL search (through the searchlogic gem) or full text search using Sphinx and the Thinking Sphinx gem. Sphinx is very fast and Thinking Sphinx is cool, but it adds complexity, a daemon to maintain, cron jobs to maintain the index. Can I get away with plain SQL search for a small scale app?

• Random Pairings that don't Repeat

  This little project / problem came out of left field for me. Hoping someone can help me here. I have some rough ideas but I am sure (or at least I hope) a simple, fairly efficient solution exists. Thanks in advance.... pseudo code is fine. I generally work in .NET / C# if that sheds any light on your solution. Given: A pool of n individuals that will be meeting on a regular basis. I need to form pairs that have not previously meet. The pool of individuals will slowly change over time. For the purposes of pairing, (A & B) and (B & A) constitute the same pair. The history of previous pairings is maintained. For the purpose of the problem, assume an even number of individuals. For each meeting (collection of pairs) and individual will only pair up once. Is there an algorithm that will allow us to form these pairs? Ideally something better than just ordering the pairs in a random order, generating pairings and then checking against the history of previous pairings. In general, randomness within the pairing is ok.

• Overriding deep functions in javascript

  I'm quite new to javascript but have undertaken a task to get better aquainted with it. However, I am running into some problems with jQuery. The following javascript is the code that is in a third party jQuery plugin and I would love to be able to override the funFunction() function here to do my own implementation. Is this possible, if so, how can I do it? I've been doing a fair amount of searching and have tried a number of methods for overriding the function using things like: jQuery.blah.funFunction = funtion() { alert("like this"); }; Main code: (function($) { $.extend( { blah: new function() { this.construct = = function(settings) { //Construct... stuff }; function funFunction() { //Function I want to override } } }); })(jQuery); For those further interested I am trying to override tablesorter so that the only way a user can sort a column is in ascending order only. Edit: There is a wordpress installation that uses WP-Table-Reloaded which in turn uses this plugin. I don't want to change the core code for this plugin because if there was ever an update I would then have to make sure that my predecessor knew exactly what I had done. I've been programming for a long time and feel like I should easily be able to pick up javascript whilst also looking at jQuery. I know exactly what I need to do for this, just not how I can override this function.

• Why does presentModalViewController not always work?

  My application requires data from a server in order to run. The first thing it does is displays a view controller (LoadingViewController) that is responsible for checking if the data is saved to my PersistentStoreCoordinator. If the data isn't cached locally, it gets it from my server and caches it, and posts a notification that the LoadingViewController is listening for. When that notification comes through, LoadingViewController presents the application's MainViewController using the presentModalViewController with a flip animation. So far, so good... no errors. However, if the application loads and determines the data IS cached - the presentModalViewController does not work and the main application view never appears. No errors. I've even gone as far as adding a button to the Loading view that executes the same code when pressed and the damn thing works. I'm suspicious it has something to do with the timing of it all but I'm clueless as to what I can do to ensure the view is displayed with that flipping animation if the data is already cached locally. Any suggestions?

  Hi, My app. is started from both the commandline and by using an JNLP file. Im running java version 1.6.0_14 First i had the problem that i created the Buffered input and output streams in incorrect order. Found the solution here at StackOverflow . So starting from the commandline works fine now. But when starting the app using Webstart, it ends here java.io.EOFException at java.io.ObjectInputStream$PeekInputStream.readFully(Unknown Source) at java.io.ObjectInputStream$BlockDataInputStream.readShort(Unknown Source) at java.io.ObjectInputStream.readStreamHeader(Unknown Source) at java.io.ObjectInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source) at <..>remoting.thinclient.RemoteSocketChannel.<init>(RemoteSocketChannel.java:76) I found some posts regarding similar problems; at ibm.com - identifies cookies problem at bugs.sun.com - identifies problem as solved in 6u10(b12)? The first suggests that there is a problem in Webstart with cookies. It doesn't seem to be acknowledged as a proper java bug though.. Still i am a bit lost in the solution provided regarding the cookies.(ibm link) Can anyone expand on the cookie solution? I can't find information on how the cookie is generated in the first place. • How do I represent concurrent actions in jBPM, any of which can end a process?

  An example: a permit must be examined by two lawyers and one engineer. If any of those three reject it, the process enters a "rejected" end state. If all three grant the permit, it enters a "granted" end state. All three examiners may examine simultaneously, or in any order. Once one engineer has granted it, it shouldn't be available to be examined by an engineer; once two lawyers have examined it, it shouldn't be available to lawyers; once one engineer and two lawyers have examined it should go to the granted end state. My initial thinking is that either I have a overly complicated state transition diagram, with "the same" intermediate states multiply repeated, or I carry (external) state with the process { bool rejected; int engineerSignoffId; int lawyer1SignoffId; int lawyer2SignoffId}. Or something like this? If so, how does the engineer's rejection terminate the subprocess that is in "Lawyers"? START->FORK->Engineer->Granted?---------------->Y->JOIN-->Granted |->Lawyers-->Granted?->by 2 lawyers?->Y---^ ^ | |--------------------------N What's the canonical jBPM answer to this? • Algorithm To Select Most Popular Places from Database

  We have a website that contains a database of places. For each place our users are able to take one of the follow actions which we record: VIEW - View it's profile RATING - Rate it on a scale of 1-5 stars REVIEW - Review it COMPLETED - Mark that they've been there WISH LIST - Mark that they want to go there FAVORITE - Mark that it's one of their favorites In our database table of places each place contains a count of the number of times each action above was taken as well as the average rating given by users. views ratings avg_rating completed wishlist favorite What we want to be able to do is generate lists of the top places using the above information. Ideally, we would want to be able to generate this list using a relatively simple SQL query without needing to do any legwork to calculate additional fields or stack rank places against one another. That being said, since we only have about 50,000 places we could run a nightly cron job to calculate some fields such as rankings on different categories if it would make a meaningful difference in the overall results of our top places. I'd appreciate if you could make some suggestions on how we should think about bubbling the best places to the top, which criteria we should weight more heavily, and given that information - suggest what the MySQL query would need to look like in order to select the top 10 places. One thing to note is that at this time we are less concerned with the recency of a place being popular - meaning that looking at the aggregate information is fine and that more recent data doesn't need to be weighted more heavily.   Greetings all, I'm looking for a more efficient way to grab multiple users without too much code redundancy. I would much rather select all users in a single SQL statement. The problem is that I have probably a dozen or so methods for getting arrays of users, so all of these would now need to know the names of the database columns which is repeating a lot of structure that could always change later. What are some other ways that I could approach this problem? My goals include efficiency, flexibility, scalability, and good design practice.

In fact the query above give one hit from 28000 records. In OCL it is easy to list all instances: ScaniaEdiSolMessage.allinstances Also easy to filter rows by select for example: ScaniaEdiSolMessage.allinstances->select(shipFromFinland and not invalidated) But I do not understand how I should make a OCL to match the SQL above.

• cgi.FieldStorage always empty - never returns POSTed form Data

  This problem is probably embarrassingly simple. I'm trying to give python a spin. I thought a good way to start doing that would be to create a simple cgi script to process some form data and do some magic. My python script is executed properly by apache using mod_python, and will print out whatever I want it to print out. My only problem is that cgi.FieldStorage() is always empty. I've tried using both POST and GET.   I have a small problem maintain a count for the position. i have written a function function that will select all the users within a page and positions them in the order. Eg: Mike Position 1 Steve Postion 2.............. .... Jacob Position 30 but the problem that i have when i move to the second page, the count is started from first Eg: Jenny should be number 31 but the list goes, Jenny Position 1 Tanya Position 2....... • Rhino ServiceBus: Sagas with multiple messages

  I have a saga that can handle multiple messages like so: public class OrderSaga : ISaga<Order> , InitiatedBy<StartOrderSaga> , Orchestrates<CancelOrder> , Orchestrates<PaymentForOrderReceived> , Orchestrates<CheckOrderWasPaid> , Orchestrates<OrderAbandoned> , Orchestrates<CheckOrderHasBeenShipped> , Orchestrates<OrderShipped> , Orchestrates<CheckOrderHasDelayDuringShipment> , Orchestrates<OrderArrivedAtDestination> , Orchestrates<OrderCompleted> {...} but only Orchestrates<CancelOrder seems to be picked up. So I suppose (I did not find the line, but am under a strong impression this is so), that only the first Orchestrates is registered. Probably this is by design. From what I imagined a saga to be, it seems only logical that it receives many different messages, but I might be wrong. I might be wrong with my whole assumption, too :) How am I supposed to handle this? Are Sagas supposed to only handle one (in my case) a ChangeStateMessage<State or should I wire the other ConsumerOfs/Orchestrates by hand?

  Hi, I'm trying to edit my sidebar.php file in my current them WP is using to display the last # of posts (only the titles) as links. I tried using the example of http://codex.wordpress.org/Integrating_WordPress_with_Your_Website but I always get the error on the line that states where the file wp-blog-header can be found. the error when opening the index blog page where the sidebar should be shown: // Get the last 3 posts. Warning: require(/blog/folder/wp-blog-header.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /blog/folder/wp-content/themes/default/sidebar.php on line 7 So what is wrong?   It is well-known that monoids are stunningly ubiquitous in programing. They are so ubiquitous and so useful that I, as a 'hobby project', am working on a system that is completely based on their properties (distributed data aggregation). To make the system useful I need useful monoids :) I already know of these: Numeric or matrix sum Numeric or matrix product Minimum or maximum under a total order with a top or bottom element (more generally, join or meet in a bounded lattice, or even more generally, product or coproduct in a category) Set union Map union where conflicting values are joined using a monoid Intersection of subsets of a finite set (or just set intersection if we speak about semigroups) Intersection of maps with a bounded key domain (same here) Merge of sorted sequences, perhaps with joining key-equal values in a different monoid/semigroup Bounded merge of sorted lists (same as above, but we take the top N of the result) Cartesian product of two monoids or semigroups List concatenation Endomorphism composition. Now, let us define a quasi-property of an operation as a property that holds up to an equivalence relation. For example, list concatenation is quasi-commutative if we consider lists of equal length or with identical contents up to permutation to be equivalent. • VEMap and a GeoRSS feed(hosted separately)

  The scenario is as follows: A WCF web service exists that outputs a valid GeoRSS feed. This lives in its own domain as a number of different applications have access to it. A web page(on a different site) has been created with an instance of a VEMap(Bing/Virtual Earth map object). Now, VEMap can accept an input feed in this format via the following: var layer = new VEShapeLayer(); var veLayerSpec = new VEShapeSourceSpecification(VEDataType.GeoRSS, "someurl", layer); map.ImportShapeLayerData(veLayerSpec, onComplete, true); onComplete is a callback function I'm using to replace the default pin graphic with something custom. The question is in regards to "someurl", which is a path to a local xml file containing the geographic information(georss simple format). I've realized this feed and the map must be hosted in the same domain, so I've created a generic handler that reads the remote feed and returns it in the same format. var veLayerSpec = new VEShapeSourceSpecification(VEDataType.GeoRSS, "/somelocalhandler.ashx", layer); When I do this, I get the VEMap error("z is null"). This is the same error one would receive when trying to access a remote feed. When I copy the feed into a local xml file(ie, "feed.xml") there is no error. The order of operations is currently: remote feed - local handler - VEMap import If I'm over complicating this procedure, let me know! I'm a bit new to the Bing Maps API and might have missed something. Any assistance is appreciated.

• Ajax UpdatePanels scroll on partial page update.

  I set the AutoPostback property of a textbox to True so I can process the TextChanged event on the server and, based on what they typed in the textbox, appropriately display a message in an update panel. The problem is, when the partial screen refresh is performed, no control on the screen has focus. 99% of the time, when the text in the textbox is changed, it is because the user has tabbed forward, and so, to limit the disruption in the lost of focus, I perform a "Focus" call on teh next control in the tab sequence. For the most part, this works OK, but of course, is disputive if the user is tabbing in the reverse order or has used the mouse to set the focus to another control. In these situations, the focus would be set to the next control even though the user was trying to set focus elsewhere. OK, that sucks. Now what I consider the bigger problem with calling the focus method on the server: In IE, it works OK, but in Mozilla Firefox and Chrome, setting the focus causes a repositioning of the scroll bar, even though none is necessary because the control is already in view. I realize that I could switch to doing AJAX web service calls, but these darn Updae Panels are so convenient if used in moderation. is there anyway to use updatepanels and not have these focus/scroll issues?

• Quickest algorithm for finding sets with high intersection

  I have a large number of user IDs (integers), potentially millions. These users all belong to various groups (sets of integers), such that there are on the order of 10 million groups. To simplify my example and get to the essence of it, let's assume that all groups contain 20 user IDs (i.e., all integer sets have a cardinality of 100). I want to find all pairs of integer sets that have an intersection of 15 or greater. Should I compare every pair of sets? (If I keep a data structure that maps userIDs to set membership, this would not be necessary.) What is the quickest way to do this? That is, what should my underlying data structure be for representing the integer sets? Sorted sets, unsorted---can hashing somehow help? And what algorithm should I use to compute set intersection)? I prefer answers that relate C/C++ (especially STL), but also any more general, algorithmic insights are welcome. Update Also, note that I will be running this in parallel in a shared memory environment, so ideas that cleanly extend to a parallel solution are preferred.

• LINQDataSource and private columns

  Hey, I was trying to use a ListView bound to a LinqDataSource to insert to a table where I had a few columns private to the table class (Specifically password columns - only access I want to give outside the class is methods that generate the salt and encrypt the password to store it in 1 go). I gave this a few shots, but I didn't come up with anything I really liked... was wondering if anyone has a better way to do this. The methods I've found: Use the LinqDataSource inserting event and make the appropriate calls on e.NewObject. I don't really like this because it's so far removed from the actual input and there's no simple way to hold the password in the meantime other than a class variable set during the ListView's inserting event (Which works, but seems a little dodgy). Open up these properties and just ask everyone to use the appropriate static methods for encoding the passwords they pass in. I don't really like this cause I'd prefer that class to enforce data integrity rather than relying on all calling code doing it properly... I'm currently going with option #1, but I don't really like passing values between events using class variables like that (It just seems unstructured... even though I can guarantee the events will happen in the right order). Does anyone know a better way, or alternatively am I being too pedantic and one of the methods above is actually the right way to go? Thanks

• How can I set the size of the gap between inline elements in CSS?

  I am creating an MVC 1.0 form to use in multiple views. I have some elements that need to be shown on the same line, and I have done this by setting the display to "display: inline" for the style. I have also added the margin-left setting to the CSS in order to force the gap between the inline elements but this doesn't appear to be being set. My CSS has: fieldset label.inline { display: inline; margin-left: 2em; } The view code is: <fieldset> <legend>Details</legend> <p> <label for="StartTime">Start Time:</label> <%= Html.TextBox("StartTime", Model.StartTime.ToShortTimeString())%> <label for="NextDay" class="inline">Next Day?</label> <%= Html.CheckBox("NextDay") %> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("StartTime", "*")%> </p> </fieldset> Setting the size in the "margin-left" style has no impact on the space between the StartTime control and the NextDay label. How can I create this gap between the elements?

• VS2010 express beta2 - no add reference dialog, no open file/project dialogs

  Just installed VS2010 express for Windows Phone last night. Install went smoothly. It creates a project, compiles, and deploys the app to the emulator. Here's the problem: When I try to "Add Reference" through the Project menu, I do not get the Add Reference dialog box. Same thing if I right click References in the solution explorer and click Add Reference. That's not all. "File...Open" and "File...Open Project" also fail to throw up an open file dialog box. When attempting any of these actions, the IDE quickly loses and regains focus. Even pressing a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+O) causes the IDE to quickly lose and regain focus, but no open file dialog box appears. This is what I have tried, not particularly in this order: 1. Turned off UAC 2. Monitored file and registry access using Process Monitor during a File...Open operation. File activity showed mostly "SUCCESS" with a few "FAST IO DISALLOWED" and a few "INVALID DEVICE REQUEST" results. Registry activity showed mostly "SUCCESS" with some "NAME NOT FOUND" and a few "BUFFER OVERFLOW" results. 3. Created a new, clean Windows account to run the IDE from 4. Forced a test project to add a reference to "System.Xml.Linq" by editing the ".csproj" project file. Project failed to load in the IDE. I don't have these problems at all on 2 other Windows 7 computers with VS2010 C# express beta 2 installed. One machine is 32bit and the other 64bit, both Home Premium edition. My system: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit Other Visual Studio products installed: VS2008 C# express, VS2008 C++ express One other thing to note: Several months ago I installed the non-phone distribution of VS2010 C# express beta 2, and I had the same exact problems. Back then I chalked it up to being beta and went back to VS2008 C# express, where I do not have these issues.
