  • Use synergy with Physical KVM

    - by Mr. Man
I am using synergy on a Linux Mint computer as the server with a Mac as the client. I also have a physical KVM switch. The problem I have is that when ever I switch the physical KVM to my Mac, synergy stops working as in the keyboard and mouse don't work with the Mac. Thanks in advance! EDIT: here are some logs: From the Mint machine: INFO: synergys.cpp,1042: Synergy server 1.3.1 on Linux 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:04:26 UTC 2009 i686 DEBUG: synergys.cpp,1051: opening configuration synergy.conf DEBUG: synergys.cpp,1062: configuration read successfully DEBUG: CXWindowsScreen.cpp,847: XOpenDisplay(:0.0) DEBUG: CXWindowsScreenSaver.cpp,339: xscreensaver window: 0x00000000 DEBUG: CXWindowsScreen.cpp,117: screen shape: 0,0 1024x768 DEBUG: CXWindowsScreen.cpp,118: window is 0x03800004 DEBUG: CScreen.cpp,38: opened display DEBUG: CXWindowsScreen.cpp,679: registered hotkey F12 (id=efc9 mask=0000) as id=1 NOTE: synergys.cpp,500: started server INFO: CServer.cpp,1141: screen ubuntu shape changed NOTE: CClientListener.cpp,127: accepted client connection DEBUG: CClientProxy1_0.cpp,404: received client marks-mac.local info shape=-1024,0 2304x800 NOTE: CServer.cpp,278: client mac has connected INFO: CServer.cpp,447: switch from ubuntu to mac at -1024,393 INFO: CScreen.cpp,116: leaving screen DEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cDEBUG: CXWinavDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cDEBUG302)DEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cDE47DEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cDEBUG: CXWindowsrset=utf-8 (633), text/plain (462) DEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added fDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added f DEBUG: CXWindCXWDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added fDEBUG:SerDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: ed DEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added fDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555owsClDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: 1DEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added fDEBUG: getDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added f DEBUG: CXW8_STDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added fDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added fD textDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added fDEBU DEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added fDEBUG: CXWindowsClipinDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555:oardDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added fDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added fDEBUG: CXWindCXWDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added fDEBUG:SerDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: ed DEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: added fDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555owsClDEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp,555: 1DEBUG: CXWindowsClipboard.cpp, s From the Mac: connecting to '192.168.3.5': 192.168.3.5:24800 connected to server entering screen leaving screen entering screen leaving screen stopped client

  • Recommend software: File checksum calculator

    - by Johnny W
Hi, I'm looking for a light, fast hash/checksum calculator (eg. MD5, SHA1, etc.). I've been using HashCalc and it works fine enough, but I was wondering if there was something better. When downloading .ISOs from MS BizSpark, I've found that it's essential to check the SHA1, and I'm sure that other people have found the same... So what's the defacto, light, fast, simple app that does the job? :) Thanks for any recommendations.

  • Where can I find a full distribution of FAR Manager (plugins bundle)?

    - by Sorin Sbarnea
FAR Manager is a very powerful open-source file manager for Windows. Most of its qualities are coming from the plugins but the official distribution is missing them. I'm looking for an updated bundle that should contain the most important FAR Manager plugins: WinSCP - SCP/FTP file transfer Colorer - syntax highlighting 7-Zip - support to archive in Zip and 7-Zip and unarchive almost any format Picture View 2 - View pictures using F3, no external viewer needed. ConEMU - for additional console support including resize support.

  • Rotate a table in word

    - by Jake Pearson
I have a word 2007 document in portrait mode. I have a table that is too wide to fit in 8.5" but would fit in 11". Is there a way to make just one page landscape? Or alternately is there a way to rotate a table 90 degrees?

  • Returning row values based on conditional formatting variables

    - by Mike Bodes
I'm not entirely sure how to properly explain this, but here we go... I'm trying to create a single budgeting document that allows me to manage purchasing and reconciliation for multiple projects. I would like to create separate sheets per project and have purchased items populate on a master sheet. Using conditional formatting, I've set one of the columns to display an item's status (waiting for approval, approved, ordered, received). I would like the contents of an entire row to populate in a new sheet table once the status is set to "Received." The sheet should update descendingly. I can't attach an image because I don't have a 10 reputation.. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • How to fix network connection dead on startup, but okay after disable/enable?

    - by bill weaver
on Startup When my system starts up, the internet connection is dead. This causes various problems with startup items such as updates and auto-start programs failing. However, the connection is fine after going into Network and Sharing, Change adapter settings, then disabling and re-enabling the adapter. Any suggestions on why this is happening and how to fix it? System summary: Windows 7, 64 bit, Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, Linksys WRT610N router, Sci Atlanta cable modem.

  • Gmail page works but won't stop loading

    - by MLW
When I open the GMail page in Chrome (9.0.597.102) on OS X (10.6.4), the page works fine and is functional, but it often remains in a "Loading" state, with the loading icon active, for extremely long periods of time. Functionally, there is no problem, since everything is accessible, and the problem is intermittent. Sometimes it immediately completes loading, other times it will claim to be "loading" for hours. My date is correct (as set with time.*.apple.com), and I don't have any Google Labs enabled. Does anyone else have this problem, or know the cause and solution?

  • Breaking the Outlook 2010 e-mail blue quote line for inline responses

    - by Jez
This has to be the most infuriating regression from Outlook 2003 to 2007. It also exists the same in Outlook 2010, as far as I can tell. When you reply to an HTML e-mail message in Outlook, the quoted text has a blue line down the side, and is usually at the bottom of the message: Now in Outlook 2003, when replying to HTML-formatted messages in Outlook, you used to be able to reply inline quite easily, by getting to the point in the quoted message you wanted to reply to, and pressing the 'decrease indent' button: Since Outlook 2007 (and 2010), they replaced the e-mail editor with Microsoft Word. This means the blue line is implemented in a different way; it uses a blue left border. This makes it tougher to break the line up. After much ado, I found a couple of pages that said that you could remove all formatting by pressing ctrl-Q, which would remove the blue line next to the cursor and allow inline replies: OK, not too bad on the face of it. I can live with that. But here's the kick in the teeth; try sending that mail. I'll send it to myself. What do I receive? This: Outlook 2010 reinstated the blue line, where I had removed it, upon my sending the e-mail! For God's sake! The two pages I linked to above don't seem to address Outlook's reinstating of the blue line upon sending. So, does anyone know how you can actually reply inline in Outlook 2010 (or Outlook 2007) e-mail without the blue line being reinstated? Before anyone says, I do not want to convert the message to plaintext, and I do not want to just indent replies and have to manually build the blue line myself. I want something like the Outlook 2003 behaviour; I reply, Outlook creates the blue line, and I can break it up with inline replies, send it, and my inline formatting stays. My hopes aren't high - Microsoft seem to have gone to some trouble to actively prevent inline replies here, for some reason - but I'd appreciate anyone's insights. Cheers!

  • Trojan Horse Generic.15.apnz Virus Impossible to get rid of?!

    - by DaveDev
Hi Guys I'm new to this forum so I'm unsure whether this is the right place for a question like this. I have a Trojan Horse infection that lives in memory and seems to be impossible to get rid of. I've tried a vew AntiVirus products (Norton, Windows Essentials & AVG Free) all to no avail & I've recently tried a few bootable antivirus solutions I found here: http://www.techmixer.com/free-bootable-antivirus-rescue-cds-download-list/ Kaspersky Rescue Disk 2008 (failed - it wouldn't even load the UI, is there a newer one out there?) F Secure Rescue Disk (Updates & Scanner ran, found 10 infections, said it was going to delete or repair them, but didn't get rid of them) Avira found a load of infections but it froze when I tried to interact with the UI after the scan. Every time I run these I'll load Windows after & run AVG, and it still finds Trojan Horse Generic.15.apnz (in Services.exe) & Trojan Horse Generic.16.ARSU (in svchost.exe) Is anyone familiar with a virus like this? Can anyone suggest how to approach a solution? Thanks Dave

  • Staying anonymous while hosting your site?

    - by jamesCroft
I don't mean anonymous surfing. I mean hosting and having your own domain and such. The reason is that my blog is about religious/political topics which may cause me trouble in the future. This is the domain I am working on: www.james-croft.com I know that using Whois search my name can come up: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/james-croft.com The solution to that, as far as I understood, is to buy a privacy package from the domain registrar. in my case it is lucky register: http://i.stack.imgur.com/uvOdc.png Also hosting is a concern. I use the same hosting service for multiple websites. My question is this: Can my hosting be tracked and be used to identify me? Also: Are there other methods of finding out my identity from either Google Adsense or Amazon affiliate programs? I couldn't find any relevant articles online. If there is anything else that is relevant, please let me know. I appreciate any response.

my centos environment has just become bash shell prompt: -bash-3.2# how do I change it back to the usual # prompt? what places should I check for possibly modifications? I would like to switch back to that. for example, ll is not longer supported in this bash shell

  • Convert DVD to a flash application (including menus)

    - by balint
I was wondering if it is possible to convert a dvd to a flash application which I could then embed in a website. What I am looking for is not simply ripping the video, but something that encodes the menus and the navigation of the dvd, as well, and the result is an interactive flash application. Thanks! Edit: actually I have the original iDVD project, as well. I would like to turn it into a flash application...

Hi, I'm trying to access my OSX (snow leopard) machine from my Windows 7 machine. Both machines are within my local network I don't need outside access. I'm using Vine Server (OSXvnc) for OSX and TightVNC Viewer for Windows, but TightVNC keeps telling me that the host is unreachable. Any idea what could be wrong? how could I troubleshoot this kind of issue? Appreciate your help.

  • Can I use a SD card as cache instead of a Solid State Drive

    - by user654628
I just installed a solid state drive a few days ago and I have been reading about how to preserve the file of it. I am running Windows 8 and my SSD has 256G of storage. I am using a laptop and cannot carry an external hard drive connected to my laptop to hold cache, temp files etc. I was wondering if a SD card would work. So I would use the SD card to hold cache, temp files and maybe index files from Windows, would this work and be effective (since I believe sd cards will also wear out)?

  • Using Cisco VPN in Windows 7 XP Mode?

    - by Shane
I previously asked a question about whether it was possible to use Cisco VPN client on Windows 7 64-bit (see below). Now that I have it set up, it doesn't work when I try to connect off the local network. I realize that there must be some networking/routing that I need to do since it's running on a virtual machine. How does one go about using the Cisco VPN client from XP mode in Windows 7? Related: Cisco VPN Client on Windows 7 64-bit?

  • Htpc aka "Media Center": cheap and *silent*?

    - by Unknown
It may be me, or the place I live (Italy), but it seems pretty hard to get a build or a prebuilt nettop or a laptop that fits the need. I need something silent able to playback all h.264 fullhd content without stuttering, and well (and not loosing the hw acceleration because of softsubs...) silent not ugly silent and (possibly) cheap. I'm going the linux route, therefore i'm moving towards a cpu-based or nvida-integrated solution (i don't think ati hw accelerated playback - or the intel "hd" acceleration - is useable yet). Ion nettop; it's either the Acer Revo (but here it's incredibly pricey and it's hard to find the dualcore version) or the Asrock Ion 330, that in the current version is rated "silent" at 26Db. 26. Sounds pretty noisy to me!!! the previous version was even worse. was this product really aimed at htpc market?? the Dell Zino - i think it's ATI based unfortunately. Laptop: correct me if I'm wrong: sub 600€/$ units are quite loud under full load (because of the tiny fans). ULW laptops are indeed quite similar: tiniest fans = high pitched noise and the cpu still lacks power for non hd-accelerated video decoding Handmade build: little money can be saved with underpowered cpus, a low-midrange cpu would help in the case of non-hw-accelerated content the cases are quite pricey the PSU one has to get ranges between 100/150 €/$ minimum to keep the noise down a low-mid build, all included, sums up to over 650 €/$ for a still-looking-ugly-unit, without the blu-ray drive. Please help. What do you advise on this? ;) Am I ignoring laptops too much, maybe? Are low-priced Acers that noisy/high pitched under full load?

  • ATI gpu (video accel, decode, encode, ATI Stream, DXVA)

    - by Shiki
Okay its a long question title for sure. I'm looking for a new video card (yes,SU is not a page for that, but wait). I've been a loyal NVidia customer ever since, now using a 8600gts. Old but still somewhat good, its a bit slow though. I want an upgrade because 8600gts wont support better vdpau and new features. I checked out the prices and the documents, I would need a GTX260 card. Which costs ..well.. a lot. ATI performs much better for that price. (At least on every test it outperforms GTX260). However, as far as I know there is no gpu accel with ATI. The things you can use is DXVA only, no other method. Could you correct me out there? Will be there a gpu accel for ATI also? Or is there one available? (DXVA is not bad, but kinda slow compared to NVIdia's CUDA.) What about openCL? How does ATI support that? (I'm talking about the 5850 ATI card at the minute, I would buy that instead of the NVidia.)

  • Windows 8 recimg createimage fails with 0x80070002, why?

    - by ezuk
Running Win8 x64. C is an SSD with lots of free space (200GB). I run: recimg /createimage C:\CustomRefreshImages\Img121105 Output says: Source OS location: C: Recovery image path: C:\CustomRefreshImages\Img121105\CustomRefresh.wim Creating recovery image. Press [ESC] to cancel. Initializing The recovery image cannot be written. Error Code - 0x80070002 The paths specified in the command line are created, and I'm running this in an elevated command prompt, so it's not a permissions issue. I've googled this but could only find worthless results, including a particularly entertaining one where the "solution" included instructions for creating a screenshot (press PrtScreen). Any help would be most appreciated.

Even if audio is perfectly working fine for me (Skype, Banshee, etc), when I try to configure audio for Wine (to use Spotify) I cannot hear anything from the audio test. In the winecfg audio tab, ALSA is checked, but no devices are available. I tried to run alsaconf (it needs root permissions) but it returns: No supported PnP or PCI card found No legacy drivers available, either. Any idea?

  • Learning Linux screencasts

    - by Dmitriy Nagirnyak
Hi, I am trying to get started with Linux. There are number of books (many of which are just man pages), some of them provide good overview so I can dig deeper online then. What I would like is to find number of screencasts that would cover basics of Linux commands, server administration, commonly performed tasks etc (no GUI, only terminal). I want to watch the screencasts to "get it quicker" and then use a book or online resources to "dig it deeper". Any recommendations? Thanks, Dmitriy.
