  • Varnish + Plesk : vhost broken

    I have an e-commerce site with 300,000 products and 20,000 categories. It is slow and currently in production. I decided to install Varnish to speed up. The trouble is that during installation, I got a Guru Meditation. Since the site is in production, I am not allowed to leave this error more than a second, thinking to have made an enormous stupidity. I followed the following tutorial: http://www.euperia.com/linux/setting-up-varnish-with-apache-tutorial I'm sure I followed all without error. I say that there may be a specific configuration with plesk. Has anyone already installed Varnish on a ubuntu 11.04 server with plesk 10? Does anyone have a better resource? I know it is "very vague" as an error, but maybe some of you have had this problem. edit 24/11/2011 I continued to work on Varnish + Plesk ... but it still does not work. 1) I changed the port for apache in plesk General # mysql -uadmin -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` -D psa -e'replace into misc (param, val) values ("http_port", 8008)' 1.1) I rebuild the server conf # /usr/local/psa/admin/bin/httpdmng --reconfigure-all 2) I changed the apache conf files (if those were not taking full plesk top) vim /etc/apache2/ports.conf NameVirtualHost *:8008 Listen 8008 2.1) I do the same with /etc/apache2/sites-enables/000-default 3) I changed the port of my vhost (a single server) vim /var/www/vhosts/MYDOMAIN.COM/conf/XXXXXXXXX.http.include Replace the port 80 by this I want. Rebuild the vhost conf /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/websrvmng --reconfigure-vhost --vhost-name=<domain_name> with without www (See my issue in serverfault: Edit vhost port in plesk 10.3 ) 4) I installed varnish by following this tutorial : http://www.euperia.com/linux/setting-up-varnish-with-apache-tutorial 5) I restart apache 2 + varnish service apache2 restart service varnish restart When I go to my site, I come across a page of apache It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet. Can somebody help me ? This means that my vhost does not point to the right place. Why? What to do? How?

I need a system (this can easily be 1 program or several): Need to be able to... play mp3's from my library (just a directory structure with mp3's). Save radio station's, and easily remove/add new stations play random mp3's which are not part of my library and will probably be deleted in the future, yet won't clutter my library index!

  • Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Dual monitor works only sometimes (ATI multi-desktop)

    I've been using my laptop with an external LCD monitor attached to it at work (Philips 201E). And at home with a different external monitor (Samsung 2032BW). I have an ATI graphics card (HD3450), with Ati Catalyst drivers enabled and I'm using the Single display desktop (Multi-Desktop) seeting. At work I have the external monitor on the left and laptop on the right, while at home the other way around. So when I switch between the two setups, I just needed to go to Ati Catalyst Control Center, change the order of the displays, change the resolution (Home - 1680x1050, Work - 1440x900), reboot and it was all fine. But since a while it doesn't work properly anymore: At home it still works fine. At work it doesn't work. Sometimes it works for some reason, after a few resolution/setting changes in ACCC and reboots... it's very strange and annoying. With the home monitor I can see the whole bootup process on both monitors (laptop + LCD) and it always just works fine. With the work monitor on the external LCD monitor I just see "No video input" until I get to the login screen, then it shows up there as well. But after login it will either: Flicker a few times, but then work OK. Or (more often) Flicker once and then go back to "No video input" again. I usually end up rebooting a few times until it works. Does anyone have any idea for fixing it?   • When and why would Windows Explorer lock an external hard disk?

    I am quite surprised to see that Windows Explorer is locking my external hard disk. Is there any reason why explorer.exe is holding on to my external hard disk? Before I was trying to detach the external hard disk, I was opening a csproj file using Visual Studio 2008. I made sure that I closed down Visual Studio before trying to detach the external hard disk. There was no other active program except Google Chrome, from what I could see, that was running.

  • Hide Spotify from Windows 7 Task Bar

    When Spotify is running, it shows a little icon in the activity field. On most operative systems, closing the Spotify window minimizes the player to the activity window, freeing up space in the task bar - but not in Windows 7, it seems. I think it's a little uneccessary to have two icons in almost the same place that does almost the same thing. Is there anyway to hide a program icon from the task bar, in this case specifically Spotify?

I tried all the default password/users combinations wasadmin/wasadmin wasadmin/wsadmin and so on an none of the works. How do I recover my password/username? Thank you very much.

    I have Ubuntu Linux 8.04 LTS with Firefox 3.6.3. Unfortunately it is super easy to accidentally click Add To Dictionary on a word you do not want added into one's personal dictionary used in Firefox. How do I remove the word 'intsead' out of it? I tried some tutorials on the web that said to find ~/.mozilla/*.default/persdict.dat, but I could not see one. As well, others have complained that this file no longer exists in Firefox 3.

    Hi, I'm trying to set multiple web sites up in an IIS 6. I've got a working virtual site residing under the default web site, but if I create a new web site in the IIS and asign it a host header value, let it point to the very same file structure as in the prevoiusly mentioned site and finally asign windows integrated security only to the site - I still cannot log in to the new site using MSIE 6 or 8 but FF 3.5 works fine.     My .htaccess on Rackspace looks like this: AuthType Basic AuthName "Restricted Area" AuthUserFile /path-to-htdocs/.htpasswd Require valid-user Now I would expect this to password protect the whole directory, however, it only protects files with .php extension! What is wrong with it? Is it something in the default http.conf that I cannot override? The path used to .htpasswd is correct as it accepts the user/passwd in the case of .php

    I have a Solaris 10 server on another network. I can ping it and telnet to it, but ssh doesn't connect.   • Windows Authentication with IIS7 with public facing website

    By default in IIS7, Windows Authentication was turned off and I had to make a configuration change to activate it. When I did that there was a description for Windows Authentication that explained this should only be used for intranet sites, not public facing websites. When you consider NTLM/Kerberos does not use plain text I am not sure why Microsoft have decided this, all of a sudden. Can anybody explain?

    In outlook 2010 I am unable to show the number of messages within a particular group. For example, I categorise my messages and then when I sort by category, there is no way to show the number of messages within that(those) category(ies). Previous versions of outlook would do this by default, but I am not finding the setting to do this in Outlook 2010. If it isn't possible, is there anything method to count those messages within a group/category easily?

    I need to run the SFTP fileserver binary as root, but direct root login is not allowed. In WinSCP, if I use "default" on SFTP server protocol option everything works as expected. Following the instructions to sudo in WinSCP, I tried using "sudo /usr/sbin/proftpd" (works on the command line without any prompts) but it brings up "Cannot initialize SFTP protocol. I found a lot of help on mapping keys to programs, but nothing about mapping keys to mouse control.

  • Where can I buy a good rackmount workstation?

    We have a product which consists of a GUI program and all the hardware goes in a rack. Our department bought a rackmount server for the first unit, but I dont think this is adequate for applications that use graphics (correct me if I'm wrong - we bought a Dell R710). Could you tell me of a good rackmount workstation we could buy for our product? Also, would it be risky for us to build our own rackmount?
