Learning Python coming from PHP

Community wiki so don't vote to close, kthxbai. My dynamic language experience is solely PHP. I want to learn Python now to broaden my career opportunities and just because I like programming. :) When learning Java, I used a site (lost the URL/real name now), something like "Java for PHP developers" that had all on one side of the page the PHP code, and on the other side the Java code to do the same thing. Is there a website like that for Python? Any other recommendations/advice? Thanks Edit: I have no votes left today, but I'll up-vote good answers tomorrow :)

cross-domain data with AJAX using JSONP

I'm trying to get data from Geobytes. One of the templates returns JSON and I need to cross-domain access it. where do i put html files in my web-app folder for a lift project with maven?

I'm new to Lift framework for scala. For some reason, index.html resides in the web-app directory, and when I start up jetty, http://localhost:8080/ will point to that index.html file just fine. However, if I put a login.html file in the same folder as the index.html, and then go http://localhost:8080/login, Lift does not serve the file. Where do I need to put the files to get them register? I am a little lost because the behaviour only seems to work for index.html and nothing else. Best way to store data for Greasemonkey based crawler?

I want to crawl a site with Greasemonkey and wonder if there is a better way to temporarily store values than with GM_setValue. What I want to do is crawl my contacts in a social network and extract the Twitter URLs from their profile pages. My current plan is to open each profile in it's own tab, so that it looks more like a normal browsing person (ie css, scrits and images will be loaded by the browser). Then store the Twitter URL with GM_setValue. Once all profile pages have been crawled, create a page using the stored values. I am not so happy with the storage option, though. Maybe there is a better way? I have considered inserting the user profiles into the current page so that I could all process them with the same script instance, but I am not sure if XMLHttpRequest looks indistignuishable from normal user initiated requests.

Is the use of a proxy required to consume a WCF service?

I have a WCF Service that I want my client to be able to consume from IIS without going through a proxy. The client was consuming asmx service in vbscript using the htc behavior: <div id="oWSInterop" style="behavior:url(webservice.htc)"></div> oWSInterop.useService "http://localhost/WSInteroperability.asmx", "WSInteroperability" Set response = oWSInterop.WSInteroperability.callServiceSync("BuildSingleDoc", 1002, 19499, XMLEncode(sAdditionalDetail)) So basically I just want to make this work with making as few changes as possible on the existing client. Am I forced to use a proxy when consuming a WCF service? I do understand the benefits of a proxy and am not opposed to using it for most other client implementations, but in this case I'm not sure I have the time to deal with it on the client - i just want it to work the way it has been with only the endpoint changing.

Flex 4: Defining a XML data model in an Actionscript Class

What is the cheapest non-colocation way to serve about 10 static files at a rate of 100 megabits per

I've looked at Amazon S3 and it costs roughly $4746 per month for 100 megabits/s (which translates into 31,640 Gigabytes of data transferred. That's at a rate of $0.15 per gig.) I haven't found a cheaper "cloud" option. I'm curious if there's any other cloud hosting option out there cheaper than S3. Uptime is not an issue because I can build failover for most things into the browser. e.g. I can use javascript to say "if the image didn't load then go to this other URL instead." FYI I'm currently using a colocation facility which is about 30% cheaper than S3 and I'm familiar with colo prices - so this question is really about "cloud" services and by that I mean services where I don't have to worry about the infrastructure.

Create SOAP message from WSDL using axiom

Hi, I'm a starting a project which consist in sending a request to a web-service (which is already available) and parsing the response. I have the WSDL and URL endpoints. Does anyone have a startup tutorial on how to build something from there? I would like to use Axis2 + Axiom to send the service request and receive and process the response. I'm using eclipse as dev env. I've been search for a tut on how to do this but with no success. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

I have a BHO in c++ and i need to block some keyboard controls (Ctrl-o) in a i-frame.

I need to know of a way to prevent the user to 'open a new url' (with Ctrl-o) as soon as he has the focus on my sidebar (right-sided iframe). In fact, my sidebar offers some controls and the user should not be able to 'navigate' to other website through the sidebar. I'm using a bho in C++ using ATL(active template library), but maybe if anyone knows of a simplier way like in JS(javascript) or PHP(Hypertext Preprocessor) ? Any ideas is appreciated. How to display the rss version of a News Link

I'm trying to write a script that will show the rss version of a single url (title, author, image, source, etc..). This should behave much the way that facebook does when you copy paste a link to share and it generates this information automatically. I'm trying to do this with a php script but would also be open to opensource programs that can do this as well. also, if anyone knows of any Joomla/Drupal plugins that can do this that would be great. This may eventually end up on a site run on one of these frameworks. thanks!!

Using type hints in Clojure for Java return values

I'm working on some Java / Clojure interoperability and came across a reflection warning for the following code: (defn load-image [resource-name] (javax.imageio.ImageIO/read (.getResource (class javax.imageio.ImageIO) resource-name))) => Reflection warning, clojure/repl.clj:37 - reference to field read can't be resolved. I'm surprised at this because getResource always returns a URL and I would therefore expect the compiler to use the appropriate static method in javax.imageio.ImageIO/read. The code works fine BTW so it is clearly finding the right method at run time. So two questions: Why is this returning a reflection warning? What type hint do I need to fix this?

I'm trying to paginate the results of a "advanced search", I have a complex model that represents the search options; int ZipCode int MinAge int MaxAge Availability bool Monday bool Tuesday ... bool Friday Requirements bool FirstAid bool DriversLicense I'm using; <%: Html.ActionLink("Next »", "Save", "Notification", Model.options)%> Which correctly sends all the data at the first level, but anything that is a sub-object (Availability or requirements) isn't expanded in the URL, all I get is the class name and so I lose most of the search options when I click the link to change to a different page. Any thoughts?

PUT parameters not working in python / google app engine

Loading form values from one IFrame to another

A search is made from one IFrame "the form is loaded into this frame via the src atribute of iframe" the search query is then passed to another IFrame that redirects to a url with the query eg. www.test.com/index.php?query=test Is this possible? Reading value of cookie using curl in php

Hello, Im using Firefox 3.5.9. When i visit a url , it sets a cookie on my computer.I can see this cookie in Firefox by going to Tools-Options-Privacy,then clicking on 'Remove Individual Cookies'. There is a folder called xyz,which contains a cookie named JSessionId and which has some Content value . If i use curl in my php code to navigate to that website,is there a way i can read the Content value of that cookie programmatically ? . Some sample code would be really appreciated. Thank You

Obtaining the server IP address in WCF?

How can I obtain the server IP address that was used to connect to a service? The server has multiple IP addresses and I need to know which one the client is connected to. So far I only found that OperationContext.Current.EndpointDispatcher.EndpointAddress and OperationContext.Current.Channel.LocalAddress contain the address from .config (e.g. localhost) OperationContext.Current.IncomingMessageProperties.Via contains the Url that the client used to connect to the server (but this might just be a name from the clients hosts file). EDIT - Sorry, I wasn't being clear enough: The server needs to know which of its IP addresses were used by the client. E.g. the server has the addresses 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2. when processing the request the server service needs to know if 10.0.0.1 or 10.0.0.2 was used by the client to connect to it.

Restricting Directory access from web application context

i have a web application which stores users file in directory which is under webroot directory.. Suppose web application is under 'fileupload' and all files are getting stored in 'xyz' folder under 'fileupload' so now if user points to url say like www.xyzpqr.com/fileupload/xyz/abc.doc, he gets that file. How do i restirct this from happening.. i have thought of putting xyz folder in WeB-inf folder but as my application is very big i have to made changes at too many places.. so is there any way so that without moving the folder to web-inf (restricted folders) i can achieve wat i want..

Hello, I'm looking for a solution that allows me to get the parent page pathname from a partialView invoked. For example I have an Action baa and a controller boo so the javascript to obtain this will be window.location.pathname, and it returns /boo/baa. The thing is that I use a partial view, so when I try to retrieve the pathname via the URL helper, what I obtain is the PartialView one, and what I need is the pathname for the action that invokes it. I want to do this because I want to show certain things of the partial view depending on the pathname of the parent view that invokes it. Is there a way to do this with ASP.NET MVC? Using javascript to call controller methond in mvc

Im trying to make a table row work as a link to another view in my mvc website. Instead of using the standard "Details" link provided by the auto generated table list, I would like to use the table row as a link to the "Details" view instead. So somehow I need to make the row work as a link. Each rom has a unique id that I need to pass on to the controller method. I have tried different solutions but noting happens when I press on the table row... .htaccess not working in subfolder

Hello, I have a couple of sites that are currently under development and I've put them under a specific subfolder for clients/co-workers to view - "http://dev.staffanestberg.com/site-name/". I've run into some problems getting the sites working with .htaccess. I can reach the index page by typing in the url for a site folder but neither img/style/js/etc linking or page rewriting works. Looking for a solution to this, Apache's "RewriteBase" seems to be the most likely one, however I can't get it to work. Tried RewriteBase http://dev.staffanestberg.com/site-name/ RewriteBase /site-name What would be the correct method? Thanks in advance, -Staffan

facebook graph api..get friends of friends

I am using the FB graph api to get a list of my friends' friends using: https://graph.facebook.com/<id>/friends?access_token=<token> Now the weird thing is that this works for some of my friends and does not work for some others. Could somebody tell me why this is happening and a possible fix? In cases where it does not work, I get the following message: "Can't lookup all friends of YYYYYY. Can only lookup for the logged in user (XXXXX), or friends of the logged in user with the appropriate permission" And I repeat, I AM ABLE to get friend lists of some of my friends using the above URL. What permissions are being mentioned here?

Slickgrid, confirm before edit

I am making a slick grid and need the ability to add rows with a code column. For this to be possible the code column needs to be editable for the entire table. I am trying to work out a way that I can confirm the edit with a standard javascript confirm popup box. I tried putting one into the onedit event within the slickgrid constructor and that executed after the edit. I am led to believe that the edit function is independent from calling the edit stored procedure of the database. Is there a better way to go about this? IE6 background appears-disappears on scrolling

Hi, Given IE6, an UL-LI list and a background image for the UL container. <style> ul {background-image: url(images/bgr.png);} </style> ... <ul> <li>...</li> ... </ul> When I load the page, the background is randomly loaded, some parts are visible, some are not. Moreover, it changes on runtime when I'm scrolling on the page. When I scroll out the UL list and scroll back, different parts of the background will be visible, depends on the speed of scrolling. Do you have any idea? Thanks in advance.
