• apache2 server returns (400) syntax error

  There are 900 paths in the googles index to our homepage containing illegal characters. Example: http://www.seriesam.com/filmaffisch/TC%4NK Note the character "%4N". I have no idea where they come from, but would like to update google index with a correct URL using "canonical" in the html code. But the problem is our apache2 server immediately sends a 400 error if you click the link above. How can I configure apache2 not to give an error code, but instead treat the link above as "correct"? Maybe replacing the char %4N with nothing.

• Will duplicate international (i18n) content hinder SEO rankings?

  Google clearly states that duplicate content within a single, or multiple, domains is not advised. This is understood, but I am not sure of any exceptions for sites with region-specific content that is often replicated across locales. For example, a site's /en-us/about page could be identical to /en-uk/about, whereas most likely /en-ja/about is unique. Are GYM smart enough to understand that the initial URL depth is a locale specifier? Is there any robots.txt or header, etc, trickery that I should include to outline the site's international structure?

Order of HTML meta tags I'm new to websites in general (which is why I'm starting on blogger) and am just curious as to which tags I should be using in my posts? My posts generally include a title relevant to the keyword of my blog, an image, a video, my content, and a link to my twitter. I don't really use any tags and someone mentioned that they may help for SEO. So I figured I would ask for some advice from people who know what they are doing.   When deciding on a technology to use for web apps, it's become a difficult choice between GWT and Dart and I am looking for guidance in deciding. GWT is a java programmer's dream because they don't have to learn a new language or have to worry about a separate IDE or extra plugin etc. GWT was sold using this value proposition - one didn't need to program in Javascript. But are Google making a U-turn and saying "go through the hassle of learning a new language" afterall? Or is it intended for there to be a Java to Dart compiler so that Java developers do not have to learn a new language? (this is not a rant, so I don't know why you are down-voting the question) Note: "the syntax is very similar" is not a justification. You could say why bother with GWT and just work with Java + Javascript directly.

• When do one give up on programming challenges to look at the solutions?

  Recently, I have been trying to learn programming and improve my ability in writing method level code through practices on websites such as Codingbat.com However in the recent weeks I have been stuck for weeks at the last 2-3 questions of String-2/Array-2 and early String/Array-3 problems. It feels really tempting for me to give up and google online for the solutions, but I'm afraid that by doing so I may end up not improving my ability at all. I wonder if this is common and when faced with such situations how long do 1 wait before giving up to look at the solutions or to continue spending more weeks on trying to solve the problems by yourself? How do 1 really engage in effective deliberate practice to improve programming ability and attain the necessary problem solving techniques? Any formal techniques available to tackle the never seen before problems?

  I made a website which stayed online for 6 months. During that period the search results for the site were not at all good. Even typing the domain name yielded just two or three category result. Now, I have taken the site down for total redevelopment and redesign. The aim of this question is to know the basics for SEO to be done while redesigning the site. My site will be in ASP.NET MVC 3 and will have main categories, sub categories and sub-sub if any. Then there will be products in those categories. All the data will come from MSSQL DB. Please tell me just the basics required for a dynamic website during development. I want to ensure that google and other engines index all the pages of my site including products or whatever.

Some examples can be http://www.addgoogleurl.com/ and webdirectorieslist.com, etc. I was talking with my colleague and he says, adding the URL of my website to these kind of websites will negate the effect of other organic real links. • What is supposed to happen when you install Gmail webapp?

  I have installed Gmail (and other Google as well) webapps into Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit. After that I rebooted the system hoping that webapps will integrate into the system. But after logging back to the system, I see no changes. If I click on email envelope (top bar), I don't see my inbox. Also if I try to search email in Dash via gmail keyword, nothing happens as well. Am I using this wrongly or webapps don't work? What was supposed to happen when I install webapps? Note: I did start the Gmail app from Dash and logged in

Unfortunately the practice sometimes breaks down and becomes ineffective. • How to fix Bluetooth Sound in Ubuntu 11.10

  Bluetooth sound worked perfectly for me in Ubuntu 10.04. I recently upgraded to 11.10, and although sound in general works fine, Bluetooth sound almost never works. My headset is paired, and Sound Settings shows it's selected as the output device, but no sound is being output. I've tested the headset with other devices, and confirmed it still works, so the issue is definitely with 11.10. I'm not seeing any explicit errors and I can't find any similar issues with 11.10 through Google. I tried restarting the bluetooth service, but that had no effect. What can I do to fix this?

I want to work in companies that are open, innovative, and make a good contribution to the world of computer science. For example, Dropbox looks like a very fun company and its existence is very important. How do I spot this in job advertisements? EDIT: I should note that I live in Australia, so many of the fun companies that I know does not have any office here. I know only a handful of fun companies in Australia – including Google in Sydney.   Authentication is such a general problem, which most websites have to implement. There are a few commercial solutions, but all lack sufficient functionality to customize the registration process. Therefore, I am looking for an open-source alternative. I am using PHP and with PostgreSQL as database, but as far as I understand one could utilize authentication solutions using other technologies and integrate them into our site in various ways. Therefore, I am looking for such solutions in any technology apart from those requiring Microsoft infrastructure... I would prefer Open Source solution, which have already implemented the following features: Has password recovery procedure Username is the email address of the user Has "Remember me" functionailty (meaning that the user is logged in automatically without seeing the login page) email address verification Google has gotten me nowhere on this and neither a search on this site...

• Screen Scaling Problem

  I think this is what it's called but I'm not quite sure tbf, aha. Yeah, so I updated packages last night like I do every night, and when I booted my computer this morning I had a problem whereby the display ran over the edge of the screen. This has been a problem for a while, but I rectified it by changing a setting on the nVidia program, however I think it has been updated to remove said feature as I can't find it anymore. I have no settings on my screen to adjust this either, so I'm sorta stuck without the ~20px around the contour of my screen. It is a problem at all available resolutions.   Say for example I have a website that has finished BETA and is ready for full launch. I'm at the stage now I want it to be very visible to start getting traffic. Right now, I am just getting some random search engine hits, word of mouth and a few referrals. How do I break out of this and really get some serious traffic to my site? Do I need to launch a huge ad-campaign? If so, what is the best/most cost effective way to do this? I have tried google adwords but at $0.45+ a click this jsut isn't practical for what I have.

  Hi. Currently I have ethernet and wireless networks configured through a network manager (further NM) but it seems to be a bit buggy (I need a different MAC for ether which is never applied if using NM), so I would like to move all the network configs to interfaces file. I know (or can google for) configuration code, but I'm not sure how NM works and it looks like it overrides interface config. Please advice, how I can handle this issue. NOTE: I also would like to be able to locate and connect to various wireless networks but not sure how to do it.

• SUN Java and GPL V2 licence issue for linked applications

  I have recently noticed that the Sun Java code has been released as GPL V2 code (see Google code repo). Does that mean that all applications written in Java and linked to Sun APIs (beans, and so on) are also in GPL ? If we strictly follow the GPL then this should be the case (Libs should be in LGPL, not GPL if we want to build proprietary software on top of it). Is there another commercial licence which can avoid such an issue ? I cannot believe this is the case. There must be an explanation on this. Regards, Apple92
