• Look of the app - Py2exe / wxPython

  So my problem is the look and feel from my application, as it looks like an old look app. It is an wxPython application, and on python it runs fine and looks fine, but when I convert it to .exe using py2exe, the look is just bad. Now I know that if you are using XP you need some manifest to correct it but I am in other circumstances. I'm using Windows 7, and I'm using Python 2.6 (Yes, I am including the DLL's and the Microsoft.VC90.CRT.manifest). So my question is how can I solve this under these circumstances? NOTE: I tried to search on google, but the posts I found were rather old with people using XP and older python versions so I assumed it would be different? • speed up a sql query to mysql?

  in my mysql database i've got the geonames database, containing all countries, states and cities. i am using this to create a cascading menu so the user could select where he is from: country - state - county - city. but the main problem is that the query will search through all the 7 millions rows in that table each time i want to get the list of children rows, and that is taking a while 10-15 seconds. i wonder how i could speed this up: caching? table views? reorganizing table structure somehow? and most important, how do i do these things? are there good tutorials you could link to me? i appreciate all help and feedback discussing smart ways of handling this issue!

  Hi, I want to create some kind of AJAX script or call that continuously will check a MySQL database if any new messages has arrived. When there is a new message in the database, the AJAX script should invoke a kind of alert box or message box. I’m not quite a AJAX expert (yet anyway) and have Googled around to find a solution but I’m having a hard time to figure out where to begin. I imagine that it is kind of the same method that an AJAX chat is using to see if any new chat-message has been send. I’ve also tried to search for AJAX (httpxmlrequest) call in a continuously and infinity loop but still haven’t got a solution yet. I hope there is someone, which can help me with such a AJAX script or maybe nudge me in the right direction. Thanks Sincerely Mestika

  I have a lot of embedded C/C++/Ada experience and an outdated smattering of Delphi plus some database stuff. Now I have to implement an app in Delphi which can manipulate MySql, Oracle, maybe MS Acess. In short, I need ODBC. I need to programatically created a database, define its structure and populate its contents, then later query its existence and programatically search. I would prefer not to use 3rd party components, unless there is a compelling reason to do so (performance ought not to be an issue for the app, it won't have much data or be run often, at least not in v1.0) . Can anyone point me at a tutorial which can get me up to speed? Thanks

• Graph Algorithm To Find All Paths Between N Arbitrary Vertices

  I have an graph with the following attributes: Undirected Not weighted Each vertex has a minimum of 2 and maximum of 6 edges connected to it. Vertex count will be < 100 I'm looking for paths between a random subset of the vertices (at least 2). The paths should simple paths that only go through any vertex once. My end goal is to have a set of routes so that you can start at one of the subset vertices and reach any of the other subset vertices. Its not necessary to pass through all the subset nodes when following a route. All of the algorithms I've found (Dijkstra,Depth first search etc.) seem to be dealing with paths between two vertices and shortest paths. Is there a known algorithm that will give me all the paths (I suppose these are subgraphs) that connect these subset of vertices?

  I'm trying to submit a form on an .asp page but Mechanize does not recognize the name of the control. The form code is: <form id="form1" name="frmSearchQuick" method="post"> .... <input type="button" name="btSearchTop" value="SEARCH" class="buttonctl" onClick="uf_Browse('dledir_search_quick.asp');" > My code is as follows: br = mechanize.Browser() br.open(BASE_URL) br.select_form(name='frmSearchQuick') resp = br.click(name='btSearchTop') I've also tried the last line as: resp = br.submit(name='btSearchTop') The error I get is: raise ControlNotFoundError("no control matching "+description) ControlNotFoundError: no control matching name 'btSearchTop', kind 'clickable' If I print br I get this: IgnoreControl(btSearchTop=) But I don't see that anywhere in the HTML. Any advice on how to submit this form?

  Hi, For some reason, I want to serve my robots.txt via a PHP script. I have setup apache so that the robots.txt file request (infact all file requests) come to a single PHP script. The code I am using to render robots.txt is: echo "User-agent: wget\n"; echo "Disallow: /\n"; However, it is not processing the newlines. How to server robots.txt correctly, so search engines (or any client) see it properly? Do I have to send some special headers for txt files? EDIT: Now I have the following code: header("Content-Type: text/plain"); echo "User-agent: wget\n"; echo "Disallow: /\n"; which still does not display newlines (see http://sarcastic-quotes.com/robots.txt ). I'm looking to make a final decision on our mocking framework of choice moving forward as a best practice - I've decided on Moq... untill I just recently discovered MS has finally created a mocking framework called Moles which seems to work similar to TypeMock via the profiler API sexyness etc.. There's a million 'NMock vs Moq vs TypeMock vs Rhino....' threads on here. But I never see Moles involved.In fact, I did not even know if its existence until a short time ago. Anyone using it? In Production? Anyone dump their old mocking framework for it, and if so, which one? How did it compare to ther mocking frameworks you've used? thanks.. ps, we are using VS2008 and are moving to 2010 shortly.

I read somewhere that threads using native thread module in 2.6 dont make use of multiple cores. is that true? However once the deletion has taken place I want to be able to refresh the list to show that it has taken place, currently nothing happens, until I manually refresh.

• Advanced Array Sorting in Ruby

  I'm currently working on a project in ruby, and I hit a wall on how I should proceed. In the project I'm using Dir.glob to search a directory and all of its subdirectories for certain file types and placing them into an arrays. The type of files I'm working with all have the same file name and are differentiated by their extensions. For example, txt_files = Dir.glob("**/*.txt") doc_files = Dir.glob("**/*.doc") rtf_files = Dir.glob("**/*.rtf") Would return something similar to, FILECON.txt ASSORTED.txt FIRST.txt FILECON.doc ASSORTED.doc FIRST.doc FILECON.rtf ASSORTED.rtf FIRST.rtf So, the question I have is how I could break down these arrays efficiently (dealing with thousands of files) and placing all files with the same filename into an array. The new array would look like, FILECON.txt FILECON.doc FILECON.rtf ASSORTED.txt ASSORTED.doc ASSORTED.rtf etc. etc. I'm not even sure if glob would be the correct way to do this (all the files with the same file name are in the same folders). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  Hi all, I just installed gd2 using mac ports (sudo install gd2), which installed libraries in the following places: /opt/local/include/gd.h /opt/local/lib/libgd.dylib (link) /opt/local/lib/libgd.la /opt/local/lib/libgd.a So when I create my c++ app I add '#include "gd.h"', which throws: main.cpp:4:16: error: gd.h: No such file or directory If I set gd.h as an absolute path (as above)(not a solution, but was curious), I am thrown: g++ -L/opt/local/include -L/opt/local/lib main.o Heatmap_Map.o Heatmap_Point.o -o heatmap Undefined symbols: "_gdImagePng", referenced from: _main in main.o "_gdImageLine", referenced from: _main in main.o "_gdImageColorAllocate", referenced from: _main in main.o _main in main.o "_gdImageDestroy", referenced from: _main in main.o "_gdImageCreate", referenced from: _main in main.o "_gdImageJpeg", referenced from: _main in main.o ld: symbol(s) not found So, I understand this means that ld can not find the libraries it needs (hence trying to give it hints with the "-L" values). So after giving g++ the -L hints and the absolute path in #include, I can get it to work, but I don't think I have to do this, how can I make g++/ld search int eh right places for the libraries? Both of these a'int working with me. I also have given any connectTimeout to 180. So shoiuld i have to change it too. Anybody who had face this problem or have any confirm knowledge please share

  For a given SQL stored proc or function, I'm trying to obtain its input and output parameters, where applicable, in a Winforms app I'm creating to browse objects and display their parameters and other attributes. So far I've discovered the SQL system function object_definition, which takes a given sysobjects.id and returns the text of that object; also discovered via search this post which describes extracting the parameters in the context of a app using the ADO.NET method DeriveParameters in conjunction with some caching for better performance; and for good measure found some helpful system stored procs from this earlier post on Hidden Features of SQL Server. I'm leaning towards implementing the DeriveParameters method in my C# app, since parsing the output of object_definition seems messy, and I haven't found a hidden feature in that post so far that would do the trick. Is DeriveParameters applicable to both functions and stored procs for purposes of retreiving their parameters, and if so, could someone please provide an example?

  Hi, everyone! I have a problem with Google suggest API when using Chinese locale. I am picking Chinese hieroglyphs at random and use the REST API to retrieve suggestions. Unfortunately, Google always return an empty list of suggestions (I am completely sure, that I convert my request in utf-8, and it is working fine with other languages, ex. Russian): Sample request: http://suggestqueries.google.com/complete/search?qu=%E9%80%9F Google answer: window.google.ac.h(["?",[]]) Does anyone know how to retrieve suggestions for Chinese locale?   Hi, Sometimes I add an attribute to some of my controls. Like: <a href id="myLlink" isClimber="True">Chris Sharma</a> I know it is not a valid html. But it helps me in some cases. Is this considered as a bad practice? A friend of mine says that it is ok for Intranet environment but on internet it might not be find friendly by search engines. If it is not a good practice, what are the best practicess? Thanks

• Django, ModelForms, User and UserProfile - not hashing password

  I'm trying to setup a User - UserProfile relationship, display the form and save the data. When submitted, the data is saved, except the password field doesn't get hashed. Additionally, how can I remove the help_text from the username and password (inherited from the User model)? Full code is below, excuse me if it's too long. • MDX performance vs. T-SQL

  I have a database containing tables with more than 600 million records and a set of stored procedures that make complex search operations on the database. The performance of the stored procedures is so slow even with suitable indexes on the tables. The design of the database is a normal relational db design. I want to change the database design to be multidimensional and use the MDX queries instead of the traditional T-SQL queries but the question is: Is the MDX query better than the traditional T-SQL query with regard to performance? and if yes, to what extent will that improve the performance of the queries?
