    - by Shani1351

My module file structore is : app\code\local\G4R\GroupSales\Block\Adminhtml\Groupsale\ I want to add an edit form so I can view and edit each item in the grid. I followed this tutorial : http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/5_-_modules_and_development/0_-_module_development_in_magento/custom_module_with_custom_database_table#part_2_-_backend_administration but when the edit page loads, instead of the tab content I get an error : Fatal error: Call to a member function setData() on a non-object in C:\xampp\htdocs\mystore\app\code\core\Mage\Adminhtml\Block\Widget\Form\Container.php on line 129 This is my code : /app/code/local/G4R/GroupSales/Block/Adminhtml/Groupsale/Edit.php <?php class G4R_GroupSales_Block_Adminhtml_Groupsale_Edit extends Mage_Adminhtml_Block_Widget_Form_Container { public function __construct() { parent::__construct(); • actionscript3: reflect-class applied on rotationY

    - by algro
    Hi, I'm using a class which applies a visual reflection-effect to defined movieclips. I use a reflection-class from here: link to source. It works like a charm except when I apply a rotation to the movieclip. In my case the reflection is still visible but only a part of it. What am I doing wrong? How could I pass/include the rotation to the Reflection-Class ? Thanks in advance! This is how you apply the Reflection Class to your movieclip: var ref_mc:MovieClip = new MoviClip(); addChild(ref_mc); var r1:Reflect = new Reflect({mc:ref_mc, alpha:50, ratio:50,distance:0, updateTime:0,reflectionDropoff:1}); Now I apply a rotation to my movieclip: ref_mc.rotationY = 30; And Here the Reflect-Class: package com.pixelfumes.reflect{ import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.display.DisplayObject; import flash.display.BitmapData; import flash.display.Bitmap; import flash.geom.Matrix; import flash.display.GradientType; import flash.display.SpreadMethod; import flash.utils.setInterval; import flash.utils.clearInterval; public class Reflect extends MovieClip{ //Created By Ben Pritchard of Pixelfumes 2007 //Thanks to Mim, Jasper, Jason Merrill and all the others who //have contributed to the improvement of this class //static var for the version of this class private static var VERSION:String = "4.0"; • How to make radio button options dependent on other radio button choices using Mootools?

    - by Mike Crittenden
    I have a form where there are 6 items, each of which can be ranked from 1-6 in order of importance. Here's a screenshot. Basically, I need to set it up so that if one item gets a ranking of 3 (for example), then "3" becomes disabled for all the other items. Therefore, the user should only be able to select a number that hasn't already been selected for each item (so we can ensure that the items really will be ranked 1-6 and no numbers will be repeated for different items). Here's the markup I'm working with (minus the presentational divs): <label for="importantProductQuality">Product Quality</label> <input id="importantProductQuality_0" name="importantProductQuality" value="1" type="radio"> <label for="importantProductQuality_0">1</label> <input id="importantProductQuality_1" name="importantProductQuality" value="2" type="radio"> <label • Programming an Android Button to update EditText views

    - by bergler77
    Ok guys, I have a button in android that i'm trying to use to update 8 EditText Views with different random numbers. Everything works up until I click the button. It appears I am missing a resource according to the debugger, but I'm not sure what. I've tried several different ways of implementing the button. Here is what I have after looking at several posts. import java.util.Random; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.View; import android.view.View.OnClickListener; import android.widget.Button; import android.widget.EditText; public class MyCharNewChar extends MyCharActivity { private OnClickListener randomButtonListener = new OnClickListener(){ public void onClick(View v) { //Button creates a set of random numbers and updates the values //of the EditText views. Random rand = new Random(); int STR = 1 + rand.nextInt(12); int AGI = 1 + rand.nextInt(12); int DEX = 1 + rand.nextInt(12); int WIS = 1 + rand.nextInt(12); int INT = 1 + rand.nextInt(12); int CON = 1 + rand.nextInt(12); int HP = 1 + rand.nextInt(20); int AC = 1 + rand.nextInt(6); EditText str = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.str); str.setText(STR); EditText agi = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.agi); agi.setText(AGI); EditText dex = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.dex); dex.setText(DEX); EditText wis = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.wis); wis.setText(WIS); EditText intel = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.intel); intel.setText(INT); EditText con = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.con); con.setText(CON); EditText hp = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.baseHP); hp.setText(HP); EditText ac = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.baseAC); ac.setText(AC); } }; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState){ super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.newchar); Button randomButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.randomButton); randomButton.setOnClickListener(randomButtonListener); } } Here is the xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout Still the same error so I must have a problem elsewhere. Any suggestions would be great!

    please i'm having this error if any one can explain it : while using an iterator in my methode public void createDemandeP() { if (demandep.getDateDebut().after(demandep.getDateFin())) { FacesContext .getCurrentInstance() .addMessage( null, new FacesMessage(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_WARN, "Attention aux dates", "la date de debut doit être avant la date de fin!")); } else if (demandep.getDateDebut().before(demandep.getDateFin())) { List<DemandeP> list = new ArrayList<DemandeP>(); list.addAll(chaletService.getChaletBylibelle(chaletChoisi).get(0) .getListDemandesP()); Iterator<DemandeP> it = list.iterator(); DemandeP d = it.next(); while (it.hasNext()) { if ((d.getDateDebut().compareTo(demandep.getDateDebut()) == 0) || (d.getDateFin().compareTo(demandep.getDateDebut()) == 0) || (d.getDateFin().compareTo(demandep.getDateFin()) == 0) || (d.getDateDebut().compareTo(demandep.getDateDebut()) == 0) || (d.getDateDebut().before(demandep.getDateDebut()) && d .getDateFin().after(demandep.getDateFin())) || (d.getDateDebut().before(demandep.getDateFin()) && d .getDateDebut().after(demandep.getDateDebut())) || (d.getDateFin().after(demandep.getDateDebut()) && d .getDateFin().before(demandep.getDateFin()))) { FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getMessageList().clear(); FacesContext .getCurrentInstance() .addMessage( null, new FacesMessage( FacesMessage.SEVERITY_FATAL, "Periode Ou chalet indisponicle ", "Veillez choisir une autre marge de date !")); } } } else { demandep.setEtat("En traitement"); DateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy"); Date date = new Date(); try { demandep.setDateDemande(dateFormat.parse(dateFormat .format(date))); } catch (ParseException e) { System.out.println("errooor date"); e.printStackTrace(); } nameUser = auth.getName(); // System.out.println(nameUser); adherent = utilisateurService.findAdherentByNom(nameUser).get(0); demandep.setUtilisateur(adherent); // System.out.println(chaletService.getChaletBylibelle(chaletChoisi).get(0).getLibelle()); demandep.setChalet(chaletService.getChaletBylibelle(chaletChoisi) .get(0)); demandep.setNouvelleDemande(true); demandePService.ajouterDemandeP(demandep); } } oct. 23, 2013 7:19:30 PM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext reload INFO: Le rechargement du contexte [/ONICLFINAL] a démarré oct. 23, 2013 7:19:30 PM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload INFO: Waiting for 1 instance(s) to be deallocated oct. 23, 2013 7:19:31 PM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload INFO: Waiting for 1 instance(s) to be deallocated oct. 23, 2013 7:19:32 PM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload INFO: Waiting for 1 instance(s) to be deallocated oct. 23, 2013 7:19:32 PM org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext log INFO: Closing Spring root WebApplicationContext oct. 23, 2013 7:19:32 PM org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader clearReferencesJdbc SEVERE: The web application [/ONICLFINAL] registered the JDBC driver [com.mysql.jdbc.Driver] b but failed to unregister it when the web application was stopped.   • Anchor tag not centered on page after clicking

    - by jennyjune
    I am creating a website that scrolls down to different divs by the use of anchors. However, when I click on a link, that anchored div is not centered on the page. I positioned my divs absolutely but I have no idea if that is affecting it? Anyone have any clue how to get the divs centered using anchors? • iPhone SDK vs Windows Phone 7 Series SDK Challenge, Part 1: Hello World!

    In this series, I will be taking sample applications from the iPhone SDK and implementing them on Windows Phone 7 Series.  My goal is to do as much of an apples-to-apples comparison as I can.  This series will be written to not only compare and contrast how easy or difficult it is to complete tasks on either platform, how many lines of code, etc., but Id also like it to be a way for iPhone developers to either get started on Windows Phone 7 Series development, or for developers in general to learn the platform. Heres my methodology: Run the iPhone SDK app in the iPhone Simulator to get a feel for what it does and how it works, without looking at the implementation Implement the equivalent functionality on Windows Phone 7 Series using Silverlight. Compare the two implementations based on complexity, functionality, lines of code, number of files, etc. Add some functionality to the Windows Phone 7 Series app that shows off a way to make the scenario more interesting or leverages an aspect of the platform, or uses a better design pattern to implement the functionality. You can download Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone CTP here, and the Expression Blend 4 Beta here. Hello World! Of course no first post would be allowed if it didnt focus on the hello world scenario.  The iPhone SDK follows that tradition with the Your First iPhone Application walkthrough.  I will say that the developer documentation for iPhone is pretty good.  There are plenty of walkthoughs and they break things down into nicely sized steps and do a good job of bringing the user along.  As expected, this application is quite simple.  It comprises of a text box, a label, and a button.  When you push the button, the label changes to Hello plus the  word you typed into the text box.  Makes perfect sense for a starter application.  Theres not much to this but it covers a few basic elements: Laying out basic UI Handling user input Hooking up events Formatting text     So, lets get started building a similar app for Windows Phone 7 Series! Implementing the UI: UI in Silverlight (and therefore Windows Phone 7) is defined in XAML, which is a declarative XML language also used by WPF on the desktop.  For anyone thats familiar with similar types of markup, its relatively straightforward to learn, but has a lot of power in it once you get it figured out.  Well talk more about that. This UI is very simple.  When I look at this, I note a couple of things: Elements are arranged vertically They are all centered So, lets create our Application and then start with the UI.  Once you have the the VS 2010 Express for Windows Phone tool running, create a new Windows Phone Project, and call it Hello World: Once created, youll see the designer on one side and your XAML on the other: Now, we can create our UI in one of three ways: Use the designer in Visual Studio to drag and drop the components Use the designer in Expression Blend 4 to drag and drop the components Enter the XAML by hand in either of the above Well start with (1), then kind of move to (3) just for instructional value. To develop this UI in the designer: First, delete all of the markup between inside of the Grid element (LayoutRoot).  You should be left with just this XAML for your MainPage.xaml (i shortened all the xmlns declarations below for brevity): 1: <phoneNavigation:PhoneApplicationPage 2: x:Class="HelloWorld.MainPage" 3: xmlns="...[snip]" 4: FontFamily="{StaticResource PhoneFontFamilyNormal}" 5: FontSize="{StaticResource PhoneFontSizeNormal}" 6: Foreground="{StaticResource PhoneForegroundBrush}"> 7:   8: <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="{StaticResource PhoneBackgroundBrush}"> 9:   10: </Grid> 11:   12: </phoneNavigation:PhoneApplicationPage> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; }   Well be adding XAML at line 9, so thats the important part. Now, Click on the center area of the phone surface Open the Toolbox and double click StackPanel Double click TextBox Double click TextBlock Double click Button That will create the necessary UI elements but they wont be arranged quite right.  Well fix it in a second.    Heres the XAML that we end up with: 1: <StackPanel Height="100" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="10,10,0,0" Name="stackPanel1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="200"> 2: <TextBox Height="32" Name="textBox1" Text="TextBox" Width="100" /> 3: <TextBlock Height="23" Name="textBlock1" Text="TextBlock" /> 4: <Button Content="Button" Height="70" Name="button1" Width="160" /> 5: </StackPanel> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } The designer does its best at guessing what we want, but in this case we want things to be a bit simpler. So well just clean it up a bit.  We want the items to be centered and we want them to have a little bit of a margin on either side, so heres what we end up with.  Ive also made it match the values and style from the iPhone app: 1: <StackPanel Margin="10"> 2: <TextBox Name="textBox1" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Text="You" TextAlignment="Center"/> 3: <TextBlock Name="textBlock1" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Margin="0,100,0,0" Text="Hello You!" /> 4: <Button Name="button1" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Margin="0,150,0,0" Content="Hello"/> 5: </StackPanel> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } Now lets take a look at what weve done there. Line 1: We removed all of the formatting from the StackPanel, except for Margin, as thats all we need.  Since our parent element is a Grid, by default the StackPanel will be sized to fit in that space.  The Margin says that we want to reserve 10 pixels on each side of the StackPanel. Line 2: Weve set the HorizontalAlignment of the TextBox to Stretch, which says that it should fill its parents size horizontally.  We want to do this so the TextBox is always full-width.  We also set TextAlignment to Center, to center the text. Line 3: In contrast to the TextBox above, we dont care how wide the TextBlock is, just so long as it is big enough for its text.  Thatll happen automatically, so we just set its Horizontal alignment to Center.  We also set a Margin above the TextBlock of 100 pixels to bump it down a bit, per the iPhone UI. Line 4: We do the same things here as in Line 3. Heres how the UI looks in the designer: Believe it or not, were almost done! Implementing the App Logic Now, we want the TextBlock to change its text when the Button is clicked.  In the designer, double click the Button to be taken to the Event Handler for the Buttons Click event.  In that event handler, we take the Text property from the TextBox, and format it into a string, then set it into the TextBlock.  Thats it! 1: private void button1_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) 2: { 3: string name = textBox1.Text; 4:   5: // if there isn't a name set, just use "World" 6: if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(name)) 7: { 8: name = "World"; 9: } 10:   11: // set the value into the TextBlock 12: textBlock1.Text = String.Format("Hello {0}!", name); 13:   14: } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } We use the String.Format() method to handle the formatting for us.    Now all thats left is to test the app in the Windows Phone Emulator and verify it does what we think it does! And it does! Comparing against the iPhone Looking at the iPhone example, there are basically three things that you have to touch as the developer: 1) The UI in the Nib file 2) The app delegate 3) The view controller Counting lines is a bit tricky here, but to try to keep this even, Im going to only count lines of code that I could not have (or would not have) generated with the tooling.  Meaning, Im not counting XAML and Im not counting operations that happen in the Nib file with the XCode designer tool.  So in the case of the above, even though I modified the XAML, I could have done all of those operations using the visual designer tool.  And normally I would have, but the XAML is more instructive (and less steps!).  Im interested in things that I, as the developer have to figure out in code.  Im also not counting lines that just have a curly brace on them, or lines that are generated for me (e.g. method names that are generated for me when I make a connection, etc.) So, by that count, heres what I get from the code listing for the iPhone app found here: HelloWorldAppDelegate.h: 6 HelloWorldAppDelegate.m: 12 MyViewController.h: 8 MyViewController.m: 18 Which gives me a grand total of about 44 lines of code on iPhone.  I really do recommend looking at the iPhone code for a comparison to the above. Now, for the Windows Phone 7 Series application, the only code I typed was in the event handler above Main.Xaml.cs: 4 So a total of 4 lines of code on Windows Phone 7.  And more importantly, the process is just A LOT simpler.  For example, I was surprised that the User Interface Designer in XCode doesnt automatically create instance variables for me and wire them up to the corresponding elements.  I assumed I wouldnt have to write this code myself (and risk getting it wrong!).  I dont need to worry about view controllers or anything.  I just write my code.  This blog post up to this point has covered almost every aspect of this apps development in a few pages.  The iPhone tutorial has 5 top level steps with 2-3 sub sections of each. Now, its worth pointing out that the iPhone development model uses the Model View Controller (MVC) pattern, which is a very flexible and powerful pattern that enforces proper separation of concerns.  But its fairly complex and difficult to understand when you first walk up to it.  Here at Microsoft weve dabbled in MVC a bit, with frameworks like MFC on Visual C++ and with the ASP.NET MVC framework now.  Both are very powerful frameworks.  But one of the reasons weve stayed away from MVC with client UI frameworks is that its difficult to tool.  We havent seen the type of value that beats double click, write code! for the broad set of scenarios. Another thing to think about is how many of those lines of code were focused on my apps functionality?.  Or, the converse of How many lines of code were boilerplate plumbing?  In both examples, the actual number of functional code lines is similar.  I count most of them in MyViewController.m, in the changeGreeting method.  Its about 7 lines of code that do the work of taking the value from the TextBox and putting it into the label.  Versus 4 on the Windows Phone 7 side.  But, unfortunately, on iPhone I still have to write that other 37 lines of code, just to get there. 10% of the code, 1 file instead of 4, its just much simpler. Making Some Tweaks It turns out, I can actually do this application with ZERO  lines of code, if Im willing to change the spec a bit. The data binding functionality in Silverlight is incredibly powerful.  And what I can do is databind the TextBoxs value directly to the TextBlock.  Take some time looking at this XAML below.  Youll see that I have added another nested StackPanel and two more TextBlocks.  Why?  Because thats how I build that string, and the nested StackPanel will lay things out Horizontally for me, as specified by the Orientation property. 1: <StackPanel Margin="10"> 2: <TextBox Name="textBox1" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Text="You" TextAlignment="Center"/> 3: <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Margin="0,100,0,0" > 4: <TextBlock Text="Hello " /> 5: <TextBlock Name="textBlock1" Text="{Binding ElementName=textBox1, Path=Text}" /> 6: <TextBlock Text="!" /> 7: </StackPanel> 8: <Button Name="button1" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Margin="0,150,0,0" Content="Hello" Click="button1_Click" /> 9: </StackPanel> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } Now, the real action is there in the bolded TextBlock.Text property: Text="{Binding ElementName=textBox1, Path=Text}" .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } That does all the heavy lifting.  It sets up a databinding between the TextBox.Text property on textBox1 and the TextBlock.Text property on textBlock1. As I change the text of the TextBox, the label updates automatically. In fact, I dont even need the button any more, so I could get rid of that altogether.  And no button means no event handler.  No event handler means no C# code at all.  Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Maven2 - problem with pluginManagement and parent-child relationship

    - by Newtopian
    from maven documentation pluginManagement: is an element that is seen along side plugins. Plugin Management contains plugin elements in much the same way, except that rather than configuring plugin information for this particular project build, it is intended to configure project builds that inherit from this one. However, this only configures plugins that are actually referenced within the plugins element in the children. The children have every right to override pluginManagement definitions. Now : if I have this in my parent POM <build> <pluginManagement> <plugins> <plugin> <artifactId>maven-dependency-plugin</artifactId> <version>2.0</version> <executions> Some stuff for the children </execution> </executions> </plugin> </plugins> </pluginManagement> </build> and I run mvn help:effective-pom on the parent project I get what I want, namely the plugins part directly under build (the one doing the work) remains empty. Now if I do the following : <build> <pluginManagement> <plugins> <plugin> <artifactId>maven-dependency-plugin</artifactId> <version>2.0</version> <executions> Some stuff for the children </execution> </executions> </plugin> </plugins> </pluginManagement> <plugins> <plugin> <artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId> <version>2.0.2</version> <inherited>true</inherited> <configuration> <source>1.6</source> <target>1.6</target> </configuration> </plugin> </plugins> </build> mvn help:effective-pom I get again just what I want, the plugins contains just what is declared and the pluginManagement section is ignored. BUT changing with the following <build> <pluginManagement> <plugins> <plugin> <artifactId>maven-dependency-plugin</artifactId> <version>2.0</version> <executions> Some stuff for the children </execution> </executions> </plugin> </plugins> </pluginManagement> <plugins> <plugin> <artifactId>maven-dependency-plugin</artifactId> <version>2.0</version> <inherited>false</inherited> <!-- this perticular config is NOT for kids... for parent only --> <executions> some stuff for adults only </execution> </executions> </plugin> </plugins> </build> and running mvn help:effective-pom the stuff from pluginManagement section is added on top of what is declared already. as such : <build> <pluginManagement> ... </pluginManagement> <plugins> <plugin> <artifactId>maven-dependency-plugin</artifactId> <version>2.0</version> <inherited>false</inherited> <!-- this perticular config is NOT for kids... for parent only --> <executions> Some stuff for the children </execution> <executions> some stuff for adults only </execution> </executions> </plugin> </plugins> </build> Is there a way to exclude the part for children from the parent pom's section ? In effect what I want is for the pluginManagement to behave exactly as the documentation states, that is I want it to apply for children only but not for the project in which it is declared. As a corrolary, is there a way I can override the parts from the pluginManagement by declaring the plugin in the normal build section of a project ? whatever I try I get that the section is added to executions but I cannot override one that exists already. EDIT: I never did find an acceptable solution for this and as such the issue remains open. Closest solution was offered below and is currently the accepted solution for this question until something better comes up. Right now there are three ways to achieve the desired result (modulate plugin behaviour depending on where in the inheritance hierarchy the current POM is): 1 - using profiles, it will work but you must beware that profiles are not inherited, which is somewhat counter intuitive. They are (if activated) applied to the POM where declared and then this generated POM is propagated down. As such the only way to activate the profile for child POM is specifically on the command line (least I did not find another way). Property, file and other means of activation fail to activate the POM because the trigger is not in the POM where the profile is declared. 2 - (this is what I ended up doing) Declare the plugin as not inherited in the parent and re-declare (copy-paste) the tidbit in every child where it is wanted. Not ideal but it is simple and it works. 3 - Split the aggregation nature and parent nature of the parent POM. Then since the part that only applies to the parent is in a different project it is now possible to use pluginManagement as firstly intended. However this means that a new artificial project must be created that does not contribute to the end product but only serves the could system. This is clear case of conceptual bleed. Also this only applies to my specific and is hard to generalize, so I abandoned efforts to try and make this work in favor of the not-pretty but more contained cut and paste patch described in 2. If anyone coming across this question has a better solution either because of my lack of knowledge of Maven or because the tool evolved to allow this please post the solution here for future reference. Thank you all for your help :-)

  • PHP session not working with JQuery Ajax?

    - by Bolt_Head
    Update, Solved: After all this I found out that I was calling an old version of my code in the update ajax. 'boardControl.php' instead of 'boardUpdate.php' These are the kinds of mistakes that make programing fun. I'm writing a browser gomoku game. I have the ajax statement that allows the player to play a piece. $(document).ready(function() { $("td").live('click',function(){ var value = $(this).attr('id'); $.get('includes/boardControl.php',{play: value, bid: bid}); }); }); value = board square location bid = board ID Before creating a user login for player identification, the server side php had a temporary solution. It would rotate the piece state for the squares when clicked instead of knowing what player to create them for. After creating login stuff I set a session variable for the player's ID. I was hoping to read the session ID from the php during the ajax request and figure out what player they are from there. session_start(); ... $playerId = $_SESSION['char']; $Query=("SELECT p1, p2 FROM board WHERE bid=$bid"); $Result=mysql_query($Query); $p1 = mysql_result($Result,0,"p1"); $p2 = mysql_result($Result,0,"p2"); $newPiece = 0; //*default no player if($playerId == $p1) $newPiece = 1; if($playerId == $p2) $newPiece = 2; For some reason when I run the full web app, the pieces still cycle though, even after I deleted the code to make them cycle. Furthermore, after logging in If i manually load the php page in the browser, it modifies the database correctly (where it only plays pieces belonging to that player) and outputs the correct results. It seems to me that the session is not being carried over when used with Ajax. Yet Google searches tell me that, sessions do work with Ajax. Update: I'm trying to provide more information. Logging in works correctly. My ID is recognized and I printed it out next to the board to ensure that I was retrieving it correctly. The ajax request does update the board. The values passed are correct and confirmed with firebug's console. However instead of placing pieces only for the player they belong to it cycles though the piece states (0,1,2). When manually browsing to boardUpdate.php and putting in the same values sent from the Ajax the results seen in the echo'ed response indicates that the corresponding piece is played each time as intended. Same results on my laptop after fresh load of firefox. Manually browsing to boardUpdate.php without logging in before hand leave the board unchanged (as intended when no user is found in the session). I've double checked the that session_start() is on the php files and double checked the session ID variables. Hope this extra information helps, i'm running out of ideas what to tell you. Should I load up the full code? Update 2: After checking the Ajax responce in fire-bug I realized that the 'play' request does not get a result, and the board is not updated till the next 'update'. I'm still looking into this but I'll post it here for you guys too. boardUpdate.php Notable places are: Refresh Board(line6) Place Piece(line20) function boardUpdate($turnCount) (line63) <?php session_start(); require '../../omok/dbConnect.php'; //*** Refresh Board *** if(isset($_GET['update'])) { $bid = $_GET['bid']; $Query=("SELECT turn FROM board WHERE bid=$bid"); $Result=mysql_query($Query); $turnCount=mysql_result($Result,0,"turn"); if($_GET['turnCount'] < $turnCount) //** Turn increased { boardUpdate($turnCount); } } //*** Place Piece *** if(isset($_GET['play'])) // turn order? player detect? { $squareID = $_GET['play']; $bid = $_GET['bid']; $Query=("SELECT turn, boardstate FROM board WHERE bid=$bid"); $Result=mysql_query($Query); $turnCount=mysql_result($Result,0,"turn"); $boardState=mysql_result($Result,0,"boardstate"); $turnCount++; $playerId = $_SESSION['char']; $Query=("SELECT p1, p2 FROM board WHERE bid=$bid"); $Result=mysql_query($Query); $p1 = mysql_result($Result,0,"p1"); $p2 = mysql_result($Result,0,"p2"); $newPiece = 0; //*default no player if($playerId == $p1) $newPiece = 1; if($playerId == $p2) $newPiece = 2; // if($newPiece != 0) // { $oldPiece = getBoardSpot($squareID, $bid); $oldLetter = $boardState{floor($squareID/3)}; $slot = $squareID%3; //***function updateCode($old, $new, $current, $slot)*** $newLetter = updateCode($oldPiece, $newPiece, $oldLetter, $slot); $newLetter = value2Letter($newLetter); $newBoard = substr_replace($boardState, $newLetter, floor($squareID/3), 1); //** Update Query for boardstate & turn $Query=("UPDATE board SET boardState = '$newBoard', turn = '$turnCount' WHERE bid = '$bid'"); mysql_query($Query); // } boardUpdate($turnCount); } function boardUpdate($turnCount) { $json = '{"turnCount":"'.$turnCount.'",'; //** turnCount ** $bid = $_GET['bid']; $Query=("SELECT boardstate FROM board WHERE bid='$bid'"); $Result=mysql_query($Query); $Board=mysql_result($Result,0,"boardstate"); $json.= '"boardState":"'.$Board.'"'; //** boardState ** $json.= '}'; echo $json; } function letter2Value($input) { if(ord($input) >= 48 && ord($input) <= 57) return ord($input) - 48; else return ord($input) - 87; } function value2Letter($input) { if($input >= 10) return chr($input += 87); else return chr($input += 48); } //*** UPDATE CODE *** updates an letter with a new peice change and returns result letter. //***** $old : peice value before update //***** $new : peice value after update //***** $current : letterValue of code before update. //***** $slot : which of the 3 sqaures the change needs to take place in. function updateCode($old, $new, $current, $slot) { if($slot == 0) {// echo $current,"+((",$new,"-",$old,")*9)"; return letter2Value($current)+(($new-$old)*9); } else if($slot == 1) {// echo $current,"+((",$new,"-",$old,")*3)"; return letter2Value($current)+(($new-$old)*3); } else //slot == 2 {// echo $current,"+((",$new,"-",$old,")"; return letter2Value($current)+($new-$old); } }//updateCode() //**** GETBOARDSPOT *** Returns the peice value at defined location on the board. //****** 0 is first sqaure increment +1 in reading order (0-254). function getBoardSpot($squareID, $bid) { $Query=("SELECT boardstate FROM board WHERE bid='$bid'"); $Result=mysql_query($Query); $Board=mysql_result($Result,0,"boardstate"); if($squareID %3 == 2) //**3rd spot** { if( letter2Value($Board{floor($squareID/3)} ) % 3 == 0) return 0; else if( letter2Value($Board{floor($squareID/3)} ) % 3 == 1) return 1; else return 2; } else if($squareID %3 == 0) //**1st spot** { if(letter2Value($Board{floor($squareID/3)} ) <= 8) return 0; else if(letter2Value($Board{floor($squareID/3)} ) >= 18) return 2; else return 1; } else //**2nd spot** { return floor(letter2Value($Board{floor($squareID/3)}))/3%3; } }//end getBoardSpot() ?> Please help, I'd be glad to provide more information if needed. • Generic Aggregation of C++ Objects by Attribute When Attribute Name is Unknown at Runtime

    - by stretch
    I'm currently implementing a system with a number of class's representing objects such as client, business, product etc. Standard business logic. As one might expect each class has a number of standard attributes. I have a long list of essentially identical requirements such as: the ability to retrieve all business' whose industry is manufacturing. the ability to retrieve all clients based in London Class business has attribute sector and client has attribute location. Clearly this a relational problem and in pseudo SQL would look something like: SELECT ALL business in business' WHERE sector == manufacturing Unfortunately plugging into a DB is not an option. What I want to do is have a single generic aggregation function whose signature would take the form: vector<generic> genericAggregation(class, attribute, value); Where class is the class of object I want to aggregate, attribute and value being the class attribute and value of interest. In my example I've put vector as return type, but this wouldn't work. Probably better to declare a vector of relevant class type and pass it as an argument. But this isn't the main problem. How can I accept arguments in string form for class, attribute and value and then map these in a generic object aggregation function? Since it's rude not to post code, below is a dummy program which creates a bunch of objects of imaginatively named classes. Included is a specific aggregation function which returns a vector of B objects whose A object is equal to an id specified at the command line e.g. .. $ ./aggregations 5 which returns all B's whose A objects 'i' attribute is equal to 5. See below: #include <iostream> #include <cstring> #include <sstream> #include <vector> using namespace std; //First imaginativly names dummy class class A { private: int i; double d; string s; public: A(){} A(int i, double d, string s) { this->i = i; this->d = d; this->s = s; } ~A(){} int getInt() {return i;} double getDouble() {return d;} string getString() {return s;} }; //second imaginativly named dummy class class B { private: int i; double d; string s; A *a; public: B(int i, double d, string s, A *a) { this->i = i; this->d = d; this->s = s; this->a = a; } ~B(){} int getInt() {return i;} double getDouble() {return d;} string getString() {return s;} A* getA() {return a;} }; //Containers for dummy class objects vector<A> a_vec (10); vector<B> b_vec;//100 //Util function, not important.. string int2string(int number) { stringstream ss; ss << number; return ss.str(); } //Example function that returns a new vector containing on B objects //whose A object i attribute is equal to 'id' vector<B> getBbyA(int id) { vector<B> result; for(int i = 0; i < b_vec.size(); i++) { if(b_vec.at(i).getA()->getInt() == id) { result.push_back(b_vec.at(i)); } } return result; } int main(int argc, char** argv) { //Create some A's and B's, each B has an A... //Each of the 10 A's are associated with 10 B's. for(int i = 0; i < 10; ++i) { A a(i, (double)i, int2string(i)); a_vec.at(i) = a; for(int j = 0; j < 10; j++) { B b((i * 10) + j, (double)j, int2string(i), &a_vec.at(i)); b_vec.push_back(b); } } //Got some objects so lets do some aggregation //Call example aggregation function to return all B objects //whose A object has i attribute equal to argv[1] vector<B> result = getBbyA(atoi(argv[1])); //If some B's were found print them, else don't... if(result.size() != 0) { for(int i = 0; i < result.size(); i++) { cout << result.at(i).getInt() << " " << result.at(i).getA()->getInt() << endl; } } else { cout << "No B's had A's with attribute i equal to " << argv[1] << endl; } return 0; } Compile with: g++ -o aggregations aggregations.cpp If you wish :) Instead of implementing a separate aggregation function (i.e. getBbyA() in the example) I'd like to have a single generic aggregation function which accounts for all possible class attribute pairs such that all aggregation requirements are met.. and in the event additional attributes are added later, or additional aggregation requirements, these will automatically be accounted for. So there's a few issues here but the main one I'm seeking insight into is how to map a runtime argument to a class attribute. I hope I've provided enough detail to adequately describe what I'm trying to do...

    I have the following code: #include "Student.h" #include "SortedList.h" using namespace std; int main() { // points to the sorted list object SortedList *list = new SortedList; //This is line 17 // array to hold 100 student objects Student create[100]; int num = 100000; // holds different ID numbers // fills an array with 100 students of various ID numbers for (Student &x : create) { x = new Student(num); num += 100; } // insert all students into the sorted list for (Student &x : create) list->insert(&x); delete list; return 0; } And I keep getting the compile time error: main.cpp: In function ‘int main()’: main.cpp:17: error: ‘SortedList’ was not declared in this scope main.cpp:17: error: ‘list’ was not declared in this scope main.cpp:17: error: expected type-specifier before ‘SortedList’ main.cpp:17: error: expected `;' before ‘SortedList’ main.cpp:20: error: ‘Student’ was not declared in this scope main.cpp:20: error: expected primary-expression before ‘]’ token main.cpp:20: error: expected `;' before ‘create’ main.cpp:25: error: expected `;' before ‘x’ main.cpp:31: error: expected primary-expression before ‘for’ main.cpp:31: error: expected `;' before ‘for’ main.cpp:31: error: expected primary-expression before ‘for’ main.cpp:31: error: expected `)' before ‘for’ main.cpp:31: error: expected `;' before ‘x’ main.cpp:34: error: type ‘<type error>’ argument given to ‘delete’, expected pointer main.cpp:35: error: expected primary-expression before ‘return’ main.cpp:35: error: expected `)' before ‘return’ My Student.cpp and SortedList.cpp files compile just fine. They both also include .h files. I just do not understand why I get an error on that line. It seems to be a small issue though. Any insight would be appreciated. UPDATE1: I originally had .h files included, but i changed it when trying to figure out the cause of the error. The error remains with the .h files included though. • Sorting and Re-arranging List of HashMaps

    - by HonorGod
    I have a List which is straight forward representation of a database table. I am trying to sort and apply some magic after the data is loaded into List of HashMaps. In my case this is the only hard and fast way of doing it becoz I have a rules engine that actually updates the values in the HashMap after several computations. Here is a sample data representation of the HashMap (List of HashMap) - {fromDate=Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=21, toDate=Tue Mar 23 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=1234} {fromDate=Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=11, toDate=Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=456} {fromDate=Sat Mar 20 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=20, toDate=Thu Apr 01 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=1234} {fromDate=Wed Mar 24 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=22, toDate=Sat Mar 27 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=1234} {fromDate=Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=11, toDate=Fri Mar 26 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=1234} {fromDate=Sat Mar 20 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=11, toDate=Wed Mar 31 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=1234} {fromDate=Mon Mar 15 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=12, toDate=Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=567} I am trying to achieve couple of things - 1) Sort the list by actionId and eventId after which the data would look like - {fromDate=Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=11, toDate=Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=456} {fromDate=Mon Mar 15 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=12, toDate=Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=567} {fromDate=Wed Mar 24 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=22, toDate=Sat Mar 27 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=1234} {fromDate=Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=21, toDate=Tue Mar 23 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=1234} {fromDate=Sat Mar 20 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=20, toDate=Thu Apr 01 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=1234} {fromDate=Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=11, toDate=Fri Mar 26 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=1234} {fromDate=Sat Mar 20 10:54:12 EDT 2010, eventId=11, toDate=Wed Mar 31 10:54:12 EDT 2010, actionId=1234} 2) If we group the above list by actionId they would be resolved into 3 groups - actionId=1234, actionId=567 and actionId=456. Now here is my question - For each group having the same eventId, I need to update the records so that they have wider fromDate to toDate. Meaning, if you consider the last two rows they have same actionId = 1234 and same eventId = 11. Now we can to pick the least fromDate from those 2 records which is Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 and farther toDate which is Wed Mar 31 10:54:12 and update those 2 record's fromDate and toDate to Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 and Wed Mar 31 10:54:12 respectively. Any ideas?   • UITableview has problem reloading

    - by seelani
    Hi guys, I've kinda finished my application for a school project but have run into a major "bug". It's a account management application. I'm unable to insert a picture here so here's a link: http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee112/seelani/Screenshot2010-12-22atPM075512.png Here's the problem when i click on the plus sign, i push a nav controller to load another view to handle the adding and deleting of categories. When i add and return back to the view above, it doesn't update. It only updates after i hit the button on the right which is another view used to change some settings, and return back to the page. I did some research on viewWillAppear and such but I'm still confused to why it doesn't work properly. This problem is also affecting my program when i delete a category, and return back to this view it crashes cos the view has not reloaded successfully. I will get this error when deleting and returning to the view. "* Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '* -[NSMutableArray objectAtIndex:]: index 4 beyond bounds [0 .. 3]'". • Authoritative sources about Database vs. Flatfile decision

    - by FastAl
    <tldr>looking for a reference to a book or other undeniably authoritative source that gives reasons when you should choose a database vs. when you should choose other storage methods. I have provided an un-authoritative list of reasons about 2/3 of the way down this post.</tldr> I have a situation at my company where a database is being used where it would be better to use another solution (in this case, an auto-generated piece of source code that contains a static lookup table, searched by binary sort). Normally, a database would be an OK solution even though the problem does not require a database, e.g, none of the elements of ACID are needed, as it is read-only data, updated about every 3-5 years (also requiring other sourcecode changes), and fits in memory, and can be keyed into via binary search (a tad faster than db, but speed is not an issue). The problem is that this code runs on our enterprise server, but is shared with several PC platforms (some disconnected, some use a central DB, etc.), and parts of it are managed by multiple programming units, parts by the DBAs, parts even by mathematicians in another department, etc. These hit their own platform’s version of their databases (containing their own copy of the static data). What happens is that every implementation, every little change, something different goes wrong. There are many other issues as well. I can’t even use a flatfile, because one mode of running on our enterprise server does not have permission to read files (only databases, and of course, its own literal storage, e.g., in-source table). Of course, other parts of the system use databases in proper, less obscure manners; there is no problem with those parts. So why don’t we just change it? I don’t have administrative ability to force a change. But I’m affected because sometimes I have to help fix the problems, but mostly because it causes outages and tons of extra IT time by other programmers and d*mmit that makes me mad! The reason neither management, nor the designers of the system, can see the problem is that they propose a solution that won’t work: increase communication; implement more safeguards and standards; etc. But every time, in a different part of the already-pared-down but still multi-step processes, a few different diligent, hard-working, top performing IT personnel make a unique subtle error that causes it to fail, sometimes after the last round of testing! And in general these are not single-person failures, but understandable miscommunications. And communication at our company is actually better than most. People just don't think that's the case because they haven't dug into the matter. However, I have it on very good word from somebody with extensive formal study of sociology and psychology that the relatively small amount of less-than-proper database usage in this gigantic cross-platform multi-source, multi-language project is bureaucratically un-maintainable. Impossible. No chance. At least with Human Beings in the loop, and it can’t be automated. In addition, the management and developers who could change this, though intelligent and capable, don’t understand the rigidity of this ‘how humans are’ issue, and are not convincible on the matter. The reason putting the static data in sourcecode will solve the problem is, although the solution is less sexy than a database, it would function with no technical drawbacks; and since the sharing of sourcecode already works very well, you basically erase any database-related effort from this section of the project, along with all the drawbacks of it that are causing problems. OK, that’s the background, for the curious. I won’t be able to convince management that this is an unfixable sociological problem, and that the real solution is coding around these limits of human nature, just as you would code around a bug in a 3rd party component that you can’t change. So what I have to do is exploit the unsuitableness of the database solution, and not do it using logic, but rather authority. I am aware of many reasons, and posts on this site giving reasons for one over the other; I’m not looking for lists of reasons like these (although you can add a comment if I've miss a doozy): WHY USE A DATABASE? instead of flatfile/other DB vs. file: if you need... Random Read / Transparent search optimization Advanced / varied / customizable Searching and sorting capabilities Transaction/rollback Locks, semaphores Concurrency control / Shared users Security 1-many/m-m is easier Easy modification Scalability Load Balancing Random updates / inserts / deletes Advanced query Administrative control of design, etc. SQL / learning curve Debugging / Logging Centralized / Live Backup capabilities Cached queries / dvlp & cache execution plans Interleaved update/read Referential integrity, avoid redundant/missing/corrupt/out-of-sync data Reporting (from on olap or oltp db) / turnkey generation tools [Disadvantages:] Important to get right the first time - professional design - but only b/c it's meant to last s/w & h/w cost Usu. over a network, speed issue (best vs. best design vs. local=even then a separate process req's marshalling/netwk layers/inter-p comm) indicies and query processing can stand in the way of simple processing (vs. flatfile) WHY USE FLATFILE: If you only need... Sequential Row processing only Limited usage append only (no reading, no master key/update) Only Update the record you're reading (fixed length recs only) Too big to fit into memory If Local disk / read-ahead network connection Portability / small system Email / cut & Paste / store as document by novice - simple format Low design learning curve but high cost later WHY USE IN-MEMORY/TABLE (tables, arrays, etc.): if you need... Processing a single db/ff record that was imported Known size of data Static data if hardcoding the table Narrow, unchanging use (e.g., one program or proc) -includes a class that will be shared, but encapsulates its data manipulation Extreme speed needed / high transaction frequency Random access - but search is dependent on implementation Following are some other posts about the topic: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1499239/database-vs-flat-text-file-what-are-some-technical-reasons-for-choosing-one-over http://stackoverflow.com/questions/332825/are-flat-file-databases-any-good http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2356851/database-vs-flat-files http://stackoverflow.com/questions/514455/databases-vs-plain-text/514530 What I’d like to know is if anybody could recommend a hard, authoritative source containing these reasons. I’m looking for a paper book I can buy, or a reputable website with whitepapers about the issue (e.g., Microsoft, IBM), not counting the user-generated content on those sites. This will have a greater change to elicit a change that I’m looking for: less wasted programmer time, and more reliable programs. Thanks very much for your help. You win a prize for reading such a large post!

  • Adapting a HTML/CSS dropdown menu to multi-level

    - by Adam Nygate
    Ive been trying to make the original dropdown into multi level for a site im working on. All of my attempts have failed (. For some reason i can only do "margin-right" to align the elements, and this causes some problems. I think it has something to do with the position attribute. Here is my HTML: <ol id="nav"> <li><a href="index.php">Home</a></li> <li class="dropdown_alignedLeft"> <a href="">Products</a> <ul><li class="dropdown_alignedRight"> <a href="">iPoP</a> <ul style="margin-right:-400px; top:0px;-webkit-border-top-right-radius: 5px;border-top-right-radius: 5px;-moz-border-radius-topright: 5px;"><li><a href="customers.php?category=ipop">iPoP - Network Solutions for Vessels</a></li></ul><li class="dropdown_alignedRight"> <a href="">Cameras</a> <ul style="margin-right:-400px; top:0px;-webkit-border-top-right-radius: 5px;border-top-right-radius: 5px;-moz-border-radius-topright: 5px;"><li><a href="customers.php?category=icam">iCam 501 Ultra - Intrinsically Safe Digital Camera with Flash</a></li></ul><li class="dropdown_alignedRight"> <a href="">BNWAS</a> <ul style="margin-right:-400px; top:0px;-webkit-border-top-right-radius: 5px;border-top-right-radius: 5px;-moz-border-radius-topright: 5px;"><li><a href="customers.php?category=bnwas">BNWAS - Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm System</a></li></ul><li class="dropdown_alignedRight"> <a href="">Lighting</a> <ul style="margin-right:-400px; top:0px;-webkit-border-top-right-radius: 5px;border-top-right-radius: 5px;-moz-border-radius-topright: 5px;"><li><a href="customers.php?category=peli">Peli 2690 - Intrinsically Safe LED Head Lamp</a></li></ul><li class="dropdown_alignedRight"> <a href="">Communication</a> <ul style="margin-right:-400px; top:0px;-webkit-border-top-right-radius: 5px;border-top-right-radius: 5px;-moz-border-radius-topright: 5px;"><li><a href="customers.php?category=handy">Ex-Handy 06 - Intrinsically Safe Cell Phone</a></li></ul> </ul> <li class="dropdown_alignedLeft"> <a href="">Customers</a> <ul> <li><a href="customers.php?category=maritime">Maritime</a></li> <li><a href="customers.php?category=non">Non-Maritime</a></li> <li class="dropdown_lastItem"><a href="customers.php?category=organizations">Regulatory Organizations</a></li> </ul> <li><a href="order.php">Product Enquiry</a></li> <li><a href="contact.php">Contact Us</a></li> <li class="dropdown_alignedLeft"> <a href="">Company</a> <ul> <!-- <li><a href="">About Us</a></li> --> <li><a href="newsandpr.php?category=News">News</a></li> <li class="dropdown_lastItem"><a href="newsandpr.php?category=Press Release">Press Releases</a></li> </ul> </ol> And my CSS: #nav { float:right; margin:15px 0 0; } #nav li { float:left; } #nav li a { display:block; font-family:"PT Sans","Helvetica Neue",Arial,sans-serif; font-size:16px; text-decoration:none; color:#2B95C8; padding:10px 20px 20px; } .dropdown_alignedLeft,.dropdown_alignedRight { position:relative; } #nav .dropdown_alignedLeft>a,#nav .dropdown_alignedRight>a { background:url(../images/dropdown_arrow_blue.png) no-repeat top right; padding:10px 30px 20px 20px; } #nav .dropdown_alignedLeft:hover>a,#nav .dropdown_alignedRight:hover>a { -moz-border-radius-topleft:5px; -moz-border-radius-topright:5px; -moz-border-radius-bottomright:0; -moz-border-radius-bottomleft:0; -webkit-border-top-left-radius:5px; -webkit-border-top-right-radius:5px; -webkit-border-bottom-right-radius:0; -webkit-border-bottom-left-radius:0; border-top-left-radius:5px; border-top-right-radius:5px; border-bottom-right-radius:0; border-bottom-left-radius:0; color:#FFF; background:#2378A1 url(../images/dropdown_arrow_blue.png) no-repeat bottom right; } .dropdown_alignedLeft ul,.dropdown_alignedRight ul { display:none; } #nav .dropdown_alignedLeft:hover>ul,#nav .dropdown_alignedRight:hover>ul { display:block; z-index:100; position:absolute; top:50px; -moz-border-radius-topleft:0; -moz-border-radius-topright:0; -moz-border-radius-bottomright:5px; -moz-border-radius-bottomleft:5px; -webkit-border-top-left-radius:0; -webkit-border-top-right-radius:0; -webkit-border-bottom-right-radius:5px; -webkit-border-bottom-left-radius:5px; border-top-left-radius:0; border-top-right-radius:0; border-bottom-right-radius:5px; border-bottom-left-radius:5px; background:#2378A1; padding:0 0 6px; } #nav .dropdown_alignedRight:hover>ul { top:50px; right:0; text-align:right; } #nav li ul li { float:none; border-bottom:1px dashed #2B95C8; margin:0 20px; } #nav li ul li.dropdown_innerTitle { border:none; font-family:"Helvetica Neue",Arial,sans-serif; font-size:15px; white-space:nowrap; color:#C8DDE7; margin:10px 20px 0; padding:10px 0; } #nav li ul li.dropdown_lastItem { border:none; } #nav li ul li a { font-family:"Helvetica Neue",Arial,sans-serif; font-size:13px; color:#FFF; white-space:nowrap; padding:10px 0 9px; } #nav>li:hover>a,#nav li .current_page { color:#2378A1; background:url(../images/current_page_arrow_blue.png) no-repeat center bottom; } #nav li ul li a:hover { color: #C8DDE7; } For a live version of the menu, please go here: JSFiddle - Live Menu

  • how to version minder for web application data

    - by dankyy1
    hi all;I'm devoloping a web application which renders data from DB and also updates datas with editor UI Pages.So i want to implement a versioning mechanism for render pages got data over db again if only data on db updated by editor pages.. I decided to use Session objects for the version information that client had taken latestly.And the Application object that the latest DB version of objects ,i used the data objects guid as key for each data item client version holder class like below ItemRunnigVersionInformation class holds currentitem guid and last loadtime from DB public class ClientVersionManager { public static List<ItemRunnigVersionInformation> SessionItemRunnigVersionInformation { get { if (HttpContext.Current.Session["SessionItemRunnigVersionInformation"] == null) HttpContext.Current.Session["SessionItemRunnigVersionInformation"] = new List<ItemRunnigVersionInformation>(); • How to find an entry-level job after you already have a graduate degree?

    - by Uri
    Note: I asked this question in early 2009. A couple of months later, I found a great job. I've previously updated this question with some tips for whoever ends up in a similar situation, and now cleaned it up a little for the benefit of the fresh batch of graduates. Original post: In my early 20s I abandoned a great C++ development career path in a major company to go to graduate school and get a research masters (3 years). I did another year in industrial research, and then moved to the US to attend graduate school again, getting another masters and a Ph.D in software engineering from a top school (another 6 years down the drain). I was coding the whole way throughout my degrees (core Java and Eclipse plug-ins) and working on research related to software engineering (usability of APIs). I ended up graduating the year of the recession, with a son on the way and the prospects of no healthcare. Academic jobs and industrial research jobs are quite scarce. Initially, I was naive, thinking that with my background, I could easily find a coding job. Big mistake. It turns out that I'm in a complicated position. Entry level positions are usually offered to college undergraduates. I attended my school's career fairs, but you could immediately see signs of Ph.D. aversion and overqualification issues. Some of the recruiters I spoke with explicitly told me that they wanted 20 year olds with clean slates, and some were looking for interns since they are in various forms of hiring freezes. I managed to get a couple of interviews from these career fairs and through recruiters. However, since I've been out of school for a long time and programming primarily in Java, I am also no longer proficient in C/C++ and the usual range of college-level interview questions that everyone uses. I had no problems with this when I was 19 and interviewing for my first job since a lot of what you do in C is manipulate pointers and I was coding C++ for fun and for school. Later I was routinely doing pointer manipulation on the job, and during my first masters taught college courses with data structures and C++. But even though I remember many properties of C++ well, it's been close to ten years since I regularly used C++ and pointers. As a Java developer I rarely had to work at this level, but experience in OOD and in writing good maintainable code is meaningless for C++ interviews. Reading books as a refresh and looking at sample code did not do the trick. I also looked at mid-to-senior level Java positions, but most of them focused on J2EE APIs rather than on core Java and required a certain number of years in industrial positions. Coding research tools and prior C++ experience doesn't count. So that sends me back to entry-level jobs that are posted through job-boards, and these are not common (mostly they are Monster junk), and small companies are even less likely to answer a Ph.D. compared to the giants who participate in top-10 career fairs. Even worse, in many companies initial screening is done by HR folks who really don't want to deal with anything anomalous like a Ph.D. Any tips on how I should approach this intractable position? For example, what should I write in cover letters? Note that while immigration is not an issue for me, I cannot go freelance as I need the benefits (and in particular group health insurance). During my studies I had no time to contribute to open-source projects or maintain a popular blog, so even if I invested in that now there would be no immediate benefit. Updates: In the two months after posting this I received several offers to work as a core Java developer in the financial industry and accepted one from a firm where I am working to this day. For those who find themselves in similar situations, here are my tips: Give up on trying to find an entry level positions. You can't undo time. Accept the fact that there is Ph.D. discrimination in the job market (some might say rightfully so). It is legal to discriminate based on education. No point fighting it. The most important tip is to focus on the language you are comfortable with. The sad truth about programming in a particular language is that it is not like riding a bike. If you haven't used a language in the last few years, and can't actually apply it routinely (not just as a refresher) before you start your search, it is going to be very difficult to do well in an interview. Now that I'm interviewing others, I routinely see it in folks with a mixed C++/Java background. We maintain "a shadow" of the old language but end up with a weird mix that makes it hard to interview on either. Entry-level folks are at an advantage here since they usually have one language. Memory can help you do great in a screening interview, but without recent day-to-day experience, code tests will be difficult. Despite the supposed relation, core Java programming and J2EE programming are two different things with different skillsets. If you come from academia, you likely have very little J2EE experience and may find it hard to get accepted for a J2EE job. J2EE jobs seem to have a larger list of acronyms in their requirements. In addition, from interviewing J2EE developers it seems that for many there is a focus on mastering specific APIs and architectures, whereas core Java development tends to be secondary. In the same way that I can no longer manipulate pointers well, a J2EE developer may have difficulties doing low level Java manipulation. This puts you at a relative advantage in competing for core Java jobs! If you are able to work for startups (in terms of family life and stability) or migrate to startup-rich areas such as the west coast, you can find many exciting opportunities where advanced degrees are a benefit. I've since been approached by several startups, although I had to decline. Work through a recruiter if possible. They have direct contacts with the hiring parties, allowing you to "stand out". It is better to get a clear yes/no confirmation from a recruiter on whether a company might be interested in interviewing you, than it is to send your resume and hope that someone will ever see it. Recruiters are also a great way of bypassing HR. However, also beware of recruiters. They have a vested interest and will go to various shady practices and pressure tactics. To find a good recruiter, talk to a friend who declined a job offer he got through a recruiter. A good recruiter, to me, is measured in how they handle that. Interview for the jobs that require your core strength. If you're rusty or entirely unfamiliar with a technology around which the job revolves, you're probably not a good match. Yes, you probably have the talent to master them, but most companies would want "instant gratification". I got my offers from companies that wanted core Java developer. I didn't do well on places that wanted advance C++ because I am too rusty and not up to date on recent libraries. I also didn't hear from companies that wanted lots of J2EE experience, and that's ok. Finding companies that want core Java without web is harder, but exists in specific industries (e.g., finance, defense). This requires a lot more legwork in terms of search, but these jobs do exist. There are different interview styles. Some companies focus on puzzles, some companies focus on algorithms, and some companies focus on design and coding skills. I had the most success in places where the questions were the most related to the function I would have been performing. Pick companies accordingly as well.

  • How do I prove I should put a table of values in source code instead of a database table?

  • Deadlock in SQL Server 2005! Two real-time bulk upserts are fighting. WHY?

    - by skimania
    Here's the scenario: I've got a table called MarketDataCurrent (MDC) that has live updating stock prices. I've got one process called 'LiveFeed' which reads prices streaming from the wire, queues up inserts, and uses a 'bulk upload to temp table then insert/update to MDC table.' (BulkUpsert) I've got another process which then reads this data, computes other data, and then saves the results back into the same table, using a similar BulkUpsert stored proc. Thirdly, there are a multitude of users running a C# Gui polling the MDC table and reading updates from it. Now, during the day when the data is changing rapidly, things run pretty smoothly, but then, after market hours, we've recently started seeing an increasing number of Deadlock exceptions coming out of the database, nowadays we see 10-20 a day. The imporant thing to note here is that these happen when the values are NOT changing. Here's all the relevant info: Table Def: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[MarketDataCurrent]( [MDID] [int] NOT NULL, [LastUpdate] [datetime] NOT NULL, [Value] [float] NOT NULL, [Source] [varchar](20) NULL, CONSTRAINT [PK_MarketDataCurrent] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [MDID] ASC )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY] ) ON [PRIMARY] - I've got a Sql Profiler Trace Running, catching the deadlocks, and here's what all the graphs look like. Process 258 is called the following 'BulkUpsert' stored proc, repeatedly, while 73 is calling the next one: ALTER proc [dbo].[MarketDataCurrent_BulkUpload] @updateTime datetime, @source varchar(10) as begin transaction update c with (rowlock) set LastUpdate = getdate(), Value = t.Value, Source = @source from MarketDataCurrent c INNER JOIN #MDTUP t ON c.MDID = t.mdid where c.lastUpdate < @updateTime and c.mdid not in (select mdid from MarketData where LiveFeedTicker is not null and PriceSource like 'LiveFeed.%') and c.value <> t.value insert into MarketDataCurrent with (rowlock) select MDID, getdate(), Value, @source from #MDTUP where mdid not in (select mdid from MarketDataCurrent with (nolock)) and mdid not in (select mdid from MarketData where LiveFeedTicker is not null and PriceSource like 'LiveFeed.%') commit And the other one: ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[MarketDataCurrent_LiveFeedUpload] AS begin transaction -- Update existing mdid UPDATE c WITH (ROWLOCK) SET LastUpdate = t.LastUpdate, Value = t.Value, Source = t.Source FROM MarketDataCurrent c INNER JOIN #TEMPTABLE2 t ON c.MDID = t.mdid; -- Insert new MDID INSERT INTO MarketDataCurrent with (ROWLOCK) SELECT * FROM #TEMPTABLE2 WHERE MDID NOT IN (SELECT MDID FROM MarketDataCurrent with (NOLOCK)) -- Clean up the temp table DELETE #TEMPTABLE2 commit To clarify, those Temp Tables are being created by the C# code on the same connection and are populated using the C# SqlBulkCopy class. To me it looks like it's deadlocking on the PK of the table, so I tried removing that PK and switching to a Unique Constraint instead but that increased the number of deadlocks 10-fold. I'm totally lost as to what to do about this situation and am open to just about any suggestion. HELP!! In response to the request for the XDL, here it is: <deadlock-list> <deadlock victim="processc19978"> <process-list> <process id="processaf0b68" taskpriority="0" logused="0" waitresource="KEY: 6:72057594090487808 (d900ed5a6cc6)" waittime="718" ownerId="1102128174" transactionname="user_transaction" lasttranstarted="2010-06-11T16:30:44.750" XDES="0xffffffff817f9a40" lockMode="U" schedulerid="3" kpid="8228" status="suspended" spid="73" sbid="0" ecid="0" priority="0" transcount="2" lastbatchstarted="2010-06-11T16:30:44.750" lastbatchcompleted="2010-06-11T16:30:44.750" clientapp=".Net SqlClient Data Provider" hostname="RISKAPPS_VM" hostpid="3836" loginname="RiskOpt" isolationlevel="read committed (2)" xactid="1102128174" currentdb="6" lockTimeout="4294967295" clientoption1="671088672" clientoption2="128056"> <executionStack> <frame procname="MKP_RISKDB.dbo.MarketDataCurrent_BulkUpload" line="28" stmtstart="1062" stmtend="1720" sqlhandle="0x03000600a28e5e4ef4fd8e00849d00000100000000000000"> UPDATE c WITH (ROWLOCK) SET LastUpdate = getdate(), Value = t.Value, Source = @source FROM MarketDataCurrent c INNER JOIN #MDTUP t ON c.MDID = t.mdid WHERE c.lastUpdate &lt; @updateTime and c.mdid not in (select mdid from MarketData where BloombergTicker is not null and PriceSource like &apos;Blbg.%&apos;) and c.value &lt;&gt; t.value </frame> <frame procname="adhoc" line="1" stmtstart="88" sqlhandle="0x01000600c1653d0598706ca7000000000000000000000000"> exec MarketDataCurrent_BulkUpload @clearBefore, @source </frame> <frame procname="unknown" line="1" sqlhandle="0x000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000"> unknown </frame> </executionStack> <inputbuf> (@clearBefore datetime,@source nvarchar(10))exec MarketDataCurrent_BulkUpload @clearBefore, @source </inputbuf> </process> <process id="processc19978" taskpriority="0" logused="0" waitresource="KEY: 6:72057594090487808 (74008e31572b)" waittime="718" ownerId="1102128228" transactionname="user_transaction" lasttranstarted="2010-06-11T16:30:44.780" XDES="0x380be9d8" lockMode="U" schedulerid="5" kpid="8464" status="suspended" spid="248" sbid="0" ecid="0" priority="0" transcount="2" lastbatchstarted="2010-06-11T16:30:44.780" lastbatchcompleted="2010-06-11T16:30:44.780" clientapp=".Net SqlClient Data Provider" hostname="RISKBBG_VM" hostpid="4480" loginname="RiskOpt" isolationlevel="read committed (2)" xactid="1102128228" currentdb="6" lockTimeout="4294967295" clientoption1="671088672" clientoption2="128056"> <executionStack> <frame procname="MKP_RISKDB.dbo.MarketDataCurrentBlbgRtUpload" line="14" stmtstart="840" stmtend="1220" sqlhandle="0x03000600005f9d24c8878f00849d00000100000000000000"> UPDATE c WITH (ROWLOCK) SET LastUpdate = t.LastUpdate, Value = t.Value, Source = t.Source FROM MarketDataCurrent c INNER JOIN #TEMPTABLE2 t ON c.MDID = t.mdid; -- Insert new MDID </frame> <frame procname="adhoc" line="1" sqlhandle="0x010006004a58132228bf8d73000000000000000000000000"> MarketDataCurrentBlbgRtUpload </frame> </executionStack> <inputbuf> MarketDataCurrentBlbgRtUpload </inputbuf> </process> </process-list> <resource-list> <keylock hobtid="72057594090487808" dbid="6" objectname="MKP_RISKDB.dbo.MarketDataCurrent" indexname="PK_MarketDataCurrent" id="lock5ba77b00" mode="U" associatedObjectId="72057594090487808"> <owner-list> <owner id="processc19978" mode="U"/> </owner-list> <waiter-list> <waiter id="processaf0b68" mode="U" requestType="wait"/> </waiter-list> </keylock> <keylock hobtid="72057594090487808" dbid="6" objectname="MKP_RISKDB.dbo.MarketDataCurrent" indexname="PK_MarketDataCurrent" id="lock65dca340" mode="U" associatedObjectId="72057594090487808"> <owner-list> <owner id="processaf0b68" mode="U"/> </owner-list> <waiter-list> <waiter id="processc19978" mode="U" requestType="wait"/> </waiter-list> </keylock> </resource-list> </deadlock> </deadlock-list>

  • MVC 3 Client Validation works intermittently

    - by Gutek
    I have MVC 3 version, System.Web.Mvc product version is: 3.0.20105.0 modified on 5th of Jan 2011 - i think that's the latest. I’ve notice that client validation is not working as it suppose in the application that we are creating, so I’ve made a quick test. I’ve created basic MVC 3 Application using Internet Application template. I’ve added Test Controller: using System.Web.Mvc; using MvcApplication3.Models; namespace MvcApplication3.Controllers { public class TestController : Controller { public ActionResult Index() { return View(); } public ActionResult Create() { Sample model = new Sample(); return View(model); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult Create(Sample model) { if(!ModelState.IsValid) { return View(); } return RedirectToAction("Display"); } public ActionResult Display() { Sample model = new Sample(); model.Age = 10; model.CardNumber = "1324234"; model.Email = "[email protected]"; model.Title = "hahah"; return View(model); } } } Model: using System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations; namespace MvcApplication3.Models { public class Sample { [Required] public string Title { get; set; } [Required] public string Email { get; set; } [Required] [Range(4, 120, ErrorMessage = "Oi! Common!")] public short Age { get; set; } [Required] public string CardNumber { get; set; } } } And 3 views: Create: @model MvcApplication3.Models.Sample @{ ViewBag.Title = "Create"; Layout = "~/Views/Shared/_Layout.cshtml"; } <h2>Create</h2> <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.min.js")" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.unobtrusive.min.js")" type="text/javascript"></script> @*@{ Html.EnableClientValidation(); }*@ @using (Html.BeginForm()) { @Html.ValidationSummary(false) <fieldset> <legend>Sample</legend> <div class="editor-label"> @Html.LabelFor(model => model.Title) </div> <div class="editor-field"> @Html.EditorFor(model => model.Title) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Title) </div> <div class="editor-label"> @Html.LabelFor(model => model.Email) </div> <div class="editor-field"> @Html.EditorFor(model => model.Email) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Email) </div> <div class="editor-label"> @Html.LabelFor(model => model.Age) </div> <div class="editor-field"> @Html.EditorFor(model => model.Age) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Age) </div> <div class="editor-label"> @Html.LabelFor(model => model.CardNumber) </div> <div class="editor-field"> @Html.EditorFor(model => model.CardNumber) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.CardNumber) </div> <p> <input type="submit" value="Create" /> </p> </fieldset> @*<fieldset> @Html.EditorForModel() <p> <input type="submit" value="Create" /> </p> </fieldset> *@ } <div> @Html.ActionLink("Back to List", "Index") </div> Display: @model MvcApplication3.Models.Sample @{ ViewBag.Title = "Display"; Layout = "~/Views/Shared/_Layout.cshtml"; } <h2>Display</h2> <fieldset> <legend>Sample</legend> <div class="display-label">Title</div> <div class="display-field">@Model.Title</div> <div class="display-label">Email</div> <div class="display-field">@Model.Email</div> <div class="display-label">Age</div> <div class="display-field">@Model.Age</div> <div class="display-label">CardNumber</div> <div class="display-field">@Model.CardNumber</div> </fieldset> <p> @Html.ActionLink("Back to List", "Index") </p> Index: @{ ViewBag.Title = "Index"; Layout = "~/Views/Shared/_Layout.cshtml"; } <h2>Index</h2> <p> @Html.ActionLink("Create", "Create") </p> <p> @Html.ActionLink("Display", "Display") </p> Everything is default here – Create Controller, AddView from controller action with model specified with proper scaffold template and using provided layout in sample application. When I will go to /Test/Create client validation in most cases works only for Title and Age fields, after clicking Create it works for all fields (create does not goes to server). However in some cases (after a build) Title validation is not working and Email is, or CardNumber or Title and CardNumber but Email is not. But never all validation is working before clicking Create. I’ve tried creating form with Html.EditorForModel as well as enforce client validation just before BeginForm: @{ Html.EnableClientValidation(); } I’m providing a source code for this sample on dropbox – as maybe our dev env is broken :/ I’ve done tests on IE 8 and Chrome 10 beta. Just in case, in web config validation scripts are enabled: <appSettings> <add key="ClientValidationEnabled" value="true"/> <add key="UnobtrusiveJavaScriptEnabled" value="true"/> </appSettings> So my questions are Is there a way to ensure that Client validation will work as it supposed to work and not intermittently? Is this a desired behavior and I'm missing something in configuration/implementation?

  • Android remote service doesn't call service methods

    - by tarantel
    Hello, I'm developing a GPS tracking software on android. I need IPC to control the service from different activities. So I decide to develop a remote service with AIDL. This wasn't a big problem but now it's always running into the methods of the interface and not into those of my service class. Maybe someone could help me? Here my ADIL file: package test.de.android.tracker interface ITrackingServiceRemote { void startTracking(in long trackId); void stopTracking(); void pauseTracking(); void resumeTracking(in long trackId); long trackingState(); } And the here a short version of my service class: public class TrackingService extends Service implements LocationListener{ private LocationManager mLocationManager; private TrackDb db; private long trackId; private boolean isTracking = false; @Override public void onCreate() { super.onCreate(); mNotificationManager = (NotificationManager) this .getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE); mLocationManager = (LocationManager) getSystemService(LOCATION_SERVICE); db = new TrackDb(this.getApplicationContext()); } @Override public void onStart(Intent intent, int startId) { super.onStart(intent, startId); } @Override public void onDestroy(){ //TODO super.onDestroy(); } @Override public IBinder onBind(Intent intent){ return this.mBinder; } private IBinder mBinder = new ITrackingServiceRemote.Stub() { public void startTracking(long trackId) throws RemoteException { TrackingService.this.startTracking(trackId); } public void pauseTracking() throws RemoteException { TrackingService.this.pauseTracking(); } public void resumeTracking(long trackId) throws RemoteException { TrackingService.this.resumeTracking(trackId); } public void stopTracking() throws RemoteException { TrackingService.this.stopTracking(); } public long trackingState() throws RemoteException { long state = TrackingService.this.trackingState(); return state; } }; public synchronized void startTracking(long trackId) { // request updates every 250 meters or 0 sec this.trackId = trackId; mLocationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 0, 250, this); isTracking = true; } public synchronized long trackingState() { if(isTracking){ return trackId; } else return -1; } public synchronized void stopTracking() { if(isTracking){ mLocationManager.removeUpdates(this); isTracking = false; } else Log.i(TAG, "Could not stop because service is not tracking at the moment"); } public synchronized void resumeTracking(long trackId) { if(!isTracking){ this.trackId = trackId; mLocationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 0, 250, this); isTracking = true; } else Log.i(TAG, "Could not resume because service is tracking already track " + this.trackId); } public synchronized void pauseTracking() { if(isTracking){ mLocationManager.removeUpdates(this); isTracking = false; } else Log.i(TAG, "Could not pause because service is not tracking at the moment"); } public void onLocationChanged(Location location) { //TODO } For easier access from the client I wrote a ServiceManager class which sets up the ServiceConnection and you can call the service methods. Here my code for this: public class TrackingServiceManager{ private static final String TAG = "TrackingServiceManager"; private ITrackingServiceRemote mService = null; private Context mContext; private Boolean isBound = false; private ServiceConnection mServiceConnection; public TrackingServiceManager(Context ctx){ this.mContext = ctx; } public void start(long trackId) { if (isBound && mService != null) { try { mService.startTracking(trackId); } catch (RemoteException e) { Log.e(TAG, "Could not start tracking!",e); } } else Log.i(TAG, "No Service bound! 1"); } public void stop(){ if (isBound && mService != null) { try { mService.stopTracking(); } catch (RemoteException e) { Log.e(TAG, "Could not stop tracking!",e); } } else Log.i(TAG, "No Service bound!"); } public void pause(){ if (isBound && mService != null) { try { mService.pauseTracking(); } catch (RemoteException e) { Log.e(TAG, "Could not pause tracking!",e); } } else Log.i(TAG, "No Service bound!"); } public void resume(long trackId){ if (isBound && mService != null) { try { mService.resumeTracking(trackId); } catch (RemoteException e) { Log.e(TAG, "Could not resume tracking!",e); } } else Log.i(TAG, "No Service bound!"); } public float state(){ if (isBound && mService != null) { try { return mService.trackingState(); } catch (RemoteException e) { Log.e(TAG, "Could not resume tracking!",e); return -1; } } else Log.i(TAG, "No Service bound!"); return -1; } /** * Method for binding the Service with client */ public boolean connectService(){ mServiceConnection = new ServiceConnection() { @Override public void onServiceConnected(ComponentName name, IBinder service) { TrackingServiceManager.this.mService = ITrackingServiceRemote.Stub.asInterface(service); } } @Override public void onServiceDisconnected(ComponentName name) { if (mService != null) { mService = null; } } }; Intent mIntent = new Intent("test.de.android.tracker.action.intent.TrackingService"); this.isBound = this.mContext.bindService(mIntent, mServiceConnection, Context.BIND_AUTO_CREATE); return this.isBound; } public void disconnectService(){ this.mContext.unbindService(mServiceConnection); this.isBound = false; } } If i now try to call a method from an activity for example start(trackId) nothing happens. The binding is OK. When debugging it always runs into the startTracking() in the generated ITrackingServiceRemote.java file and not into my TrackingService class. Where is the problem? I can't find anything wrong. Thanks in advance! Tobias

  • Unnecessary Error Message Being Displayed

    - by ThatMacLad
    I've set up a form to update my blog and it was working fine up until about this morning.
