  • URL with no query parameters - How to distinguish.

    Env: .NET 1.1 I got into this situation. Where I need to give a URL that someone could redirect them to our page. When they redirect they also need to tell us, what message I need to display on the page. Initially I thought of something like this. http://example.com/a.aspx?reason=100 http://example.com/a.aspx?reason=101 ... http://example.com/a.aspx?reason=115 So when we get this url based on 'reason' we can display different message. But the problem turns out to be that they can not send any query parameters at all. They want 15 difference URL's since they can't send query params. It doesn't make any sense to me to created 15 pages just to display a message. Any smart ideas,that have one URL and pass the 'reason' thru some means? EDIT: Options I'm thinking based on Answers Try HttpRequest.PathInfo or Second option I was thinking was to have a httphanlder read read the path like this - HttpContext.Request.Path based on path act. Ofcourse I will have some 15 entries like this in web.config. <add verb="*" path="reason1.ashx" type="WebApplication1.Class1, WebApplication1" /> <add verb="*" path="reason2.ashx" type="WebApplication1.Class1, WebApplication1" /> Does that look clean?

  • Browsers disagree about the text of a body element

    My HTML looks like this: <html> <head> <title>Test</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="jQuery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function init() { var text = jQuery('body').text(); alert('length = ' + text.length); } </script> </head> <body onload="init()">0123456789</body> </html> When I load this in Firefox, the length is reported as 10. However, in Chrome it's 11 because it thinks there's a linefeed after the '9'. In IE it's also 11, but the last character is an escape. Meanwhile, Opera thinks there are 12 characters, with the last two being CR LF. If I change the body element to include a span: <body onload="init()"><span>0123456789</span></body> and the jQuery call to: var text = jQuery('body span').text(); then all the browsers agree that the length is 10. Clearly it's the body element that's causing the issue, but can anyone explain exactly why this is happening? I'm particularly surprised because the excellent jQuery is normally browser-independent.

    Hey everybody, I need a bit of a hand with declaring a string array in my class header file in C++. atm it looks like this: //Maze.h #include <string> class Maze { GLfloat mazeSize, mazeX, mazeY, mazeZ; string* mazeLayout; public: Maze ( ); void render(); }; and the constructor looks like this: //Maze.cpp #include <GL/gl.h> #include "Maze.h" #include <iostream> #include <fstream> Maze::Maze( ) { cin >> mazeSize; mazeLayout = new string[mazeSize]; mazeX = 2/mazeSize; mazeY = 0.25; mazeZ = 2/mazeSize; } I'm getting a compiler error that says: In file included from model-view.cpp:11: Maze.h:14: error: ISO C++ forbids declaration of ‘string’ with no type Maze.h:14: error: expected ‘;’ before ‘*’ token and the only sense that makes to me is that for some reason it thinks I want string as a variable name not as a type declaration. If anybody could help me out that would be fantastic, been looking this up for a while and its giving me the shits lol. Cheers guys

  • Weird bug with C++ lambda expressions in VS2010

It also happens if catching by value. The error seems to be tied to the member name "y1". It happened in different classes, different projects and with (seemingly) any type for y1; for example, this code: [...] MyClass y1; void TestFunc() { auto BadLambda = [&]()->void { int l = static_cast<int>(y1); //c2440 }; } generates both these errors: error C2440: 'static_cast' : cannot convert from 'MyClass' to 'int' No user-defined-conversion operator available that can perform this conversion, or the operator cannot be called error C2440: 'static_cast' : cannot convert from 'double (__cdecl *)(double)' to 'int' There is no context in which this conversion is possible It didn't, however, happen in a completely new project. I thought maybe it was related to Lua (the projects where I managed to reproduce this bug both used Lua), but I did not manage to reproduce it in a new project linking Lua. It doesn't seem to be a known bug, and I'm at a loss. Any ideas as to why this happens? (I don't need a workaround; there are a few in the code already).   • Jquery problem - cant expand the row above in a table

    Hi People, What I cant figure out is how I would toggle a row in a table using the one below it. So say I have a table with 2 rows the first contains content and the one below contains a button, when the page loads the content row is hidden and when you click the button it toggles the content row on and off.   • Representing complex scheduled reoccurance in a database

    I have the interesting problem of representing complex schedule data in a database. As a guideline, I need to be able to represent the entirety of what the iCalendar -- ics -- format can represent, but in a database. I'm not actually implementing anything relating to ics, but it gives a good scope of the type of rules I need to be able to model. I need to allow allow representation of a single event or a reoccurring event based on multiple times per day, days of the week, week of a month, month, year, or some combination of those. For example, the third Thursday in November annually, or the 25th of December annually, or every two weeks starting November 2 and continuing until September 8 the following year. I don't care about insertion efficiency but query efficiency is critical. The operation I will be doing most often is providing either a single date/time or a date/time range, and trying to determine if the defined schedule matches any part of the date/time range. Other operations can be slower. For example, given January 15, 2010 at 10:00 AM through January 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM, find all schedules that match at least part of that time. (i.e. a schedule that covers 10:30 - 11:00 still matches.) Any suggestions? I looked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1016170/how-would-one-represent-scheduled-events-in-an-rdbms but it doesn't cover the scope of the type of reoccurance rules I'd like to model.

  • JFLAP Turing Machine shortcut problem

    In JFLAP (http://jflap.org), there are some shortcuts for Turing machine transitions. One of these shortcuts allows you to transition as long as the current tape symbol isn't the indicated symbol. For example, the transition !g,x;R basically says "Take this transition if the current tape symbol is not g". So far, so good. But the transition I want is !?,~;R which basically says "Move right as long as the current symbol is not the end-of-string (empty cell) symbol". The problem is I cannot figure out how to type in "!?". The JFLAP online documentation (http://www.jflap.org/tutorial/turing/one/index.html#syntax) has this to say: The first shortcut is that there exists the option of using the “!” character to convey the meaning of “any character but this character.” For example, concerning the transition (!a; x, R), if the head encounters any character but an “a”, it will replace the character with an “x” and move right. To write the expression “!?”, just type a “1” in when inputting a command. My question is...how do I actually do what that last sentence is trying to explain to me? Thanks for your help! Robert

  • Import CSV to mysql

    I have created a database and table. I have also created all the fields i will be needing. I have created 46 fields including 1 that is my ID for the row. The CSV doesn't contain the id field, nor does it contain the headers for the columns. I am new to all of this but have been trying to figure this out. I'm not on here being lazy asking for the answer, but looking for direction. I'm trying to figure out how to import the CSV but have it start importing data starting at the 2nd field, since I'm hoping the auto_increment will fill in the ID field, which is the first field i created. I tried these instructions with now luck.   • Reflecting over classes in .NET produces methods only differing by a modifier

    I'm a bit boggled by something, I hope the CLR gearheads can help. Apparently my gears aren't big enough. I have a reflector utility that generates assembly stubs for Cola for .NET, and I find classes have methods that only differ by a modifier, such as virtual. Example below, from Oracle.DataAccess.dll, method GetType(): class OracleTypeException : System.SystemException { virtual string ToString (); virtual System.Exception GetBaseException (); virtual void set_Source (string value); virtual void GetObjectData (System.Runtime.Serialization.SerializationInfo info, System.Runtime.Serialization.StreamingContext context); virtual System.Type GetType (); // here virtual bool Equals (object obj); virtual int32 GetHashCode (); System.Type GetType (); // and here } What is this? I have not been able to reproduce this with C# and it causes trouble for Cola as it thinks GetType() is a redefinition, since the signature is identical.   • xsd.exe creating invalid constraints in dataset from xsd file

    I have a sequence with an allowed minimum length of zero in my xsd. When I try and load an xml file which doesn't have any elements of the sequence into the DataSet that xsd.exe created I get an exception indicating that my file violated one of the DataSet's constraints. The xml file validates against the schema so I know it's valid. Is there anything I can do to make the tool generate a valid dataset? <xs:sequence minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded"> <xs:element name="Numbers" type="xs:double"/> </xs:sequence> Edit: if I change my schema to this the generated code works properly.   • IEnumerable.Cast not calling cast overload

    I'm not understanding something about the way .Cast works. I have an explicit (though implicit also fails) cast defined which seems to work when I use it "regularly", but not when I try to use .Cast. Why?   • Display pdf file inline in Rails app

    Hi, I have a pdf file attachment saved in the cloud. The file is attached using attachment_fu. All I do to display it in the view is: <%= image_tag @model.pdf_attachment.public_filename %> When I load the page with this code in the browser, it does what I want: it displays the attached pdf file. But only on Mac. On Windows, browsers will display a broken image placeholder. Chrome's Developer Tools report: "Resource interpreted as image but transferred with MIME type application/pdf." I also tried sending the file from controller: in PdfAttachmentController: def send_pdf_attachment pdf_attachment = PdfAttachment.find params[:id] send_file pdf_attachment.public_filename, :type => pdf_attachment.content_type, :file_name => pdf_attachment.filename, :disposition => 'inline' end in routes.rb: map.send_pdf_attachment '/pdf_attachments/send_pdf_attachment/:id', :controller => 'pdf_attachments', :action => 'send_pdf_attachment' and in the view: <%= send_pdf_attachment_path @model.pdf_attachment %> or <%= image_tag( send_pdf_attachment_path @model.pdf_attachment ) %> And that doesn't display the file on Mac (I didn't try on Windows), it displays the path: pdf_attachments/send_pdf_attachment/35 So, my question is: what do I do to properly display a pdf file inline? This app is composed by : A parent project specifying all the modules to build A project generating classes with jaxb and building a jar with them A project building an ejb project 3 projects building war modules 1 project building an ear Here is an extract from my parent pom : <groupId>com.test</groupId> <artifactId>P</artifactId> <packaging>pom</packaging> <version>04.01.00</version> <modules> <module>../PValidationJaxb</module> <-- jar <module>../PValidation</module> <-- ejb <module>../PImport</module> <-- war <module>../PTerminal</module> <-- war <module>../PWebService</module> <-- war <module>../PEAR</module> <-- ear </modules> I have several problems which I think have the same origin, probably a dependency management issue that I cannot figure out : The generated modules are different depending on if I build from the parent pom or a single module. Typically if I build PImport only, the generated war is similar to what I had with my ant build and if I build from the parent pom, my war took 20MB, a lot of dependencies from other modules had been added. Both wars are running well. My project PWebService has unit tests to be executed during the build. It is using mock-ejb which has cglib as dependency. Having a problem of ClassNotFound with this one, I had to exclude it and add a dependency to cglib-nodep (see last pom extract). If I then build only this module, it is working well. But if I build from the parent project, it fails because other dependencies in other modules also had an implicit dependency on cglib. I had to exclude it in every modules pom and add the dependency to cglib-nodep everywhere to make it run. Do I miss something important in my configuration ?   • LinqToSql Select to a class then do more queries

    I have a LINQ query running with multiple joins and I want to pass it around as an IQueryable<T> and apply additional filters in other methods. The problem is that I can't work out how to pass around a var data type and keep it strongly typed, and if I try to put it in my own class (EG: .Select((a,b) => new MyClass(a,b))) I get errors when I try to add later Where clauses because my class has no translations into SQL. Is there any way I can do one of the following: Make my class map to SQL? Make the var data-type implement an interface (So I can pass it round as though it's that)? Something I haven't though of that'll solve my issue?     Hi, I have a submission form on my website (index.php) and I have the data(user submissions) being stored into a MySQL database. Right now, I have the user submitting a post and then the page directs them to an update.php which shows what they inputed. However, I want all of the data in the database in MySQL to be shown on the index.php. It's a lot like a comment system. User submits a post... and sees their post above the other submitted posts all on the same page. I think I'm missing AJAX... ?   • How to functionally generate a tree breadth-first. (With Haskell)

    Say I have the following Haskell tree type, where "State" is a simple wrapper: data Tree a = Branch (State a) [Tree a] | Leaf (State a) deriving (Eq, Show) I also have a function "expand :: Tree a - Tree a" which takes a leaf node, and expands it into a branch, or takes a branch and returns it unaltered. This tree type represents an N-ary search-tree. Searching depth-first is a waste, as the search-space is obviously infinite, as I can easily keep on expanding the search-space with the use of expand on all the tree's leaf nodes, and the chances of accidentally missing the goal-state is huge... thus the only solution is a breadth-first search, implemented pretty decent over here, which will find the solution if it's there. What I want to generate, though, is the tree traversed up to finding the solution. This is a problem because I only know how to do this depth-first, which could be done by simply called the "expand" function again and again upon the first child node... until a goal-state is found. (This would really not generate anything other then a really uncomfortable list.) Could anyone give me any hints on how to do this (or an entire algorithm), or a verdict on whether or not it's possible with a decent complexity? (Or any sources on this, because I found rather few.)

    Hi ! Let's get directly to the problem : I'm actually doing a firefox extension in which i would like to implement the jWebsocket API in order to build a small chat. I got my main script file, named test.js, and the jWebsocket lib into a js folder. Just for you to know, this is my first firefox extension ever. So in my XUL file I got this (for the script part only of course, the interface code is not shown) : <overlay id="test-overlay" xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"> <script type="application/x-javascript" src="chrome://test/content/test.js" /> <script type="application/x-javascript" src="chrome://test/content/js/jwebsocket.js" /> jwebsocket.js being the file I need to call according to jWebsocket website. In my main script file test.js I start with : if (jws.browserSupportsWebSockets()) { jWebSocketClient = new jws.jWebSocketJSONClient(); } else { var lMsg = jws.MSG_WS_NOT_SUPPORTED; alert(lMsg); } jws being the namespace created into the jwebsocket.js file. Of course I've got the required stand-alone server running in background, and working. So from what I understood looking on various websites, is that if a js file is loaded into the javascript allocated memory space (with the tag), all namespace/function should be available between each file. But this was mostly for HTML-oriented issues, so I'm not sure if it applies to XUL/Firefox environment. But the script keep failing at the first jws call. Any ideas on what goes wrong here ? I'm stuck for 2 days now :/

  • SQL Server - stored procedure suddenly become slow

    I have written a stored procedure that, yesterday, typically completed in under a second. Today, it takes about 18 seconds. I ran into the problem yesterday as well, and it seemed to be solved by DROPing and re-CREATEing the stored procedure. Today, that trick doesn't appear to be working. :( Interestingly, if I copy the body of the stored procedure and execute it as a straightforward query it completes quickly. It seems to be the fact that it's a stored procedure that's slowing it down...! Does anyone know what the problem might be? I've searched for answers, but often they recommend running it through Query Analyser, but I don't have have it - I'm using SQL Server 2008 Express for now.   • Are there pitfalls to using static class/event as an application message bus

    I have a static generic class that helps me move events around with very little overhead: public static class MessageBus<T> where T : EventArgs { public static event EventHandler<T> MessageReceived; public static void SendMessage(object sender, T message) { if (MessageReceived != null) MessageReceived(sender, message); } } To create a system-wide message bus, I simply need to define an EventArgs class to pass around any arbitrary bits of information: class MyEventArgs : EventArgs { public string Message { get; set; } } Anywhere I'm interested in this event, I just wire up a handler: MessageBus<MyEventArgs>.MessageReceived += (s,e) => DoSomething(); Likewise, triggering the event is just as easy: MessageBus<MyEventArgs>.SendMessage(this, new MyEventArgs() {Message="hi mom"}); Using MessageBus and a custom EventArgs class lets me have an application wide message sink for a specific type of message. This comes in handy when you have several forms that, for example, display customer information and maybe a couple forms that update that information. None of the forms know about each other and none of them need to be wired to a static "super class". I have a couple questions: fxCop complains about using static methods with generics, but this is exactly what I'm after here. I want there to be exactly one MessageBus for each type of message handled. Using a static with a generic saves me from writing all the code that would maintain the list of MessageBus objects. Are the listening objects being kept "alive" via the MessageReceived event? For instance, perhaps I have this code in a Form.Load event: MessageBus<CustomerChangedEventArgs>.MessageReceived += (s,e) => DoReload(); When the Form is Closed, is the Form being retained in memory because MessageReceived has a reference to its DoReload method? Should I be removing the reference when the form closes: MessageBus<CustomerChangedEventArgs>.MessageReceived -= (s,e) => DoReload();
