  Hello, I'm using DCMTK library for reading Dicom files (Image format used in medical image processing.) I'm having a problem in compiling this DCMTK source code. DCMTK uses some additional external libraries (zlib, tiff, libpng, libxml2, libiconv). I know that all libraries should be generated with same Code Generation Options. I've downloaded the compiled versions of these support libraries which are compiled with "Multithreaded DLL" runtime options (/MD). In each project of DCMTK source code I ensured that runtime options are "Multithreaded DLL" (/MD). • Red Hat Yum not working out of the box?

  I have a server runnning Red Hat Enterprise Linux v5.6 in the cloud. My project constraints do not allow me to use another OS. When I created the cloud server, I was able to SSH into it and access the shell. I next ran the command: sudo yum update But the command failed. About a month ago I created another server with the same machine image and didn't have that error. Why is it failing now? • Rsync: how to mount truecrypt on-the-fly on the receiving side?

  The short version: how can I keep an rsync backup on a truecrypt volume? The hard part is to mount/unmount this volume on the fly when it is needed for rsync. Details This is my current backup configuration (which works fairly well for the most part): backup source is on Win7 64 bit, destination is a remote Linux box (Debian) actual data transfer is done by rsync via ssh (cwRsync with cygwin) rsync daemon is started on demand via ssh On the Linux box the backup is protected by file permissions only. I want to increase security here and put the backup into a truecrypt volume. I can fuse-mount that volume manually in the shell. The question is now how can I make rsync not only open an ssh connection and starting the rsync daemon, but also to mount the truecrypt volume before (and unmount it after)? My money is on option --rsync-path which can be used to pass a command line to ssh - provided that stdin and stdout still work the same. I guess that command would have to be a shell script. Is this possible, and what would the script look like? For reference, here's a quote of that option: --rsync-path=PROGRAM Use this to specify what program is to be run on the remote machine to start-up rsync. Often used when rsync is not in the default remote-shell's path (e.g. --rsync-path=/usr/local/bin/rsync). Note that PROGRAM is run with the help of a shell, so it can be any program, script, or command sequence you'd care to run, so long as it does not corrupt the standard-in & standard-out that rsync is using to communicate. One tricky example is to set a different default directory on the remote machine for use with the --relative option. Turns out this option is actually key to auto-mounting the truecrypt volume on the remote side. Not sure if the following makes sense to anyone but I give it a try... Right now I am unmounting (truecrypt -d), then mounting again, then continuing with rsync. At this time rsync needs to do its thing but I dont know when its done. Adding ... rsync && truecrypt -d to the command line does not work because then the rsync daemon does not start. This is because rsync starts the daemon with parameter --server on the remote side and that parameter would go to the final truecrypt -d.

• ubuntu wifi disconnection & frustratingly connects to unavailable wifi

  Hi, i have already posted this here: here This has happened before with ubuntu 9.1 Beta2 build too that my wifi disconnects if im idle for 5 minutes... so i cant leave my lappy to download anything... i have to keep on continuously using it.. as soon i leave it idle for abt 5 minutes... wifi disconnects... and the pop up asking for password for wifi pops up...with the password already filled in... i just click on connect and it connects again... so whats the use of asking the password if the pre filled in pass works correctly... and this is happening on ubuntu 10.04 Beta2 too... and the workaround is that just open any menu like the applications menu in the taskbar and keep it open... under this state the ubuntu idleness never activates and so the wifi gets never disconnected... this has been confirmed by me many times.. this seems to be repeating again and again... i dont know why... and the second thing i want to report is that there is no way to report this bug from ubuntu... the launchpad.net talks of going through bug reporting process which is done against a definite package... now how does a user know which package would be causing this error?? there should be a more clear process of reporting such bugs to ubuntu team... thirdly the apport utility that reports crashing apps is totally uselss on 10.04 beta 2... as it collests information and reports that i cant submit the report because i dont have 100 other packages... without updating which i cant submit the report.... surely on a beta build there would be packages continuously being updated... so no system would be reported as fully updated... and so no practical apport reporting is possible?? please address these issues... really frustrating all this ... im a big fan of ubuntu but these things really bug me... and just to add fourthly... the suspend/hibernate feature has never ever worked on my toshiba m70-113 laptop... on any ubuntu version... always have to hard reboot after putting into suspend/hibernate mode.. on windows this has never been the case... why cant ubuntu beat windows in such cases too?? i would really like to see this soon... most importantly, when the router switches off... the wifi signals go off... then why the hell ubuntu keeps on connecting to that very wifi like hell and when doesnt connect shows the prompt to manually connect... with the wifi key already filled in... whats the use of saving the key when it has to ask the question from me either to connect or not?? and if its isnt available... just wait when its available.. i have only option to cancel and if i cancel it wont auto-connect!! what the heck?? one can see in the image that it says "authentication required by wireless network" when there isnt any.. as router has gone down!!

• Managing access to multiple linux system

  A searched for answers but have found nothing on here... Long story short: a non-profit organization is in dire need of modernizing its infrastructure. First thing is to find an alternatives to managing user accounts on a number of Linux hosts. We have 12 servers (both physical and virtual) and about 50 workstations. We have 500 potential users for these systems. The individual who built and maintained the systems over the years has retired. He wrote his own scripts to manage it all. It still works. No complaints there. However, a lot of the stuff is very manual and error-prone. Code is messy and after updates often needs to be tweaked. Worst part is there is little to no docs written. There are just a few ReadMe's and random notes which may or may not be relevant anymore. So maintenance has become a difficult task. Currently accounts are managed via /etc/passwd on each system. Updates are distributed via cron scripts to correct systems as accounts are added on the "main" server. Some users have to have access to all systems (like a sysadmin account), others need access to shared servers, while others may need access to workstations or only a subset of those. Is there a tool that can help us manage accounts that meets the following requirements? Preferably open source (i.e. free as budget is VERY limited) mainstream (i.e. maintained) preferably has LDAP integration or could be made to interface with LDAP or AD service for user authentication (will be needed in the near future to integrate accounts with other offices) user management (adding, expiring, removing, lockout, etc) allows to manage what systems (or group of systems) each user has access to - not all users are allowed on all systems support for user accounts that could have different homedirs and mounts available depending on what system they are logged into. For example sysadmin logged into "main" server has main://home/sysadmin/ as homedir and has all shared mounts sysadmin logged into staff workstations would have nas://user/s/sysadmin as homedir(different from above) and potentially limited set of mounts, a logged in client would have his/her homedir at different location and no shared mounts. If there is an easy management interface that would be awesome. And if this tool is cross-platform (Linux / MacOS / *nix), that will be a miracle! I have searched the web and so have found nothing suitable. We are open to any suggestions. Thank you. EDIT: This question has been incorrectly marked as a duplicate. • I want to change DPI with Imagemagick without changing the actual byte-size of the image data

  I feel so horribly sorry that I have to ask this question here, but after hours of researching how to do an actually very simple task I'm still failing... In Gimp there is a very simple way to do what I want. I only have the German dialog installed but I'll try to translate it. I'm talking about going to "Picture-PrintingSize" and then adjusting the Values "X-Resolution" and "Y-Resolution" which are known to me as so called DPI values. You can also choose the format which by default is "Pixel/Inch". (In German the dialog is "Bild-Druckgröße" and there "X-Auflösung" and "Y-Auflösung") Ok, the values there are often "72" by default. When I change them to e.g. "300" this has the effect that the image stays the same on the computer, but if I print it, it will be smaller if you look at it, but all the details are still there, just smaller - it has a higher resolution on the printed paper (but smaller size... which is fine for me). I am often doing that when I am working with LaTeX, or to be exact with the command "pdflatex" on a recent Ubuntu-Machine. When I'm doing the above process with Gimp manually everything works just fine. The images will appear smaller in the resulting PDF but with high printing quality. What I am trying to do is to automate the process of going into Gimp and adjusting the DPI values. Since Imagemagick is known to be superb and I used it for many other tasks I tried to achieve my goal with this tool. But it does just not do what I want. After trying a lot of things I think this actually is be the command that should be my friend: convert input.png -density 300 output.png This should set the DPI to 300, as I can read everywhere in the web. It seems to work. When I check the file it stays the same. file input.png output.png input.png: PNG image data, 611 x 453, 8-bit grayscale, non-interlaced output.png: PNG image data, 611 x 453, 8-bit grayscale, non-interlaced When I use this command, it seems like it did what I wanted: identify -verbose output.png | grep 300 Resolution: 300x300 PNG:pHYs : x_res=300, y_res=300, units=0 (Funny enough, the same output comes for input.png which confuses me... so this might be the wrong parameters to watch?) But when I now render my TeX with "pdflatex" the image is still big and blurry. Also when I open the image with Gimp again the DPI values are set to "72" instead of "300". So there actually was no effect at all. Now what is the problem here. Am I getting something completely wrong? I can't be that wrong since everything works just fine with Gimp... Thanks for any help in this. I am also open to other automated solutions which are easily done on a Linux system...

• MySQL my.cnf file not being read, Ubuntu 10.04 64bit

  I've been researching this for a few hours with no luck. Basically it looks like my server's my.cnf file isn't being read at all. I've searched my server, and there's only one my.cnf file on it, located at /etc/mysql/my.cnf. Its ownership is root:root. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit on a Linode.com server. I have the latest versions of MySQL and PHP installed. I've edited the my.cnf file, commented out "skip-innodb", and have set innodb to be the default storage engine using default-storage-engine = innodb And then restarted mysql. But when I do show engines, MyISAM is still coming up as the default engine. Also - none of the innodb settings I've added to the my.cnf file are being read. For example, I have this in my.cnf: innodb_buffer_pool_size=4G But in phpmyadmin, InnoDB is showing as having a buffer pool size of 8,192 KiB. Similarly, I have this in the my.cnf: innodb_data-file_path = ibdata1:500M:autoextend But in phpmyadmin, it's reading as ibdata1:10M:autoextend. It doesn't look like MyISAM info is being read from the my.cnf file either. The my.cnf file has skip-external-locking queried out, but it's showing as "on" in phpmyadmin. So - yeah, it looks like nothing in the my.cnf file is being read at all. But the server still works. I'm running a Drupal site on it and it seems to operate fine. So mysql seems to be drawing default settings from... some mysterious secret location. Any idea how I can make mysql see and use this my.cnf file? Actually, wait - it looks like it may be being read, not sure. I checked the error.log and found this: 101128 4:28:52 [ERROR] Cannot find or open table databasename/cache_apachesolr from the internal data dictionary of InnoDB though the .frm file for the table exists.   Is there a way to untar a file with multiple tars inside? It's suppose to just untar everything inside including untarring the tars inside the tar... With windows it does it, quite annoying I can't figure it out on linux... • Lag spikes at full CPU usage, lagy mouse, maybe video card

  My PC specs: Motherboard Name - Gigabyte GA-945PL-S3 CPU Type - DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo E4300, 1800 MHz (9 x 200) OS - Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate OS Kernel Type - 32-bit OS Version - 6.1.7601 I bougth a new video card one month ago. GeForce 210. I didn't have any problems. I wanted to overclock it, in other words: "Play with it". So I installed Gigabyte EasyBoost from CD and overclocked the GPU 590 + 110 mhz, memory to max to 960mhz from 800mhz. Benchmarks showed a little bit bigger score. Then I overclocked shader clock from 1405 to [..] (don't remeber really). So I was playing Modern Warfare 2 when off sudden computer froze when I wanted to select team, I was afk before that. I had to reset CMOS. After that I had problems with Skype: unread messages and no sound. Then I figured it out that when ever I open EasyBoost - Skype starts to glitch again. Now I use EVGA Precission X. Now after a month, I cleaned computer and closed the case, it was open all the time. I started to overclock GPU clock only (just a bit) because there was no problems that would stop me. So sometimes on heavy CPU load graphics starts to lag. Dragging a window is painful to watch too. Sometimes the screen freezes for 5 to 10 seconds (I can see that hard disk activity is maximal). You may say that CPU fault it is, isn't it? But sometimes lag spikes starts randomly when CPU load is at maximum. All 3 benchmark softwares (PerformanceTest, NovaBench and MSI Kombustor) shows that performance of my video card has dropped about 25%. BUT! CPU score is lower too. I ignored these problems but when I refreshed Windows Experience Index I was shocked. Month before (in latvian language but not so hard to understand): Now 01.04.2012 (upgraded RAM): This happened when I tried to capture Minecraft with Fraps on underclocked GPU to 580mhz (def: 590mhz): All drivers are up to date. Average CPU temperature from 55°C to 75°C (at 70°C sometimes starts these lag spikes). Video card's tempratures are from 45°C to 60°C (very hard to reach 60°C). So my hope is that the video card is fine, cause this card is very new and I want to upgrade CPU anyways. Aplogies for my mistakes in vocabulary (I am trying to type this as fast I can). Update 02.04.2012 - 7:21 Forgot one thing, my hard disk is extrimly slow and I will upgrade it this week or next week so I will be installing same OS again. I am multi-tasker but I can't do much because of 1.8 GHz CPU and slow hard drive (Model ID - WDC WD800JD-60JRC0). The Windows Experience Index is back to normal. Actually "Spelu grafika" (Gaming graphics) are higher than month ago. During this test mouse was very lagy, but month ago there weren't any problems. WHY!?

• Prevent auto mounting Android sdcard under Linux Mint

  I recently obtained an older Android phone, so that I could test Android Apps on it. I've needed it because I have a Nexus 7 but not older Android versions, hardware, etc. to test on. I'm having a problem with it under Linux Mint with Cinnamon. When I plug the phone in, or remove and plug the sdcard from the phone back to it while the phone is plugged in, Linux automatically mounts the sdcard. This is a problem because once it is mounted under Linux, it dismounts from the phone running Android 2.3.5, and I can no longer test Android Apps I write that require the sdcard to be present, writable. I went to Menu System Tools System Settings System Details Removable Media, and it brings up this window. I have changed the settings to always "Ask what to do" on "Select how media should be handled". However, the sdcard still gets mounted and then I am asked how I want to open these files (media players, photo importers, file browser, etc.). If I click the checkbox for "Never prompt or start programs on media insertion", then the sdcard is mounted, and I am not asked how to open these files. Eject is just a noob word for Ubuntu users that means umount (unmount) like "Adminstrator" is another ubuntu noob word for the root user. And if I unmount the sdcard, the phone doesn't recognize it again until I take the sdcard out and plug it back in. The phone sees it for a brief moment until Linux Mint takes it over. There are 2 possible solutions and maybe more: 1) Prevent Linux from automounting sdcards some how 2) Tell Android not to allow the computer it is plugged into to take over the sdcard, HOW? • Have I pushed the limits of my current VPS or is there room for optimization?

  I am currently on a mediatemple DV server (basic) 512mb dedicated ram, this is a CentOS based VPS with Plesk and Virtuozzo. My experience with it from day 1 has been bad and I only could sooth my server issues with several caching "Band-aids," but my sites are not as small as they were a year ago either so the issues have worsen. I have 3 Drupal installs running on separate (plesk) domains, 1 of those drupal installs is a multisite, that consists of 5-6 sites 2 of those sites are bringing in actual traffic. Those caching "Band-aids" I mentioned are APC, which seemed to help alot initially, and Drupal's Boost, which is considered a poorman's Varnish, it makes all my pages static for anonymous users. Last 30day combined estimate on Google Ananlytics: 90k visitors 260k pageviews. Issue: alot of downtime, I am continually checking if my sites are up, and lately I have been finding it down more than 3 times daily. Restarting Apache will bring it back up, for some time. I have google search every error message and looked up ways to optimize my DV server, and I am beyond stump what is my next move. • Chrome does not re-draw properly on Windows 8

  There are a lot of problems with Chrome (24.0.1312.14 beta || But all this happened before update also) on Windows 8. Problems and explanations are listed below: Google Chrome re-draw time: When I switch tabs, the window retains the content of the previous tab and displays that even if I move my mouse, if only refreshes (re-draws) when there is a change on the webpage (like on hover) or I do a select all (or scroll). One thing to note is that the hover and select happens on the real page and not the retained image-like thing of the older webpage. Chrome is slow and laggy: Websites such as Facebook and Twitter (and more) have gone extremely laggy on Chrome (Win 8). When I was using Windows 7, I never experienced a lag or something. Also when using HTML-5 Websites, the transition (the -webkit-transition in CSS) goes extremely slow at times. Plugins Crash: Plugins like Flash Player, Shockwave Player, and more that are in-built into Chrome Crashes a lot, even when doing simple tasks like playing YouTube Videos, displaying ads or something. Chrome Crashes: Chrome has crashed over 100 times in the past month. Google Chrome just crashes randomly or I don't know the reason. Random Page crashes: Chrome results chrome://crash/(Copy-Paste this in address bar) on random pages even when the page is just loaded, I understand that this can happen on heavy HTML5 or JS websites but what about HTML only websites? Computer Freeze: Chrome sometimes, randomly, freezes my computer. Freeze in the sense, none of the other apps are also working. It's like the whole system freezes, I can not even switch to other apps. I am sure that this is because of Chrome since this happens only when Chrome is active. Most of the things above happens on Super User also, Super User never had any problem when using Chrome on Windows 7. UPDATE 1: @magicandre1981 Commented for trying to disable Hardware Acceleration. I tried it, it somewhat solved the problem but din't fix it. I am still experiencing all the above issues but less frequently (maybe because Chrome Restarted Completely) UPDATE 2: @avirk asked me to try a Stable Version of Chrome and Firefox, I din't experience any lag in Firefox, a little (negligible) lag in Chrome 22 (Maybe because its a new copy of Chrome, I haven't used it much). UPDATE 3: @NothingsImpossible said that He is also experiencing the same problem on Windows Server 2008! This seams to be a major issue now. He also said that GPU load is also high at the same time! Even I saw the same thing. UPDATE 4: Recently, Chrome updated to v24 Stable (I am using stable from a long time now). I was experiencing this problem a lot less in Chrome 23, but this is back in Chrome 24. Seams like Chrome 24 is the most affected from this bug, as this same problem was high in Chrome 24 beta also. UPDATE 5: Chrome was updated to v25 Stable. This problem is 99% Gone, it is still there in 1% of the cases. One such example is when I leave chrome inactive for a while with a few tabs open, the tabs go black and no activity can get them back to active state. If I open a new tab, the new tab is OK but the others are still black, I need to close all those tabs. UPDATE 6: Chrome updated to v27 Stable channel, this problem is nearly gone. This does happen occasionally, but not as frequent as in earlier versions of Chrome. UPDATE 7: I am on Chrome v35.0.1916.114 Stable, Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1. Some of the other problems appears to be back. Chrome is slow and laggy again. Re-draw time is getting worse. Is anybody else experiencing such issues? Does anybody have a solution to any of these?

Another supporter suggested that I should send an MD5 hash of my password, rather than a plain password. • MySQL Memory usage

  Our MySQL server seems to be using a lot of memory. I've tried looking for slow queries and queries with no index and have halved the peak CPU usage and Apache memory usage but the MySQL memory stays constantly at 2.2GB (~51% of available memory on the server). Here's the graph from Plesk. Running top in the SSH window shows the same figures. Does anyone have any ideas on why the memory usage is constant like this and not peaks and troughs with usage of the app?   In the log file of apache (access.log) I find log entries like the following: 10.20.30.40 - - [18/Mar/2011:02:12:44 +0200] "GET /index.php HTTP/1.1" 404 505 "-" "Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; U; en) Presto/2.7.62 Version/11.01" Whose meaning is clear: The client with IP 10.20.30.40 applied a GET HTTP method on /index.php (that is to say http://mysite.org/index.php) receiving a status code 404 using Opera as client/browser. What I don't understand is entries like the following: 174.34.231.19 - - [18/Mar/2011:02:24:56 +0200] "GET http://www.siasatema.com HTTP/1.1" 200 469 "-" "Python-urllib/2.4" So here what I see is that someone (client with IP 174.34.231.19) accessed http://www.siasatema.com and got a 200 HTTP status code(?). It doesn't make sense to me... the only interpretation I can think of is that my apache server acts like proxy! Could someone explain to may what is going on and how to cope with this situation? Update 1: I disabled mod_proxy to make sure that I don't have an open proxy: # a2dismod proxy Where from I got the message: Module proxy already disabled I made sure that there is no file proxy.conf under $APACHE/mods-enabled. Finally, I set on my browser (Mozzila) my IP as a proxy and tried to access http://google.com. I was not redirected to google.com but instead my web page appeared. The same happened with trying to access http://a.b (!). So my server does not really work as a proxy since it does not forward the requests... But I think it would be better if somehow I could configure it to return a status code 403. • nginx server over https using up all available file handles (upd: infinite loop?)

  Hi all, So I have an nginx server that's working over https with Sinatra. When I try to download a jnlp file in a configuration that works fine over Mongrel and http (no s), the nginx server fails to serve the file with a 504 error. Subsequent checking of the logs states that this error is due to overflowing the available number of file handles, ie, "24: too many open files". EDIT: I have since upgraded to passenger 2.2.14, ruby 1.9.1, nginx 0.8.40, openssl 1.0.0a, and no change. EDIT: The culprit appears to be infinite redirects due to using SSL. I don't know how to fix this, other than hosting the jnlp file in the root directory of the server (which I'd rather not do, since it limits me to one jnlp-based app at a time). Second, again, moving the jnlp into root avoided the problem, because there wasn't any of this proxying due to ssl. So, how can I avoid the infinite proxy_pass loop in nginx?

  A friend is running a VPS (CentOS) His business partner was the sysadmin but has left him high and dry to look after the system. So, I've been asked to help out in fixing an apparent spam problem. His IP address got blacklisted for unsolicited mail. I'm not sure where to look for a problem, but I started with netstat to see what open connections were running. It looks to me like he has remote hosts connected to his SMTP server. • Cisco 678 Will Not Work using PPPoE - Possibly Because I Configured it Incorrectly..?

  I am attempting to configure a Cisco 678 because I am totally sick on my Actiontec. However, I am running into some problems. It seems as though the Cisco is able to train the line, but I am unable to ping out. I am all right at programming, but still learning a lot when it comes to being a system administrator. I apologize in advance if I did something ridiculous, or am attempting to configure this device to do something it was not designed to do. • Wear and tear on server hard drive from filesystem polling by PHP script

  So I'm working on a discussion platform, and various clients will visit http://host/thread.php, which will render the discussion thread to date in addition to a form to submit a new post. When a new post is submitted, I would like all of the other clients with browser windows open to have it appear in near-real-time. One of the constraints of my script is that it may not use a DBMS and it must stay in the filesystem. Additionally, I can't use any PECL/PEAR extensions like inotify or anything like that for IPC. The flow will look like this: Client A requests thread.php and the thread is so far empty, but nonetheless it opens a Server-Side Event at eventPusher.php. Client B does the same. Client A fills out a post in the form and and submits (POSTs) it to subHandler.php. ??? (subHandler stores the new submission into the main thread storefile which gets read from when a fresh, new client requests thread.php, in addition to somehow signalling to the continually-running eventPusher event-source that a new comment was posted and that it should echo the event-json to the client. How, exactly, it will send this signal I'm yet unsure of, but there are a few options that I've thought of -- this is the crux of the question, so see below for more clarification) eventPusher.php happily pushes the new event to the client and it shows up soon after it was originally submitted on all clients who have the page open's screens. Now for the #4 missing-link mystery-step, I see a few problems. I mean, either way, eventPusher is gonna be doing a while loop of some sort -- it's gonna be polling something, I think that much is clear. (If that's a bad assumption please do let me know.) Now, the simplest way would be subHandler gets invoked on the form submission, writes it to the main store in addition to newComments.xml, then exits without doing anything else. Then eventPusher checks in newComments.xml every X seconds (by the way, what would be a reasonable time interval here?) and if it finds something then it emits an event to the client. Now, my fear with this is that the server's hard drive will have to constantly start spinning up. Maybe this isn't the case, perhaps it would just get cached in RAM and the linux kernel would take care of this transparently such that filesystem access doesn't actually engage the device because the kernel knows that that particular file hasn't changed since last read. * idea #2: I have no idea how to go about this, but perhaps there is a variable scope that gets stored in general RAM on the system which can be read by any process. Like if we mega-exported a bash variable so that $new_post is normally false but it gets toggled to true by subHandler, and then back to flase once it's pushed to the client. I doubt there's such a variable scope in PHP directly, but I struggle with the concept of variable scope, I just can't seem to understand it no matter what I read on it. * idea #3: eventPusher queries ps in its whileloop for another instance of itself. If there's not another eventPusher active then it's highly unlikely that new comments will be getting submitted. It's okay if this only works =90% of the time, it doesn't need to be completely foolproof. * idea #4: eventPusher queries DMESG to see if that file's been written to recently. So to sum everything up, I need to have inter-php-script-communication in near-real-time that will work on a standard mod_php shared hosting setup without any elevated privileges, PHP addon modules, or other system adjustments that can't be done from the PHP script itself at runtime. With*out* spinning up the drive more than a few times. No SQL servers either. Apologies if my english isn't the best, I'm still trying to improve on it.

• ubuntu mount iso but some files are unreadable

  I'm new to Linux and just installed ubuntu 12.04 amd64 this month. I had failed installing Texlive with texlive2012 iso image. I used the recommended command to mount: "mount -t iso9660 -o ro,loop,noauto /your/texlive2012.iso /mnt " But the installer failed to read some file. The iso is fine, I checked the md5. I extracted everything from iso with archive manager, and it installed successfully. So, why mount is not working? Thanks. UPDATE with furius iso mount tool, mount with Fuse, and it installed, with warning: Summary of warning messages during installation: Downloaded ./archive/calligra-type1.tar.xz, size equal, but md5sum differs; downloading again. While mount with Loop, it failed to install. I can open it with archive manager and all files are good. But after mounting it, even archive manager failed to open some files (which can be opened when the iso is opened in archive manager).
