• Reinstall default apps on Galaxy S3 before updating to Jelly Bean [migrated]

  I want to update my Galaxy S3 to Jelly Bean but after downloading the firmware using Kies, it starts updating, but then it stops with a "dead" Android with a red triangle icon. I think it's because I have removed some default apps like ChatOn and Yahoo widgets. Is there any way to get them back or to install the official Jelly Bean update without a factory reset? I don't want to reinstall my apps again and lose my settings each time I need to update the OS (I also don't want bloatware apps that are pre-installed). Any ideas?

  When I log into Windows 7 I need to wait 10 seconds and then disable the Local Area Connection (ethernet adaptor) and then reenable it. I have looked through the suggested answer: Enable/disable wireless interface in a bat file but that seems irrelevant as it just toggles the current state. From what I can tell I need to include: netsh interface set interface "Local Area Connection" DISABLED netsh interface set interface "Local Area Connection" ENABLED but I'm unsure of the wait time or how I can have this start after Windows has successfully logged in. What's the best approach here?

  A question concerning the possibility to run Photoshop as VM without violating the licence agreement (EULA) : My Adobe Photoshop is bloody slow, nd sometimes I need to launch thousands of image calculations that have to use hundreds of PSD templates. I want to increase my Photoshop calculation power by creating non-persistent virtual machines on my hosted server. Each VMm would only alive for a few seconds, just enough time to deliver the calculated file. Is this a violation of the EULA? I must clarify that I'm the only one to access my non persistent VMs.

  If I am correct to assume that once I place a DVD/disk in my optical drive (or use a USB flash drive or external HDD for that matter; for arguments sake) that this action would in effect trigger an 'event' in Windows. • Sorting Files into Subfolders based on EXIF Date

  I have a huge directory from a HDD recovery that contains 70000+ JPEG files. I tried playing around with some AppleScripts, that I found, but had no luck. I already installed EXIFtool, which might be useful for this task. The current directory structure is as follows: dir001 - file0001.jpg ... - file9999.jpg dir002 - file0001.jpg ... - file9999.jpg ... dir070 - file0001.jpg - ... - file9999.jpg The files mostly have EXIF Data, but sometimes there are Files without metadata. Now I hope to be able to sort and rename these files into folders based on the date: 1999 - 1999 01 31 - 1999_01_31_-_22_59_59.jpg 2000 - 2000 05 20 - 2000_05_20_-_21_59_59.jpg - 2000_05_20_-_22_59_59.jpg I figured Applescript/Automator might come in handy for this, however every other solution would be welcome, too!

  Copy list of file names to text file? I am linking the above page because of its relevance to my question. Is there anything similar that can be done to output a 'plain' looking text file (or xml or csv file) with basically the same data that the following cmd prompt produces: dir > c:\list.txt However only difference I need is the runtime of any and all video files included in the outputted file. Can this easily be done? Please let me know whether this can be done in the python terminal as well since I am familiar with that was well as Microsoft's dos prompt. Thank you so very much.

Its basically change audio to X with Y bitrate, change video to xvid. and do full processing on the video and audio. Then force the FPS to 15 since every program i tried (including virtualdub) thinks it 0.3 FPS. How do i apply all of these settings to all of my files?

• How to auto-update a website mirror with exceptions to certain pages?

  I'm currently mirroring a website on my server. The site itself is rarely updated, but it is updated enough that info can become outdated quickly. I mirrored it first with wget, and this worked fine, but I made some changes: The original index.html used frames, but the site also provides a main.html which is essentially index.html but without frames. I deleted index.html and renamed main.html. I did not want to mirror the webchat, blog or forum, so I deleted those files and directories and made directories "blogs" "forum" and "chat" and placed a php redirect in each of those, redirecting visitors to the orignal site. I'd like to auto-update the mirror (maybe once every 24-72 hours), but preserve the changes I made. Is this possible? How would I go about doing it? I am completely clueless as to how. • Automatic profile load on boot

  Is there any way to configure a computer to login automatically at bootup and then IMMEDIATELY switch users? The purpose is to trigger the profile loading process for the assumed user so that when they go to login, their profile loads instantaneously. Yet, the immediate user switch means that the login password is still required before any actual use. A few of the attempts I have made require storing the password in plain-text for the system to use. Needless to say that is undesireable. I have been looking for this solution for years; if anyone knows of a better solution to skinning this cat I am all ears. EDIT: tsdiscon command will Lock the workstation.

• something strange about Win-XP's command shell

  I wrote the following command in windows XP's command shell and something strange happened: C:\Folder1> copy sample.txt : Because of my typing mistake, I wrote ":" instead of "D:" ... but it copied the sample.txt to somewhere I cant find! I searched my whole HDD for sample.txt but the only instance of this file is the original one which is in C:\Folder1. Do you know where ":" path actually is in Win-XP command shell? You might say ":" is current path and the file has been copied onto itself but look at this: If you run that command for the first time, this will be the result: 1 file copied. but the next time you run that command it will ask you: overwrite sample.txt? (yes/no/all) So if it were writing the file onto itself, both results would have to be the same but they aren't. Thanks in advance for your help.

  There are many plain text files which were encoded in variant charsets. I want to convert them all to UTF-8, but before running iconv, I need to know its original encoding. Most browsers have an Auto Detect option in encodings, however, I can't check those text files one by one because there are too many. Only having known the original encoding, I then can convert the texts by iconv -f DETECTED_CHARSET -t utf-8. Is there any utility to detect the encoding of plain text files? It doesn't have to be a 100% perfect correct, but it should recognize most of them.

• Can a mapped network drive be reconnected from the command line?

  On a daily basis I find myself in the Windows command prompt needing to access a network drive that is mapped but disconnected. I have yet to find a command that will reconnect this drive without unmapping and remapping (which leads to a password guessing game, since I don't own these computers). I would also like to be able to script this so every night the drive is reconnected if it has become disconnected somehow. The fastest solution I currently have is to: Type "start." to open explorer, Alt-D to focus the address bar, type the drive letter I want and press enter, and wait for it to display the drive contents, then finally, close explorer and go back to the command prompt. I know it's a minor inconvenience, but I'm often doing this through a slow VNC or PCAnywhere connection where doing anything through GUI is awful, so I'm just wondering if there's a better solution.

  i'm thinking if does exist some kind of software that can put in a queue a bunch of windows commands... for example i can say to first copy some file somewhere, then rename those, then delete the old files, then edit one of them etc.... without waiting the effective execution of any of those passages.... this could be useful when copying big files that take a lot and i don't want to sit in front of the computer keeping the eyes on the progress bar... does exist anything like this?

I could do this easily on a windows computer, via .bat files (I know how to use .jar files), but, like I said, I only have FTP access, so I don't know exactly what to do. Would this involve a script? Could I just use a .bat file somehow? Or maybe php?

You can run files when the program starts/locks and closes/unlocks. What I would like to do is create a script/bat that changes my desktop background to an image when I click "lock" and another script to change the desktop image when I "unlock". Is there a simple script or BAT file that someone knows of that does this??? or knows how to do this??? I would like to be able to modify it myself so it is the picture I would like to be selected. So all I would do is change the file directory of the image used on the background in the BAT file/script. EDIT: Thank you for the link! It hleped out a bit but I still have one question... • How to loop through all illustrator files in a folder (CS6)

  I have written some JavaScript to save .ai files to two separate locations with different resolutions, one of them being cropped to a reduced size art board. (Courtesy of John Otterud / Articmill for the main part). There are other variables in the script that I am not using at present but I want to leave the functionality there for a later date/additional layers to export/other resolutions etc. I can't get it to loop through all files in a folder. I cannot find the script that works - or insert it at the right place. I can get as far a selecting the folder and I suppose creating an array but after that what next? • Windows 8 Update on Bootcamp

  I currently have Windows 8 Consumer Preview installed on a Mac Bootcamp Partition. Microsoft recently released the Windows 8 Release Preview, and I'd like to upgrade, but I'm worried that upgrading to the Release Preview (while in the Windows 8 partition) will erase my other partitions (ex. the Mac OS X partition). By upgrading from Consumer to Release (using the installer on Microsoft's website) while IN the Windows 8 partition, will it end up re-formating the whole hard drive / erasing partitions / removing Mac OS X? Are there any 100% positive answers out there? Will this work, and if not then how would you suggest updating? Note: I have a Time Machine backup of my Mac, but it isn't the WHOLE Mac.

• iTunes Update 11.0 will not install on my Macbook

  I try to update my iTunes to version 11 but every time I open iTunes after the restart it shows me an error message that states, "An Unknown Error Occurred (-42408)". The same thing happens when I try to install it using the stand alone installer from the apple website. iTunes still opens but remains as version 10.7 (21) and dosent update. I have tried this numerous times and I keep getting the same results. I have also looked all over online but none of them give me a solution that works.
