  • Oracle Linux screen freezes during installation

    I was installing Oracle Linux 6.4 on a server, and the screen suddenly froze. Here were the previous steps: I put in the disk, clicked install, checked the disk (no errors), did pre-install setup (clock, root password, host+domain name, etc.), configured two 40GB hard drives in a RAID1 array (no swap, 3100mb encrypted raid partitions, ~100mb ext4 partition mounting to /boot, encrypted ext4 RAID device with mounting to /), selected packages, hit continue. The system did its short preinstall processes, then when to the main installation screen with the long status bar. The installer proceeded like always, but around package 250 out of ~1000, the screen suddenly went black with a text cursor in the upper left corner of the screen and the mouse cursor in its previous place. Neither cursor moved and the only thing that triggered a response was a ctrl-alt-delete that rebooted it. I have run this in VMs before without this issue. Memtest hasn't reported anything, and the media check went smoothly. The machine has supported Ubuntu server without issues before. Any ideas? I have tried booting after that, but the grub bootloader tries to find fd0 for some reason (I have no idea why it would search for the floppy disk). UPDATE My server successfully installed, but won't boot up. I think that, for some reason, it is still using the old bootloader from the previous installation. Any ideas on how to fix that?

    I'm trying to create a subtotal for a range that excludes rows that don't have a wholesale price. I have a range of products, prices and units that have subtotals by brand, although the brand subtotal is a sum and not a subtotal because the total needs to be displayed regardless of what the user chooses to filter. These subtotal rows do not have wholesale prices. Here is the sumif formula I'm using to calculate totals in the summary area above the range: =SUMIF(B5:B12, "", D5:D12) I need to have a subtotal formula that works the same way. Is there an equivalent to the sumif formula for subtotals? Or maybe a worksheet function I can use? I need to be able to do this without using VBA.

  • Corsair SSD appears completely blank and does not retain written data

    I have a 180GB Corsair SSD (model# CSSD-F180GB2-BRKT) as the primary drive in a Windows laptop. Recently the machine became unbootable after installing Windows updates. Windows installed updates before the machine shut down and the next time the machine boot up it complained about not being able to find a bootable device. After finding fixmbr unsuccessful at making the machine unbootable, I investigated a little within knoppix. Fdisk revealed an empty partition table. A scan by Testdisk came up empty. And finally 'head -c 1024 | hd' reveals all zeros. Creating a primary partition spanning the whole disk completes successfully, but after a reboot the disk appears empty again. dmesg reveals no read or write errors. smartctl indicates that the drive is healthy- although the SMART attribute values do not appear to be read properly. "Data Page | WARNING: PREVIOUS ATTRIBUTE HAS TWO" and "Threshold Page | INCONSISTENT IDENTITIES IN THE DATA" messages appear within the table of values. I don't have much experience with SSDs. Is this drive dead or something? Can anyone recommend any diagnostic tools that may be suited for diagnosing SSDs?

    Good Evening members 1) Recently i have installed the plymouth manager and i accidentally set my resolution to 1024X768-24 which does not fit my laptop exactly and everytime my system reboots an error message shows that error: incorrect settings 1024X768-24. I tried to change the resolution from the system seetings Display but now only this 1024X768 is shown in the drop down. Kindly help me to reset the display properties to default. 2) Additionally plymouth is also not responding when i click on it and i want to uninstall it kindly help me in that too.   • 12.04 login terminal screen only

    So I just went through driver update. The os froze so I had to hard reboot the pc. Now I just get the login promt in terminal. so i try to run startx. codeError: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 304.43 but this NVIDIA driver Component has version 295.49| i just got this error... I have to type sudo su then modprobe ndiswrapper to get my wifi to work, so step by step instructions after that would be greatly helpful

  • How to change screen resolution for installation

    I am trying to install Unity on an old computer with a 1.7 ghz cpu but the installation windows only show the top quarter of the window (so unable to see or select all the prompts in the window). I have tired going to system settings, but because I cannot see all of windows, I cannot change system settings to make the resolution smaller. Is there any way to change the resolution so that I can see the full window so that I can complete the installation?

  • Issues with new graphics card and drivers

    With my onboard graphics card (Intel HD 4000) I was able to use 1680x1050 screen resolution. Using the same screen and an Asus ENGTS250 graphics card with 296.10 drivers installed, I'm not able to use that resolution anymore. Also, I've been having other trouble with driver installations. Using 340.52 or 337.88, I can't boot into Windows 7. I see the Windows Welcome screen and then the screen goes black, loses signal and the computer locks up. I think the drivers issues and the resolution problems go hand-in-hand. I have a feeling I could use a newer driver than 296.10 which would give me access to use the 1680x1050 resolution I want to use, but I'm terrified that if I update or install another driver, that the computer will lock up again. Can anyone recommend a [better] driver for me to use?

    I have an acer widescreen monitor set at 1024x768 running Ubuntu 12.04.4 precise, I have adjusted the resolution to match in display settings however the ubuntu side bar and files are all enlarged. its like it has zoomed in. I have read through all other related posts and cannot come up with a fix. The desktop was fine up until 3 days ago then it changed and I have no idea why, can someone help? Thanks

  • Cannot pass the login screen after upgrade to 12.04 from 11.10

    I just performed the upgrade from Ubuntu 11.10 to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. The updater downloaded all packages but a few ones that the system said were already installed. When asked for it, I chose to install the new maintainer's version of grub. Now after that my system start up to the login page, some images won't load. Moreover, after I try to login, the graphical instance does not load, it just sits there showing the mouse pointer and nothing else.

  • Adding View extending from SurfaceView to layout gives me a blank screen

    I'm very new to Android programming, so this is probably something pretty basic. I just have an xml layout with a few buttons. I'm trying to follow the model given by the JetBoy demo, so I'm adding a view to the layout which extends SurfaceView. When this new view is put in my xml layout, I just get a blank screen. Here's the XML layout if it helps.     Ultrawingrid 9.2 VS2008 .net 3.5 My wingrid uses a bindingsource. All datetimes which are null in SQL Server are delivered to the bindingsource as #1/1/1800# I would like Ultrawingrid to display this date as blank as it would a null from source. Also, if the date is null in the grid ( i.e. blanked out ) I would like to update the data source to the date #1/1/1800# ( the framework takes care of getting that date back into the backend as a null ) This seems like it should be a trivial matter but I can find no documentation on just where to intervene so the grid will see a particular date as a null and save a null as a particular date.     Hi chaps, I'm trying to upload a file to the server using a HTTP multipart form in rails, and for some reason it's turning up blank at the other end.     Say I've a user model and there are bunch of user info, like email, birthdate, location, telephone number etc. What's the simplest way of hiding the attributes that are blank? Other than using partials to render, is there a trick to only show non blank fields? I've been trying to write a helpher method to make the view cleaner, but that's even more ugly. I think all the configuration in Boot is correct, since all LitRules examples (statelessRewrite, dispatch, viewDispatch, snippets) work fine.

  • Suspend not working after kernel update on an HP Envy14 1050

    I just update ubuntu 12.04 to the kernel 3.2.0-30 and together with it a lot of packeges in the system. I am running it on an HP Envy14 1050. When I first made a fresh install of the clean ubuntu 12.04 I had the problem that when restoring from suspend the screen was black, although some backlight was there. I could fix it following this https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/989674/comments/20. Now, after the update the black screen after suspend has reappeared but with no backlight at all and the led in the caps lock key blinking. The laptop is using a ATI radeon 5600 with the privative drivers. During the update process there was an error with depmod . You can see the /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt-term.log file at the end. UPDATE: suspend is not working at all. The problem is not when restoring from suspend, but when I try to suspend the system it gets blocked and the fan running. Only option is to press power button.     I m creating an app that has to display CFUserNotificationDisplayAlert even if iPhone Screen is Locked, currently i am using this code CFOptionFlags responseFlags = 0; CFUserNotificationDisplayAlert(20.0, 3, NULL, NULL, NULL, CFSTR("Hello"), CFSTR("Hello World"), CFSTR("OK"), NULL, NULL, &responseFlags); This works great on Home Screen but doesnt pop up if the screen is locked. Is there anything else i have to add to it to make it appear on the Lock Screen as well?

    I have a Ubuntu Server 11.04 64 bit VM running on VMware Player 3.1.4 that only shows a black screen. No matter what I try, the screen remains black. The VM has worked the first time. When I reset the machine, it shows the VMware loader and a flickering _ for about a second. Then the screen turns black again. VM settings: Memory: 512MB Processors: 1 HD: 20GB CD: auto detect Floppy: auto detect Network adapter: NAT USB controller: present soundcard: auto detect printer: present display: auto detect I just created a fresh VM and the same happens, so it seems that the problem is consistent.
