  • Rails: Single Table Inheritance and models subdirectories

    - by Chris
    I have a card-game application which makes use of Single Table Inheritance. I have a class Card, and a database table cards with column type, and a number of subclasses of Card (including class Foo < Card and class Bar < Card, for the sake of argument). As it happens, Foo is a card from the original printing of the game, which Bar is a card from an expansion. In an attempt to rationalise my models, I have created a directory structure like so: app/ + models/ + card.rb + base_game/ + foo.rb + expansion/ + bar.rb And modified environment.rb to contain: Rails::Initializer.run do |config| config.load_paths += Dir["#{RAILS_ROOT}/app/models/**"] end However, when my reads a card from the database, Rails throws the following exception: ActiveRecord::SubclassNotFound (The single-table inheritance mechanism failed to locate the subclass: 'Foo'. This error is raised because the column 'type' is reserved for storing the class in case of inheritance. Please rename this column if you didn't intend it to be used for storing the inheritance class or overwrite Card.inheritance_column to use another column for that information.) Is it possible to make this work, or am I doomed to a flat directory structure?

  • Paperclip and xhr.sendAsBinary

    - by Denis
    Hi, I use paperclip to add a file to my model. I want to use the new feature of firefox 3.6, xhr.sendAsBinary, to send a file with an ajax request. Here is how I build my request : var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest(); xhr.open("POST", "/photos?authenticity_token=" + token + "&photo[name]=" + img.name + "&photo[size]=" + img.size); xhr.overrideMimeType('text/plain; charset=x-user-defined-binary'); xhr.sendAsBinary(bin); name and size are saved in my model without problem but the file itself is not catched by paperclip. my model class Photo < ActiveRecord::Base has_attached_file :photo, :styles => { :medium => "300x300>", :thumb => "100x100>" } end the migration def self.up add_column :photos, :photo_file_name, :string add_column :photos, :photo_content_type, :string add_column :photos, :photo_file_size, :integer add_column :photos, :photo_updated_at, :datetime end and my controller # POST /photos # POST /photos.xml def create @photo = Photo.new(params[:photo]) respond_to do |format| if @photo.save format.html { redirect_to(@photo, :notice => 'Photo was successfully created.') } format.xml { render :xml => @photo, :status => :created, :location => @photo } else format.html { render :action => "new" } format.xml { render :xml => @photo.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end end Any idea how to solve this issue? Thanks

  • Saving record in Subsonic 3 using Active Record

    - by singfoom
    I'm having trouble saving a record in Subsonic 3 using Active record. I've generated my objects using the DALs and tts and everything seems fine because the following test passes. I think that my connection string is correct or the generation wouldn't have succeeded. [Test] public void TestSavingAnEmail() { Email testEmail = new Email(); testEmail.EmailAddress = "[email protected]"; testEmail.Subscribed = true; testEmail.Save(); Assert.AreEqual(1, Email.All().Count()); } On the live side, the following code fails: protected void btEmailSubmit_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Email email = new Email(); email.EmailAddress = txtEmail.Text; email.Subscribed = chkSubscribe.Checked; email.Save(); } with a message of: Need to specify Values or a Select query to insert - can't go on! at the following line repo.Add(this,provider); line in my ActiveRecord.cs: public void Add(IDataProvider provider){ var key=KeyValue(); if(key==null){ var newKey=_repo.Add(this,provider); this.SetKeyValue(newKey); }else{ _repo.Add(this,provider); } SetIsNew(false); OnSaved(); } Am I doing something horribly wrong here? The save and add methods have parameterless overloads that I thought were safe to use. Do I need to pass a provider? I've googled around for this for a while and was unable to come up with anything specific to my situation. Thanks in advance for any kind of answer.

  • Writing tests for Rails plugins

    - by Adam
    I'm working on a plugin for Rails that would add limited in-memory caching to ActiveRecord's finders. The functionality itself is mature enough, but I can't for the life of me get unit tests to work with the plugin. I now have under vendor/plugins/my_plugin/test/my_plugin_test.rb a standard subclass of ActiveSupport::TestCase with a couple of basic tests. I try running 'rake test' from the plugin directory, and I have confirmed that this task loads the ruby file with the test case, but it doesn't actually run any of the tests. I followed the Rails plugin guide (http://guides.rubyonrails.org/plugins.html) where applicable, but it seems to be horribly outdated (it suggests things that Rails now do automatically, etc.) The only output I get is this: Kakadu:ingenious_record adam$ rake test (in /Users/adam/Sites/1_PRK/vendor/plugins/ingenious_record) /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby -Ilib:lib:test "/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.3/lib/rake/rake_test_loader.rb" "test/ingenious_record_test.rb" The simplest test case looks like this: require 'test_helper' require 'active_record' class IngeniousRecordTest < ActiveSupport::TestCase test "example" do assert false end end This should definitely produce at least some output, and the only test in that file should produce a failed assertion. Any ideas what I could do to get Rails to run my tests?

  • Thinking Sphinx and acts_as_taggable_on plugin

    - by Brian Roisentul
    Hi, I installed Sphinx and Thinking Sphinx for ruby on rails 2.3.2. When I search without conditions search works ok. Now, what I'd like to do is filter by tags, so, as I'm using the acts_as_taggable_on plugin, my Announcement model looks like this: class Announcement < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_taggable_on :tags,:category define_index do indexes title, :as => :title, :sortable => true indexes description, :as => :description, :sortable => true indexes tags.name, :as => :tags indexes category.name, :as => :category has category(:id), :as => :category_ids has tags(:id), :as => :tag_ids end For some reason, when I run the following command, it will bring just one announcement, that has nothing to do with what I expect. I've got many announcements, so I expected a lot of results instead. Announcement.search params[:announcement][:search].to_s, :with => {:tag_ids => 1}, :page => params[:page], :per_page => 10 I guess something is wrong, and it's not searching correctly. Can anyone give my a clue of what's going on? Thanks, Brian

  • Subsonic 3.0.0.4 Does not Update

    - by geocine
    I tried 3 variants but doesn't seem to update (I am using Linq Templates and MSSQL) Luna.Data.GameDBDB db = new Luna.Data.GameDBDB(); db.Update<Luna.Record.TB_ITEM>() .Set(x => x.ITEM_DURABILITY == Convert.ToInt32(quantity)) .Where(x => x.ITEM_DBIDX == Convert.ToInt32(dbdidx)) .Execute(); Here is the other one var db = new Luna.Data.GameDBDB(); var query = (from p in db.TB_ITEMS where p.ITEM_DBIDX == Convert.ToInt32(dbidx) select p).Single(); query.ITEM_DURABILITY = Convert.ToInt32(quantity); db.tp TP_ITEM_UPDATE(); and the other one var db = new Luna.Data.GameDBDB(); var query = (from p in db.TB_ITEMS where p.ITEM_DBIDX == Convert.ToInt32(dbidx) select p).Single(); query.ITEM_DURABILITY = Convert.ToInt32(quantity); db.Update<Luna.Data.TB_ITEM>(); However it worked using LINQ-to-SQL LunaDataContext db = new LunaDataContext(); var query = (from p in db.TB_ITEMs where p.ITEM_DBIDX == Convert.ToInt32(dbidx) select p).Single(); query.ITEM_DURABILITY = Convert.ToInt32(quantity); db.SubmitChanges(); Is this a bug in 3.0.0.4, the database record couldn't be updated using Linq Templates and ActiveRecord.

  • Get paperclip to crop the image without validating

    - by Micke
    Hello fellow stackoverflow members. I have been following this guide to enable users to have their own avatar. But i have bumped in to a litle problem. When the user is cropping the image the model tries to validate all my validations. My user model looks like this: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_attached_file :avatar, :styles => { :small => "100x100>", :large => "500x500>" }, :processors => [:cropper] attr_accessor :password, :crop_x, :crop_y, :crop_w, :crop_h attr_accessible :crop_x, :crop_y, :crop_w, :crop_h validates_confirmation_of :password validates_presence_of :password And when the user runs the crop updating script the user model tries to validate the password. But because i have no password field on the cropping page it can't validate it. Here is the updating of the crop: @user = User.find(current_user.id) if @user.update_attributes(params[:user]) flash[:notice] = "Successfully updated user." end How can i bypass this in a easy and clean way?

  • Rails Nested Forms Attributes not saving if Fields Added with jQuery

    - by looloobs
    Hi I have a rails form with a nested form. I used Ryan Bates nested form with jquery tutorial and I have it working fine as far as adding the new fields dynamically. But when I go to submit the form it does not save any of the associated attributes. However if the partial builds when the form loads it creates the attribute just fine. I can not figure out what is not being passed in the javascript that is failing to communicate that the form object needs to be saved. Any help would be great. class Itinerary < ActiveRecord::Base accepts_nested_attributes_for :trips end itinerary/new.html <% form_for ([@move, @itinerary]), :html => {:class => "new_trip" } do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <%= f.hidden_field :move_id, :value => @move.id %> <% f.fields_for :trips do |builder| %> <%= render "trip", :f => builder %> <% end %> <%= link_to_add_fields "Add Another Leg to Your Trip", f, :trips %> <p><%= f.submit "Submit" %></p> <% end %> application_helper.rb def link_to_remove_fields(name, f) f.hidden_field(:_destroy) + link_to_function(name, "remove_fields(this)") end def link_to_add_fields(name, f, association) new_object = f.object.class.reflect_on_association(association).klass.new fields = f.fields_for(association, new_object, :child_index => "new_#{association}") do |builder| render(association.to_s.singularize, :f => builder) end link_to_function(name, h("add_fields(this, \"#{association}\", \"#{escape_javascript(fields)}\")")) end application.js function add_fields(link, association, content) { var new_id = new Date().getTime(); var regexp = new RegExp("new_" + association, "g") $(link).parent().before(content.replace(regexp, new_id)); }

  • Confused as to which Prototype helper to use

    - by user284194
    After reading http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActionView/Helpers/PrototypeHelper.html I just can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I have a simplistic model that deletes the oldest message after the list of messages reaches 24, the model is this simple: class Message < ActiveRecord::Base after_create :destroy_old_messages protected def destroy_old_messages messages = Message.all(:order => 'updated_at DESC') messages[24..-1].each {|p| p.destroy } if messages.size >= 24 end end There is a message form below the list of messages which is used to add new messages. I'm using Prototype/RJS to add new messages to the top of the list. create.rjs: page.insert_html :top, :messages, :partial => @message page[@message].visual_effect :grow #page[dom_id(@messages)].replace :partial => @message page[:message_form].reset My index.html.erb is very simple: <div id="messages"> <%= render :partial => @messages %> </div> <%= render :partial => "message_form" %> When new messages are added they appear just fine, but when the 24 message limit has been reached it just keeps adding messages and doesn't remove the old ones. Ideally I'd like them to fade out as the new ones are added, but they can just disappear. The commented line in create.rjs actually works, it removes the expired message but I lose the visual effect when adding a new message. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to accomplish adding and removing messages from this simple list with effects for both? Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading. P.S.: would periodically_call_remote be helpful in this situation?

  • Problem running RoR app in production environment

    - by normalocity
    Have an app that has "listings" - think classified ads - and each listing has a list of tags. The following code fails when I run the app in production mode, but works fine under development mode uninitialized constant ActiveRecord::Acts::Taggable::InstanceMethods::TagList Extracted source (around line #45): 42: 43: <span class="listingIndexTags"> 44: Location: [location] | Tags: 45: <% tag_list = listing.tag_list %> 46: <% if tag_list != nil %> 47: <% for tag in tag_list %> 48: <%= link_to tag.to_s, { :action => "filter_on", The command line I'm using to start my mongrel instance in this test case: ruby script/server mongrel -e development Defaults to port 3000. I can access other views in the app that DON'T call "listing.tag_list". ".tag_list" is provided by "acts_as_taggable_on_steroids", which I'm using in this app. It is installed as a gem. • Paperclip wont save image in rails app

    - by Micke
    Hello stackoverflow. I am trying to use Paperclip with my rails app to add an avatar to a user but it wont save my image when creating the user. This is what the model looks like: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_attached_file :avatar And the registerform in haml: - form_for :user, @user, :url => { :action => "signup" }, :html => { :multipart => true } do |f| ... ... %li %div{:class => "header"} Profilepicture %div{:class => "input"} = f.file_field :avatar And when i look in the log this is what is being passet to the "signup" action: Parameters: {"commit"=>"Save", "action"=>"signup", "controller"=>"user/register", "user"=>{"name"=>"Micke Lisinge", "birthmonth"=>"07", "password_confirmation"=>"[FILTERED]", "nickname"=>"lisinge", "avatar"=>#<File:/tmp/RackMultipart20100426-3076-1x04oxy-0>, "gen"=>"m", "birthday"=>"23", "password"=>"[FILTERED]", "birthyear"=>"1992", "email"=>"[email protected]"}} [paperclip] Saving attachments. Paperclip says it is saving the template but when i look in the public folder in my app it has created a system but the system folder is empty. So it seems like it isnt saving the picture to the folder. It gets handled by the form and saved in my /tmp folder. Maybe you guys have any tips or know what this problem might be? Thanks in advance, Micke.

  • Using JSON with jRails

    - by Zachary
    I am currently trying to use AJAX in my application via jRails. I am trying to return a JSON object from my controller, and then parse it in my Javascript. I am using json2.js to do the parsing. Here is the code I currently have: function getSomething() { $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "map/testjson", success: function(data) { var myData = JSON.parse(data[0]); window.alert(myData.login); } }); } and in the controller: class Map::MapController < ApplicationController def index end def testjson @message = User.find(:all) ActiveRecord::Base.include_root_in_json = false respond_to do |w| w.json { render :json => @message.to_json } end end end The window.alert simply says 'undefined' (without tics). However, if I change the javascript to window.alert(data) (the raw object returned by the controller) I get: [{"salt":"aSalt","name":"", "created_at":"2010-03-15T02:34:25Z","remember_token_expires_at": null,"crypted_password":"aPassword", "updated_at":"2010-03-15T02:34:25Z","id":1,"remember_token":null, "login":"zgwrig2","email":"[email protected]"}] This looks like an array of size 1, if I'm looking at it correctly, but I have tried just about every combination of JSON.parse on the data object that I can think of, and nothing seems to work. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong here?

  • Server http://www.myopenid.com/server responds that the 'check_authentication' call is not valid

    - by viatropos
    I've been struggling with this for a few days now, haven't pinpointed the problem. I am trying to get OpenID to work in Rails 2.3 and Rails 3, using ruby-openid rack-openid open_id_authentication I am logging in using my viatropos.myopenid.com account, but it consistently returns this error: Server http://www.myopenid.com/server responds that the 'check_authentication' call is not valid What could that be from, it's not a very descriptive error... Does it have to do with something ruby-specific, or is this entirely on the OpenID protocol side of things? More specifically, I am using Authlogic and ActiveRecord, so could this be a problem with my User or UserSession models somehow? Or is it more to do with the header or request? In ruby response I'm getting (from puts inside ruby-openid) is: #<OpenID::Consumer::FailureResponse:0x25e282c @reference=nil, @endpoint=#<OpenID::OpenIDServiceEndpoint:0x2601984 @local_id="http://viatropos.myopenid.com/", @display_identifier=nil, @type_uris=["http://specs.openid.net/auth/2.0/signon", "http://openid.net/sreg/1.0", "http://openid.net/extensions/sreg/1.1", "http://schemas.openid.net/pape/policies/2007/06/phishing-resistant", "http://openid.net/srv/ax/1.0"], @used_yadis=true, @server_url="http://www.myopenid.com/server", @canonical_id=nil, @claimed_id="http://viatropos.myopenid.com/">, @message="Server http://www.myopenid.com/server responds that the 'check_authentication' call is not valid", @contact=nil> Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Here's the output: $ irb --simple-prompt Couldn't load Wirble: no such file to load -- wirble The Wirble gem doesn't show up in my $LOAD_PATH: >> puts $: /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/actionmailer-2.3.5/lib /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/actionpack-2.3.5/lib /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/activeresource-2.3.5/lib /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/mysql-2.8.1/lib /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/mysql-2.8.1/ext /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/mysql-2.8.1/bin /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/rack-1.0.1/bin /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/rack-1.0.1/lib /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/rails-2.3.5/bin /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/rake-0.8.7/bin /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/rake-0.8.7/lib /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/rubygems-update-1.3.7/hide_lib_for_update /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.1/gems/rubygems-update-1.3.7/bin /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/site_ruby/1.9.1 /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/site_ruby/1.9.1/i386-darwin10 /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/site_ruby /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/vendor_ruby/1.9.1 /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/vendor_ruby/1.9.1/i386-darwin10 /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/vendor_ruby /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/1.9.1 /opt/local/lib/ruby1.9/1.9.1/i386-darwin10 . => nil >> The gem is definitely installed: $ gem list |grep -i wirble wirble (0.1.3) It is located in /opt/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/wirble-0.1.3/ How do I get this and future gems I installed appended to my $LOAD_PATH?

  • Params order in Foo.new(params[:foo]), need one before the other (Rails)

    - by Jeena
    I have a problem which I don't know how to fix. It has to do with the unsorted params hash. I have a object Reservation which has a virtual time= attribute and a virtual eating_session= attribute when I set the time= I also want to validate it via an external server request. I do that with help of the method times() which makes a lookup on a other server and saves all possible times in the @times variable. The problem now is that the method times() needs the eating_session attribute to find out which times are valid, but rails sometimes calls the times= method first, before there is any eating_session in the Reservation object when I just do @reservation = Reservation.new(params[:reservation]) class ReservationsController < ApplicationController def new @reservation = Reservation.new(params[:reservation]) # ... end end class Reservation < ActiveRecord::Base include SoapClient attr_accessor :date, :time belongs_to :eating_session def time=(time) @time = times.find { |t| t[:time] == time } end def times return @times if defined? @times @times = [] response = call_soap :search_availability { # eating_session is sometimes nil :session_id => eating_session.code, # <- HERE IS THE PROBLEM :dining_date => date } response[:result].each do |result| @times << { :time => "#{DateTime.parse(result[:time]).strftime("%H:%M")}", :correlation_data => result[:correlation_data] } end @times end end I have no idea how to fix this, any help is apriciated.

  • Combine 3 select fields and validate as one in my User model in ruby on rails 3

    - by Psychonetics
    Ok I have 3 select boxes for selecting date of birth. I have constants setup in my User model to provide months, years etc.. Anyway I can successfully validate these select boxes separately. What I want to do is combine the :day, :month and :year and store in :birthday and validate the whole date as one so I can return 1 error rather than 3 separate ones. Also doing this will make it easier to store the validated date in my birthday field in my database. Part of my form <td> <%= f.input :day, :required => false, :label => "Birthday: " , :prompt => "Day", :collection => User::DAYS %></td> <td> <%= f.input :month, :label => false, :prompt => "Month", :collection => User::MONTHS %> </td> <td> <%= f.input :year, :label => false, :prompt => "Year", :collection => User::YEAR_RANGE %> </td> Part of User model MONTHS = ["January", 1], ["February", 2], ["March", 3], ["April", 4], ["May", 5], ["June", 6], ["July", 7], ["August", 8], ["September", 9], ["October", 10], ["November", 11], ["December", 12] # finish this DAYS = 1..31 # finish this START_YEAR = Time.now.year - 106 END_YEAR = Time.now.year YEAR_RANGE = START_YEAR..END_YEAR class User < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessor :day, :month, :year validates_presence_of :day, :message = 'What day in a month was you born?' validates_presence_of :month, :message = 'What month was you born?' validates_presence_of :year, :message = 'What is your year of birth?' end

  • Paging with Find using Active Record

    - by Brian Rizzo
    I can't seem to find an answer to this question or a good example of how to accomplish what I am trying to do. I'm sure it's been posted or explained somewhere, but I am having trouble finding the exact solution I need. I am using ActiveRecord in Subsonic 3.0.0.3. When I do something like recordset = VehicleModel.Find(x => x.Model.StartsWith(SearchText)); I get back an IList of VehicleModel objects (or more simply a recordset), this is fine until I return too many records. I also cannot order the returned set of records (my grid will do this fine, but i'm sure it will be too slow if i have too many records). Being that Find is returning an IList there isn't much that I can run directly against this (again I may be overlooking something simple so please don't kill me). My question is can someone explain how to find data like i am above, sort it and get a page of data where a page is of size n? Am I going about this wrong? Am I even close to being on the right track?

  • What is best strategy to handle exceptions & errors in Rails?

    - by Nick Gorbikoff
    Hello. I was wondering if people would share their best practices / strategies on handling exceptions & errors. Now I'm not asking when to throw an exception ( it has been throroughly answered here: SO: When to throw and Exception) . And I'm not using this for my application flow - but there are legitimate exceptions that happen all the time. For example the most popular one would be ActiveRecordNotFound. What would be the best way to handle it? The DRY way? Right now I'm doing a lot of checking within my controller so if Post.find(5) returns Nil - I check for that and throw a flash message. However while this is very granular - it's a bit cumbersome in a sense that I need to check for exceptions like that in every controller, while most of them are essentially the same and have to do with record not found or related records not found - such as either Post.find(5) not found or if you are trying to display comments related to post that doesn't exist, that would throw an exception (something like Post.find(5).comments[0].created_at) I know you can do something like this in ApplicationController and overwrite it later in a particular controller/method to get more granular support, however would that be a proper way to do it? class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base rescue_from ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid do |exception| render :action => (exception.record.new_record? ? :new : :edit) end end

  • when does factory girl create objects in db?

    - by Pavel K.
    i am trying to simulate a session using factory girl/shoulda (it worked with fixtures but i am having problems with using factories). i have following factories (user login and email both have 'unique' validations): Factory.define :user do |u| u.login 'quentin' u.email '[email protected]' end Factory.define :session_user, :class => Session do |u| u.association :user, :factory => :user u.session_id 'session_user' end and here's the test class MessagesControllerTest < ActionController::TestCase context "normal user" do setup do @request.session[:user_id]=Factory(:user).id @request.session[:session_id]=Factory(:session_user).session_id end should "be able to access new message creation" do get :new assert_response :success end end end but when i run "rake test:functionals", i get this test result 1) Error: test: normal user should be able to access new message creation. (MessagesControllerTest): ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid: Validation failed: Account name already exists!, Email already exists! which means that record already exists in db when i am referring to it in test setup. is there something i don't understand here? does factory girl create all factories in db on startup? rails 2.3.5/shoulda/factory girl

  • Problems running Ruby on Rails apps on shared hosted server

    - by Evgeny
    I have problems installing any Ruby On Rails app on my shared hosted server. Mongrel shows html as plain text for all pages. The problem occurs for any app, even if I create a test empty app and add a scaffolded view without changing anything. It appears that the Mongrel crashes when trying to put cookies to the response header. The HTTP header looks incomplete, the Content-type and other parameters are missing: curl 127.0.0.1:12002/users -I HTTP/1.1 200 OK Connection: close Date: Wed, 26 May 2010 09:46:50 GMT Content-Length: 0 Here is the output from mongrel.log Error calling Dispatcher.dispatch #<NoMethodError: You have a nil object when you didn't expect it! Has anyone seen anything like this?

  • How do we greatly optimize our MySQL database (or replace it) when using joins?

    - by jkaz
    Hi there, This is the first time I'm approaching an extremely high-volume situation. This is an ad server based on MySQL. However, the query that is used incorporates a lot of JOINs and is generally just slow. (This is Rails ActiveRecord, btw) sel = Ads.find(:all, :select = '*', :joins = "JOIN campaigns ON ads.campaign_id = campaigns.id JOIN users ON campaigns.user_id = users.id LEFT JOIN countries ON countries.campaign_id = campaigns.id LEFT JOIN keywords ON keywords.campaign_id = campaigns.id", :conditions = [flashstr + "keywords.word = ? AND ads.format = ? AND campaigns.cenabled = 1 AND (countries.country IS NULL OR countries.country = ?) AND ads.enabled = 1 AND campaigns.dailyenabled = 1 AND users.uenabled = 1", kw, format, viewer['country'][0]], :order = order, :limit = limit) My questions: Is there an alternative database like MySQL that has JOIN support, but is much faster? (I know there's Postgre, still evaluating it.) Otherwise, would firing up a MySQL instance, loading a local database into memory and re-loading that every 5 minutes help? Otherwise, is there any way I could switch this entire operation to Redis or Cassandra, and somehow change the JOIN behavior to match the (non-JOIN-able) nature of NoSQL? Thank you!
