• USB hard drive not recognized

  Until recently I was using the portable USB hard drive in my win 7 laptop and ubuntu laptop. Suddenly now none of the laptops recognize it. This is the message i get by doing lsusb... • Refreshing Windows Media library by command line

  Many file download managers allow you to run a command after your download finishes. Is there a command line to run a Windows Media Player 12 library refresh? Videos don't show up in the available list on my PS3 until the library is refreshed. Right now, I manually open Windows Media Player after the downloads finish, watch the bottom-right corner for the refresh to complete (ie. Update Complete), then close the player. This works, but there has to be a better way. Yes, I know PS3 Media Server would do the trick, and I do use it when I need to transcode something, but WMP is running all the time, so I'd like to take advantage of it.

• Can I boot my notebook via eSata pci-xpress card?

  I would like to boot directly from an external hard disk to improve performance over my internal notebook hard disk. My notebook has no native eSata jack but a pci express card. As my BIOS doesn't support the card on boot time so no way directly booting it. My question is, is it possible to work around this issue by using an USB stick or similar with a boot loader like grub and if so, will this only work for Linux or Windows as well?

• Why do firewire drives on Mac OS cause processes to go into uninterruptible wait?

  I have a Western Digital My Passport Studio external hard drive. It works with either Firewire 800 or USB 2.0. I've noticed that when I have it connected to Firewire, after a few hours, processes on my Mac start to go into an uninterruptible wait state. Eventually the system becomes so hard locked that I can't even shut it down. I have Spotlight indexing of the drive disabled, and the mds process seems to be the one that triggers this eventual system collapse.

• filtering itunes library items by file location

  The Problem I've got way more than 1000 duplicated items in my iTunes Library pointing to a non-existant place (the "where" under "get info" window), along with other duplicated items and other MIAs (Missing In Action). Is there any simple way to just delete all of them and only them? By that I mean some MIAs are pointing to /Volumes while some are pointing to .../music/Music/... or just .../music/.... I want to delete all pointing to /Volumes as to later I'll recover the rest. Check the image below. Some Background I tried searching for a specific key word on the path and creating smart play list, but with no result. Being able to just sort all library by path would be a perfect solution! I believe old iTunes could do that. PowerTunes can do it (sort by path) but I can't do anything with its list. Yes, all of the /Volumes look like that.

• Including objects from external .js files

  I have been searching for many hours over several days for this answer and though there are many topics on how to include files in a project (also here at Stack Overflow), I have not yet found THE solution to my problem. I'm working on a project where I want to include one single object at a time, from many different files (I do not want to include the files themselves, only their content). All the object in all the files have the same name, only the content is different. It is important that I do not get a SCRIPT tag in the head section of the page as all the content from the files will have the same names. None of the files will have functions anyways, only one single object, that will need to be loaded one at the time and then discarded when the next element is loaded. • fatal error C1084: Cannot read type library file: 'Smegui.tlb': Error loading type library/DLL.

  Hi, I am trying to build an old version of an application which consists of VC++ projects that were written in Visual Studio 2003. My OS is Windows 7 Enterprise (64-bit). When I try and build the solution I get the following errors: error C4772: #import referenced a type from a missing type library; '__missing_type__' used as a placeholder fatal error C1084: Cannot read type library file: 'Smegui.tlb': Error loading type library/DLL. They both complain about the following import statement: #import "Smegui.tlb" no_implementation This is not a case of the file path being incorrect as renaming the Smegui.tlb file causes the compiler to throw another error saying it cannot find the library. Smegui is from another application that this one depends on. I thought perhaps I was missing a dll but there is no such thing as Smegui.dll. All I know about .tlb files is that they are a type library and you can create them from an assembly using tlbexp.exe or regasm.exe (the later also registers the assembly with COM) There is also an Apache Ant build script which uses a custom task to invoke devenv.com to build the projects. This is the same script that the build server originally used to build the application. It gives me the same errors when I try and run it. The strangest thing about this is that I knew it ought to work seeing as it is all freshly checked out from subversion. I tried many different combinations of admin vs user elevation, VS vs Ant build, cleaning, release. I have got it to build successfully about 5 times but the build seems to be non-deterministic. If anyone can shed some light on how this tlb stuff even works or what this error might mean I would greatly appreciate it. Cheers, Steiny

I have a database full of data encrypted with another library using CTR and seems the included CCCrypt only supports ECB or CBC with PKCS#7. Any idea on the best portable library I should use? I'm not looking to port the original implementation as I don't have the required knowledge in cryptography and hence, that's-a-bad-idea (tm). Thanks!

  Trying to setup VRF for the first time and its not working for me even though I keep reading everything online. IP's are different to real life. I have an Internet connection which I can ping to my router in the current setup below 195.45.73.22 I have a block of ip addresses 195.45.121.0/27 I want to setup multiple VPN's to AWS so need to have multiple external ip's thus the block of IP addresses. • [iPhone] dyld: Library not loaded - When app run from the command line

  Hi, I face some difficulties when adding a framework to my project when i run an iPhone app from the command line. My final goal is to run applications tests from an automated build process. When i run my app from xCode : I add a "Copy File" build phase to my target and everything goes fine. The copy is set to $(BUILT_PRODUCTS_DIR) as "Absolute path" When i run my app from the terminal (using iphonesim project) i get this error : dyld: Library not loaded: @rpath/OCMock.framework/Versions/A/OCMock UIKitApplication:indemnisation[0xb894][26380] Referenced from: /Users/Admin/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/User/Applications/CD5729B5-A674-49B2-91F6-AD398094B6F8/indemINT.app/indemINT What i dont understand is that the copy build phase just copies the framework files in the same directory that the app. When i run the app from the command line the framework files are already in the same directory. Does anyone knows why it doesn't work ?   I'm working on a C program which will be run in Linux and from inside Visual Studio 2010, and I'm looking for a regex library. GNU comes with a POSIX-compatible regex library, but Visual Studio, despite having C++ std::regex, doesn't have a C-compatible library. GNU has a Windows version of their library (http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/regex.htm), but the DLLs are 32-bit only and the source code can't compile in Visual Studio (~500 errors!). My only requirement is that the end-user should not have to install anything extra, and should get the same behaviour on both platforms. I'm not picky about whether it's POSIX-style, Perl-style or something else. What should I do? Thanks in advance.

• Calling COM Library From XBAP

  I am trying to call an old COM library from my XBAP and continue to receive the following exception: System.AccessViolationException was unhandled Message: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. I have tried adding the HKLM value for RunUnrestricted to no avail. I don't get anything else but this error when calling the library. Any ideas? (This library even works from a pure ASP.NET app)

  Alright, so a couple days ago I decided to try and write a primitive wrapper for the PARI library. Ever since then I've been playing with ctypes library in loading the dll and accessing the functions contained using code similar to the following: from ctypes import * libcyg=CDLL("<path/cygwin1.dll") #It needs cygwin to be loaded. Not sure why. pari=CDLL("<path>/libpari-gmp-2.4.dll") print pari.fibo #fibonacci function #prints something like "<_FuncPtr object at 0x00BA5828>" So the functions are there and they can potentially be accessed, but I always recieve an access violation no matter what I try. For example: pari.fibo(5) #access violation pari.fibo(c_int(5)) #access violation pari.fibo.argtypes=[c_long] #setting arguments manually pari.fibo.restype=long #set the return type pari.fibo(byref(c_int(5))) #access violation reading 0x04 consistently and any variation on that, including setting argtypes to receive pointers. The Pari .dll is written in C and the fibonacci function's syntax within the library is GEN fibo(long x) (docs @http://pari.math.u-bordeaux.fr/dochtml/html/Arithmetic_functions.html#fibonacci, I need more rep it seems). Could it be the return type that's causing these errors, as it is not a standard int or long but a GEN type, which is unique to the PARI library? Any help would be appreciated. If anyone is able to successfully load the library and use ANY function from within python, please tell; I've been at this for hours now.

• Internal/External Moodle - DNS

  Network diagram: I have a moodle (a VLE) setup that I want to be internally and externally accessible. The green route on the diagram below is the route I would like the traffic to take when the user is inside the LAN, and the red route is seemingly what it does take. The website has a domain name (like most websites do). From the User PC, if I ping the domain name, I get the internal IP of the webserver (because of a hosts file entry), if I nslookup the domain name I also get the internal IP of the webserver (because of an A record on my DNS server). Running the same two commands on the webserver gives me the webservers external IP. (going well so far) If I use PHPs gethostbyname() on the moodle website and use domain name as a parameter (getting php/apache to resolve the hostname) it returns the exernal IP of the webserver (good news, DNS seems to be doing what I want it to). All things so far seem to be going well. The only thing that is confusing me and preventing the moodle single sign on from working is the fact that if I get moodle to show my IP address, it says that it is an external one (outside my NATting firewall) when it should show an internal IP. This is the issue, any ideas on how to go about resolving this? Any ideas on tests I can perform (I have also tried a tracert and the request goes directly to the webserver), anything? Thanks all!
