• What Web design tool would make a good CityDesk replacement?

  I am looking for a tool for building static template-based web sites, your typical brochure-ware for a non-profit or a personal site. I have used CityDesk, but that is out-of-date, unsupported, and has certain problems. Of course there are lots of tools out there, but I cannot find anything similar to CityDesk: WYSIWYG as well as HTML coding a templating system not overdesigned like, say, Dreamweaver built for developers who understand HTML/JS/CSS but easier to use than hand-coding of PHP, Ruby, or other templates in a text editor supporting the editing of pages by non-developers preferably free I'd also like it to be CSS-aware; and to have lots of free templates available. Or alternatively, static template-based sites are often developed nowadays on the Web using a CMS like Django; is that the way to go? Edit: Namo, DreamWeaver, NetObjects Fusion, Coffee Cup, Evrsoft First Page, and Microsoft Expression might be candidates. I'll appreciate comments on these based on the criteria above.

• Suggestions for VS+Resharper keyboard shortcuts on a Mac

  I just upgraded to a Macbook Pro as my development machine but still primarily develop .Net applications with Visual Studio and Resharper (via VMWare Fusion). By far, the biggest obstacle I'm running into is getting used to the keyboard layout change (ex. not being able to do ALT-Insert). Do any of you Windows-on-Mac veterans have any suggestions on how to ease the pain of transitioning (without moving to an external keyboard)? Are you changing mappings via VMWare's keyboard preferences? Or are you using something like AutoHotkey? Any other windows development tips for a Mac newb?

  Hi, Which lightweight SQL Server type could I use on my Dev machine for a C# VS2010 project? (e.g. sql server express, sql server ce, full version etc). That is, I'm running on a VMWare fusion instance on my MacBook, and just want something to develop against for a C# VS2010 project. I'm planning on having a simple database (not many tables) but will use Entity Framework. I haven't used SQL Server before so a quick pointer re what is the best database admin interface/app to use for the version you recommend (e.g. to create database, tables etc).

• Does Django tests run slower on the mac compared to linux?

  I'm currently developing my Django projects on both: Mac OS X 10.5, 32 bit Ubuntu Server 9.10 64 bits (1 CPU, 512MB RAM) Both of the above OS are using: Python 2.6.4 Django 1.1.1 MySQL 5.1 Running 12 tests for one of my application take: Mac: 57.513s Linux: 30.935s EDIT: Mac Hardware Spec: MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 3GB RAM I'm running the Ubuntu OS on the same mac above through VMware Fusion 2.0.6. You might argue that Ubuntu Server 64 bits is faster but I have observed a similar speed difference on Ubuntu 8.10 32 bits desktop edition. Even if I turn off my linux VM and other mac applications, I still experience the slowness. Has anyone else experienced this Django test speed difference across those two OS?

• generating an asp.net web application dll requirement list

  I'm trying to set up a web app (32bit on ii7/win7, 32bit setting is enabled, everything is compiled to x86, using vs2008), but there's clearly some dll module loading issue happening. I've been watching procmon and fusion logs but I'm not seeing the name of the missing dll. I'm a complete newbie to asp.net (but fairly heavy experience on other platforms). I know I can call depends.exe on a binary to see what the dependancies are, but how do I do it for asp.net? specifically, is it possible to get a list of the dlls that iis7 loads for my application?

• Egy klassz ADF eloadás

  Túl vagyunk a Technology Forum rendezvényünkön, és én azt gondolom nagyon hasznos volt. Grant nagyszeru eloadást tartott. Címe Forms to ADF: WHy and How. Szerintem maga a demó, ami persze nem letöltheto igazán hasznos volt nem csak Forms háttérrel rendelkezo fejlesztok számára is. Sok rendezvényünkön hintettük az igét ADF-vel kapcsolatban, de átüto penetrációt nem értünk el vele a hazai piacon. Ennek persze több oka is van/lehet. Egyrészrol még mindig azt gondolom (fejlesztoi múltamból fakadóan is), hogy Magyarországon mindenki saját fejlesztésu keretrendszerrel szeret dolgozni. Ezen persze órákat lehet vitatkozni pro és kontra amit akár egy másik bejegyzésben szívesen meg i teszek ha van rá igény. De tény az, hogy már elmúltak azok az idok amikor nem voltak használható keretrendszerek, vagy ha úgy tetszik komponensek. Mégis, megéri manapság lefejleszteni pl: egy üzenetküldo (messaging) alrendszert. Hát szerintem nem, mint ahogy ma már perzisztencia kezelo réteget se állunk neki megírni. Persze ha a projekt elbírja, akkor kifizetodo. Szerencsére egyre több cég ismeri fel és várja el, hogy nem kell neki lefejleszteni egy komplett keretrendszert mikor számos használható van a piacon. Visszatérve az alap kérdésre, az ADF-re azt gondolom, hogy egy fo vissza tartó ero volt a termék érettsége, funkcionalitása és leginkább jövoképe. Nos e tekintetben elismerem, hogy bár több, mint 10 éves múltra tekint vissza korábban voltak buktatók, zsákutcák. Ugyanakkor nem szabad elfelejteni, hogy az Oracle maga ezzel fejleszti új generációs, modern Fusion Appplications (EBusiness Suite, PeopleSoft stb.) alkalmazásait. Tehát több mint ezer(!) fejleszto használja nap, mint nap Java EE alkalmazás fejlesztésére. Nem kevés hangsúlyt fordítva az integrációs, testreszabhatósági képességekre. Olyannyira hangsúlyos eszköz lett, hogy az Oracle teljes middleware portfoliójában visszaköszön. Ami pedig a funkcionalitást, a felhasználói felületet, a produktivitást illeti tényleg jó. Persze az utolsó és egyben legfontosabb szempont kishazánkban az ár. Nos tényleg nincs ingyen. Pontosabban ha az ember vesz egy Weblogic szervert (amúgyis kell a futtatáshoz egy JEE szerver) akkor ingyenesen használható. A termékhez pedig dokumentáció, support, javítás, blogok, közösségi fórumok stb. áll rendelkezésünkre. És akkor most újabb vita indulhat arról, hogy akarunk e fizetni a szerverért. Na errol tényleg fogok indítani egy bejegyzést majd. Mert én azt hiszem, tapasztalatom, hogy itthon összekeverik az open source modelt az ingyenességgel. Azért az alapigazság szerintem még mindig áll: ingyen nincsen semmi. Kérdés csak az, hogy mik az igényeink, elvárásaink.

  Two days ago Oracle announced the release of Oracle Financial Analytics for SAP.  With the amount of press this has garnered in the past two days, there's a key detail that can't be missed.  This release is certified with Oracle Data Integrator EE - now making the combination of Data Integration and Business Intelligence a force to contend with.  Within the Oracle Press Release there were two important bullets: ·         Oracle Financial Analytics for SAP includes a pre-packaged ABAP code compliant adapter and is certified with Oracle Data Integrator Enterprise Edition to integrate SAP Financial Accounting data directly with the analytic application.  ·         Helping to integrate SAP financial data and disparate third-party data sources is Oracle Data Integrator Enterprise Edition which delivers fast, efficient loading and transformation of timely data into a data warehouse environment through its high-performance Extract Load and Transform (E-LT) technology. • World Record Batch Rate on Oracle JD Edwards Consolidated Workload with SPARC T4-2

  Oracle produced a World Record batch throughput for single system results on Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Day-in-the-Life benchmark using Oracle's SPARC T4-2 server running Oracle Solaris Containers and consolidating JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, Oracle WebLogic servers and the Oracle Database 11g Release 2. The workload includes both online and batch workload. The SPARC T4-2 server delivered a result of 8,000 online users while concurrently executing a mix of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Long and Short batch processes at 95.5 UBEs/min (Universal Batch Engines per minute). In order to obtain this record benchmark result, the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, Oracle WebLogic and Oracle Database 11g Release 2 servers were executed each in separate Oracle Solaris Containers which enabled optimal system resources distribution and performance together with scalable and manageable virtualization. One SPARC T4-2 server running Oracle Solaris Containers and consolidating JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, Oracle WebLogic servers and the Oracle Database 11g Release 2 utilized only 55% of the available CPU power. The Oracle DB server in a Shared Server configuration allows for optimized CPU resource utilization and significant memory savings on the SPARC T4-2 server without sacrificing performance. This configuration with SPARC T4-2 server has achieved 33% more Users/core, 47% more UBEs/min and 78% more Users/rack unit than the IBM Power 770 server. The SPARC T4-2 server with 2 processors ran the JD Edwards "Day-in-the-Life" benchmark and supported 8,000 concurrent online users while concurrently executing mixed batch workloads at 95.5 UBEs per minute. The IBM Power 770 server with twice as many processors supported only 12,000 concurrent online users while concurrently executing mixed batch workloads at only 65 UBEs per minute. This benchmark demonstrates more than 2x cost savings by consolidating the complete solution in a single SPARC T4-2 server compared to earlier published results of 10,000 users and 67 UBEs per minute on two SPARC T4-2 and SPARC T4-1. The Oracle DB server used mirrored (RAID 1) volumes for the database providing high availability for the data without impacting performance. The workload consists of online transactions and the UBE – Universal Business Engine workload of 61 short and 4 long UBEs. LoadRunner runs the DIL workload, collects the user’s transactions response times and reports the key metric of Combined Weighted Average Transaction Response time. Oracle's UBE process performance metric is Number of Maximum Concurrent UBE processes at transaction rate, UBEs/minute. Key Points and Best Practices Two JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Application Servers, two Oracle WebLogic Servers 11g Release 1 coupled with two Oracle Web Tier HTTP server instances and one Oracle Database 11g Release 2 database on a single SPARC T4-2 server were hosted in separate Oracle Solaris Containers bound to four processor sets to demonstrate consolidation of multiple applications, web servers and the database with best resource utilizations. Interrupt fencing was configured on all Oracle Solaris Containers to channel the interrupts to processors other than the processor sets used for the JD Edwards Application server, Oracle WebLogic servers and the database server. A Oracle WebLogic vertical cluster was configured on each WebServer Container with twelve managed instances each to load balance users' requests and to provide the infrastructure that enables scaling to high number of users with ease of deployment and high availability. The database log writer was run in the real time RT class and bound to a processor set. The database redo logs were configured on the raw disk partitions. The Oracle Solaris Container running the Enterprise Application server completed 61 Short UBEs, 4 Long UBEs concurrently as the mixed size batch workload. The mixed size UBEs ran concurrently from the Enterprise Application server with the 8,000 online users driven by the LoadRunner.   This article describes implementing conditional activation to taskflows.Use Case Description Suppose we have a taskflow dropped as region on a page & this region is enclosed in a popup .By default when the page is loaded the respective region also gets loaded.Hence a region model needs to provide a viewId whenever one is requested.  A consequence of this is the TaskFlowRegionModel always has to initialize its task flow and execute the task flow's default activity in order to determine a viewId, even if the region is not visible on the page.This can lead to unnecessary performance overhead of executing task flow to generate viewIds for regions that are never visible. • Innovation and the Role of Social Media

  A very interesting post by Andy Mulholland of CAP Gemini this week – “The CIO is trapped between the CEO wanting innovation and the CFO needing compliance” – had many interesting points: “A successful move in one area won’t be recognized and rapidly implemented in other areas to multiply the benefits, or worse unsuccessful ideas will get repeated adding to the cost and time wasted. That’s where the need to really address the combination of social networking, collaboration, knowledge management and business information is required.” Without communicating what works and what doesn’t, the innovations of our organization may be lost, and the failures repeated. That makes sense. If you liked Andy Mulholland’s blog post, you need to hear Howard Beader’s presentation at Enterprise 2.0 Conference on innovation and the role of social media. (Howard will be speaking in the Market Leaders Session at 1 PM on Wednesday June 22nd). Some of the thoughts Howard will share include: • Innovation is more than just ideas, it’s getting ideas to market, and removing the obstacles that stand in the way • Innovation is about parallel processing – you can’t remove the obstacles one by one because you will get to market too late • Innovation can be about product innovation, but it can also be about process innovation This brings us to Andy’s second issue he raises: "..the need for integration with, and visibility of, processes to understand exactly how the enterprise functions and delivers on its policies…" Andy goes on to talk about this from the perspective of compliance and the CFO’s concerns.   Si è tenuto lo scorso 10 e 11 novembre l'appuntamento con l'innovazione marcato Oracle. L' Oracle Enterprise Innovation Days, alla sua seconda edizione, ha portato a Bologna tutte le aziende che pensano all'innovazione come leva principale per difendere e rafforzare la propria competitività. All'interno di un panorama, come quello odierno, complesso ed eterogeneo si è discusso a lungo di approcci strategici, soluzioni possibili e sono state portate d'esempio alcune esperienze significative. Fra gli ospiti dell'evento Rajan Krishnan, Vice President, Applications Product Development and Product Management for EMEA, ha presentato le strategie applicative di Oracle aprendo così la discussione sulla tematica principale della sessione plenaria: Oracle Fusion Applications. Il suo intervento è stato subito seguito da Enrico Pagliarini, giornalista del sole 24 ore che ha intervistato 3 diverse coppie Partner / Cliente per approfondire con loro i progetti altamente innovativi a cui le loro aziende hanno collaborato.  Si è parlato di Enel Servizi Srl che grazie ad Accenture ha portato la soluzione Syebel Energy CRM alla sua attuale versione 8.0 per una migliore gestione dei clienti all'interno del mercato libero caratterizzato dalla sua alta competitività; Prysmian che, a fronte dell'acquisizione della società olandese Draka, insieme a Reply, ha deciso di rimodellare il processo di Reporting Civilistico e Gestionale di gruppo, creando una nuova applicazione che soddisfi i requisiti della nuova organizzazione nascente; Kinexia e Waste Italia precedentemente parte del gruppo Unendo e ora divisesi l'una nel mercato dei rinnovabili l'altra in quello dello smaltimento rifiuti che con l'aiuto di Deloitte si sono dotate della soluzione full outsourcing JDE, a seguito di  una sw selection tra JDE, SAP e altre soluzioni italiane.Durante la cena altri due momenti hanno attirato l'attenzione dei partecipanti: la presentazione di Michele Stroligo, giovanissimo  Designer Team Member Oracle Racing e i Reference Customer Award ovvero le premiazioni dei clienti che si sono contraddistinti come migliori referenze nei diversi mercati con diversi prodotti. I premi sono stati assegnati a: FIAT, Enel, Boiron Laboratoires, Champion Europe, Mediaset, Coeclerici. Il pomeriggio ha interessato invece vari percorsi di approfondimento declinati sulle diverse figure professionali concludendosi con la presentazione del Tenente Colonello Marco Lant delle Frecce Tricolori, esempio di eccellezza italiana noto in tutto il mondo. La giornata si è conclusa con la cena di gala nel famoso palazzo Re Enzo che troneggia sulla piazza principale della città.  La mattinata del secondo giorno è stata interamente dedicata all'approfondimento degli argomenti di maggior interesse attraverso tavoli interattivi e workshop a cura dei partner Oracle. L'evento si è poi concluso con una serie di iniziative culturali dedicate ai congressisti. • A Technique for Performing Cross-host Upgrades to FMW 11gR1

  The main tool used for the upgrade of iAS 10g mid-tier (data not stored in 10g meta-data repository schemas) environments to Fusion Middleware (FMW) 11gR1 is the FMW Upgrade Assistant (UA). This tool performs what we call an out-of-place upgrade which in a nut-shell means the following: Upgrade is performed by pointing the UA to a 10g source topology as well as an 11g destination topology. The destination topology must be created, using the standard FMW 11g installation and configuration process, prior to the execution of the UA. The UA carries over all of the required changes from the source environment to the destination. This approach has a number of advantages rooted in the fact that the source environment - which is presumably working well and serving its needs - is not disturbed during the upgrade process as the UA only performs read-only operations on it. The UA today can only perform such out-of-place upgrades when the source and destination topologies reside on the same machine. This can sometimes be an issue when the host on which the iAS 10g environment is installed is running at full capacity and installing new hardware for the purpose of the upgrade (in most cases what would be needed is extra memory) is completely infeasible. In such cases, upgrade across a different host is still possible by using the following technique: Backup your source environment and restore it on to a target machine. The backup and restore procedures for the iAS 10.1.2 components are described within this section of the release's Administration Guide. As described in the docs, the Oracle Application Server Backup and Recovery Tool provides capabilities for backing up the installation on one machine and restoring it on another which is exactly what you want to do for the purpose of cross host upgrade. Ensure that the restored environment on your target host is fully functional. Go through the upgrade steps on the target machine to perform the out-of-place upgrade using the UA. Although this process does add another big step to the overall upgrade process, it does make it possible to perform a cross-host upgrade to 11gR1 when necessary. The easiest approach would of course be to find a way of ensuring that the required hardware capacity for upgrade is available on the original 10g host. Using techniques such as scheduling the upgrade at low traffic times and/or temporarily stopping other processes running on the machine to clear up some memory might provide you the sufficient memory needed to perform the out-of-place upgrade and save you the need for using the backup/restore technique I have described in this post.

  Megjelent és letöltheto az Oracle Enterprise Manager 11gR1. Remélem az olvasók közül többen látták már a bejelentés videóját. Aki lemaradt volna róla bepótolhatja itt. Az új verzió számos újdonságot tartalmaz, melyek röviden összefoglalva az alábbiak: Eloször is az új verzió célja az alkalmazások üzemeltetése üzleti szemszögbol (Business Driven Application Management). A hagyományos komponens alapú rendszer menedzsment megközelítése egyszeruen nem állja meg a helyét az mai IT világában. Ezzel szemben a Business Driven Application Management segíti az üzemeltetoket, hogy az üzletet a leheto leghatékonyabban szolgálják ki, aminek eredményeképp az üzleti eredmények a legoptimálisabban alakulhatnak. A Business Driven Application Management elérése érdekében a 11gR1 a 10g-ben már elérheto végfelhasználói élmény monitorozásra épít. Ezzel a képességgel az IT sokkal jobban megérti, hogy a felhasználók hogyan használják az alkalmazásokat és eközben mit tapasztalnak. Ezt kiegészítve az új verzió fejlettebb üzleti tranzakció menedzsment képességekkel rendelkezik, ezáltal könnyebbé és gyorsabbá teszi a felhasználók számára problémát jelento tranzakciók javítását. Másodsorban az új verzió az alkalmazástól a diszk rétegig (Integrated Application-to-Disk Management) támogatja az üzemeltetést. Mivel minden egyes réteg képes befolyásolni a felhasználói élményt, ezért amint a felhasználókat érinto probléma detektálásra kerül, szükséges az érintett réteg részletes diagnosztikája, elemzése. Az Oracle Enterprise Manager 11gR1 natív támogatást ad az Oracle Database 11gR2, Exadata V2 és Fusion Middleware 11g termékekre. Az összetett alkalmazások menedzsmentjét támogató JVM Diagnosztika és Composite Application Monitoring and Modeler immár szerves részét képezik az új verziónak. Sot, az Enterprise Manager Grid Control és az Enterprise Manager Ops Center elso integrációs lépcsoje is elkészült, így a hardver szintu események is központilag monitorozhatók a Grid Control felületérol. Végül pedig az új verzió integrált rendszer menedzsement és támogatás (Integrated Systems Management and Support) képességgel rendelkezik. Ez azt jelenti, hogy az Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g integrálja a probléma diagnosztizálás és megoldás munkafolyamatát azáltal, hogy közvetlenül a Grid Control-ból lehetségessé válik a My Oracle Support szolgáltatásainak igénybevétele, mint például a szükséges patch-ek letöltése, service request nyitása, stb. Az Oracle support személyzete pedig az Enterprise Manager konfiguráció kezelési képességei révén azonnal információt gyujthetnek a környezetrol, hogy felgyorsuljon a probléma megoldás ideje. Ez a szoros integráció az Oracle Enterprise Manager és a My Oracle Support között segítheti ügyfeleinket a leghatékonyabb Oracle üzemeltetés elérésében.
