  • Programming language for fast calculations with big integers

    I'm doing Project Euler problems at the moment and I can solve most of them using my own programming language which uses direct C++ integers (so they are bound to 2^32 on my machine). However, at times there are problems which require me to work with very high numbers, I can't do that with native integers. So I implemented a BigInt library in my language which unfortunately gets extremely slow at times. Is there a programming language suitable for very efficient handling of big numbers? I mean that I want to do the things I could do in other programming languages with it (variables, loops, etc.), but in a faster way. If you have got tips for workarounds of the 2^32 limit in my language/C++/other languages, please tell me too!

  • jquery events on input submit fields

    I have a problem with jquery submit button onclick and default event. What I want to do is replace an click event on submit button if it has one, and get an dialog box to show up, on clicking yes the dialog should start that default onclick event if submit button has one defined, if it hasn't than the default event should happen (button submits form), .submit() function does not work for me in any case cause I need to send this button also through a form and if button wasn't clicked .submit() sends form data without submit data.   • Is there a way to localize input type="date" in HTML5

    I know that at the time of this writing only Opera supports a browser UI for <input type="date" name="mydate"> and maybe my attempts to localize this field have been met with frustration because niceties like localization have not yet been included in their implementation, but I don't even see mention of it in the HTML5 spec. Is there a way that localization should be specified? Should I do lang="fr" on a parent element? Some notes on the implementation of the site in question: Localization (language) is explicitly picked by the user because they are managing data in multiple languages and it is not reasonable to expect that the user's browser chrome is in the language being viewed or that the browser is providing desired language request headers. I want to be sure that if the page is rendered in French that the date picker provided by browser chrome shows options that make sense for French language. The plan is to fall back to jQueryUI for browsers that do not support type="date", I will use the detection mechanism provided in Dive into HTML 5

    I used to be visual basic 6 programmer, i was pleased with visual basic : it is high level language that do stuff fast,easy to learn, easy to do stuff in,you can drag and drop stuff to the form and write your code,it is simply amazing.however microsoft buried VB6 and pointed us to VB.NET which is so different that it is not the old VB anymore.I didn't like what microsoft did and would like to look somewhere AWAY from microsoft and from any other proprietary language . I would like to look into a similar language that is easy,cross platform (windows / Linux), object oriented, visual design, non proprietary and compile (for some guarding against reverse engineering). i am freelancer so the choice is entirely mine,i don't care about performance of programs, the time taken to develop a given programs is much more important. desktop / database / GUI /networking programming is what i am looking for. so any such language offered by our open source community ? thank you so much

    Unfortunately my last question was closed, so I reformulated the question: I know this question was here a lot of times and can't be answered at all, but im not looking for a single name, but rather for an advice in my situation. I learned programming with Java and now I'm developing in Java for more or less 5 years (at the university) and I thinks my programming skills their are really ok/average. I have also small experience in C/C++ and C#. Now I have some spare time and I'd like to learn a new language or deepen the knowledge of Java/C/C++. But how to choose the right language to learn? I'd like to learn a language which will be usefull in the future concerning working in a software development business? I know there is no single answer, but I'm sure you could mention some languages that are more usefull than others. And what's the best way to learn such a language efficiently (bearing in mind that one has already learned some other languages)? Just doing tutorials? Or trying to implement a project? Trying to move a Java project to the new language?

    I am building a PHP registration form which takes the following fields for up to 20 athletes: First Name Middle Initial Last Name Federation Number Address City State Zip DOB SSN Phone Email I am only through 7 of the fields for each fighter and my php file is very large (over 40kb). Is there ANY way to consolidate this code at all? I am also having to validate the information on each field (as I said - 20 athletes x 12 fields = 240 validations on a single page).   • using CSS to center FLOATED input elements wrapped in a DIV

    There's no shortage of questions and answers about centering but I've not been able to get it to work given my specific circumstances, which involve floating. I want to center a container DIV that contains three floated input elements (split-button, text, checkbox), so that when my page is resized wider, they go from this: ||.....[ ][v] [ ] [ ] label .....|| to this ||......................[ ][v] [ ] [ ] label.......................|| They float fine, but when the page is made wider, they stay to the left: ||.....[ ][v] [ ] [ ] label .......................................|| If I remove the float so that the input elements are stacked rather than side-by-side: [ ][v] [ ] [ ] label then they DO center correctly when the page is resized. SO it is the float being applied to the elements of the DIV#hbox inside the container that is messing up the centering. Is what I want to do impossible because of the way float is designed to work?   • Is there a 64-bit Windows 7 driver for a Logitech Wingman Formula Force wheel?

    I've used my Logitech Wingman Formula Force wheel for more years than I can remember (I definitely had it back when I was playing Viper Racing, though). Sadly, Logitech does not appear to support the wheel in any capacity, even as an analog input device. At this point, I'm looking for any sort of driver that will take input from the device. I don't care at all about the force feedback but, if it were available, I'd be happy to take it. The target operating system is Windows 7 64-bit. EDIT: Just in case I'm not clear above: I know where the standard driver download sites are and have tried them out. The problem is that Logitech has officially end-of-lifed this wheel so their latest software specifically does not support it. Sadly, their older software that does support it is 32-bit only so I'm out of luck on that front.

  • vqadmin "invalid language file" with google chrome

    We have been running our qmail setup for awhile with no issues. One of our admins has moved to Google Chrome as his main browser and we have noticed something odd. No matter what, when he loads the vqadmin page it errors on him with simply invalid language file. Yet if he loads Firefox, Opera, Safari or shudders IE8 it works fine. Searching google only results in 'Use IE' or 'Set english as your language in the browser'. A: I try to have people avoid IE if possible and B: There is no english option in Chrome.

  • google docs document in Hebrew and English?

    Is there any way to have Hebrew and English in the same document in Google Docs? So far, everything I have found about multiple languages seems to assume that you want the user interface (menus, etc) and document text in the same language, and that you only want that one language. I would like the interface to stay in English but let me type Hebrew and English into the document text.
