  In Unity I use my ThinkPad hot keys to change the volume. I need to know the command that these keys run so that I can bind it in my window manager. I have tried using amixer but could not change the volume through command line amixer set Master 10%- amixer: Unable to find simple control 'Master',0 amixer scontrols: Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0 amixer set 'IEC958' 50%- amixer: Invalid command! So obviously this is not what Unity is running. I have tried changing the default sound card as well but that didn't help.

  Trying to create folders for links where the parent has no content, it's just a folder. Need to be able to insert #, but Drupal is saying it's not a link. Just want the user to click it and nothing happen, the child of that menu item will already be being displayed without a click.   I'm running apt-get update, and I see errors like W: GPG error: http://us.archive.ubuntu.com precise Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key <[email protected]> It's not hard to find instructions on how to fix these problems, for instance by asking for the new keys with apt-key adv --recv-keys or rebuilding the cache; so I'm not asking about how to fix these. But why is this the right thing to do? Why is "oh, I need new keys? Cool, go get new keys" not just defeating the purpose of having a signed repository in the first place? Are the keys signed by a master key that apt-key checks? Should we be doing some additional validation to ensure that we're getting legitimate keys?

• Problem with Arcam rpac and Ubuntu 12.04

  I have recently (?mistakenly) purchased an Arcam rpac USB DAC for my Ubuntu (12.04) PC. I have torn out all but 3 of my hairs trying to get this to work and have had absolutely no luck so far. I can see the Arcam USB audio device when i run aplay -l, however I cannot see it listed under the Sound settings. I can see the soundcard device when running alsamixer also, but if I try and select it, alsamixer crashes, stating "cannot load mixer controls: Invalid argument". Any ideas how to get this working (if it's even possible)? Does anyone else out there have the rpac with ubuntu? Thank you! Aman

• Can't open Windows 8 after installing ubuntu 12.04

  Yesterday, I tried ubuntu 12.04 LTS and I liked it, so I installed it in my computer with Windows 8. I managed to create a disk partition in Windows and I named it U:\UBUNTU. Then I installed Ubuntu inside this partition, but now, when I try to enter in my Windows 8, it gives me an error message: error: Secure Boot forbids loading module from (hd0,gpt5)/boot/grub/ntfs.mod. error: no such device: 2402319002316706 error: unknow command 'drivemap'. error: invalid EFI file path. Press any key to continue... What can I do? Please I need urgent help, I need to access to Windows 8 and I don't want to lose any data... I checked for the Windows disk and I can se there's all my information there, so, I didn't lose anything. Thanks.

• Has the Appindicator or GtkMenu API changed in Saucy?

  I've written a custom application indicator, which isn't working properly on saucy. The menu is initialised with a few items, then updates regularly, adding or removing menu items. This worked fine <13.10, but on 13.10, the line that adds the menu to the indicator produces the following warning: Warning: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.38.0/./gobject/gsignal.c:2475: signal 'child-added' is invalid for instance '0x24390e0' of type 'GtkMenu' self.ind.set_menu(self.menu) And the items added to the menu subsequently dont appear. A bug has been filed against several indicators for the same problem, but it's not clear to me whether this is a problem with the indicators as a result of an API change, or a bug in the GTK or Appindicator libraries. Does anyone know?

• knetworkmanager not starting at all

  It seems that my knetworkmanager is not starting anymore. Read: In KDE4's sys tray I don't have a icon to manage my networks. Also when starting it from terminal or kick off menu literally "nothing" happens. I don't know what's wrong with it. Sadly after reading this answer on superuser.com it seems I can not connect to wifi via iwconfig 'cause my network is WPA2 encrypted. (Basically I can not set they passphrase - invalid argumenterror.) So it seems I've to get knetworkmanger running again as I also can't download other tools. I've tried stuff like sudo service network-manager restart but it didn't seem to help. I'm kinda puzzled so any help for this would be appreciated. PS: If it hasn't become clear: The whole drama of is simply I can't connect to wifi and internet :o)

I am stuck at the log on screen= i enter my password but i get a black screen flases up and the log on prompt reappears!!! tried using terminal prompts and i actually have loggin it- but not according to the main log onm screen. I cant get my desktop active as the log on prompt is there. when i put a wrong password in i get an invalid password message- with the correct password the log on screen just reappears!!!please help.

  Is anyone aware of an org-sort function / modification that can refile / organize a group of TODO so that it sorts them by three (3) criteria: first sort by due date, second sort by priority, and third sort by by title of the task? EDIT: I believe that org-sort by deadline (?d) has a bug that cannot properly handle undated tasks. I am working on a workaround (i.e., moving the undated todo to a different heading before the deadline (?d) sort occurs), but perhaps the best thing to do would be to try and fix the original sorting function.   I restarted my slave to change configuration settings to skip reverse hostname lookup on connecting and to enable the slow query log. • jquery ui draggable elements not 'draggable' outside of scrolling div

  hello all, i am super stumped. i have many elements (floating href tags) in a div with a set height/width, with scroll set to "overflow: auto" in the css. this is the structure of the divs: <div id="tagFun_div_main"> <div id="tf_div_tagsReturn"> <!-- all the draggable elements go in here, the parent div scolls --> </div> <div id=" tf_div_tagsDrop"> <div id="tf_dropBox"></div> </div></div> the parent div's, 'tf_div_tagsReturn' and 'tf_div_tagsDrop' will ultimately float next to each other. here is the jquery which is run after all of the 'draggable' elements have been created with class name 'tag_cell', : $(function() { $(".tag_cell").draggable({ revert: 'invalid', scroll: false, containment: '#tagFun_div_main' }); $("#tf_dropBox").droppable({ accept: '.tag_cell', hoverClass: 'tf_dropBox_hover', activeClass: 'tf_dropBox_active', drop: function(event, ui) { GLOBAL_ary_tf_tags.push(ui.draggable.html()); tagFun_reload(); } }); }); as i stated above, the draggable elements are draggable within div 'tf_div_tagsReturn', but they do not visually drag outside of that parent div. worthy to note, if i am dragging one of the draggable elements, and move the mouse over the droppable div, with id 'tf_dropBox', then the hoverclass is fired, i just can't see the draggable element any more. thank you very much for any advice on helping me find a solution. this is my first run at using jquery, so hopefully i am just missing something super obvious. i've been reading the documentation and searching forums thus far to no prevail :( thank you for your time. • Spring Security - Interactive login attempt was unsuccessful

  I've been trying to track down why Spring Security isn't creating the SPRING_SECURITY_REMEMBER_ME_COOKIE so I turned on logging for org.springframework.security.web.authentication.rememberme. At first glance, the logs make it seem like the login is failing but the login is actually successful in the sense that if I navigate to a page that requires authentication I am not redirected back to the login page. However, the logs appear to be saying the login credentials are invalid. Any ideas as to what is going on? • C# Ignore certificate errors?

  I am getting the following error during a web service request to a remote web service: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. --- System.Security.Authentication.AuthenticationException: The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure. Is there anyway to ignore this error, and continue. It seems the remote certificate is not signed.   Hi chaps, I'm trying to get started with cometd (http://cometd.org/) and jetty 6 or 7, but I seem to be having problems. I've got an ant script that packages my code up into a war with the cometd 1.1.1 binaries and jetty binaries that are appropriate to the version of jetty I deploy the war to (so 7.1.2.v20100523 binaries when I deploy to jetty 7.1.2.v20100523 and 6.1.24 when I deploy to 6.1.24).   When a Validator (i.e. StringValidator, NumberValidator, etc) dispatches an invalid event due to validation failure, the errorString property of the source control (i.e. TextInput) is set to a non-empty string which creates a red border around the control and shows an toolTip (errorTip) ONLY when the mouse hovers over the control. Question: Can you force immediate display of the toolTip (errorTip) rather than waiting for the user to hover over the control? If so, how?
