  • Improving field get and set performance with ASM

    - by ng
I would like to avoid reflection in an open source project I am developing. Here I have classes like the following. public class PurchaseOrder { @Property private Customer customer; @Property private String name; } I scan for the @Property annotation to determine what I can set and get from the PurchaseOrder reflectively. There are many such classes all using java.lang.reflect.Field.get() and java.lang.reflect.Field.set(). Ideally I would like to generate for each property an invoker like the following. public interface PropertyAccessor<S, V> { public void set(S source, V value); public V get(S source); } Now when I scan the class I can create a static inner class of PurchaseOrder like so. static class customer_Field implements PropertyAccessor<PurchaseOrder, Customer> { public void set(PurchaseOrder order, Customer customer) { order.customer = customer; } public Customer get(PurchaseOrder order) { return order.customer; } } With these I totally avoid the cost of reflection. I can now set and get from my instances with native performance. Can anyone tell me how I would do this. A code example would be great. I have searched the net for a good example but can find nothing like this. The ASM examples are pretty poor also. The key here is that I have an interface that I can pass around. So I can have various implementations, perhaps one with Java Reflection as a default, one with ASM, and maybe one with Javassist? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • HTML/CSS: Creating a centered div with a min-width

    - by Alessandro Vernet
    I'd like to have on my page a div which is centered and has a certain width, but which extends beyond that width if required by the content. I am doing this with the following: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/> <style type="text/css"> .container-center { text-align: center; } .container-minwidth { min-width: 5em; display: inline-block; border: 1px solid blue; } </style> </head> <body> <div class="container-center"> <div class="container-minwidth"> a </div> </div> </body> </html> This works great on Firefox/Safari, but not on IE6, which doesn't understand the display: inline-block. Any advice on how to make this work on IE6 as well?

  • Twitter api - no more than 150 requests per hour....

    - by RenegadeAndy
Hi. I am writing a twitter app using jtwitter - and its running inside a server inside my work. Anyway - whenever i run it from work it returns the error below and I am only making a couple requests per hour: HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request {"request":"/1/statuses/user_timeline.json?count=6&id=cicsdemo&","error":"Rate limit exceeded. Clients may not make more than 150 requests per hour."} ] 2010-06-03 18:44:49 zero.timer.TimerTask::run Thread-3 SEVERE [ CWPZA3100E: Exception during processing for timer task, "twitterTimer". Exception: java.lang.ClassCastException: winterwell.jtwitter.Twitter$Status incompatible with java.lang.String ] I run the same code from home - its fine. So obviously at some point twitter thinks our work is all coming from one direct IP - which is why its hitting a limit which it shouldnt. Do I have any choice or workaround - can i make the limit be counted from my direct machine IP - or to my account instead of IP? Can i use a proxy? Has any body else had this problem and solved it?! Before anyone asks the APP must live inside my work - it cannot run anywhere else! Cheers, Andy

  • Recommended Meta Elements?

    - by joyce
    Hi everyone! Setting up a "basic framework" for my website projects, I'm wondering which meta elements are really necessary/recommended? In particular, I'd like to know how to deal with the language attribute(s)!? In the following example, I think sth. is repeated unnecessarily... <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en" dir="ltr"> <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <meta http-equiv="content-style-type" content="text/css" /> <meta http-equiv="content-script-type" content="text/javascript" /> <meta http-equiv="content-language" content="en" /> <meta http-equiv="language" content="en" /> <title> Title </title> <base href="http://www.mydomain.com" /> <meta name="charset" content="utf-8" /> <meta name="content-language" content="en" /> <meta name="language" content="en" /> <meta name="description" content="description" /> <meta name="keywords" content="keywords" /> </head>

  • CSS: how come html, body height: 100% is more then 100% ?!

    - by Nati
hey, i was trying to do a bottom sticky footer link test and but it kept being more then 100% meaning it scrolled a litle bit.. so i made a simple HTML code, without any additions but its still more than 100%, see here: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="he" lang="he" dir="rtl" id="bangler"> <head> <title>my title</title> <style type="text/css"> html, body, #wrapper { height: 100%; } body > #wrapper { height: auto; min-height: 100%; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper">aa</div> </body> </html> the thing is, it scrolls just a little bit more then 100% meaning about 5-10px more.. this is really strange, on both IE and Firefox !! Thanks in advance !

  • NPE annotation scenarios and static-analysis tools for Java

    - by alex2k8
Here is a number of code snippets that can throw NullPointerException. 01: public void m1(@Nullable String text) { System.out.print(text.toLowerCase()); // <-- expect to be reported. } 02: private boolean _closed = false; public void m1(@Nullable String text) { if(_closed) return; System.out.print(text.toLowerCase()); // <-- expect to be reported. } 03: public void m1(@NotNull String text) { System.out.print(text.toLowerCase()); } public @Nullable String getText() { return "Some text"; } public void m2() { m1(getText()); // <-- expect to be reported. } Different people have access to different static-analysis tools. It would be nice to collect information, what tools are able to detect and report the issues, and what are failing. Also, if you have your own scenarious, please, publish them. Here my results FindBugs (1.3.9): 01: Parameter must be nonnull but is marked as nullable 02: NOT reported 03: NOT reported IntelliJ IDE 9.0.2 (Community edition): 01: Method invocation text.toLowerCase() may produce java.lang.NullPointerException 02: Method invocation text.toLowerCase() may produce java.lang.NullPointerException 03: Argument getText() might be null

  • Extremely strange glitch in Chrome - parses contents of string!

    - by George Edison
Okay - this is the dumbest glitch I have seen in a while: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <script type='text/javascript'> var data = "</script>"; </script> </head> <body> This should break! </body> </html> This causes syntax errors because the JavaScript parser is actually reading the contents of the string. How stupid! How can I put </script> in my code. Is there any way? Is there a valid reason for this behavior?

  • Scala type inference failure on "? extends" in Java code

    - by oxbow_lakes
    I have the following simple Java code: package testj; import java.util.*; public class Query<T> { private static List<Object> l = Arrays.<Object>asList(1, "Hello", 3.0); private final Class<? extends T> clazz; public static Query<Object> newQuery() { return new Query<Object>(Object.class); } public Query(Class<? extends T> clazz) { this.clazz = clazz; } public <S extends T> Query<S> refine(Class<? extends S> clazz) { return new Query<S>(clazz); } public List<T> run() { List<T> r = new LinkedList<T>(); for (Object o : l) { if (clazz.isInstance(o)) r.add(clazz.cast(o)); } return r; } } I can call this from Java as follows: Query<String> sq = Query.newQuery().refine(String.class); //NOTE NO <String> But if I try and do the same from Scala: val sq = Query.newQuery().refine(classOf[String]) I get the following error: error: type mismatch found :lang.this.class[scala.this.Predef.String] required: lang.this.class[?0] forSome{ type ?0 <: ? } val sq = Query.newQuery().refine(classOf[String]) This is only fixed by the insertion of the correct type parameter! val sq = Query.newQuery().refine[String](classOf[String]) Why can't scala infer this from my argument? Note I am using Scala 2.7

  • "database already closed" is shown using a custom cursor adapter

    - by kiduxa
I'm using a cursor with a custom adapter that extends SimpleCursorAdapter: public class ListWordAdapter extends SimpleCursorAdapter { private LayoutInflater inflater; private Cursor mCursor; private int mLayout; private String[] from; private int[] to; public ListWordAdapter(Context context, int layout, Cursor c, String[] from, int[] to, int flags) { super(context, layout, c, from, to, holder; if (convertView == null) { convertView = inflater.inflate(mLayout, null); holder = new ViewHolder(); // holder.img = (ImageView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.img_row); holder.name = And this is an example of how I manage a query: public Cursor list(Context context) { ConexionBD conexion = new ConexionBD(context); Cursor mCursor = null; try{ conexion.open(); mCursor = conexion.getDatabase().query(DataBaseHelper.TABLE_WORD , null , null, null, null, null, Word.NAME); if (mCursor != null) { mCursor.moveToFirst(); } }finally{ conexion.close(); } return mCursor; } For every connection to the DB I open it and close it.

  • How to add deploy.jar to classpath?

    - by dma_k
I am facing the problem: I need to add ${java.home}/lib/deploy.jar JAR file to classpath in the runtime (dynamically from java). The solution with Thread#setContextClassLoader(ClassLoader) (mentioned here) does not work because of this bug (if somebody can explain what is really a problem – you are welcome). The solution with -Xbootclasspath/a:"%JAVA_HOME%/jre/lib/deploy.jar" does not work well for me, because I want to have "pure executable jar" as a deliverable: no wrapping scripts please (more over %JAVA_HOME% may not be defined in user's environment in Windows for example, plus I need to write a script per platform) The solution with merging deploy.jar file into my deliverable works only if I make a build on Windows platform. Unfortunately, when the deliverable is produced on build server running on Linux, I got Linux-dependant JAR, which does not execute on Windows – it fails with the trace below. I have read How the Java Launcher Finds Classes and Java programming dynamics: Java classes and class loading articles but I've got no extra ideas, how to correctly handle this situation. Any advices or solutions are very welcomed. • export a JOGL applet and embedd into a html page

    - by nkint
hi guys it is some time that i'm testing opengl with java and JOGL. now i have good result and i wanto to pubblish it on web. but i have some problem. i'm in eclipse, and i'm testing an Applet with JOGL. first of all i have this run time error (but the program works correctly): java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: adding a window to a container at java.awt.Container.checkNotAWindow(Container.java:431) at java.awt.Container.addImpl(Container.java:1039) at java.awt.Container.add(Container.java:365) at AppletHelloWorld.init(AppletHelloWorld.java:30) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(AppletPanel.java:424) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) then i found this incredibly clear page and i do what is said, i open html with the browser, the libs are downloaded but it stops at "Starting applet AppletHelloWorld" that is the name i gave to my applet. mayebe i miss something like main function or exporting well the jar? this is my main code: public class AppletHelloWorld extends Applet { public static void main(String[] args) { JFrame fr=new JFrame(); fr.setBounds(0,0,1015,600); fr.add(new AppletHelloWorld()); fr.setVisible(true); } public void init() { setLayout(null); MyJOGLProject canvas = new MyJOGLProject(); //MyJOGLProject extends JFrame canvas.run(); Container c = new Container(); c.add(canvas); add(c); } //....

  • Is there a JSON library that can serialize Proxy objects?

    - by gmoore
Using ActiveObjects as my ORM and Gson as my JSON processor. Ran into a problem going toJson from persisted objects. The problem is that my persisted class is actually an Interface and AO is proxying that object under the hood. Here's some sample code: Venue venue = manager.get(Venue.class, id); gson.toJson(venue); Comes up with this exception: java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: Expecting parameterized type, got interface java.lang.reflect.InvocationHandler. Are you missing the use of TypeToken idiom? See http://sites.google.com/site/gson/gson-user-guide#TOC-Serializing-and... Because venue.getClass().getName() gives: $Proxy228 I've tried a few solutions in various combinations: gsonBuilder.registerTypeAdapter(Venue.class, newVenueSerializer()); Type listType = new TypeToken<Venue>() {}.getType(); Nothing has worked so far and I'm using a wonky field-by-field workaround. Any suggestions? I'm not married to Gson, so if there's an alternative library that can do this I'd be happy to use it.

  • How to use Comparator in Java to sort

    - by Dan

  • Java threads, wait time always 00:00:00-Producer/Consumer

    - by user3742254
I am currently doing a producer consumer problem with a number of threads and have had to set priorities and waits to them to ensure that one thread, the security thread, runs last. I have managed to do this and I have managed to get the buffer working. The last thing that I am required to do is to show the wait time of threads that are too large for the buffer and to calculate the average wait time. I have included code to do so, but everything I run the program, the wait time is always returned as 00:00:00, and by extension, the average is returned as the same. I was speaking to one of my colleagues who said that it is not a matter of the code but rather a matter of the computer needing to work off of one processor, which can be adjusted in the task manager settings. He has an HP like myself but his program prints the wait time 180 times, whereas mine prints usually about 3-7 times and is only 00:00:01 on one instance before finishing when I have made the processor adjustments. My other colleague has an iMac and hers puts out an average of 42:00:34(42 minutes??) I am very confused about this because I can see no difference between our codes and like my colleague said, I was wondering is it a computer issue. I am obviously concerned as I wanted to make sure that my code correctly calculated an average wait time, but that is impossible to tell when the wait times always show as 00:00:00. To calculate the thread duration, including the time it entered and exited the buffer was done by using a timestamp import, and then subtracting start time from end time. Is my code correct for this issue or is there something which is missing? I would be very grateful for any solutions. Below is my code: My buffer class package com.Com813cw; import java.text.DateFormat; import java.text.SimpleDateFormat; /** * Created by Rory on 10/08/2014. */ class Buffer { private int contents, count = 0, process = 200; • Is there a Scala version of .irbrc or another way to define some default libraries for REPL use?

    - by Tom Morris
I've written a little library that uses implicits to add functionality that one only needs when using the REPL in Scala. Ruby has libraries like this - for things like pretty printing, firing up text editors (like the interactive_editor gem which invokes Vim from irb - see this post), debuggers and the like. The library I am trying to write adds some methods to java.lang.Class and java.lang.reflect classes using the 'pimp my library' implicit conversion process to help you go and find documentation (initially, with Google, then later possibly with a JavaDoc/ScalaDoc viewer, and maybe the StackOverflow API eventually!). It's an itch-scratching library: I spend so much time copying and pasting classnames into Google that I figured I may as well automate the process. It is the sort of functionality that developers will want to add to their system for use only in the REPL - they shouldn't really be adding it to projects (partly because it may not be something that their fellow developers want, but also because if you are doing some exploratory development, it may be with just a Scala REPL that's not being invoked by an IDE or build tool). In my case, I want to include a few classes and set up some implicits - include a .jar on the CLASSPATH and import it, basically. In Ruby, this is the sort of thing that you'd add to your .irbrc file. Other REPLs have similar ways of setting options and importing libraries. Is there a similar file or way of doing this for the Scala REPL?

  • IE6 transparency+radio button can't be clicked

    - by Jonas Byström
IE6: when I place a partially transparent image in a div, the radio buttons in that div that overlap the non-transparent pixels of the image become unclickable. Example: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <style media="screen" type="text/css"> div { position: relative; width: 500px; height: 300px; _filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/fc/Olympic_flag_transparent.svg/200px-Olympic_flag_transparent.svg.png, sizingMethod='crop'); } input { position: absolute; top: 40px; left: 60px; } </style> </head> <body> <div> <input type="radio" value="1" name="1"/> </div> </body> </html> If you test the code, you can also try moving the button from (60, 40) to (40, 40) where the image is transparent, and voilà - the clicking is back in business again. This bug might, or might not, be related to the IE6 links transparency bug, but I'm not knowledgable enough to grasp any resemblence. Have I done something wrong? Or how can I circumvent? Is there some other option apart from removing the _filter:progid?

  • What is the performance impact of CSS's universal selector?

    - by Bungle
I'm trying to find some simple client-side performance tweaks in a page that receives millions of monthly pageviews. One concern that I have is the use of the CSS universal selector (*). As an example, consider a very simple HTML document like the following: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/> <title>Example</title> <style type="text/css"> * { margin: 0; padding: 0; } </head> <body> <h1>This is a heading</h1> <p>This is a paragraph of text.</p> </body> </html> The universal selector will apply the above declaration to the body, h1 and p elements, since those are the only ones in the document. In general, would I see better performance from a rule such as: body, h1, p { margin: 0; padding: 0; } Or would this have exactly the same net effect? Essentially, what I'm asking is if these rules are effectively equivalent in this case, or if the universal selector has to perform more unnecessary work that I may not be aware of. I realize that the performance impact in this example may be very small, but I'm hoping to learn something that may lead to more significant performance improvements in real-world situations. Thanks for any help!
