  • VirtualBox: Start Firefox in Ubuntu via a Windows script?

    I am using VirtualBox to run Ubuntu 12.04 as a guest in a Windows 7 host. I would like execute a command in Windows that will launch Ubuntu's Firefox. I tried VirtualBox's VBoxManage guestcontrol function. The command seems to do something, but nothing seems to happen in Ubuntu: C:\VirtualBox>VBoxManage.exe guestcontrol MyVirtualMachineUbuntu exec --image "/usr/bin/firefox" --username bob --password password --wait-stdout --verbose Waiting for guest to start process ... Waiting for process to exit ... Exit code=1 (Status=500 [successfully terminated]) The /usr/bin/firefox command works when I run it in Ubuntu. Also, with guestcontrol, I can successfully call /bin/ls. But I can't actually get a major program like Firefox to run. Any ideas? Thanks.

    In a bootloader, the second last line is : TIMES 510-($-$$) db 0 Now, will this command also do the same : db 510-($-$$) DUP (0) If not why? I know what TIMES does, but its not mentioned in my x86 book by Mazidi (Pearson Publication). Any idea why? And what is the meaning of the $ sign exactly? Different sites have different information about $. And is the line TIMES 510-($-$$) db 0 absolutely necessary even if my bootloader code is of 512 bytes in size? So can anyone help me with these questions?

    Hi , I have an application deployed with ClickOnce .Now when i rebuild the application with some changes , and put it in the share folder from where it is installed and launch the appluication it doesnt takes the latest version instead it just launches the old version.     When I create a new ASP.NET project in Visual Studio 2010, it creates the scripts directory, like it should, however the version of JQuery it sticks under the scripts directory is an old version of JQuery. Version 1.36 I believe. How can I update this so that Visual Studio 2010 will include the newest version of jquery? I know I can remove it and manually add it, but I don't want to have to do this everytime I create a new project.

    I want to add version info to my mobile device exe file and apparently the following line is not supported in CF (windows mobile 6.0), ideas?: <Assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("1.0.0.0")> I want to be able to to right-click on the .exe after it is copied over to the PC and have the version displayed in a version tab just like any other .exe. I would then be able to read this version in code from a VB6 program.

    Hi there, I'm using CodeIgniter to develop a new web app, and I'd like to create a mobile version that users get redirect to when they visit it from their phones. The mobile version of the app should have a different flow, so swapping CSS/HTML files in the code is not an option for me since the mobile version and the web version will handle things differently in their Controllers and Views, while sharing the same Models. To check the version of LDAP i go to /ldap and check the version installed as if it is version 5 then there is a directory of the name v5.0 and so on.     I installed apache on ubuntu like so: apt-get install apache2 I initially had installed PHP by doing: apt-get install php5 That gave me php 5.3.x. Now I want to use the latest version php 5.4.x so I installed from source. Through the cli $ php -v outputs the correct version PHP 5.4.3 When I run phpinfo() through the web, I still get php5.3.x. How would I point apache to use my newly installed php instead?

    We have a test server running Windows Server 2008 R2 that I want to put SQL Server 2008 onto. I have an MSDN subscription and thought I could install (x64 version) SQL2008 but the installation warned me this wasn't compatible with this version of windows (reporting that I am running Windows 7). When I log onto my MSDN to download an update the only SQL Server R2 options I have are for Express edition or Enterprise evaluation (I am logged in to subscriber downloads). Is there no standard R2 edition or am I missing something?

    On Mac OS x 10.6.6 I have git installed in /usr/bin/ I wanted to update the got version however the the git installer puts it in /usr/local/git/bin/ I realise I could rearrange to path to point to the local one first but what I do not get is where the /usr/bin version came from. Could it be part of an xcode install and lastly how would I delete correct it. I have looked and looked but find nothing and I didn't install it with ports etc. thanks

    I had a hell of a time installing lxml for python2.7 on centOs5.6. For some background, python2.7 is an alternative installation of python on centOS5.6 which comes with python2.4 installed. it was bulit from source per its instrucitons ./configure make make altinstall However, after about 20 hours of trying I managed to find a workable solution and was able to install lxml. Until, I notice the following error at the top of the interpreter: python2.7: /usr/lib64/libz.so.1: no version information available (required by python2.7) Python 2.7.2 (default, Jun 30 2011, 18:55:26) [GCC 4.1.2 20080704 (Red Hat 4.1.2-50)] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> print 'Sheeeeut!' this error is printed out everytime I run a script. For example: $ ./test.py /usr/local/bin/python2.7: /usr/lib64/libz.so.1: no version information available (required by /usr/local/bin/python2.7) the script runs flawlessly, but this error is bothersome. After some digging I have seem to believe I have a wrong version of libz installed, that it is either an older version or built for a different platform. I'm not quite sure how, I've only installed libz through yum, as far as I know. Although, I can't quite remember every little thing I tried in my twenty hours of trying. I think having it install to /usr/local/ was a poor default choice. However, without the make uninstall option being present it seems to be a time consuming task for a solution I am not quite sure would solve my problem.
