  • Windows VPN for remote site connection drawbacks

    - by Damo
I'm looking for some thoughts on a particular way of setting up a estate of machines. We have a requirement to install machines into unmanned, remote locations. These machines will auto login and perform tasks controlled from a central server. In order to manage patching, AV, updates etc I want these machines to be joined to a dedicated domain for this estate. Some of the locations will only have 3G connectivity (via other hardware), others will be located on customer premises in internal networks. The central server (of ours) and the Domain Controller will be on a public WAN. I see two ways of facilitating this. Install a router at each location and have a site to site VPN between the remove device and the data centre where the servers are location Have the remote machine dial up and authenticate via a Windows VPN connection to the DC via RAS Option one is more costly to setup and has a higher operational cost. It also offers better diagnostics if the remote PC goes down. Option two works well but is solely dependent on the VPN connection been made before any communication can be made to the remote machine. In a simple test, I can got a Windows 7 machine to dial a VPN prior to authentication to a domain, then automatically login to the machine using domain credentials. If the VPN connection drops, it redials. I can also create a timed task to auto connect every hour in case of other issues. I'd like to know, why (if at all) is operating a remote network of devices which are located in various out of band locations in this way a bad idea? Consider 300-400 remote machines all at different sites. I'd rather have 400 VPN connections to a 2008 server than 400 routers, however I'd like to know other opinions on this.

  • Change default directory structure in Plesk

    - by matthewsteiner
So, I have an ftp account setup correctly and it connect just fine. However, when I go to the root directory of the website (I can see "httpdocs" and "conf" and other folders), I can't make a new directory or go into the "conf" directory. I'm sure I need to edit permissions, but how can I do that?

  • optimal folder structure for storing 100k files on a USB drive

    - by cherouvim
I need to store 100k files (around 40GB) in a USB drive. Each file has a unique int id (e.g 45000). Option one is to put all files in a single folder: root/ root/1.pdf root/2.pdf root/3.pdf ... root/567.pdf root/568.pdf root/569.pdf ... root/10001.pdf root/10002.pdf root/10003.pdf ... root/99998.pdf root/99999.pdf root/100000.pdf Option two is to create a [1-9][0-9]* folder hierarchy based on that id: root/ root/1/file.pdf root/2/file.pdf root/3/file.pdf ... root/5/6/7/file.pdf root/5/6/8/file.pdf root/5/6/9/file.pdf ... root/1/0/0/0/1/file.pdf root/1/0/0/0/2/file.pdf root/1/0/0/0/3/file.pdf ... root/9/9/9/9/8/file.pdf root/9/9/9/9/9/file.pdf root/1/0/0/0/0/0/file.pdf Which option will scale better? I can understand that the second option will require tons of folders but each folder will at most contain 10 folders and 1 file. Maintenance will not be an issue since everything will be controlled by an application. Note that this is a USB drive on linux and based on the above I'd also like to know whether I should go with FAT32 or NTFS.

  • Network structure --> Server 2k8r2 <--> Livebox <--> Router <--> Other PCs

    - by Yusuf
I have a Livebox connection to the Internet and I have set up my network as follows: - Livebox <--> Win2k8R2 Server - Livebox <--> Netgear N150 Router - Router <--> Other PCs Therefore, in my LAN, - the Livebox has IP address 192.168.1.1, - the Router 192.168.1.12 (when accessed from the Livebox or the server), - the Router 10.0.0.1 (when accessed from the PCs connected to the Router), - the server 192.168.1.2, - the PCs 10.0.0.x I was using a previous configuration, which was as follows: - Livebox <--> Netgear N150 Router - Router <--> Win2k8R2 Server - Router <--> Other PCs Everything was simple, and I just had to forward all ports for incoming connection on the Livebox to the Router, and then forward the specific ports to the Server as needed (it must be however noted that any server I use is found on the Win2k8R2 server itself). In this previous configuration, the IP addresses were as follows: - Livebox 192.168.1.1 - Router 192.168.1.12 (when seen from Livebox) - Router 10.0.0.1 (when seen from server & PCs connected to it) - Server 10.0.0.2 - PCs 10.0.0.x So now of course, my port-forwarding does not work anymore since the server is not connected (directly) to the Router. What I would like to know is how do I configure the Livebox and Router to still have the features like before? From what I understand of networks (which is very limited, btw), I see these options: Make the router assign IPs like 192.168.1.x (but then I want the forwarding to be done from the router itself, is it possible?) The forwarding on the router to the server uses IP address 10.0.0.2. I could change it to 192.168.1.2 (Is that even possible, does it work?) Forward all ports from the Livebox itself to the server, and then manage them there (Is software-based port-forwarding as secure as hardware-based?)

  • Can't access site internally, but DNS works

    - by BloodyIron
    1) I have apache2 running a vhost for a website. 2) This apache2 instance is already successfuly setup for other websites on it to be accessible internally and externally. 3) I am using an internal bind9 server to resolve the new website's domain internally to the private IP. This bind9 server is not public facing, nor is it the master server on the internet. 4) The DNS internally resolves to the right IP. 5) Firefox reports "server not found". 6) I have copied the config almost identically to other configs that are known to work (adjusting for proper paths of course). In turn I have reloaded and restarted apache2 repeatedly. 7) I have an entry to forward .org .info .net alternative TLDs to .com in the vhost config for this domain, and my browser goes from .org to .com despite note #5. 8) /var/log/apache2/access.log shows when someone externally tries to access the site, but no activity is observed when someone tries to access internally. Changing the log level does not appear to improve the situation. 9) I am out of ideas, nothing appears to be wrong. Please help? To be explicit. Why is this new site unreachable internally? I would like to clarify on something, even though I have already outlined this. YES I know this system is in a private network. NO it is not going through a router. YES I am using an internal DNS server (bind9) to resolve, and YES it does resolve to the proper internal IP. YES other websites on the same server setup in the same way with internal resolution work right now and have done for a while. Everything for this domain is setup the same as the other working domains as far as I can tell. The other working domains are internally AND externally accessible. This domain I am working with is only currently externally accessible. When I go to it internally firefox tells me "Server not found".

  • IIS6 site using integrated authentication (NTLM) fails when accessed with Win7 / IE8

    - by Ciove
Hi, I'm having pretty similar problems as described in case 139099, but the fix there doesn't seem to work for me. Here's the details: Server: Win2003Srv R2 SP2 (stadalone, not a member of a domain). IIS6, TCP/443 (https). Anonymous access disabled. Integrated Windows authentication enabled. Local useraccouts Each useraccount has own virtual folder with change access and read access to site root. The 'adsutil NTAuthenticationProviders "NTLM"' -thing set to site root and useraccount's virtual folder. Client: Win7 Enterprise Member of a AD-Domain IE8 Allows three login attepts then fails. Using [webservername][username] in the logon window (Windows security) Logon using other browsers (Chrome and Firefox) works OK. The Web services log shows one 401.2 and two 401.1 events. The Security Event log shows two events, first is Fauilure Audit (680), The second event is Fauilure Audit (529) with these details: Logon Failure: Reason: Unknown user name or bad password User Name: [username] Domain: [webservername] Logon Type: 3 Logon Process: NtLmSsp Authentication Package: NTLM Workstation Name: [MyWorkstation] Caller User Name: - Caller Domain: - Caller Logon ID: - Caller Process ID: - Transited Services: - Source Network Address: [999.999.999.999] Source Port: 20089 Any ideas appreciated.

  • Migrate to SSD - NTFS mount point for Program Files

    - by Icode4food
Here is my thought. I have a new computer that I just built and am considering migrating to a SSD. I have Windows all setup and my Development environment configured so I want to avoid having to re-install a bunch of stuff. My thought is to clone my OS (win7) to the SSD and then mount a HDD partion to C:\Program Files (x86)\ with C being my SSD. This way as far as the programs are concerned they still live on the C drive but in reality they are physically located on the HDD. This seems to me like a good idea but after searching around a bit and not having found anyone else that had the same idea, I'm wondering why not. Maybe I am missing something that is obvious to everyone but me. Why is this a good or a bad idea?

  • rsync per-site configuration file?

    - by Scott
I know how to configure a per-site entry for ssh, but is there any kind of a client configuration for rsync that allows per-site configuration options and aliases or similar shortcuts like the .ssh/config? I'm curious because I have a minimal ssh server installed on my android phone and I also have a minimal rsync tool on it as well. I'm getting tired of having to root login onto the phone and sym-link both tools to standard places the android OS looks for executables as the ssh server is bare bones and has a typical *bear multi-link binary for the basic unix commands (that does not include rsync) I end up having to include --rsync-path=/path/to/rsync/android/files/rsync every time I want to do any rsyncing of the files on my phone, but this path is always the same. I've gotten around it in the meantime with a glob approach in a shell script wrapper, but this sometimes limits the customization I can do with the rsync call. I'm just wondering if there is anything similar to the .ssh/config file where I can create an alias for my phone (e.g. 'android') where specifying rsync android:/mnt/sdcard will automatically assume --rsync-path=/blah/blah/blah --no-g --no-p --no-t etc. Tre`

  • Copying large Windows directory structure to new server with permissions intact

    - by Chris
I'm soon going to be doing a large migration of an old-school web server that serves mostly ASP pages (currently on a Windows 2003 server) to a newer, virtualized Windows 2008 server. This new server is going to be in a different domain, as well. So I'm copying the root web folder, and all its subfolders and files, to this new server. I'd like to keep permissions intact. It's also pretty massive - I'd like to be able to compress it before transferring to the new server with permissions intact. Any way to do that? And will the new server being in a different AD domain screw with my plans?

  • Do best-practices say to restrict the usage of /var to sudoers?

    - by NewAlexandria
I wrote a package, and would like to use /var to persist some data. The data I'm storing would perhaps even be thought of as an addition for /var/db. The pattern I observe is that files in /var/db, and the surrounds, are owned by root. The primary (intended) use of the package filters cron jobs - meaning you would need permissions to edit the crontab. Should I presume a sudo install of the package? Should I have the package gracefully degrade to a /usr subdir, and if so then which one? If I 'opinionate' that any non-sudo install requires a configrc (with paths), where should the package look (presuming a shared-host environment) for that config file? Incidentally, this package is a ruby gem, and you can find it here.

  • Apache mod_rewrite - remove extension/add trailing slash/preserve directory structure

    - by Henry Wrinkler
I am currently using the following .htaccess file to remove the .php extension from my files and add a trailing slash to all URLs: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.php -f RewriteRule ^([^/]+)/$ $1.php # Forces a trailing slash to be added RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(\.[a-zA-Z0-9]{1,5}|/)$ RewriteRule (.*)$ /$1/ [R=301,L] This is working great, however, when I have a php file in a directory, and I want to serve that file from a directory I get a 404 error. Is there a way to do this with 1 .htaccess file in the root. I really don't want to remember to put a .htaccess file in each directory. Right now www.myexample.com/information/ Serves /information.php. Great! However www.myexample.com/categories/category-1/ this throws a 404 even though the file /categories/category-1.php does exist. I would like to modify my .htaccess file so this serves /categories/category-1.php.

  • Better way to write Apache site-configuration?

    - by user195697
I have a question regarding the config files in /etc/apache/sites-available. For example I have a site configured in there like this: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /usr/share/agendav/web/public ServerName agendav.mysite.tld # Logfiles: CustomLog /var/log/apache2/access_agendav.log combined ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/error_agendav.log LogLevel warn <Directory /usr/share/agendav> Options Indexes DirectoryIndex index.php php_flag magic_quotes_gpc Off php_flag magic_quotes_runtime Off </Directory> </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:443> DocumentRoot /usr/share/agendav/web/public ServerName agendav.mysite.tld SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/apache2/ssl/apache.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/apache2/ssl/apache.key # Logfiles: CustomLog /var/log/apache2/access_agendav_ssl.log combined ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/error_agendav_ssl.log LogLevel warn <Directory /usr/share/agendav> Options Indexes DirectoryIndex index.php php_flag magic_quotes_gpc Off php_flag magic_quotes_runtime Off </Directory> </VirtualHost> As you see the Directory directive is redundant in both http and https part of the site. Is it valid to move the Directory directive at the beginnung so it is valid for both blocks or do I have to keep it in there twice? Thanks!

  • Recomposing data structure in Excel

    - by Velletti
I've got a sheet of 35k rows of the following kind of data that I want to reshape into table below. So, I want to reshape this data in a way to get all the people within a specific GroupID in separate columns. I suppose that I should add a counter for each row within specific group id? Also, I suppose these kind of issues are a lot more comfortable to be done in databases? Since I often have this kind of data, I need be much quicker about solving it, then I am now.

  • Why don't they clean up the Windows folder? [on hold]

    - by NeoLegends
To me, that thing seems like an utter mess, at least most parts. Some are pretty organized (.NET and GAC-Folders), but most of the others (System32) are not. Wouldn't it improve the general developer productivity if they cleaned it all up? In general - I don't know why they didn't stop that folder becoming a huge mess, and why they don't take any efforts to reduce it. (Win 8 Settings App sits in System32 while Store sits in Root directory, iirc) FHS isn't perfect, but it's far better than that...

  • Does "..." have meaning as a relative pathname? (EDIT: No.)

    - by Pup
    1. Is there a relative pathname/directory/folder meaning for the expression "..."? 2. What does "..." refer to in the context cited? I encountered the expression "..." when looking at the installation instructions for http://code.google.com/p/vim-win3264/wiki/Win64Binaries and it says the following (note bolded text): Unzip the zipfile into a directory whose name ends in vim, such as C:\Program Files\Vim, D:\vim, or C:\mytools\vim. This will create a vim72 subdirectory, containing all the files. Start a cmd.exe window, cd ...\vim\vim72, then run install.exe, the command-line installer. This will offer you a series of choices. You can probably just type d to "do it".`                                               Bonus points for listing all relative directory pathnames!

  • Outlook 2010 Folder Structure Search

    - by SaUce
I work at a helpdesk and today I received a call from a user who lost a folder in Outlook. When I connected to the user's PC, I discovered that the user has several hundreds of folders. She had the same name folder in several different locations. When we used Advanced Find we found the messages. It said that messages are located in folder X. The only problem was, we could not locate the folder X in the list. Does anyone know of any way to quickly and easily browse all the folders or look up a folder in Outlook 2010?

  • Explicitly instantiating a generic member function of a generic structure

    - by Dennis Zickefoose
I have a structure with a template parameter, Stream. Within that structure, there is a function with its own template parameter, Type. If I try to force a specific instance of the function to be generated and called, it works fine, if I am in a context where the exact type of the structure is known. If not, I get a compile error. This feels like a situation where I'm missing a typename, but there are no nested types. I suspect I'm missing something fundamental, but I've been staring at this code for so long all I see are redheads, and frankly writing code that uses templates has never been my forte. The following is the simplest example I could come up with that illustrates the issue. #include <iostream> template<typename Stream> struct Printer { Stream& str; Printer(Stream& str_) : str(str_) { } template<typename Type> Stream& Exec(const Type& t) { return str << t << std::endl; } }; template<typename Stream, typename Type> void Test1(Stream& str, const Type& t) { Printer<Stream> out = Printer<Stream>(str); /****** vvv This is the line the compiler doesn't like vvv ******/ out.Exec<bool>(t); /****** ^^^ That is the line the compiler doesn't like ^^^ ******/ } template<typename Type> void Test2(const Type& t) { Printer<std::ostream> out = Printer<std::ostream>(std::cout); out.Exec<bool>(t); } template<typename Stream, typename Type> void Test3(Stream& str, const Type& t) { Printer<Stream> out = Printer<Stream>(str); out.Exec(t); } int main() { Test2(5); Test3(std::cout, 5); return 0; } As it is written, gcc-4.4 gives the following: test.cpp: In function 'void Test1(Stream&, const Type&)': test.cpp:22: error: expected primary-expression before 'bool' test.cpp:22: error: expected ';' before 'bool' Test2 and Test3 both compile cleanly, and if I comment out Test1 the program executes, and I get "1 5" as I expect. So it looks like there's nothing wrong with the idea of what I want to do, but I've botched something in the implementation. If anybody could shed some light on what I'm overlooking, it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Images missing after moving Django to new server

    - by miszczu
I'm moving Django project to new server. I'm newbie in Django, and I don't know where should be upload folder. There are all images which should be displayed on website. In config file I haven't seen upload folder I could specify, so I'm guessing it always should be the same location for django projects or I just can't find it. Locations are saved in database. When I've put uploaded files into media folder, so url was like domain.co.uk/media/upload/media/images/year/month/day/image_name.ext and the same is on the old website, images on website ware still missing. All images are visible if I put url by hand, but django doesn't seems to see files. Also I check django log file: 2012-05-30 09:13:33,393 ERROR render: Thumbnail tag failed: [in /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sorl_thumbnail-11.12-py2.6.egg/sorl/thumbnail/templatetags/thumbnail.py (line 49)] Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sorl_thumbnail-11.12-py2.6.egg/sorl/thumbnail/templatetags/thumbnail.py", line 45, in render return self._render(context) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sorl_thumbnail-11.12-py2.6.egg/sorl/thumbnail/templatetags/thumbnail.py", line 97, in _render file_, geometry, **options File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sorl_thumbnail-11.12-py2.6.egg/sorl/thumbnail/base.py", line 50, in get_thumbnail cached = default.kvstore.get(thumbnail) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sorl_thumbnail-11.12-py2.6.egg/sorl/thumbnail/kvstores/base.py", line 25, in get return self._get(image_file.key) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sorl_thumbnail-11.12-py2.6.egg/sorl/thumbnail/kvstores/base.py", line 123, in _get value = self._get_raw(add_prefix(key, identity)) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sorl_thumbnail-11.12-py2.6.egg/sorl/thumbnail/kvstores/cached_db_kvstore.py", line 26, in _get_raw value = KVStoreModel.objects.get(key=key).value File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/manager.py", line 132, in get return self.get_query_set().get(*args, **kwargs) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/query.py", line 344, in get num = len(clone) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/query.py", line 82, in __len__ self._result_cache = list(self.iterator()) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/query.py", line 273, in iterator for row in compiler.results_iter(): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/sql/compiler.py", line 680, in results_iter for rows in self.execute_sql(MULTI): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/sql/compiler.py", line 735, in execute_sql cursor.execute(sql, params) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/backends/util.py", line 34, in execute return self.cursor.execute(sql, params) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/backends/mysql/base.py", line 86, in execute return self.cursor.execute(query, args) File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/MySQLdb/cursors.py", line 174, in execute self.errorhandler(self, exc, value) File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/MySQLdb/connections.py", line 36, in defaulterrorhandler raise errorclass, errorvalue DatabaseError: (1146, "Table 'thumbnail_kvstore' doesn't exist") 2012-05-30 09:13:33,396 DEBUG execute: (0.000) SELECT `freetext_freetext`.`id`, `freetext_freetext`.`key`, `freetext_freetext`.`content`, `freetext_freetext`.`active` FROM `freetext_freetext` WHERE (`freetext_freetext`.`active` = True AND `freetext_freetext`.`key` = office-closed-message ); args=(True, u'office-closed-message') [in /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/backends/util.py (line 44)] 2012-05-30 09:13:33,399 DEBUG execute: (0.000) SELECT `menus_menu`.`id`, `menus_menu`.`name`, `menus_menu`.`slug`, `menus_menu`.`base_url`, `menus_menu`.`description`, `menus_menu`.`enabled` FROM `menus_menu` WHERE (`menus_menu`.`enabled` = True AND `menus_menu`.`slug` = about ); args=(True, u'about') [in /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/backends/util.py (line 44)] 2012-05-30 09:13:33,401 DEBUG execute: (0.000) SELECT `menus_menuitem`.`id`, `menus_menuitem`.`menu_id`, `menus_menuitem`.`title`, `menus_menuitem`.`url`, `menus_menuitem`.`order` FROM `menus_menuitem` INNER JOIN `menus_menu` ON (`menus_menuitem`.`menu_id` = `menus_menu`.`id`) WHERE `menus_menu`.`slug` = about ORDER BY `menus_menuitem`.`order` ASC; args=(u'about',) [in /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/backends/util.py (line 44)] 2012-05-30 09:13:33,404 DEBUG execute: (0.000) SELECT `freetext_freetext`.`id`, `freetext_freetext`.`key`, `freetext_freetext`.`content`, `freetext_freetext`.`active` FROM `freetext_freetext` WHERE (`freetext_freetext`.`active` = True AND `freetext_freetext`.`key` = contactdetails-footer ); args=(True, u'contactdetails-footer') [in /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/backends/util.py (line 44)] I checked database and there is no table calls thumbnail_kvstore, but I have database backup, and in backup files this table doesn't exist. • WSS 3.0 navigation structure

    - by Dante
Hi all, I'm a beginner in WSS 3.0 and I'm having some problems with the navigation setup. I can't find any documentation that clearly recommends best practices in this area. I'm trying to create an intranet, custom look and feel, that should have a structure similar to: Company - News - News type 1 - News type 2 - Organogram - ... Employees - Employees 1 - Employees 2 - Employees 2_1 - ... How to properly set this up? Company, News, are sites/subsites? And News type 1 and 2 are pages within a site? I created as described above and in the master page of the main site I added some scripts that will be used by web parts, like jquery. The subsites will have their own master page and will not recognize the scripts, I need to add them there which is annoying. Any recommendations? Or some resource that provides best practices setting up these structures? Thx in advance

  • Correct folder structure for sites

    - by Francesca
I've just started tidying up the server for a particular site and am running into some trouble when moving files. I originally had style.css in my main folder, and another folder called images, so paths in the .css went images/myimage.png Now I have moved style.css into another folder called css. So the image links in the CSS no longer work, as it's looking for the folder images from it's own CSS folder. I changed the file path to /images/myimage.png as I thought this would make it climb up a level and then look for the images folder, but this doesn't seem to work. I'm interested to see what solutions people have and also any suggestions on how people organise their folders for a particular site. Thanks!

  • Need help replicating directory structure with ColdFusion and jsTree

    - by Derek
    I am using this new jQuery plugin called jsTree www.jstree.com and using the HTML datasource. I am also using ColdFusion 7 with cfdirectory and filtering out files, so just dirs. I need to recreate the directory structure in the image, well any dir structure I give it actually. I am having a heck of a time with the logic. variables.imageDirectoriesLen = 8 in this scenario cause I am outputting from the middle of the actual file path, not from begining. Thanks for the help. Derek this is what I have so far <cfoutput query="clientImageDirsFilter"> <cfset nextLen = 0 /> <cfset nextDir = "" /> <cfset nextRowCnt = currentRow+1 /> <cfset nextDir = clientImageDirsFilter.directory[nextRowCnt] & "\" & clientImageDirsFilter.name[nextRowCnt] /> <cfset nextLen = listLen(nextDir, "\") /> <cfset currLen = listLen(clientImageDirsFilter.directory & "\" & clientImageDirsFilter.name,"\") /> <cfif currLen eq nextLen> <li rel="folder" id="node_#randRange(1,99999)#"><a href="##"><ins>&nbsp;</ins>#clientImageDirsFilter.name#</a></li> <cfelseif nextLen lt currLen> <cfif nextLen eq 0> #repeatString("</li></ul>",(currLen-nextLen-variables.imageDirectoriesLen))# </cfif> <cfelse> <ul> <li rel="folder" id="node_#randRange(1,99999)#"><a href="##"><ins>&nbsp;</ins>#clientImageDirsFilter.name#</a> <ul> </cfif>

  • ASP.Net MVC View and Controller file structure

    - by Jit
I am very confused the View and corresponding controller has to be set in MVC 1.0 project structure. Currently in a default application we have About.aspx page under Home folder and all the controller action is handled in HomeController. This controller mixes up Home action and About action. It makes things messy. I like to have clear separation of my controller. Like to have one About Controller and HomeCotroller separately. For it I have create another folder "About" under view folder and place Aboput.aspx in it , otherwise we will get the error below. How can I achieve it ?? I like to have exact folder structure as in View, same as in Cotroller. The view 'About' or its master could not be found. The following locations were searched: ~/Views/About/About.aspx ~/Views/About/About.ascx ~/Views/Shared/About.aspx ~/Views/Shared/About.ascx Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: The view 'About' or its master could not be found. The following locations were searched: ~/Views/About/About.aspx ~/Views/About/About.ascx ~/Views/Shared/About.aspx ~/Views/Shared/About.ascx I like to have folders like \iew\About.aspx and Cotroller\AboutController.cs or \View\Info\About.aspx and \Controller\Info\AboutController.cs. This will make my project and code very cleanly placed and good to maintain. Thanks in advance for helping

  • Rails: Single Table Inheritance and models subdirectories

    - by Chris
I have a card-game application which makes use of Single Table Inheritance. I have a class Card, and a database table cards with column type, and a number of subclasses of Card (including class Foo < Card and class Bar < Card, for the sake of argument). As it happens, Foo is a card from the original printing of the game, which Bar is a card from an expansion. In an attempt to rationalise my models, I have created a directory structure like so: app/ + models/ + card.rb + base_game/ + foo.rb + expansion/ + bar.rb And modified environment.rb to contain: Rails::Initializer.run do |config| config.load_paths += Dir["#{RAILS_ROOT}/app/models/**"] end However, when my reads a card from the database, Rails throws the following exception: ActiveRecord::SubclassNotFound (The single-table inheritance mechanism failed to locate the subclass: 'Foo'. This error is raised because the column 'type' is reserved for storing the class in case of inheritance. Please rename this column if you didn't intend it to be used for storing the inheritance class or overwrite Card.inheritance_column to use another column for that information.) Is it possible to make this work, or am I doomed to a flat directory structure?

  • Database structure - is mySQL the right choice?

    - by Industrial
Hi everyone, We are currently planning the database structure of a quite complex e-commerce web app that has flexibility as it's main cornerstone. Our app features a large amount of data (products) and we have run into a slight headache trying to keep performance high without compromizing normalization rules in the database, or leaving our highly beloved flexibility concept behind when integrating product options (also widely known as product attributes or parameters). Based on various references and sources available, we have made up lists on pros and cons of all major and well known database patterns to solve this. After comparing these, we have come up with two final alternatives: EAV (Entity-attribute-value model) : Pros: Database is used for all sorting. Cons: All related queries will include a number of joins between multiple tables in order to complete the collection of data. SLOB (Serialized LOB, also known as Facade?) : Pros: Very flexible. Keeping the number of necessary joins low compared to a EAV design pattern. Easy to update/add/remove data from each product. Cons: All sorting will be done by the application instead of the database. Will use lots of performance (memory?) when big datasets is processed by a large number of users. Our main questions: Which pattern/structure would you use, or maybe even a different solution? Is there better databases besides mySQL available nowadays to accomplish what we want? Thanks a lot!
