• How do I make my play/pause keyboard button work correctly in iTunes 10 on Windows?

  First and foremost, I have mmKeys installed correctly. My iTunes works almost perfect while minimized to the tray. My problem is with the play/pause button on my Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000. When iTunes does not have focus (like it's minimized, or if it isn't the application I'm active in, like right now while typing this) the play pause button toggles twice. So, I'll push the pause button - and the song that is playing will pause, but a split second later will start up again. If the song is paused, and I push play, the song will immediately pause again. In order to get the key to work correctly, I must give iTunes focus, and then push the button.   I have partially downloaded a torrent file in ubuntu and unfortunately i renamed it. and after some time i resumed the remaining torrent file.but the torrent then got downloaded with its default name and i lost the complete file information into two different files... please help me out...is there any way that i can produce the whole information into one file...i can't open either file that means both file got corrupted or so...the file is in mp4 format...please help me

• Is it possible to to create a live linux iso containing a win xp virtual machine?

  I would like to have a Linux live system that contains a Windows xp virtual machine. This would be run from a bootable USB flash drive. My attempts so far have been unsuccessful. I created a Lubuntu 12.04 virtual machine with VMware. I updated and configured it to my needs, and installed Virtualbox. I then created a Windows xp vm with Virtualbox in the Lubuntu vm. I tested everything and everything worked, including USB devices. I installed Remastersys in the Lubuntu vm, copied the xp vm folder to the /etc/skel folder then created the custom iso with remastersys. I burned the iso and tested it on a laptop. It worked flawlessly. All programs and wireless networking worked. My problem was the xp vm. Virtualbox started fine but would not run the vm. I have the following error: Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) Component: VirtualBox Interface: IVirtualBox {c28be65f-1a8f-43b4-81f1-eb60cb516e66}. I ran remastersys again changing the permissions on the skel folder to R W for everyone. I also logged into Lubuntu as root and ran remastersys again. Each iso I created worked fine but would not start the xp vm inside. The last attempt virtualbox gave me an access error stating it can not access the virtual disk. Is what I want to do possible? In theory I don't see why it would not work. Is it a permissions issue? Should I create the iso then add the xp vm after by editing the iso by hand? Using a vm and not real hardware as a build machine a problem? Any ideas? keep any responses in laymens terms. I am still a Linux novice.

  I have a bootable .img file that I want to convert to a bootable .iso file. I downloaded poweriso for Mac and used this command: poweriso convert MyOS.img -o MyOS.iso -ot iso which returned this output: PowerISO Copyright(C) 2004-2008 PowerISO Computing, Inc Type poweriso -? for help MyOS.img: The file format is invalid or unsupported. I thought PowerISO could convert .img to .iso. Was I incorrect, or did I use the wrong commands or something like that?

• Need help making a bootable portable USB hard drive. [Utility I need will only create bootable CDs or USB flash drives]

  I've got a copy of Spotmau's Bootsuite 2012, which is an utterly fantastic tool. It has completely replaced Bart PE for me, and I relied on BPE for YEARS. Anyway, the issue I'm having is that the Bootsuite installer utility will only create bootable USB flash drives, or bootable CDs. The USB hard drive is detected as a hard drive instead of as a USB device, and as such I cannot use the included app to install to the USB HDD. Is there a way of either copying the files from a bootable flash drive to a USB HDD and making that work, or of taking an .ISO of the bootable CD and using that to make the portable HD bootable? The flash drives I've made of it are great as I can always have it with me [have 16GB dangling from my keychain. :) ], but my USB hard drive is FAR faster than any flash drive I have, so I'd like to be able to use that when I'm working out of my office or happen to have it with me.

• Is it possible to put only the boot partition on a usb stick?

  I've been looking at system encryption with ArchLinux and i think I have it pretty much figured out but I have a question about the /boot partition. Once the system is booted up is it possible to unmount the /boot partition and allow the system to continue to run? My thought was to install /boot to a USB stick since it can't be left encrypted and then boot from the USB stick which would boot up the encrypted hard disk. Then I can take the USB key out and just use the system as normal. The reason I want to do this is because if an attacker was able to get physical access to the machine they could modify the /boot partition with a keystroke logger and steal the key and if they already had a copy of the encrypted data they could just sit back and wait for the key. I guess I could come up with a system of verifying that the boot has been untouched at each startup. Has this been done before? Any guidance for implementing it on my own?

• wmp12 refuses to convert files when syncing

  I have quite a large music collection of MP3s at 320kbps and some WMA files at various bitrates. I'm trying to sync some of them to my HTC Desire and am quickly running out of space. WMP12 has options to set, per device you wish to sync, to auto convert to a lower bitrate whilst syncing. I have set this to auto convert files to a maximum bitrate of 192kbps, that way I can fit more music on the device but keep the files on my PC at the higher rate. See these screens to see that it's set up correctly. Only problem is, surprise surprise for a Microsoft product, it doesn't actually work. Any file that is greater than 192kbps, MP3 or WMA simply fails, doesn't get converted or copied to the device. The message in the sync log displays the rather unhelpful message "error" and that's it. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not really looking for alternative software solutions I'd like to get this working since that's what it's supposed to do.

• Why Windows Live Photo Gallery stopped displaying thumbnails, and how to fix it?

  I now get this instead, for most (but not all) photos. This is the icon which represents the WLPG application, I think. Some observations: I can see the thumbnails fine in Explorer, which is where a lot of other people have this problem. My C:\ drive may have temporarily filled up at some point recently, but then was cleaned up. Double-clicking on the photo will display it fine, so I know it's not file corruption or permissions issues. Thanks

• Cannot Ping PS3 Using a Wired Connection

  PS3 is using the inbuilt wireless network adapter (I cannot change this) When I try to ping the PS3 from ANY computer which is on a wired ethernet connection, I get Request Timed Out errors. Whenever I ping from a computer with a wireless connection, it works just fine. To be clear: Pinging from Wireless PC to Wireless PS3 works Pinging from Wired PC to Wireless PS3 fails I have tried this on several PC's and Laptops all with the same results. As an attempted solution I have set up static IP's on all related devices. More information: Default Gateway = 192.168.2.1 PS3(wireless) = 192.168.2.100 PC(wired) = 192.168.2.99 Subnet Mask(for both devices, I have made sure) = 255.255.255.0 Thanks

  My motherboard got fried and I was forced to get a new hardware set (MB+CPU+RAM) so in most likelyhood I'll need to reinstall my Windows 7. I usually follow procedure and put the OS on the primary partition and my data on a logical partition - so I can format the primary without concern - but this time I made a mistakte and left some crucial items on the primary partition. I want to create a bootable CD-ROM/USB Drive which can read NTFS so I can access this data. If booting via a CD-ROM, I would prefer being able to connect a disk-on-key/My Passport to the computer and be able to access it to transfer the data to it. How can I do it? (free 3rd party applications are most welcome)

• What is a good replacement for StumbleUpon's Share feature?

  I've been using Firefox + StumbleUpon's Share feature with my friends for years now. It is a perfect way of sharing links directly with your friends. You first need to be Following each other and then on the SU toolbar, you can "Share" with your list of friends. You can even include a personal message. The friend will receive a notification with # of pending shares in their toolbar (bold & red). They click the stumble button and it will navigate to the site plus show a yellow bar with your message. I literally use it daily. But then Chrome came along and beat the tar out of Firefox (and other browsers) in terms of usability and performance. But it doesn't (and never will according to Google) allow toolbars. StumbleUpon's solution in Chrome is a fake toolbar (html) that gets injected into the page you're viewing. It's buggy and performance is low. Overall it's not an acceptable solution. I'm looking for a replacement with something that is just as easy to send/receive links. I was thinking of Twitter DM's and using a bookmarklet, but I wanted to survey the collective for other options Thanks in advance for your input!

  Hi, I'm trying to build some kind of a social game in facebook, where I need that every user that has approved my APP is able to receive notifications from me. When the user approves my App, I save his UID in the DB for future reference. At some later time, I want to make it possible for other users find partners for a game - so I need a way to pick randomly some user from my DB and check if he's online. Then, send him a message and propose to play with the current player. So 2 questions: How can I check if some user is online, using Javascript SDK? It seems that in the new Graph API I can't get the users' online status. How can I then send him a message and propose to play the game?   Hi i have a social networking website. what i want it to do is pull out my friends status updates. basically what it does is i have a mysql query that pulls out all of my friends and in that while loop there is another mysql query that pulls out the status's from my friends. i want it to be in order of date but since its one while loop in another what it does is pull out all status's from friend 1 then 2 then 3 and not in order by date. i even tried ORDER BY DATE but that just ordered it by date within the friend.. my thought is that i could putt it all in an array and friends is one thing and the values is the stats. then just sort by values would this work and how could i do it. • What is a good measure of strength of a link and influence of a node?

  In the context of social networks, what is a good measure of strength of a link between two nodes? I am currently thinking that the following should give me what I want: For two nodes A and B: Strength(A,B) = (neighbors(A) intersection neighbors(B))/neighbors(A) where neighbors(X) gives the total number of nodes directly connected to X and the intersection operation above gives the number of nodes that are connected to both A and B. Of course, Strength(A,B) != Strength(B,A). Now knowing this, is there a good way to determine the influence of a node? I was initially using the Degree Centrality of a node to determine its "influence" but I somehow think its not a good idea because just because a node has a lot of outgoing links does not mean anything. Those links should be powerful as well. In that case, maybe using an aggregate of the strengths of each node connected to this node is a good idea to estimate its influence? I'm a little confused. Does anyone have any suggestions?
