  • How can I provide links to intranet files through ASP.net?

    Conditions: The files must be opened outside of the window that the link to them is in. I have tried href, but when I give it an intranet link it only opens correctly if I leave out target="_blank"; if I put that in, the new window that opens doesn't receive the full link if there is a pound sign in the filepath... a direct link to the intranet address \a\b\c#c.txt would be fine with me; there is no concern about security, but I can't seem to get that to happen in a new window. It seems like this is happening when I don't create a new window, but I can't utilize the same window to open the links. Any ideas?

  • Links in rounded boxes? In ALL browsers (yep included IE8)

    I tried maaaany script but every time I get stuck in something bad. My goal is to create rounded boxes for links. You can see an example of I'm talking about here in the read more link (effects not necessary). Very common I know, but I want to make it work in eeeevery browsers at least safari, FF, chrome and most important IE7+ (IE6 not necessary...). The script that took me closest to the solution is Cornerz but I can't fix a very bad issue on IE8. Does anybody knows a way to get rid of this or to achieve my goal?   • .htaccess causes links on page to try an open a BIN file?

    My friend's site which I agree to tech-advise, is psychtalkonline.com. You can go check it out, it's an anonymous forum (miniBBS) running Apache on Unix. I at first had a problem with mod_rewrite but then I uploaded the .htaccess file. However, that seemed to cause problems. If you click on any link, you will get a pop-up saying "You have chosen to open which is a BIN file". If you click the source code, and click on the links in the source code, you will see that it goes to the BIN file. I'm not really sure what's going on. I really would appreciate some help. Thanks.

  • Prevent blank links (having javascript:;) from openening in new tab/window on middle click...?

    There is a common practice of using <a></a> tags to markup beautiful buttons, with onlick and onhover style change, etc. Which looks and behaves great, on most part. Although there turned out to be a HUGE problem, which was not very obvious on start. The problem is that these beautiful "buttons" open new windows on middle click, either blank or with the same content as current one (depends on whether one uses # or javascript:; to disable href part). Now I've got JavaScript RIA with buttons all over it, opening new windows on middle click... Lame... At first I even couldn't understand why I get sometimes those blank pages in the browser. Since it's pretty established practice to use links in such manner, maybe there is any established way to deal with described problem?

  • For external links on my webpage, should I use a redirector page or just link direct to the external

    Hello, just wondering if I should be using a 'redirector' type page or link directly to the external pages on my site http://www.onedaysalefinder.co.nz/ - currently I use a redirector page to track what links are being clicked on (which simply takes an ID, looks up the URL in the database, and then does a Response.Redirect(URL); From a SEO point of view, is this a good idea/bad idea? I understand it can add a few milliseconds extra to the external page load time whilst it looks up the actual URL, but am not too concerned about this. I also get the benefit of tracking the clicks accurately, but are the pros/cons of using a redirector vs the actual link? Am I worrying about something I don't need to? Thanks

    So i created a web site a long time ago using a designer alot like frontpage + expression design put together, and since then Ive gotten more into coding, and I'm learning html, CSS, and all that good stuff.. and i have this re-designed header that Ive made here: http://prntscr.com/8zct So what I need to know, is how i can get it so that when a user clicks on one of the links in the header design it will redirect to a page. and also if possible, how to make it so when a user hovers over a link a drop down may appear with other options. As me being quite new to this sort of stuff, could anybody help me achieve this? PS. I'm working in Visual Studio with ASP. but that doesn't change anything about the html and css stuff. just letting you guys know.

    Some of my users download several pdf files from an internet website regularly. They'd like to automate the process to save a few minutes every day, and most importantly, to minimize errors. I tried mechanize but failed as mechanize does not process javascripts. Since the download links in the remote site are all triggered by javescript, I am looking for solutions to automate the browser itself.   • Is there a way to have a dynamic google map that opens links in _blank?

    I came up with a good solution for a client showing a google map iFrame using the normal google maps embed. Only problem? They want the links inside the iFrame to open in a new window instead of there on the page. So, I used the static API to come up with a static image of a map and have that link to the google maps site with target="_blank". Great, but they don't get the pretty draggable map. Is there a way to do what I want using the google maps API? I'm reading the API documentation but without actually trying it I'm not sure if it can be done, and would love it if someone with some experience with the API can point me in the right direction or just tell me why it's WAY not worth the effort.

  • Any suggestions in a way to parse headers and links from blog pages using C#?

    I'm currently self-studying C# in my free time and thought of a "little" project to get me going (and one that I or others will actually find useful). It ended up being more complicated than I thought. Or maybe I'm just thinking it is? Anyway, this project would parse the homepages of the blogs (most of them are Wordpress blogs) I frequent to, take the post headers and the links within those posts and notify me via a balloon tip in the task bar. I can handle the rest except for the way of getting C# to parse the HTML pages for the items I need. C# doesn't seem to have no built-in way to do this. Could anyone point me to the right direction? I just looked into the HTML Agility Pack but I'm still trying to figure it out. Some example code will help much too. Thanks in advance!

    I often browse news aggressors like Reddit.com and I want to be able to have one Firefox window open on each of my two screens, and when I middle click on a link on my left screen, it will open up the tab on my right firefox window. I know that there are some plugins that can open up new windows, but if I do that I'll have to many windows open and I'd rather manage my open news stories via tab bars rather than with windows (clearer, more efficient to browse, and easier to bookmark). Is there a Firefox addon with which I can middle click on a link and it will open it in a new tab in my other window?

However whenever I click a link embedded in a pdf document I'm viewing with Adobe Reader 8.2.1 I get a popup security warning asking if this is ok, and then the Reader opens the link in IE. Is there a way to change Adobe Readers default browser?

  • Why do Google search results include pages disallowed in robots.txt?

    I have some pages on my site that I want to keep search engines away from, so I disallowed them in my robots.txt file like this: User-Agent: * Disallow: /email Yet I recently noticed that Google still sometimes returns links to those pages in their search results. Why does this happen, and how can I stop it? Background: Several years ago, I made a simple web site for a club a relative of mine was involved in. They wanted to have e-mail links on their pages, so, to try and keep those e-mail addresses from ending up on too many spam lists, instead of using direct mailto: links I made those links point to a simple redirector / address harvester trap script running on my own site. This script would return either a 301 redirect to the actual mailto: URL, or, if it detected a suspicious access pattern, a page containing lots of random fake e-mail addresses and links to more such pages. To keep legitimate search bots away from the trap, I set up the robots.txt rule shown above, disallowing the entire space of both legit redirector links and trap pages. Just recently, however, one of the people in the club searched Google for their own name and was quite surprised when one of the results on the first page was a link to the redirector script, with a title consisting of their e-mail address followed by my name. Of course, they immediately e-mailed me and wanted to know how to get their address out of Google's index. I was quite surprised too, since I had no idea that Google would index such URLs at all, seemingly in violation of my robots.txt rule. I did manage to submit a removal request to Google, and it seems to have worked, but I'd like to know why and how Google is circumventing my robots.txt like that and how to make sure that none of the disallowed pages will show up in their search results. Ps. I actually found out a possible explanation and solution, which I'll post below, while preparing this question, but I thought I'd ask it anyway in case someone else might have the same problem. Please do feel free to post your own answers. I'd also be interested in knowing if other search engines do this too, and whether the same solutions work for them also.

  • Implementing a popularity algorithm in Django

    I am creating a site similar to reddit and hacker news that has a database of links and votes. I am implementing hacker news' popularity algorithm and things are going pretty swimmingly until it comes to actually gathering up these links and displaying them. The algorithm is simple: Y Combinator's Hacker News: Popularity = (p - 1) / (t + 2)^1.5` Votes divided by age factor. Where` p : votes (points) from users. t : time since submission in hours. p is subtracted by 1 to negate submitter's vote. Age factor is (time since submission in hours plus two) to the power of 1.5.factor is (time since submission in hours plus two) to the power of 1.5. I asked a very similar question over yonder http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1964395/complex-ordering-in-django but instead of contemplating my options I choose one and tried to make it work because that's how I did it with PHP/MySQL but I now know Django does things a lot differently. An answer from that question seems to think I should put the algorithm in the select and sort then. I am going to paginate these results so I don't think I can do the sorting in python without grabbing everything. Any suggestions on how I could efficiently do this?   • Why does my CGI script keep redirecting links to localhost?

    Visit this page http://online-file-sharing.net/tos.html and click one of the bottom footer links. It redirects you to your localhost in the address bar. I have no idea why it does this. This is in the main script that my entire website revolves around: upload.cgi $ENV{PATH} = '/bin:/usr/bin'; delete @ENV{'IFS', 'CDPATH', 'ENV', 'BASH_ENV'}; ($ENV{DOCUMENT_ROOT}) = ($ENV{DOCUMENT_ROOT} =~ /(.*)/); # untaint. #$ENV{SCRIPT_NAME} = '/cgi-bin/upload.cgi'; use lib './perlmodules'; #use Time::HiRes 'gettimeofday'; #my $hires_start = gettimeofday(); my (%PREF,%TEXT) = (); No file is displayed when someone visits the root directory, although I have a .htaccess file saying to open my upload.cgi file which is located in my root directory. When I point my browser directly to the CGI file it works but it brings me to my localhost again. I'm hosting this website on my own server, which is this computer, and using XAMPP if this information helps. I'm also using DynDNS as my nameservers. I hope you can give me some insight.

    this may be a stupid question as I can't seem to find an answer :P Is there a way with javascript/jQuery to Target all links on a page ONLY if they link to the current page? Say i've got a static sidebar on ALL pages, for intents and purposes: <ul id="sidebar"> <li><a href="/one">One</a></li> <li><a href="/two">Two</a></li> <li><a href="/three">Three</a></li> </ul> Notice the code for ALL of them is the same.
