• How to include an external jar in a GWT module?

  I would like to use the org.apache.commons.validator.GenericValidator class in a view class of my GWT web app. I have read that I have to implicitely tell that I intend to use this external library. • MSDeploy: error using runCommand provider to call remote .cmd file (timeout)

  We are running into an error when trying to use the MSDeploy "runCommand" provider to execute a .cmd file on a remote machine. The expected run time should be about 10 seconds, but MSDeploy only runs it for about 2-3 seconds, after which time error details are returned. Here is the complete MSDeploy "runCommand" command line text I am using: msdeploy.exe -verb:sync -source:runCommand="D:\web deploy tester\test_cmd.cmd",dontUseCommandExe=false,waitAttempts=5,waitInterval=1000 -dest:auto,computername=http://test-machine:89/MsDeployAgentService/,userName=aaa,password=bbb Here are the error details returned: Error 'Error: (4/21/2010 12:19:25 PM) An error occurred when the request was processed on the remote computer. • How to set ActiveModel::Base.include_root_in_json to false?

  I'm using Rails 3 w/ Mongoid, (so no ActiveRecord). Mongoid uses ActiveModel's "to_json" method, and by default that method includes the root object in the JSON (which I don't want). I've tried putting this in an initializer: ActiveModel::Base.include_root_in_json = false But get the error uninitialized constant ActiveModel::Base Any ideas how I can change this? I changed the default directly in the source-code and it worked fine, but obviously I'd like to do it properly. The variable is defined at the top of this file: Github - activemodel/lib/active_model/serializers/json.rb From the docs: "The option ActiveModel::Base.include_root_in_json controls the top-level behavior of to_json. It is true by default."

  First time when I tried to do something in WPF, I was puzzled with WPF DataBinding. Then I studied thorougly next example on MSDN: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms771319(v=VS.90).aspx Now, I quite understand how to use Master-Detail paradigm for a form which takes data from one source (one table) - both for master and detailed parts. I mean for example I have a grid with data and below the grid I have a few fields with detailed data of current row. But how to do it, if detailed data comes from different but related tables? for example: you have a Table 'Users' with columns - 'id' and 'Name'. You also have another table 'Pictures' with columns like 'id','Filename','UserId'. And now, using master-detail paradigm you have to built a form. And every time when you chose a row in a Master you should get all associated pictures in Details. What is the right way to do it? Could you please show me an example?

  I have a dll build with target framework 3.5 that manage reports; this dll use the version 10.5.3700.0 of CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine Now, I have created a new wpf application based on .NET framework 4.0 and I added the report dll reference to project. I had to install the Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 library (http://www.businessobjects.com/jump/xi/crvs2010/default.asp) to build the application without errors...now it builds success, but the report print don't work.   What is the difference between Claims based authentication vs What is provided by OAuth. I am looking for conceptual difference and not technical difference. When do I choose Claims over OAuth and vice versa. Claims based authentication is proposed by Microsoft and build on top of WS-Security. But OAuth is more a open source protocol that is being proposed to allow fetching resources from different portals based on a security token. Claims also has this concept of token (SAML encoded or X509 certificates). I am trying to understand when do I choose Claims over OAuth and vice versa. Thanks

  I have a source object that looks like this: private class SourceObject { public Enum1 EnumProp1 { get; set; } public Enum2 EnumProp2 { get; set; } } The enums are decorated with a custom [Description] attribute that provides a string representation, and I have an extension method .GetDescription() that returns it. How do I map these enum properties using that extension? I'm trying to map to an object like this: private class DestinationObject { public string Enum1Description { get; set; } public string Enum2Description { get; set; } } I think a custom formatter is my best bet, but I can't figure out how to add the formatter and specify which field to map from at the same time.

• How to organize Python modules for PyPI to support 2.x and 3.x

  I have a Python module that I would like to upload to PyPI. So far, it is working for Python 2.x. It shouldn't be too hard to write a version for 3.x now. But, after following guidelines for making modules in these places: Distributing Python Modules The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Packaging it's not clear to me how to support multiple source distributions for different versions of Python, and it's not clear if/how PyPI could support it. I envisage I would have separate code for: 2.x 2.6 (maybe, as a special case to use the new buffer API) 3.x How is it possible to set up a Python module in PyPI so that someone can do: easy_install modulename and it will install the right thing whether the user is using 2.x or 3.x?

  I need to load aspx page into jQuery UI's modal dialog window. I used following approach: load page content via ajax call into dialog's div and show it: $.get('Page.aspx', function(response){ $('#dialog').html(response); $("#dialog").dialog('open'); }); but I've got very strange error (IE8) in line 137215738 (!): 'theForm.elements.length' - is null or not an object. JS debbuger says that source code is not available for such location. I have an assumption that this error happens because of multiple 'form' tags that appears on page after ajax call I wonder, how can i fix this? However, looking in the esb.config file, there is no section, like there is for the other esb SSO applications. Why might this section (and therefore the SSO app) be missing? How can I set it up? • Creating a dynamic proxy generator – Part 1 – Creating the Assembly builder, Module builder and cach

  I’ve recently started a project with a few mates to learn the ins and outs of Dependency Injection, AOP and a number of other pretty crucial patterns of development as we’ve all been using these patterns for a while but have relied totally on third part solutions to do the magic. We thought it would be interesting to really get into the details by rolling our own IoC container and hopefully learn a lot on the way, and you never know, we might even create an excellent framework. The open source project is called Rapid IoC and is hosted at http://rapidioc.codeplex.com/ One of the most interesting tasks for me is creating the dynamic proxy generator for enabling Aspect Orientated Programming (AOP). In this series of articles, I’m going to track each step I take for creating the dynamic proxy generator and I’ll try my best to explain what everything means - mainly as I’ll be using Reflection.Emit to emit a fair amount of intermediate language code (IL) to create the proxy types at runtime which can be a little taxing to read. It’s worth noting that building the proxy is without a doubt going to be slightly painful so I imagine there will be plenty of areas I’ll need to change along the way. Anyway lets get started…   Part 1 - Creating the Assembly builder, Module builder and caching mechanism Part 1 is going to be a really nice simple start, I’m just going to start by creating the assembly, module and type caches. The reason we need to create caches for the assembly, module and types is simply to save the overhead of recreating proxy types that have already been generated, this will be one of the important steps to ensure that the framework is fast… kind of important as we’re calling the IoC container ‘Rapid’ – will be a little bit embarrassing if we manage to create the slowest framework. The Assembly builder The assembly builder is what is used to create an assembly at runtime, we’re going to have two overloads, one will be for the actual use of the proxy generator, the other will be mainly for testing purposes as it will also save the assembly so we can use Reflector to examine the code that has been created. I’ve spent a fair amount of time thinking about the type of collection I should use to store the types and have finally decided that for the time being I’m going to use a generic dictionary. This may change when I can actually performance test the proxy generator but the time being I think it makes good sense in theory, mainly as it pretty much maintains it’s performance with varying numbers of items – almost constant (0)1. Plus I won’t ever need to loop through the items which is not the dictionaries strong point. Hopefully they should be clear enough, the Get is a TryGet as I do not want the dictionary to throw an exception if a proxy doesn’t exist within the cache. Other than that I’ve decided to create a key using the SHA1CryptoServiceProvider, this may change but my initial though is the SHA1 algorithm is pretty fast to put together using the provider and it is also very unlikely to have any hashing collisions. (there are some maths behind how unlikely this is – here’s the wiki if you’re interested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHA_hash_functions)   Anyway, that’s the end of part 1 – although I haven’t started any of the fun stuff (by fun I mean hairpulling, teeth grating Relfection.Emit style fun), I’ve got the basis of the DynamicProxy in place so all we have to worry about now is creating the types, interceptor classes, method invocation information classes and finally a really nice fluent interface that will abstract all of the hard-core craziness away and leave us with a lightning fast, easy to use AOP framework.   I have a production environment which require access through a proxy server. Occasionally said server returns blank responses badly confusing the Metro web service library causing all kinds of interesting RuntimeExceptions. I believe the proxy is Squid. In order to handle these better, I would like to set up a similar scenario here with a local proxy under my control causing all kinds of interesting failures. A quick survey strongly indicated I was not asking right. So, the question is, is there a simple, open source HTTPS/HTTP whatever proxy written in Java suitable for this purpose?

After some debugging I pinpointed my problem to line 50 of WebFormViewEngine.cs: protected override bool FileExists(ControllerContext controllerContext, string virtualPath) { try { object viewInstance = BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath(virtualPath, typeof(object)); return viewInstance != null; } For reasons unknown to me, BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath tries to find masterpage.aspx.vb file which does not exist because MVC application is published. What makes BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath behave this way, and how to debug? I've tried this with new blank MVC project. After publishing it and stopping at above location, BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath creates an instance without trying to compile anything.

• WPF Combobox textbox not updating when binding changes.

  I have a WPF CombBox as follows: <ComboBox ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource myList}}" SelectedItem="{Binding Path=mySelectedItem}" /> The problem I have is that when the bound value changes, the selected value in the combobox's textbox does not update. (Note - the values in the combobox list do update). I am using MVVM so I can detect in the view model when the binding changes and call a property changed event and this is updating the combobox, but not the value displayed within the textbox. I think this could be done in the template of the combobox - somehow make the textbox be bound to the selecteditem of the combobox, or always update when it updates? I don't know how to do this though so any advice would be most appreciated.

• Running Xcode Applications without installing Xcode

  I know nothing about Xcode, except it's a Developer interface from Apple that actually comes on OSX CD and it's used to create iPhone apps as well. I also know it have a Applications folder, filled with little utilities, that are indeed quite useful. I tried grabbing one of them and running, without installing Xcode but it doesn't work. It brings an error and a Problem Report from which I believe the relevant part is this: Dyld Error Message: Library not loaded: @rpath/DevToolsInterface.framework/Versions/A/DevToolsInterface I've tried, of course, locating that "framework", with no success. Well... I guess it's probably possible to install Xcode, get that utility source, if it exists somewhere, and compile for stand-alone. But that goes beyond my point. I just want to know if there's somewhere I can get those utilities and/or make them run without needing to install Xcode at all.

• why is LZMA SDK (7-zip) so slow

  I found 7-zip great and I will like to use it on .net applications. I have a 10MB file (a.001) and it takes: 2 seconds to encode. Now it will be nice if I could do the same thing on c#. I have downloaded http://www.7-zip.org/sdk.html LZMA SDK c# source code. I basically copied the CS directory into a console application in visual studio: Then I compiled and eveything compiled smoothly. So on the output directory I placed the file a.001 which is 10MB of size. Why is it 10 times slower than the actual program ? Also Even if I set to use only one thread: It still takes much less time (3 seconds vs 15): (Edit) Another Possibility Could it be because C# is slower than assembly or C ? I notice that the algorithm does a lot of heavy operations. For example compare these two blocks of code. • Using Twain Dot Net in XBAP (Deployed via ASP.NET)

  First Version: Is there a way to use Twain Dot Net in a XBAP (WPF in browser)? Second Version: I have a setup exe (installation) that puts TwainDotNet.dll and TwainDotNet.Wpf.dll on client machine and registers them in GAC (using gacutil.exe). I have also a XBAP page on my server (IIS). (The XBAP part of the project works fine locally and I am using those 2 twin libraries registered in GAC locally too. And on client machine I have registered my generated certification in Trusted Root and Publishers. I have tested my XBAP without Twin libs on the client machine(s) and it works fine; test XBAP edits a text file on client machine hard). Now; when I browse my XBAP on a client, I get : "Error getting information about the default source: Failure"; which I think happens in GetDefault of DataSource class. Is there any work around? • Compile Delphi component package (bpl) for different Delphi versions

  Hello. The situation is the following. Typically I use RAD Studio 2010 for Delphi development. I have some components I would like to redistribute in binary form (*.bpl without source). But I would like people to be able to use them despite of their Delphi version. But, for example, dcu files can be used only by compiler version, which generated them. Almost the same situation is with bpl files as I know. Every bpl file will require corresponding VCLXX.bpl library depending on Delphi version. How do I make my bpls, compiled in 2010 to be able to be used in Delphi7, 2007 etc? Is the only solution to have ALL Delphi versions installed and compile bpl files separately in each?

• Winform ListView databind

  Hi, I have a Listview that uses databind. I set the DataSource property to a binding source. All works fine. The problem is that I need to have a column that is not databinded and contains only buttons that have the same handler for click event. To accomplish this I tried to add a subitem that is a button for each ListViewItem after InitializeComponent but doesn't work, nothing is displayed. Also I set the list view column type to Control. If I add elements to ListView and isn't databinded that the buttons appear. So it will be a great help for me to know if buttons could be displayed in column that is not databinded when the listview uses databinding for rest of columns. Thanks!

  Hello, I'm writing a WinForms app, and am trying to bind a boolean property on a .NET object to a Checkbox's "checked" property.
