• Google Analytics checkout page tracking problem

  I am running a multilingual website, each lang on a different domain name. I am trying to lead all purchase requests to the checkout progress, which has its own domain too. In order to keep Google Analytics tracking I've updated the Google Analytics code accordingly. I set the source domain to 'multiple top-level domains'. Everything is going fine so far unless in E-commerce Overview; the "Sources / Medium" is always showing as (direct) - or the name of the source domain. Since I am redirecting using PHP header(location:.. etc.) the Google _link method doesn't seem to be working properly - I want to focus on two questions: Should I create a new profile for the checkout domain in Google Analytics? (I am now using the profile ID of the source domain even though I move to the checkout domain, si that OK?) When I'm trying to pass the cookies of the source domain to the checkout domain, I notice that the Google cookies are copied to the new domain (the cookie path is .checkout-domain/) and they have the same values of the original cookies - But for some reason another set of cookies is created once I access a page with google analytics code in the checkout pages, with different values (same path). Feels like I'm doing something wrong here, so my question is - What am I doing wrong here? Does anyone have an idea how to pass the cookies to the checkout domain?

• HP Envy webcam pictures all purple

  I have a new HP Envy 15 with an integrated webcam, running Win 7. It works, but all the images are purple, suggesting to me that the red and blue guns are working, but the green isn't. The problem shows up on both their own software and on Skype. I talked to tech support, and they had me update the BIOS, reinstall the hardware BIOS for the webcam, and update the webcam software. It therefore sounds like a hardware problem, but they won't back that unless I do a full restore, which would wipe my disk of all the software I've spent the last couple of weeks configuring. Is there anything else I can try? Other than just buying another webcam, I mean. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• Almost at our first year anniversary!

  It has been a hectic first year at Vizioz and things are still going from strength to strength. 11 months ago I started Vizioz with zero capital investment in the middle of a recession, which to some may seem a daunting prospect but to others including myself it was the challenge I needed to make me want to get up in the morning :) I wanted to prove that even in the curent financial climate it is still possible to start a new business.We are still experiencing the normal growing pains of a small business but this is something we just need to work our way through, it is amazing how much paperwork and administration there is running a small business, office admin, insurance, vat and for the last few months PAYE.For the last 9 months we have shared an office with another small business called Little Big Ideas. They are a design agency working across a broad spectrum of design from branding, print and digital. Last month we decided to move offices to a larger office and now have room for 8 of us, so now we need a couple more clients to help produce enough work to fill the space and grow to the next level.As well as moving office 2 months ago I blogged about my first employee Colin starting work for me, he has picked up Umbraco very well and has mastered the art of good CSS design, as the majority of our clients are large multi-nationals they still require support for IE6 which as all web developers know is the nightmare of all web browsers.This month has seen the next step in the growth of Vizioz as I have taken on another PhD graduate called Pricilla, welcome to the team!This month we plan to launch our own website to enable us to showcase some of the sites we have built over the past 11 months and to allow potential clients to see what we can offer. We might still be relatively small but we have some great case studies to show and with two PhD graduates on the team we have great talent capable of producing complex and innovative solutions for our clients. • Installing XP through USB-to-IDE/SATA connector?

  Hello To help someone reinstall a corrupt XP install on his IDE or SATA drive in a older desktop box (hence no Vista/W7), I was thinking of asking him to bring his harddrive and meet at Starbucks, and I would install a brand new XP by connecting it to my laptop, and booting it up with the XP install CD. If someone's already used a USB-to-IDE/SATA connector such as this one by Sabrent: Does the XP CD accept installing Windows to an external IDE/SATA through USB? Does USB 2.0 provide enough power to run an external IDE/SATA drive, or do I need to provide the drive with its own power (in which case, how?)? Thank you.

• Why My Adsense Account is not accepted

  I have created a blog on blogger few days ago and created two blog entries on it. when i try creating AdSense account with blog's address it does not accept the application due to PageType. i have searched around on the net and found that its probably due to duplicate or insufficient content on the blog but either of my blog entry is more than 2,000 words and i have literally typed 80 percent of its content with only few code blocks copied from other sites. • Meinberg ntp for Windows - force more frequent updates?

  I have a Windows VM that has time drift problems, and left to its own devices will drift by minutes per day. I know there are issues with time on VMs, but I was hoping using the Meinberg NTP service would be successful. It works, generally, in that the time gets corrected in one big step about once every 70mins when it's at about 10mins offset. This has totally confused me as I thought NTP was meant to drift gently back towards the right time, and panic and die if the offset was more than 3 minutes. So (a) what is happening and (b) how do I make it update more regularly?

• How do you author HDR content?

  How do you make it easy for your artists to author content for an HDR renderer? What kinds of tools should you provide, and what workflows need to change, in going from LDR to HDR? Note that I'm not asking about the technical aspects of implementing an HDR renderer, but about best practices for creating materials and lighting in HDR. I've googled around a bit, but there doesn't seem to be much about this topic on the web. Can anyone point me to some good resources on this, or share their own experiences? Some specific points: Lighting - how can lighting artists pick HDR light colors? Do they have a standard LDR color picker and then a multiplier? Is the multiplier in gamma or linear space? Maybe instead of a multiplier it's a log-luminance? Or a physical brightness level, like the number of lumens? How will they know what multiplier/luminance/brightness is "correct" for a given light? Materials - how can texture artists make emissive color maps, such as neon signs, TV screens, skyboxes, etc? Can you paint one as a regular LDR (8-bit-per-channel) image and apply a multiplier (or log-luminance, etc.)? Are there cases where it's necessary to actually paint HDR images? If so, how do you go about this in Photoshop (or other software)?

• How to install Awesome WM without root access?

  I want to install the Awesome window manager. In the environment where I want to configure it I don't have root access. I do have a machine were I can be root (I use for this a virtual machine in my laptop). I have tried the following: $ sudo apt-get install awesome The following packages are about to be installed: awesome libev3 libid3tag0 libimlib2 liblua5.1-0 libxcb-icccm1 libxcb-image0 libxcb-keysyms1 libxcb-property1 libxcb-randr0 libxcb-xinerama0 libxcb-xtest0 libxdg-basedir1 menu rlwrap Do you want to continue [Y/n]? n I do now have the list of dependencies for awesome, so I downloaded them all. As I do have root access in this machine, I ran it with privileges: $ sudo dpkg --root=$HOME/root --recursive -i /tmp/x_debs Then I had a lot of stuff (i.e., everything: dependencies and the own WM) installed inside $HOME/root. Particularly, xcb-* libraries were installed in $HOME/root/usr/lib and the awesome binary in $HOME/root/usr/bin/awesome. If I try to execute awesome as is I get as an error that libraries could not be loaded. That's normal, as they are not in /usr/lib nor in /lib. So I ran export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$HOME/root/usr/lib:$HOME/root/lib:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH} and awesome would try to load. However, I could not make gdm to run awesome within gnome or replacing it. I did it this way so I can copy everything in my $HOME/root folder, paste it in the other machine and have it running. Is there any other way (to have less wasted space maybe..) to do this? How can I tell gdm to exec awesome without root access?

• Adding a forum to an existing site

  I've got a site with ~500 registered members, 300 of which are what you'd call "active". Site data is kept in a MySQL dbase. I'd like to add a myBB forum to the site, but this question applies to any forum really. What I very much want to avoid is requiring my users to register both on the site and on the forum because my userbase is not technically literate and this would confuse a lot of them. However the forum software has its own registration, login, cookie, and password management system which naturally are different from the site's mechanics. I envision the following possibilities: install myBB into the existing database and customize the login code to unify the two systems. This would probably mean changing the site's code to use the myBB system as that would likely be less painful to refactor and wouldn't hurt future myBB upgrade ability. install myBB into separate database and write a bridging script of some sort that auto-registers existing site users with the forum if they elect to participate. Also check new forum registrations against the site's username list to prevent newcomers from taking existing names. run them fully separate and force users to re-register (easiest for ME, but least desirable for them) I would like a suggested course of action from those who have trod this path before... • Programming as a minor

  Hello Everyone! I've never asked a question here at programmers, and for reasons which will become obvious later I've never answered one here, but I do poke around in short bursts. Anyway, I'm 15 right now, and I've been programming in C++ for 4 years, just working on my own projects that are aim so high as to never be finished. I've been working on a single project for the last year, and every 3 months, I add a new system into it. It might be a value tabling directory enabled log system, or a render system, or a class to load up xml files, whatever it is, I don't mind too much that the overall project (a 3d engine) isn't ever going to get finished, I just get some satisfaction from getting what I have done building and running. I don't know what I want to do when I grow up, although I suspect I'll go into some form of engineering, but I was interested in knowing if I do choose to go into a career as a developer, what kind of material I could look at to push myself up and get myself experience that might help my career later. I'm not talking about books in particular, I'm more interested in subjects areas that will get me access to good job opportunities, or that will give me a hand-up if I do computer science and software related courses at uni. One of the things I was thinking of doing was designing some of the logic gate components of a small computer - which I started briefly over the holidays, working out integer addition, subtraction and multiplication. That kind of stuff interests me, but is it really useful - or more useful then just more programming? But anyway, Any advice? Should I continue on my perpetual 3d engine? Are there any other projects or particular accomplishments that would help my education? Perhaps I should mention that I live in Perth, Australia, so local software companies are likely to be more scarce then usual.

• Send individual e-mails to each contact in Gmail?

  I'm trying to send an e-mail to a group of contacts in Gmail (200 recipients, no spam). Is there a way to force Gmail to send the e-mail as 200 individual e-mails, each addressed to that specific person in the list? But I'm trying to protect their privacy: Sending to a contact group puts all their e-mail addresses in the To: field. Adding their addresses to the cc: field means everyone can see all the addresses. Adding their addresses to the bcc: field means that no one sees their address (not even their own) in the to: field. That looks odd and seems like that would trigger a lot of spam filters. So how can I force Gmail to send the e-mail addressed specifically to each contact in the list?

• Accessing localhost on IIS7 from another computer on the network

  I recently upgraded computers to Windows 7 Professional and am running IIS7. When I'm on my computer I can easily access localhost through my web browser but when I try from another computer on my network (replacing localhost with my computer name) it doesn't work. I also tried using "computername.domain.com" and still no luck. I can access other computers running Windows XP and IIS 5 but I'm having no luck accessing my own from another computer. I checked and my IIS7 has anonymous users enabled. Am I missing any other setting? Is this an IIS7 thing or am I missing a setting? Thanks in advance!

• how can I stop my sonicwall TZ-210 (SonicOS Enhanced 5.5.1.0-5o) from responding to arp queries on the wan subnet?

  My sonicwall TZ-210 is answering arp queries on the wan subnet (which my isp doesn't like), basically mapping all the wan ips to its own mac address, causing network havoc since it is not set to route those back to the main isp gateway. How the heck can I turn this behavior off? I have already entered in all wan subnet ips in the static arp cache and left them 'unpublished' which I presumed would mean that it did not bother answering arp queries for them. Apparently it did not do the trick. Arp queries are still being answered unfortunately. What can I do? Any suggestions?

• Advice on designing a robust program to handle a large library of meta-information & programs

  So this might be overly vague, but here it is anyway I'm not really looking for a specific answer, but rather general design principles or direction towards resources that deal with problems like this. It's one of my first large-scale applications, and I would like to do it right. Brief Explanation My basic problem is that I have to write an application that handles a large library of meta-data, can easily modify the meta-data on-the-fly, is robust with respect to crashing, and is very efficient. (Sorta like the design parameters of iTunes, although sometimes iTunes performs more poorly than I would like). If you don't want to read the details, you can skip the rest Long Explanation Specifically I am writing a program that creates a library of image files and meta-data about these files. There is a list of tags that may or may not apply to each image. The program needs to be able to add new images, new tags, assign tags to images, and detect duplicate images, all while operating. The program contains an image Viewer which has tagging operations. The idea is that if a given image A is viewed while the library has tags T1, T2, and T3, then that image will have boolean flags for each of those tags (depending on whether the user tagged that image while it was open in the Viewer). However, prior to being viewed in the Viewer, image A would have no value for tags T1, T2, and T3. Instead it would have a "dirty" flag indicating that it is unknown whether or not A has these tags or not. The program can introduce new tags at any time (which would automatically set all images to "dirty" with respect to this new tag) This program must be fast. It must be easily able to pull up a list of images with or without a certain tag as well as images which are "dirty" with respect to a tag. It has to be crash-safe, in that if it suddenly crashes, all of the tagging information done in that session is not lost (though perhaps it's okay to loose some of it) Finally, it has to work with a lot of images (10,000) I am a fairly experienced programmer, but I have never tried to write a program with such demanding needs and I have never worked with databases. With respect to the meta-data storage, there seem to be a few design choices: Choice 1: Invidual meta-data vs centralized meta-data Individual Meta-Data: have a separate meta-data file for each image. This way, as soon as you change the meta-data for an image, it can be written to the hard disk, without having to rewrite the information for all of the other images. Centralized Meta-Data: Have a single file to hold the meta-data for every file. This would probably require meta-data writes in intervals as opposed to after every change. The benefit here is that you could keep a centralized list of all images with a given tag, ect, making the task of pulling up all images with a given tag very efficient

• Panning with the OpenGL Camera / View Matrix

  I'm gonna try this again I've been trying to setup a simple camera class with OpenGL but I'm completely lost and I've made zero progress creating anything useful. I'm using modern OpenGL and the glm library for matrix math. To get the most basic thing I can think of down, I'd like to pan an arbitrarily positioned camera around. That means move it along its own Up and Side axes. Here's a picture of a randomly positioned camera looking at an object: It should be clear what the Up (Green) and Side (Red) vectors on the camera are. Even though the picture shows otherwise, assume that the Model matrix is just the identity matrix. Here's what I do to try and get it to work: Step 1: Create my View/Camera matrix (going to refer to it as the View matrix from now on) using glm::lookAt(). Step 2: Capture mouse X and Y positions. Step 3: Create a translation matrix mapping changes in the X mouse position to the camera's Side vector, and mapping changes in the Y mouse position to the camera's Up vector. I get the Side vector from the first column of the View matrix. I get the Up vector from the second column of the View matrix. Step 4: Apply the translation: viewMatrix = glm::translate(viewMatrix,translationVector); But this doesn't work. I see that the mouse movement is mapped to some kind of perpendicular axes, but they're definitely not moving as you'd expect with respect to the camera. Could someone please explain what I'm doing wrong and point me in the right direction with this camera stuff?

• Http 400 'Bad Request' and win32status 1450 when larger messages are sended to a WCF service

  we sometimes receive Http 400 bad request resultcodes when posting a large file (10mb) to a WCF service hosted in IIS 6. We can reproduce this using SOAP UI and it seems that it is unpredictable when this happens. In our WCF log the call is not received, so we believe that the request does not reach the ASP.NET nor WCF runtime. This happens on multiple websites on the same machine each having their own application pool. All IIS settings are default, only in ASP.NET and WCF we allow bigger readerQuota's etc.... The win32status that is logged in the IIS log is 1450 which we think means "error no system resources". So now the question: a) how can we solve this b) (when a is not applicable :) ) which performance counters or logs are usefull to learn more about this problem? greetings, Tim

• conky stopped displaying after daul monitors setup -- works when I detect monitors

  I just recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a clean install. I previously was using 11.10. I am also using a new laptop with a Dell docking-station and two external monitors. When I try to use the .conkyrc file that I used previously, my conky display simply doesn't show up anywhere. However, after I went to System Settings Displays and made some slight change that caused the monitors to refresh, then conky appeared as it should. • Windows Explorer view style via GPO or registry edit

  I'm having some difficulty adjusting the default view style in windows explorer (e.g. list, detail, large icon, small icon). There does not seem to be any pre-baked GPOs for this and next to no documentation on the subject outside of using GUI configuration tools built into windows explorer. Does anyone know the specific registry keys that need to be edited for this? I've already taken a look at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Settings but the adjustments I've made there don't seem to make any change on their own.

• Red Dot Scope Makes Sighting In Long Lenses a Snap

  If you’ve ever used a high power lens, you know how tricky it can be to sight a distant subject as the field of view through the lens is so tiny. This hack takes care of that problem by using a zero-magnification red dot rifle scope. Chris Malcolm enjoys photographing birds and other wildlife with high power lenses. The problem, when shooting with huge 500mm lens and other high power lenses, is that they’re practically telescopes and acquiring a fast moving target like a bird using a through-the-lens technique is very tricky. Malcolm’s solution hinges on mounting a zero-magnification red dot rifle scope in parallel with the lens. His mock up is a bit unpolished (although we can understand not wanting to run out and buy a brand new black scope just for the experiment) but works great to get him on target. • Sonicwall settings for Polycom TFTP

  I'm switching our VoIP phones (Polycom 301s and 501s) to our data network. They were previously segmented to their own network. This means disabling the DHCP on the Trixbox (Asterisk) server and configuring the Sonicwall TZ 210 DHCP to indicate that Trixbox is the TFTP server. The Polycom phones are stating "could not contact boot server". All phones are configured to TFTP and were confirmed working when previously using the Trixbox server for DHCP. Trixbox DHCP is now turned off. I've configured options 66(as String), 128(as IP) and 150(as IP) in DHCP and added them to a TFTP Option Group. I've enabled "Allow BOOTP Clients to use Range" for the Dynamic IP range and assigned the Option Group TFTP as the DHCP Generic Option Group. Any idea what I'm missing? Is there a separate tool to inspect the DHCP response to compare Trixbox to the Sonicwall?

• Safari MAC proxy bypass for IPv6

  I'm a first-time n00b on Mac ; (but have been doing computers since before PC's). This Mac has 2 VLANs, vlan0 in IPv4, vlan1 in IPv6. Safari can surf via IPv4 squid proxy OK. Safari can surf via IPv6 natively, if I switch off the proxy, OK. How do I set up the Settings - Network - Interface - Advanced - Proxies to "bypass" IPv6 ? Current Settings include variations along the lines of ... "*.local, 10.0.0.0/8, 192.168.0.0/16, 172.16.0.0/12 , ::, ipv6 " but don't work as expected. I want Safari to go out on its own with IPv6, not crash at the proxy with "malformed URL" Thanks, //rhi
