• how to stop outgoing email spam

  running an email system using roundcube, with about 200 people using it. 99% of them do as they are told and only email clients they have already spoken to, however 1% of them decide to bulk spam bcc emails, which then tripped an aol filter and almost got us banned from our host. I have disabled the guys account but I am worried about something similar happening in the future, what would be the best way to stop this? I read that if aol recieve 3 emails within 60 seconds from the same ip address then its an instant ban, so i am guessing with the big companies like google, their email accounts must have different ip addresses? and if so is there any way to implement a similar feature? Also i have spam assasin enabled, in this case what would be the best configuration for it?

• Restore e-mail from "junk e-mail" folder

  I'm using MS Office Outlook 2007. I check my "Junk E-mail" folder ~once a month. This time I found that my whole google groups correspondence is there. I right-clicked a message and pressed "Add sender to safe senders list". Hopefully, the future messages to this group will be delivered to my inbox. The problem is with the messages that are already in the junk folder. Is there a way to resort my junk folder automatically, to have e-mails from senders listed on my safe list being recovered from the junk folder and moved to e.g. Inbox folder ? Thanks in advance.

• Dynamic real-time pathfinding with C# and unity

  A buddy and I are working on a simple 2D top down arena combat game similar to OpenGLAD (grew up on ye olde GLADIATOR). Thing is, we want to make some substantial deviation from our source of inspiration, including completely destructible/changeable terrain. Like rivers that can be frozen, walls which can be knocked down, etc. As well as letting players and NPC's build new terrain objects, some of which cannot be moved through or seen through. So I'm tasked with creating the AI, starting with pathfinding. Because of all the changeable terrain, we need something that can check to see if the player/other NPC's are in line of sight, and which can then check to find current paths around existing terrain, without getting completely confused by new terrain popping up, and old terrain vanishing, and even capable of breaking through terrain. A lot of that will just be filling in the framework of the feature, but I really just don't know where to start. What I'm really looking for are relevant websites, books, articles, or keywords to google. I just can't quite find a direction to start in, because most pathfinding types we've googled up just won't give us even the most basic level of robustness we need.

• Problem after system update. Root permission denied, user lib permission denied.

  As I updated opensuse 11.1 with update packages from october and november 2009, I couldnt use the command ping. For root it gives Permission denied and for a regular user I get libresolv.so.2: cannot open shared object file: Permission denied. The other coulprit besides the update could be the instalation of google-chrome (.deb file to .rpm, some symbolic links for libs to make chrome work). When the system rebooted, X server also became blank. Before the reboot it worked, as did chrome, but the ping command didnt work even before the reboot. Any ideas? I ran some sort of disk check from a rescue CD, libresolv seems as other libs, root has uid=0 ...

• File downloaded from IIS6/Win2003 server to a Mac (and not PCs) is incredibly slow

  We have a test zip file on our customers server that we host for him that when downloading to a Mac is incredibly slow. On a Mac - trying the download via Safari 5.0.3 and Chrome 8.0.552.231 results in a quick burst of normal download speed then plummets to almost no speed at all after 1 or 2 meg (between 1 and 5 Kb/s - yes, KiloBITS per second! According to the network monitor). Downloading via Windows was fine and speedy. Tested via; IE7 7.0.5730.13 and Chrome Portable 8.0.552.224 On Windows XP Pro, and; IE8 8.0.7600.16385 in a Windows 7 virtual machine running via VirtualBox 4.0.0 r69151 on the same Mac mention above Google hasn't helped us out on this occasion, possibly because the search terms I'm having to use are quite generic. Has anybody ever experienced this and if so how do we fix it? Thanks in advance

• UTF-8 encoding problem with flash mysql and php

  Hi, As you may know, I am programming an on-line game using FLASH. I am connecting my FLASH 8 movie with MySQL database through PHP. I am doing very good in that, and I have everything working fine. The problems come when I am trying to insert (Using the INSERT SQL func) data to the database that are non-english. In other words, UTF-8 data. I red a lot of articls about that stuff and found and apply the fallowing: 1. In PHP4, you need to tell the PHP to use UTF-8 when using the xml_parser_crater() func, however, in PHP5 that is done automatically. Even though I told PHP5 to use the UTF-8 when calling the func. Adding the header to the XML sent to PHP from flash. Force the FLASH to use UTF-8 encoding in the preference options. Set the encoding in MySQL to UTF-8 (utf8_unicode_ci with InnoDB engine). I can read and insert the other language data correctly in the phpadmin as well. I did all that in my coding, and still I can't insert such data. one more strange thing is that, when I use the same link, that the FLASH using, with the XML, that the FLASH creating, on the browser (google chrome), I got the data inserted right in the database!!!!! I am about to get crazy about that stuff, What am I missing? what cause the problem? Thank you in advance.

  I have a windows 2008 system and it always keep ::1 in first of the dns setting. I can see the following in "ipconfig /all": DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . . : ::1 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 and "Obtain dns server address automatically" option in network interface setting is disabled. I installed active directory once and uninstalled now, I think it's the reason. But I can't find any answer from google or bing how to fix.

• Is there a pattern or best practice for passing a reference type to multiple classes vs a static class?

  My .NET application creates HTML files, and as such, the structure looks like variable myData BuildHomePage() variable graph = new BuildGraphPage(myData) variable table = BuildTablePage(myData) BuildGraphPage and BuildTablePage both require access data, the myData object. In the above example, I've passed the myData object to 2 constructors. This is what I'm doing now, in my current project. The myData object, and it's properties are all readonly. The problem is, the number of pages which will require this object has grown. In the real project, there are currently 4, but the new spec is to have about 20. Passing this object to the constructor of each new object and assigning it to a field is a little time consuming, but not a hardship! This poses the question whether it's better practice to continue as I have, or to refactor and create a new static class for myData which can be referenced from any where in my project. I guess my abilities to use Google are poor, because I did try and find an appropriate pattern as I am sure this type of design must be common place but my results returned nothing. Is there a pattern which is suited, or do best practices lean towards one implementation over another.

This is the problem I got from some PDF available on Google that simply had the following problem statement: Problem Statement: A library contains books and journals. The task is to develop a computer system for borrowing books. In order to borrow a book the borrower must be a member of the library. There is a limit on the number of books that can be borrowed by each member of the library. The library may have several copies of a given book. It is possible to reserve a book. Some books are for short term loans only. Other books may be borrowed for 3 weeks. Users can extend the loans. 1. Draw a use case diagram for a library. 2. Give a use case description for two use cases: • Borrow copy of book • Extend loan Diagram: Use case description: 1. Borrow a copy of the book: If the person wishes to borrow a book from Derpville Public Library, he/she must be a member of the library in which case they will be allowed to issue a certain number of books. If the person is not a member, the book will not be issued to them for taking away, rather they will have to sit and read in the library. 2. Extending loan: Some books will be lent for 3 weeks while others will be lent for more than 3 weeks in which case the person borrowing has to come to the library and get the date extended. There is a limit on how much the user can extend the date of a particular book.

• XMLPad – a new tool in my developer utility belt

  Yesterday I was on the lookout for a free tool that would help me write XPath statements. I put a shout out on Twitter and Johan Barnard replied saying : Give XMLPad a try http://www.wmhelp.com/xmlpad3.htm I’m sure there are legions of developers out there that know all about XMLPad but I had never heard about it so I suspect some of you reading haven’t either. Today I downloaded it to give it a run out and I gotta say – I love it. I only used it to do one thing –constructing an XPath expression to point to a particular Configuration definition in a .dtsx file- and it allowed me to do that with consummate ease. The feature I particularly loved was that, similar to Google Suggest, it showed me results from my expression as I typed. Here is a screenshot of my XPath expression to find (and just try saying this in a hurry) the value of a property whose DTS:Name attribute equals ‘ConfigurationString’ of a Configuration definition where the value of that Configuration definition’s property whose DTS:Name attribute equals ‘ObjectName’, equals ‘BIConfig My XPath expression: /DTS:Executable/DTS:Configuration[DTS:Property[@DTS:Name=’ObjectName’]=’BIConfig’]/DTS:Property[@DTS:Name=’ConfigurationString’] and believe me, there was no way I would have been able to come up with that without a tool to help me! • VMWare Server 2 Install is Failing w/ Error 25032: "failed to customize windows logon process"

  VMWare Server 2 install question here.* Straightforward question that would probably require a VMWare expert to pull apart, given that Google has been totally worthless on this. On a patched Windows XP machine, any attempt to install VMWare Server 2.0.1 results in failure, just prior to completion (progress bar is full but I can tell network adapter stuff hasn't been fired yet and most of the services haven't been instaled). The error: Error 25032. Failed to customize Windows logon process (). Please contact your administrator. Upon dismissing the error, you're treated to: Warning 25033. Failed to remove Windows logon customization (VMGINA.DLL). Please contact your administrator. Clicking "OK" rolls back your installation. Killing the installer and hoping that it somehow leaves a working install behind was also unproductive. *I hope install troubleshooting isn't outside the purview of serverfault, I'm typically an SO user.

  I have a network that is connected to the internet via a switch connected to a router. I have it setup like this so I can work on the new network without causing problems on the old. Anyway, I'm trying to enable internet connection sharing. Internet comes to server like this: Modem - Router - Switch - Ubuntu 11.10 (Eth0) I want to share the connection through Eth1 (Eth1 - Managed Switch - Clients). Here is my config for /etc/network/interfaces: I have a DHCP server running on Eth1.   Following instructions from the following website: http://code.google.com/p/support/wiki/ImportingFromGit I'm trying to migrate a git repository to svn, but during the "git rebase master tmp" step it fails with the following error after apply the first few patches: $ git rebase master tmp First, rewinding head to replay your work on top of it... Applying: Imported Applying: Cleaned up the readme file Applying: fix problem with versions fatal: unable to write file foobar mode 120000 Patch failed at 0003 fix problem with versions When you have resolved this problem run "git rebase --continue". If you would prefer to skip this patch, instead run "git rebase --skip". To restore the original branch and stop rebasing run "git rebase --abort". I understand that 120000 may refer to a symlink, but Subversion has supported symlinks for a long time now. Subversion installed is 1.6.5, Git is 1.6.3.3. Running on Ubuntu Linux. The system is not running out of disk space and this operation is taking place within my home directory so permissions should not be an issue.

• extra configuration needed after installing SSL certificate?

  We recently developed two rather simple PHP applications for AXA (European bank). URL's are axa.tfo.be/incentives/cipres and axa.tfo.be/incentives/zrkk (access to both sites is restricted to visitors with cookies with encrypted passwords) On a previous security audit by an external company several security issues have been found. All these issues have been solved by a collleague PHP developer. However, one last requirement has been added - all data should be transfered over https. My php collegue is on holiday, however - and unavailable at the moment. So I contacted my host, and asked for installing SSL certificate. I myself have no knowledge/experience with SSL, so I'm a bit at loss for the following problems. Comodo SSL certificate + unique IP address has been installed today by my webhost for subdomain axa.tfo.be (by www.combell.be). However, it doesn't seem to be working. I posted a question about this earlier today, and was told not to worry, see link: http://serverfault.com/questions/339320/what-happens-if-you-install-an-ssl-certificate Current problems: the web applications aren't accessible over https, http works though (if a valid cookie is available) there's a static html page at http://axa.tfo.be/incentives/cipres/static.html, even that page is only accessible over http My webhost is telling me that 'my application probably doesn't support SSL', and has asked me to set an SSL variable to true in my php code. So my questions: I have basic knowledge of php, but don't know where to start regarding the 'php ssl variable'. The sites have been online for some time, and have been developed for regular php access. (Google didn't bring me any help, either.) Can anyone point me in the right direction, or give me some clues about whether/what I should ask my webhost for further assistance? (I'm a bit on a tight schedule, the sites will be audited again on monday, and it's a customer i wouldn't want to loose...) • Running 12.04 as a gateway - resolvconf, dhclient and dnsmasq integration

  I have a gateway server which is set up originally with Ubuntu desktop 12.04 - perhaps a mistake, I don't know, something to bear in mind. I ripped out network-manager and now want to get resolvconf, dhclient and dnsmasq to play well together. dhclient gets the gateway's eth0 WAN ip address and the ISP DNS name server from the modem. dnsmasq needs to serve dhcp to the rest of the lan on eth1 and acts as a DNS cache both for the lan and for the gateway machine. I also set up iptables as a firewall. Right now, the gateway's /etc/resolv.conf shows only name server = 127.0.0.1 which is correct AFAIK. However I don't think that dhclient is giving dnsmasq the ISP DNS name server nor is dnsmasq picking up the OpenDNS and Google name servers I specified in /etc/network/interfaces - at the moment look-ups, i.e. ping or surfing, don't work unless I manually edit /etc/resolv.conf to put in an upstream name server like 8.8.8.8 So I removed the resolvconf package. Now I'm not getting dhcp on my lan and I'm not able to do DNS look-ups on the host itself - I can surf and ping on the net, but not 127.0.0.1. Where do I go from here? This setup with the config for dhclient and dnsmasq, and the same resolv.conf and hosts files worked on my old debian box.

• How to find location of installed library

  Background: I'm trying to build my program but first I need to set up libraries in netbeans. My project is using GLU and therefore I installed libglu-dev. I didn't note location where the libraries were located and now I can't find them.. I've switched to Linux just a few days ago and so far I'm very content with it, however I couldn't google this one out and becoming frustrated.. Is there way to find out where files of package were installed without running installation again? I mean if I got library xxx and installed it some time ago, is there somecommand xxx that will print this info? I've already tried locate, find and whereis commands but either I'm missing something or I just can't do it correctly.. for libglu, locate returns: /usr/share/bug/libglu1-mesa /usr/share/bug/libglu1-mesa/control /usr/share/bug/libglu1-mesa/script /usr/share/doc/libglu1-mesa /usr/share/doc/libglu1-mesa/changelog.Debian.gz /usr/share/doc/libglu1-mesa/copyright /usr/share/lintian/overrides/libglu1-mesa /var/lib/dpkg/info/libglu1-mesa:i386.list /var/lib/dpkg/info/libglu1-mesa:i386.md5sums /var/lib/dpkg/info/libglu1-mesa:i386.postinst /var/lib/dpkg/info/libglu1-mesa:i386.postrm /var/lib/dpkg/info/libglu1-mesa:i386.shlibs Other two commands fail to find anything. Now locate did it's job but I'm sure none of those paths is where the library actually resides (at least everything I was linking so far was in /usr/lib or usr/local/lib). The libglu was introduced just as example, I'm looking for general solution for this problem.

I cant understand Java provides a subclass of URLConnection that provides support for HTTP connections. This class is called HttpURLConnection. • Java issues on OpenVZ Ubuntu 11.04 (.jar/.sh files)

  I've had a whole line of messes with java and .jar files. I've tried both OpenJDK (from software installer) and about three repositories for Sun. /Desktop# java -jar -Xmx1024m ss.jar Exception in thread "main" java.awt.HeadlessException at java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment.checkHeadless(GraphicsEnvironment.java:173) at java.awt.Window.<init>(Window.java:476) at java.awt.Frame.<init>(Frame.java:419) at java.awt.Frame.<init>(Frame.java:384) at javax.swing.JFrame.<init>(JFrame.java:174) at org.powerbot.bd.<init>(Unknown Source) at org.powerbot.Boot.main(Unknown Source) Two separate errors: ~/Desktop# ./ss.sh [SEVERE] org.server.Boot: Default heap size of 490m too small, restarting with 768m and about 30 different crashes were it just "aborts" with a huge file dump. Each time I've tried something a little different, whether it be updating Java or just changing -Xmx1024 to -Xmx1024m to get rid of the heap. Personally I think it has something to do with OpenVZ, but Google hasn't saved me this time, I need someone who can get to the bottom of my problem. java -version java version "1.6.0_26" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode) is my current install.
