  • Overlaying image also fades when images change in IE6 jQ slideshow

    - by Hege Rokenes
I have a pretty basic slideshow fading between images. On top of that slideshow I have a logo that is absolute positioned to stay partly over the slideshow. It works perfectly, but then there is IE6. In IE6 the part of the logo that is overlaying the slideshow also fades when the images change in the slideshow. I really do not want to have half the logo in all the pictures in the slideshow, but that seems to be the only solution right now. Demo of the problem here: http://nonstopas.no/temp/slideshow/ Note that this happens a bit inconsistently (or so it seems), so watch it for a couple of rounds.

  • Server Side Javascript

    - by XGreen
Hi all, I can't help to see in many sites I visit the enthusiasm about server side javascript and the appealing look of a single language governing all tiers of the site. Mozilla Rhino, Aptana Jaxer and various John Resig's articles are some of the highlights of my search. I wanted to ask for some input from you guys on SO. your opinions and preferably experience in this. I do most of the data access and business logic currently either with asp.net or php depending on the hosting package of the client. Is anyone among you who's gave up these for ssjs?

  • Which is the most memory leak safe approach.

    - by MattC
I have a table of frequently updated information. This is presented using a container div with a div for each row, each row containing 10 divs. I am using setInterval to call a an asmx webservice that returns some json formatted information. On the success callback I call $("#myContainer").empty(); on the container div and recreate the rows and 10 nested divs for each row's columns. This page may be left to run for a whole day, so I am wary of updating the DOM like this as I have noticed that memory does rise for the browser over time (IE8). The other approach I am considering is to add an idea to the row div. When new results process each item of data, look for the corresponding row, if it exists overwrite the data in each div. If it doesn't exist (new data for example), append the row. What approaches have others used for this sort of long lived pseudo realtime information display. TIA

  • JSON Feed Appears to be XHR when it should be JS

    - by Oscar Godson
I don't get why it'd doing this with the 2nd feed (appearing as a XHR call rather than just JS [looking at it in Firefox/Firebug]). The 2nd feed has the exact same MIME type as Flickr's JSON feed, yet the PortlandOregon.gov one shows as XHR and i get a NULL callback when using $.getJSON and if i use $.ajax with a 'json' or 'jsonp' type i get nothing at all. If i do the Flickr one i get the normal "[object Object]" callback. Whats going on? Please help! This has been such a headache for about a week. And i have authorization to change the feed, but i have to request the change, so if anyone knows for absolute sure let me know that! • Pass array to client side for display

    - by Skoder
Hey, I have an array which contains around 50-200 hyperlinks. How can I pass this array to the client-side so that I can iterate through the array and display each hyperlinks as a list item? The array will be stored in 'Application' as it's system wide and rarely changes. Could there be a more efficient way of achieving the hyperlinks as a list? Thanks

  • Detect if visitor is on index page with client side scripting

    - by sterling
Is it possible to detect if a visitor is on the index page or domain root with client side scripting? I figure javascript would be the best method as I would like to append a value to an image file based on wether a visitor is on the home page or not. Non-index page: <img src="/img/logo.png" /> Index page: <img src="/img/logo-home.png" />

  • Is it better to have client (Javascript) processing HTML rather than C# processing HTML?

    - by Raja
We are in the process of building a huge site. We are contemplating on whether to do the processing of HTML at server side (ASP .Net) or at the client side. For example we have HTML files which acts like templates for the generation of tabs. Is it better for the server side to get hold of content section (div) of HTML load the appropriate values and send the updated HTML to the browser or is it better that a chunk of data is passed onto client and make Javascript do the work? Any justification with respect to either ways will be helpful. Thanks.

  • Better way to "find parent" and if statements

    - by Luke Abell
    I can't figure out why this isn't working: $(document).ready(function() { if ($('.checkarea.unchecked').length) { $(this).parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().removeClass('checked').addClass('unchecked'); } else { $(this).parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().removeClass('unchecked').addClass('checked'); } }); Here's a screenshot of the HTML structure: http://cloud.lukeabell.com/JV9N (Updated with correct screenshot) Also, there has to be a better way to find the parent of the item (there are multiple of these elements on the page, so I need it to only effect the one that is unchecked) Here's some other code that is involved that might be important: $('.toggle-open-area').click(function() { if($(this).parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().hasClass('open')) { $(this).parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().removeClass('open').addClass('closed'); } else { $(this).parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().removeClass('closed').addClass('open'); } }); $('.checkarea').click(function() { if($(this).hasClass('unchecked')) { $(this).removeClass('unchecked').addClass('checked'); $(this).parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().removeClass('open').addClass('closed'); } else { $(this).removeClass('checked').addClass('unchecked'); $(this).parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().removeClass('closed').addClass('open'); } }); (Very open to improvements for that section as well) Thank you so much! Here's a link to where this is all happening: http://linkedin.guidemytech.com/sign-up-for-linkedin-step-2-set-up-linkedin-student/ Update: I've improved the code from the comments, but still having issues with that first section not working. $(document).ready(function() { if ($('.checkarea.unchecked').length) { $(this).parents('.whole-step').removeClass('checked').addClass('unchecked'); } else { $(this).parents('.whole-step').removeClass('unchecked').addClass('checked'); } }); -- $('.toggle-open-area').click(function() { if($(this).parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().hasClass('open')) { $(this).parents('.whole-step').removeClass('open').addClass('closed'); } else { $(this).parents('.whole-step').removeClass('closed').addClass('open'); } }); $('.toggle-open-area').click(function() { $(this).toggleClass('unchecked checked'); $(this).closest(selector).toggleClass('open closed'); }); $('.checkarea').click(function() { if($(this).hasClass('unchecked')) { $(this).removeClass('unchecked').addClass('checked'); $(this).parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().removeClass('open').addClass('closed'); } else { $(this).removeClass('checked').addClass('unchecked'); $(this).parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().removeClass('closed').addClass('open'); } });

  • Javascript event detection

    - by Ben Shelock
I can't find any good documentation on this suprisingly so I'm posting it here. What's the raw javascript equivilent to this: $(elem).click(function(){ alert(this.text()); }); All I can find is this <elem onlick="func()" /> which is not what I want, I want to be able to do it just with javascript not within the context of an element.

I was looking over the code for qunit. My question is why would you want to attach the qunit object via property to window object. Here is the link to the file. Look at line 11. If I look at a unit test run using firebug you can see it is a property of window.

  • Selecting element by data attribute

    - by zizo
Is there an easy and straight-forward method to select elements based on their data attribute? For example, select all anchors that has data attribute named customerID which has value of 22. I am kind of hesitant to use rel or other attributes to store such information, but I find it much harder to select an element based on what data is stored in it. Thanks!

  • Trying to add AddThis to multiple items through JavaScript

    - by Mantorok
    I have to add an AddThis chunk to a bunch of controls, the reason I'm doing this through JS is because the addthis: attributes cause XHTML validation errors, so I wrote a JS script that takes the control I want to add the html into and some other bits: function AddExternalLinks(control, url, title) { $(control).html("<div class'addthis_toolbox addthis_default_style'><a class='addthis_button_facebook'" + " addthis:url=" + url + " addthis:title=" + title + " addthis:description=" + title + "></a>" + "<a class='addthis_button_twitter' " + " addthis:url=" + url + " addthis:title=" + title + " addthis:description=" + title + "></a></div>" + "<script type='text/javascript' src='http://s7.addthis.com/js/250/addthis_widget.js#username=cornwallweb'></script>"); However this does not work, the html is added fine but the script fails with the following error: *c._Queuer is not a constructor [Break on this error] if(!window._ate){var _atd="www.addthis...(c) 2008, 2009, 2010 Add This, LLC / addthi...wallweb (line 2) Any ideas? • How do I include 2 tables in LocalStorage?

    - by Noor
I've got a table that you can edit, and I've got a simple code saving that list when you're done with editing it. (the tables have the contenteditable on) The problem I've stumbled upon is that if I double click on enter, the table gets divided into two separate tables with the same ID. This causes the code I'm using to set the localStorage to only store one of the tables (I assume the first).. I've thought of different solutions and I wonder if someone could point out the pro's and con's (if the solutions even works that is). Make a loop that checks the page after tables and stores them into an array of localStorage-items.. I'd have to dynamically create a localStorage item for each table. Take the whole div that the tables are in, and store that in the localStorage, when a user revisits the page, the page checks after the items in storage and displays the whole divs. Any suggestions you have that can beat this :).. (but no cache, it has to be with the localStorage!) Thanks
