  • I just restarted Apache and now the server is down

    - by James
I am pretty terrified right now. I'm scared I'm going to get a call in a couple minutes from a hundred people saying the website doesn't work. I was at the terminal changing some configuration files when I went to restart the server to update the .conf files with this command: /etc/init.d/apache2 graceful After I ran that, none of the websites work and I have no idea what to do. There are about 100 errors I am getting according to the log files. They all begin with "PHP Notice" and most relate to "use of undefined constant" Also, I just spoke with a coworker, describing what I did, and he noticed that there are two installations of apache on the server and that I restarted the one that we don't use. This is what the error log says (assuming it's the correct error log): [Wed Jan 05 11:52:06 2011] [notice] Graceful restart requested, doing restart Warning: DocumentRoot [/u/apps/staging/antetr/current/public/] does not exist [Wed Jan 05 11:52:08 2011] [warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80 (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs (2)No such file or directory: apache2: could not open error log file /u/apps/production/madfilmdash/current/log/apache-error.log. Unable to open logs (2)No such file or directory: apache2: could not open error log file /u/apps/production/madfilmdash/current/log/apache-error.log. Unable to open logs FINAL UPDATE: Ok, I fixed it. The problem was (as you experts facepalming probably know) that it couldn't access an error log in the directory I was working in. I created an empty error log file and tried the restart command again and now all the sites are back up... Though my original problem is still there.. Thanks to all those who offered advice, it really helped and let me breathe for a moment.

  • How do I fix the broken Windows 7 Search feature?

    - by jasonh
I'm trying to search my Windows Home Server for .DS_Store files that my Mac littered the server with. Windows 7 reports there are no *.DS_Store files in a folder, even though I can see it with the Show hidden files and folders option turned on. What can I do to track all these files down on my server and wipe them out?

I installed ESXI server on my machine hoping that it will be similar to workstation where i can install virtual machines. But when i installed it , it shows one screen with no options for making virtual machines. If can't make virtual machines from ESXI , then what is it used for. I formatted my Harddisk just for ESXi but then again had to install windows and then VM workstation.

  • Finding latest successful logins and failed attempts to a CentOS server

    - by ahmad
I'm looking for a log file or any service to report the latest login attempts which have failed due to username/password miss match. Is there such utility available for CentOS? (built-in is preferred) My second question, and more generally, I need a log file of penetration attempts to my server. Ideally, this log should contain all attempts including logins, httpd activities, and other conventional open ports.

  • SQL 2005 Install completly broken on laptop.

    - by ProfKaos
My problems started when I set up an exploratory domain controller at home. During that process, I changed the name of my laptop, from 'erisia' to 'erisia-laptop', and this resulted in me losing my admin account on SQL Server 2005 on my laptop. SQL Server seems to store the machine name as part of the user name, so now my local admin account is 'erisia-laptop\brady', which SQL server didn't recognise. I thought I'd cut my losses and just re-install SQL 2005, but the first install was aborted, so I tried a complete uninstall, followed by the new install. The latter didn't work while the former worked way too well. Now every attempt at installing SQL Server 2005 SP2 on my laptop running XP SP3 ends in sadness, with MSXML6 being the cause, because it won't install on this OS version. WTF? Does anyone know what I can do to get SQL 2005 installed? It's the only full admin DB tool I have. SQL 2008 Express that installed with VS 2010 Beta 2 doesn't allow much server admin.

I have built a xl2tpd/ipsec server on my ubuntu 12.04.3, and I managed to make a l2tp vpn connection to the xl2tpd server from my android phone. • X11 tunnelling through SSH from Fedora 3 server to Windows Vista client fails to work.

    - by MiffTheFox
    Okay, I've tried using Xming and PuTTY, as well as Cygwin/X and Cygwin ssh, and it is not working. I've been able to run X applications locally, so it's not a client-side X problem. I've connected to the server using ssh -X user@server and ended up with this: local-user@client: ~$ ssh -X user@server user@server's password: Last login: Sun Jul 19 15:26:46 2009 from 192.168.100.147 [user@server ~]$ xclock & [1] 27770 [user@server ~]$ Error: Can't open display: localhost:10.0 [1]+ Exit 1 xclock [user@server ~]$ [user@server ~]$ Here's the relevant snippet of my sshd_config #AllowTcpForwarding yes #GatewayPorts no #X11Forwarding no X11Forwarding yes X11DisplayOffset 10 X11UseLocalhost yes I can't seem to find ssh_config on the client-side. /etc/ssh doesn't exist.

  • server will not reply (syn -ack)

    - by Brent
I like to use the following commands to manage 'TIME_WAIT', in the hope to free up resources. echo 20 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_fin_timeout sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_tw_reuse=1 sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_tw_recycle=1 I found something interesting while doing a tcpdump. Sometimes if a client makes a connection (syn), the server will not reply (syn -ack). My question is, could it be because of the top three commands.

  • Facing issues in setting up VPN connection(IKEv1) using iphone (Defult Cisco VPN client) and Strongswan 4.5.0 server

    - by Kushagra Bhatnagar
I am facing issues in setting up VPN connection(IKEv1) using iPhone (Defult Cisco VPN client) and Strongswan 4.5.0 server. The Strongswan server is running on Ubuntu Linux, which is connected to some wifi hotspot. This is the guide which was used. I generated CA, server and client certificate, with the only difference mentioned below. “While generating server certificate, as per link CN=vpn.strongswan.org instead of this I changed CN name to CN=192.168.43.212.” Once certificates are generated, following (clientCert.p12 and caCert.pem) are sent to mobile via mail and installed on iphone. After installation I notice that certificates are considered as trusted also. Below are the ip addresses assigned to various interfaces Linux server wlan0 interface ip where server is running: 192.168.43.212 Iphone eth0 interface ip address: 192.168.43.72. iphone is also attached with the same wifi hotspot. Below is the snapshot of client configurations. Description Strong swan Server 192.168.43.212 Account ipsecvpn Password ***** Use certificate ON Certificate client The above username and password are in sync with the ipsec.secrets file. I am using the following ipsec.conf configuration: # basic configuration config setup plutodebug=all # crlcheckinterval=600 # strictcrlpolicy=yes # cachecrls=yes nat_traversal=yes # charonstart=yes plutostart=yes # Add connections here. # Sample VPN connections conn ios1 keyexchange=ikev1 authby=xauthrsasig xauth=server left=%defaultroute leftsubnet=0.0.0.0/0 leftfirewall=yes leftcert=serverCert.pem right=192.168.43.72 rightsubnet=10.0.0.0/24 rightsourceip=10.0.0.2 rightcert=clientCert.pem pfs=no auto=add With the above configurations when I enable VPN on iphone, it says Could not able to verify server certificate. I ran Wireshark on a Linux server and observe that initially some ISAKMP message exchanges happens between client and server, which are successful but before authorization, client is sending some informational message and soon after this client is showing error as popup Could not able to verify server certificate. Capture logs on Strongswan server and in server logs below errors are observed: From auth.log Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | ISAKMP version: ISAKMP Version 1.0 Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | exchange type: ISAKMP_XCHG_INFO Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | flags: ISAKMP_FLAG_ENCRYPTION Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | message ID: 9d 1a ea 4d Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | length: 76 Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | ICOOKIE: f6 b7 06 b2 b1 84 5b 93 Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | RCOOKIE: 86 92 a0 c2 a6 2f ac be Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | peer: c0 a8 2b 48 Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | state hash entry 8 Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | state object not found Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: **packet from 192.168.43.72:500: Informational Exchange is for an unknown (expired?) • App to log network user's file activities

My employer recently purchased a Mac Pro server (2011 model) and we've installed OSX Lion Server from the Mac Appstore. I'm definitely no server admin, but I have been tasked with finding out the following: Can we monitor or log what users do? (ie, open a file, copy a file.... or file-related tasks) Can we stop files from being copied? Or be alerted when this does occur? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

  • can't delete some files or change their attributes on my FTP server

    - by Revolter
I've installed a CMS on a shared host running Apache, now when I was deleting the root directory with FTP, some folders left with a "Permission denied" error and I can't change their attributes. the best explanation I've got is that the CMS installer has placed the files and has assigned its ownership to the Apache server instead of my user name. (i don't know it can be done) Ijust haven't use the uninstaller because I've lost my admin password - -" so how to delete those folders ?

  • Providing DNS redirection to honeypot server for known bad domains

    - by syn-
Currently running BIND on RHEL 5.4 and am looking for a more efficient manner of providing DNS redirection to a honeypot server for a large (30,000+) list of forbidden domains. Our current solution for this requirement is to include a file containing a zone master declaration for each blocked domain in named.conf. Subsequently, each of these zone declarations point to the same zone file, which resolves all hosts in that domain to our honeypot servers. ...basically this allows us to capture any "phone home" attempts by malware that may infiltrate the internal systems. The problem with this configuration is the large amount of time taken to load all 30,000+ domains as well as management of the domain list configuration file itself... if any errors creep into this file, the BIND server will fail to start, thereby making automation of the process a little frightening. So I'm looking for something more efficient and potentially less error prone. named.conf entry: include "blackholes.conf"; blackholes.conf entry example: zone "bad-domain.com" IN { type master; file "/var/named/blackhole.zone"; allow-query { any; }; notify no; }; blackhole.zone entries: $INCLUDE std.soa @ NS ns1.ourdomain.com. @ NS ns2.ourdomain.com. @ NS ns3.ourdomain.com.                        IN            A                192.168.0.99 *                      IN            A                192.168.0.99

  • Web server hits from Akamai IP addresses

    - by Joel
I am getting a lot of hits to my web server from from multiple IP addresses that are owned by Akamai. This stood out to me as the requests are for resources that are no longer available. These resources should not be being requested - that pages that refer to them are marked as being non-cachable. Any clues?
