• How to improve IntelliJ code editor speed?

  I am using IntelliJ (Community Edition) for several months, and at first I'm pleased about its speed & simplicity. But now, after upgrading to version 10, it's extremely slow. Sometimes I click a file then it takes 5 - 15 seconds to open that file (it freeze for that time). I don't know if I have done anything which cause that: I have installed 2 plugins(regex, sql), and have 2 versions of IntelliJ on my machine (now the version 9 removed, only version 10 remains). Is there any tips to improve speed of code editor, in general, or specifically IntelliJ? I have some experience when using IntelliJ: 1. Should open IntelliJ a while before working, cause it needs time for indexing. Don't open too many code tabs Open as less other program as possible. I'm using 2 GB RAM WinXP, and it just seems fairly enough for Java, IntelliJ & Chrome at the same time.

• checking crc32 of a file

  This is not really a "how to" question. Is there a "standard" file structure that applications use to store the checksums of files in a folder? I'm developing a tool to check various things like crc32, md5, sha1, sha256, etc... I'd like to have my program store the various hashes in files in the folder of what I'm checking. I know that there is a file commonly used called 'md5sums' or 'sha1sums'. But what about CRC? I haven't noticed any around. And if there is, what's the structure of it? Thanks.

  I'm trying to encode some denotational semantics into Agda based on a program I wrote in Haskell. data Value = FunVal (Value -> Value) | PriVal Int | ConVal Id [Value] | Error String In Agda, the direct translation would be; data Value : Set where FunVal : (Value -> Value) -> Value PriVal : N -> Value ConVal : String -> List Value -> Value Error : String -> Value but I get an error relating to the FunVal because; Value is not strictly positive, because it occurs to the left of an arrow in the type of the constructor FunVal in the definition of Value. What does this mean? Can I encode this in Agda? Am I going about it the wrong way? Thanks.

  Hello. Unfortunately, (written) midterms are necessary in most university CS programs in the world. They tell us how well our students (and ourselves as teachers) are doing. Needless to say, designing midterms for a C Programming Language course is not easy. For instance, when we do program for real, we have a myriad of information at our disposal: websites, books, cheat sheets to "remember" the syntax and so on. My question is this: did you find any way, during your years at school or training, where you said: ok, this midterm evaluation of my programming skills is tough, but fair. For instance: I found "find 5 problems with this code"-type questions hard but interesting and telling. Are there any others? Thanks.

• glibc backtrace - can't redirect output to file

  Hi, I'm in the process of debugging a C program (that I didn't write). I have all of the internal debugging tools (a whole bunch of printf's) enabled, and I wrote a small PHP script that uses proc_open() and just grabs both stdout and stderr, and time-coordinates them in one file. At the moment, the binary is dieing with a realloc() error that's caught by glibc, and a glibc backtrace is printed, beginning with: *** glibc detected *** /sbin/rsyslogd: realloc(): invalid next size: 0x00002ace626ac910 *** Here's the thing I don't understand: I've confirmed that the PHP script is catching both stdout and stderr from the binary's process and writing them to the correct files, but this backtrace is still printed to the console. Where is this coming from? Is there some magical output channel other than stdout and stderr? Any ideas on how I go about capturing this backtrace to a file, or sending it out with stderr?   I am trying to program a very standard JS behavior for a link using an HREF onClick handler, and I am facing a strange problem caused by what I believe to be focus/touch mode behavior on Android. Sometimes when I click on the link, instead of executing the action, it simply becomes selected/focused, with either just a focus rectangle or even also with a filled focus rectangle (selected as opposed to just focused?). The pseudo-code right now is <a href="#" onClick="toggleDivBelowToShowHide(); return false;">go</a> I have tried doing something like: <a href="#" onTouchStart="toggleDivBelowToShowHide(); return false;">go</a> But I still get the same pesky problem some of the time.

  Hi, I'm using Apache common fileupload library with Netbeans 6.8 + Glassfish.I'm trying to change the current upload path to be in the current context path of the servlet , something like this: WEB-INF/upload so I wrote : File uploadedFile = new File("WEB-INF/upload/"+fileName); session.setAttribute("path",uploadedFile.getAbsolutePath()); item.write(uploadedFile); but I notice that the library save the uploaded files into glassfish folder , here what I get when I print the absolute path of the uploaded file : C:\Program Files\sges-v3\glassfish\domains\domain1\WEB-INF\upload\xx.rar My Question : How can I force the common fileupload to save the uploaded file in a path relative to the current servlet path , so I don't need to specify the whole path ? is this possible ?

  I'm writing an indicator-sound clone for OSS4. Setting the volume works fine now, but I'm having trouble with the muting aspect of my program. A couple of facts about muting in OSS4: vmix doesn't have a mute (and we use vmix for volume control) also, the 'media keys' way of controlling volume doesn't set a mute control, but rather, volume = 0 The problem with this is, when reading the vmix volume and encountering zero, we don't know if the user has actually set it to zero, or has it set to some other value, but has mute on. How should I write my muting logic? git code, if that helps

• Table View rotate, but not properly (shape change)

  Hello everyone, Here is the thing. I have a ViewController which contain a view in full window. And the program run in landscape mode. I want to put an UITableView over the full screen view but only on right half part of the screen. So I add a UITableView in my view controller, I used the Interface Builder in order to set the Table View in the upper half of the screen so It will be on the right part in LandscapeLeft mode. I searched for on a lot of forum how to rotate my Table View. And so it does... except, It get stuck on the upper half of the landscape mode, it should stick on the right half. I'm not a iPhone coder since long, so I'm a bit confused on how to solve this problem. Do you have any idea on how to resize or make the TableView rotate properly. Thanks,

• Whats the scope of a c function defined within objective-c class?

• Accurate Timings with Oscilloscopes on PC

  In the world of embedded software (firmware) it is fairly common to observe the order of events, take timings and optimise a program by getting it to waggle PIO lines and capturing their behavior on an oscilloscope. In days gone by it was possible to toggle pins on the serial and parallel ports to achieve much the same thing on PC-based software. This made it possible to capture host PC-based software events and firmware events on the same trace and examine host software/firmware interactions. Now, my new laptop ... no serial or parallel ports! This is increasingly the case. So, does anyone have any suggestions as to go about emitting accurate timing signals off a "modern" PC? It strikes me that we don't have any immediately programmable, lag-free output pins left. The solution needs to run off a laptop, so using add-on cards that only plug into desktops are not permitted.

• How to handle optional variables of an object in Java?

  Hi folks, For my trading program, I have a Merchant class. A given Merchant object may or may not have a particular special quality or bundle of special qualities. For example, one Merchant object may have the Stockbroker quality, another Merchant may have the Financial Services and Stockbroker qualities, and another Merchant may have no special qualities at all. My initial thought was to create a HashMap and a Qualities class as follows: Map<Qualities, Boolean> merchantQualities = new HashMap<Qualities, Boolean>(); The only problem is, there are at least 50 possible special qualities for Merchants, such that it would be extremely tiresome to subclass all the qualities from the Quality class. Is there a better way of coding for these optional special qualities and representing them in the Merchants class than a HashMap and subclassing a Qualities class?

  I have a business plan & money to hire a developer - the essentials involve simple online games for children (played via traditional computer over the internet) such that their scores are uploaded to a database that can be viewed via a nice portal. What I don't know is: what technologies I would want my developer to know (the only somewhat unusual requirement I have is that the games have relatively accurate timing of keypresses/mouse presses) how much I should expect to pay (in general, what is the appropriate range) how many hours a program of the complexity of a simple tower defense -type game should take to develop (to be clear, the idea is not to implement TD, but rather other games of similar complexity) whether I should go with capable acquaintances, some online kind of online web-dev bidding site, or just try to find a capable undergraduate at the local university who I can wow with his/her first big paycheck, how I should communicate the software's specifications to my hired developer... Is there a standard I should be using? whether I should hire a webdev consultant for a few hours to help me answer these questions, instead of asking stackoverflow Thanks for any advice!

• Decompressing file with gzip produces file with no read-permissions on Windows 7

  I am attempting to decompress a .gz file using the GnuWin32 gzip program in Windows 7. I have full permissions on the compressed file, and my user account is an administrator. However, I end up not having read permissions on the decompressed file. To get read permissions I would have to manually change the permissions on it through right-clicking and selecting Properties Security. I am able to do this exact same thing with no permission problems in Windows XP, which leads me to believe that Windows 7's user account control system is causing problems. Does anyone know what I can do to make things work as I would expect (read permission on the decompressed file) in Windows 7? Thanks.

• Need to get back form controls' information externally

  Are there any tutorials or guides out there that anyone knows of that will show me how to read forms from an external program and get back information about the controls on the form? Currently, I can get the handle to the form, and I can get the class name, but I need to get more information such as a persistent name and contained data. Thanks. Edit: I now have a way to read the contained data (with the WM_GETTEXT message), however, I still need a persistent name/ID that I can be sure will not change from instance to instance. One way I can think of for doing this is to take the handle, find the position of the control on the window, and then get the handle from the position from then on. Another way is to determine a static ID for the control and then use that to get the handle from then on. The new scope of my problem is how to implement either of these. Any Ideas?

  Goal: Provide a web service using Visual Basic or C# or .NET that interacts with the Exchange Management Shell, sending it commands to run cmdlets, and return the results as XML. (Note that we could use any lanaguage to write the service, but since it is a Windows Box and we have Visual Studio 2008, it seemed like easiest solution would be just use it to create a VB/.NET web service. Indeed, it was quite easy to do so, just point and click.) Problem: How to run an Exchange Management Shell cmdlet from the web service, e.g, Get-DistributionGroupMember "Live Presidents" Seems that we should be able to create a PowerShell script that runs the cmdlet, and be able to call that from the command line, and thus just call it from within the program.   Does anyone know why there would be one-off errors with NSLog and NSString? It works fine in 99% of my program, but for some reason this error appears in one of my model's description method: Example code: localFileId = 7; type = 2; localId = 5; NSLog(@"CachedFile localId=%d, 2=%d, localFileId=%d, type=%d, path=%@", localId, 2, localFileId, type, self.path); Example Result: CachedFile localId=5, 2=0, localFileId=2, type=7, path=(null) Notice the "0" that gets inserted in there, where it should be "2=2". This happens with NSString stringWithFormat as well.

• How do I use the Silicon Laboratories IDE with SDCC?

  I'm thinking about using a microcontroller with an 8051 core from Silicon Laboratories. I hope that I can use C rather than assembly language, so I installed SDCC. I installed the "Silicon Laboratories IDE" to download the executable binaries to the on-chip Flash program memory. It also supposedly can be set up (under the Project Tool Chain Integration menu) to use "any" 8051 compiler. I tried to set it up to use SDCC, but every time I hit the "Assemble/Compile File" button it tells me "Compiler process did not sucessfully complete." How do I get new C code I write onto the SiLabs C8051F310 chip? Is there a web site with a step-by-step HOWTO? (Would it be easier to use a MAKEFILE that calls SDCC, only using the "Silicon Laboratories IDE" for the very last step of downloading the executable binary to the chip?)

• Minimum Hardware requirements for Android development

  I need information about minimum hardware requirement I need to have better experience in developing Android application. My current configuration is as follows. P4 3.0 GHz, 512 MB of ram. Started with Hello Android development on my machine and experience was sluggish, was using Eclipse Helios for development. Emulator used to take lot of time to start. And running program too. Do I need to upgrade my machine for the development purpose or is there anything else I am missing on my machine(like heavy processing by some other application I might have installed). And If I do need to upgrade, do I need to upgrade my processor too(that counts to new machine actually, which I am not in favor of), or only upgrading RAM will suffice.
