  • How to retrieve the real height of a #div (including overflowed parts)

    - by Toni Michel Caubet
    The same way i use this to detect when user scolled down the whole page: $(window).scroll(function(){ var diff = $(window).scrollTop() + $(window).height() - $(document).height(); if ($(window).scrollTop() == $(document).height() - $(window).height() || (diff < 5 && diff > -5)){ console.log('yay!'); } }); I wanted to do the same inside a dialog, I am trying like this: $('#dialog').dialog(); $('#dialog').scroll(function(){ var scroll = $('#dialog').scrollTop(); var height = $('#dialog ul').outerHeight(true); if(scroll == height){ $('#dialog').css('background','#999'); }else{ console.log('scrolltop is '+scroll+' and height is: '+height); } }) DEMO: http://jsfiddle.net/AgFXz/ The problem i guess is that i am not retrieving the whole #dialog size but the visible (CSS Defined property) size.. How can i know when user scrolled till the end of the dialog's scroll? Thanks!!

  • Google Chrome is doing things wrong again

    - by Stefan Liebenberg
    Chrome is wrongly reporting width and height values for images during, or just after, load time. Jquery is used in this code example: <img id='image01' alt='picture that is 145x134' src='/images/picture.jpg' /> <script> var img = $( 'img#image01' ) img.width() // would return 145 in Firefox and 0 in Chrome. img.height() // would return 134 in Firefox and 0 in Chrome. </script> If you put the script in a onload function, the result is the same. but if you run the code a few seconds after the page has loaded, chrome returns the correct result. <script> function example () { var img = $( 'img#image01' ); img.width() // returns 145 in both Firefox and Chrome. img.height() // returns 134 in both Firefox and Chrome. } window.setTimeout( example, 1000 ) </script> Also if you specify the width and height values in the img tag, the script seems to work as expected in both Firefox and Chrome. <img id='image01' src='/images/picture.jpg' width=145 height=134 /> But as you cannot always control the html input, this is not an ideal workaround. Can jQuery be patched with a better workaround for this problem? or will I need to specify the width and height for every image in my code?

  • Jquery validation on click event instead of on submit

    - by Mazzi
    I looked all around SOF but no luck to find me answer. It is either too easy or the answer is not just there. What I simply need to do is to validate the form when my <img id='submit'/> is clicked and submit it afterwards. $(document).ready(function(){ $('#submit').click(function() { }); // Validation $('#suzuki_scb').validate({ // My Rules and Messages! }); });

  • Print new line in the source-code with jQuery.

    - by Kucebe
    I have a simple function in jQuery that creates new elements in the DOM. the problem is in the html source code, it append every element in the same line, and it's very bad to read. function _loadNewElements(elements){ for(var i=0; i<elements.length; i++){ var fixedElement = $('<img />') var position = elements[i].position; var cssMap = { 'position': 'fixed', 'top': position.top + "px", 'left': position.left + "px" }; fixedElement.css(cssMap); fixedElement.addClass("fixedTag"); fixedElement.attr('alt', elements[i].text); fixedElement.attr('src', "elements/" + elements[i].id + ".png"); fixedElement.appendTo($('#board')); //i'd like to print something here like ("\n"); } } I tried document.write("\n") but in this context it doesn't work. Any solution?

  • Avoid Jquery Plugin Conflict

    - by user1511579
    on the same page i'm using this plugin: $g=jQuery.noConflict(); $g(function() { /* number of fieldsets */ var fieldsetCount = $g('#formElem').children().length; /* current position of fieldset / navigation link */ var current = 1; /* sum and save the widths of each one of the fieldsets set the final sum as the total width of the steps element */ var stepsWidth = 0; var widths = new Array(); $g('#steps .step').each(function(i){ var $step = $g(this); widths[i]   = stepsWidth; stepsWidth += $step.width(); }); $g('#steps').width(stepsWidth); /* to avoid problems in IE, focus the first input of the form */ $g('#formElem').children(':first').find(':input:first').focus(); /* show the navigation bar */ $g('#navigation_form').show(); /* when clicking on a navigation link  the form slides to the corresponding fieldset */ $g('#navigation_form a').bind('click',function(e){ var $this = $g(this); var prev = current; $this.closest('ul').find('li').removeClass('selected'); $this.parent().addClass('selected'); /* we store the position of the link in the current variable */ current = $this.parent().index() + 1; /* animate / slide to the next or to the corresponding fieldset. Thanks in advance!

  • Trouble with Canvas rendering in Safari/Opera

    - by Jon
    Been banging my head against this one for a while, and figured I'd turn to the experts for some advice. I've made a jQuery snippet that grabs the values from a table and plots them in a line graph on a canvas element (also generated by the JS). All's well in Firefox and Chrome, but Safari and Opera aren't displaying the plotted points. I've reviewed in Firebug, Web Inspector debugger, JSLint, and checked the markup with the w3 validator, but still can't find anything glaringly obvious. Any chance one of you guys could help me out? Here's a page with a simplified example: http://bit.ly/aAshPQ Thanks!

  • How to split page and reveal stuff underneath?

    - by sudo rm -rf
    Hi there. I've already achieved this on my iPhone app, but I want to know if it's possible on an HTML page, maybe using CSS effects or similar. As you can see, the current view is split, the bottom part is moved down, and another view is revealed underneath. I have a page I'd like to try this on. Any ideas if this is possible, and any specifics as to how I can do it? I'm quite new to HTML coding, so please take it easy on me. :) Thanks in advance!

  • jQuery $.data(): Possible misuse?

    - by Rosarch
    Perhaps I'm using $.data incorrectly. Assigning the data: var course_li = sprintf('<li class="draggable course">%s</li>', course["fields"]["name"]); $(course_li).data('pk', course['pk']); alert(course['pk']); // shows a correct value Moving the li to a different ul: function moveToTerm(item, term) { item.fadeOut(function() { item.appendTo(term).fadeIn(); }); } Trying to access the data later: $.each($(term).children(".course"), function(index, course) { var pk = $(course).data('pk'); // pk is undefined courses.push(pk); }); What am I doing wrong? I have confirmed that the course li on which I am setting the data is the same as the one on which I am looking for it. (Unless I'm messing that up by calling appendTo() on it?)

  • changing window.location without triggering refresh

    - by jdwyah
    I have an AJAX form that submits GET requests. Because these are all GET requests these should be easily bookmark-able. Preferably I'd make my Ajax request, update the screen and then update window.location.href to be the URL for the new page. Unfortunately this reloads the page. Is there any way I can get around this? Basically I'd like the URL bar to be a permalink bar, but it needs to be able to change to keep up with the state of the page. window.location.hash is no good because that doesn't get sent to the server.

  • Toastr.js notifications as modal notfication

    - by Maxsteel
    I know it's not what toastr (or toast notifs in general) are meant to be used for, but I want to use them as a modal notification. My idea is following. On toast show: toastr.options.onShown = function() { //Create an overlay on the entire page} Overlay: #overlay { background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.8); z-index: 999; position: absolute; left: 0; top: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; display: none; } And on toast close: toastr.options.onHidden = function() { //make overlay go away } Also, I'm setting timeout of toast to 0 so it won't disappear by itself. Question: I want the toast notification to stay atop the overlay and not behind it as overlay will cover everything. How can I do it?

  • Cookie value to define style on page load

    - by zac
    I am using the scripts from here http://www.quirksmode.org/js/cookies.html and have successfully created a cookie.. but am having trouble doing anything with it. I would like to have a style defined if a cookie is present. The function for the readCookie is function readCookie(name) { var nameEQ = name + "="; var ca = document.cookie.split(';'); for(var i=0;i < ca.length;i++) { var c = ca[i]; while (c.charAt(0)==' ') c = c.substring(1,c.length); if (c.indexOf(nameEQ) == 0) return c.substring(nameEQ.length,c.length); } return null; } I am trying to use it on page load with something like this window.onload=function(){ var x = readCookie('myCookieValue'); if (x) { document.getElementById('div').innerHTML = "<style type=\"text/css\">.form {display:none}</style>"; } } What would be the correct way of writing this?

  • How do you set a variable to be an empty, but workable Jquery object?

    - by KallDrexx
    Outside of a for I declare a variable using var list;. I use this variable inside of my for loop like so: // add the html to the list if (list == undefined) list = item; else list.append(item.contents()); item is a cloned jquery object build from a $('list_template').clone(); call (list_template is a div with <li> elements inside). What I am doing is creating a list, which I will then appendTo() where I need it. Right now this code works fine, but it doesn't seem right to me. Unfortunatly, I cannot seem to figure out how to correctly declare the list variable to be an empty Jquery object. I have tried both: var list = $([]); var list = $(''); Both of those cause the append to not work correctly (or as expected) with list.html() being null. Is there a way to initialize my variable to an empty jquery object, so all I have to do is list.append(item.contents()); without the if/else statements?

  • is it possible that a greasemonkey script can work on one computer but not on another?

    - by plastic cloud
    i'm writing an greasemonkey script for somebody else. he is a moderator and i am not. and the script will help him do some moderating things. now the script works for me. as far as it can work for me.(as i am not a mod) but even those things that work for me are not working for him.. i checked his version of greasemonkey plugin and firefox and he is up to date. only thing that's really different is that i'm on a mac and he is pc, but i wouldn't think that would be any problem. this is one of the functions that is not working for him. he does gets the first and third GM_log message. but not the second one ("got some(1) .."). kmmh.trackNames = function(){ GM_log("starting to get names from the first "+kmmh.topAmount+" page(s) from leaderboard."); kmmh.leaderboardlist = []; for (var p=1; p<=(kmmh.topAmount); p++){ var page = "http://www.somegamesite.com/leaderboard?page="+ p; var boardHTML = ""; dojo.xhrGet({ url: page, sync: true, load: function(response){ boardHTML = response; GM_log("got some (1) => "+boardHTML.length); }, handleAs: "text" }); GM_log("got some (2) => "+boardHTML.length); //create dummy div and place leaderboard html in there var dummy = dojo.create('div', { innerHTML: boardHTML }); //search through it var searchN = dojo.query('.notcurrent', dummy).forEach(function(node,index){ if(index >= 10){ kmmh.leaderboardlist.push(node.textContent); // add names to array } }); } GM_log("all names from "+ kmmh.topAmount +" page(s) of leaderboard ==> "+ kmmh.leaderboardlist); does anyone have any idea what could be causing this ?? EDIT: i know i had to write according to what he would see on his mod screen. so i asked him to copy paste source of pages and so on. and besides that, this part of the script is not depending on being a mod or not. i got everything else working for him. just this function still doesn't on neither of his pc's.

    - by user1055495

  • To not iterate through function of Array object if it is added to Array prototype

    - by Rishat Muhametshin
    According to the way to add indexOf method to Array class in IE6, how do I now reject this method from iterating through any random array? For example: Array.prototype.indexOf = function(needle) { ... }; var array = [1, 2, 3]; for (var i in array) { document.write(i + ': ' + array[i]); } gives output 0: 1 1: 2 2: 3 indexOf: function ... How can I skip indexOf property and stop iterating on it without adding any code to where for(...) is called?

  • Modifying DOM of a webpage

    - by Prashant Singh

I was thinking of naive way of parsing the content and updating. Please comment if I am unclear in asking my doubt !

  • Is window.location.href = 'some_page.html' followed by search engines?

    - by Arkaaito
    Currently our website uses links to allow the user to change their locale. The problem with this is that you get a lot of random outlinks from each page on the site to... the same page, in other languages. When a search engine traverses this, it gets an excessively complex view of the site. We were going to change it to a form post to avoid this. However, it seems to me that we should just be able to change it to an onclick="window.location.href='change_my_language.php'" rather than an href="change_my_language.php". Am I right? Or do the major search engines scan for and follow this sort of thing nowadays?
