• Trouble rendering a view inside a generic class

The error occurred while evaluating nil.url_for) on line #5 of app/views/sitemap/_sitemap.builder: I assume this means that ActionController::UrlWriter is not included in the right place, but I really don't know

  Here's the method i want to write: public static IEnumerable<String> GetTableNames(this IQueryable<T> query) { //... } where the IQueryable is a linq-to-sql query (is there a more specific interface i should use?). then if i had a query like this var q = from c in db.Customers from p in db.Products where c.ID = 3 select new {p.Name, p.Version}; q.GetTableNames();// return ["Customers", "Products"] basically it would show all the tables that this query touches in the db, it is ok to execute the query to figure this out too (since that is going to happen anyway)? any ideas?

• Using Apache Velocity with StringBuilders/CharSequences

  We are using Apache Velocity for dynamic templates. At the moment Velocity has following methods for evaluation/replacing: public static boolean evaluate(Context context, Writer writer, String logTag, Reader reader) public static boolean evaluate(Context context, Writer out, String logTag, String instring) We use these methods by providing StringWriter to write evaluation results. Our incoming data is coming in StringBuilder format so we use StringBuilder.toString and feed it as instring. The problem is that our templates are fairly large (can be megabytes, tens of Ms on rare cases), replacements occur very frequently and each replacement operation triples the amount of required memory (incoming data + StringBuilder.toString() which creates a new copy + outgoing data). I was wondering if there is a way to improve this. E.g. if I could find a way to provide a Reader and Writer on top of same StringBuilder instance that only uses extra memory for in/out differences, would that be a good approach? Has anybody done anything similar and could share any source for such a class? Or maybe there any better solutions to given problem?

• Determine if PowerShell function is running as part of a pipeline?

  Can a PowerShell function determine if it is being run as part of a pipeline? I have a function which populates an array with instances of FileInfo which I would like to "yield" to the pipeline if the function is being run this way or produce some pretty output if the function is being invoked by itself from the command line. function Do-Something { $file_infos = @() # Populate $file_infos with FileInfo instances... if (INVOKED_IN_PIPELINE) { return $file_infos } else { foreach ($file_info in $file_infos) { write-host -foregroundcolor yellow $file_info.fullname } } } Basically, I'm trying to figure out how to implement INVOKED_IN_PIPELINE. If it is run in a pipeline (e.g. Do-Something | format-table fullname), I would simply yield the array, but if run directly (e.g. Do-Something), it would simply pretty-print the output. Is there a way to do this? If there is a more "idiomatic" way to achieve this kind of thing, I would also be interested to know.

However I am aware of this opening up for many security risks, i e background: url('javascript:alert("Got your cookies! " + document.cookies'). Hence I am looking for a solution to sanitize the CSS while still allowing as much CSS functionality as possible for my users. So my questions if anyone anyone knows of a gem or a plugin to handles this? I've googled my brains out already so any tips would be really appreciated!

• SQL CLR and nullable datetime parameter

  I'm trying to write a SQLCLR function that takes a DateTime2 as input and returns another DateTime2. Based on this post I altered the parameter to be the C# type DateTime giving me the level of precision I require. How could I order them? I probably have to write a many-to-many HQL query with the order-by clause? I though of passing the orderBy field name string to the query, or is there a better solution? Tables are: products, product_catalog, product_product_catalog (associative table) P.S. Using Play! Framework JPASupport for my entities.

As far as I know this is about metaprogramming and aspect-oriented programming. How do I get acquainted with modern tools available quickly so that I don't invent one more bicycle developing my own?

  I am writing a program that is cross platform. There are a few spots where I have to specify an operating system dependent call. #ifdef WINDOWS ..do windows only stuff #endif #ifdef LINUX ..do linux only stuff #endif Are there any preprocesser directives that get defined by the compiler so I don't have to explicitly define them when I use the command line compiler. ie. cl -DWINDOWS program.cpp or g++ -DLINUX program.cpp I realize I could easily write a makefile or have a shell/batch script that will do this automatically. But I would prefer to use the same ones as the compiler (if they exist) by default.

• What are the advantages to use StringBuilder versus XmlDocument or related to create XML documetns?

  This might be a bit of a code smell, but I have seen it is some production code, namely the use of StringBuilder as opposed to XmlDocument when creating XML documents. In some cases these are write once operations (e.g. create the document and save it to disk) where as others are passing the built string to an XmlDocument to preform an XslTransform to a document that is returned to the client. So obvious question: is there merit to doing things this way, is it something that should be done on a case-by-case basis, or is this the wrong way of doing things?

• jquery load php file - result is not complete

  I'm trying to load or better reload a DIV with content from an included php file. so the file is included in the webadmin.php from the location webadmin/pages.php. Then i alter some data in the DB through serializing. Now I would like to reload the pages.php from the callback of the serialize POST with load();. This all works fine up until the moment the data is supposed to be displayed in the div - i believe its because the php file is loaded from a different location, so the include paths for the DB Connection etc are probably wrong... Should I really write an extra PHP File for jquery or is there a way to tell jquery where to load it from? Its the first time I'm doing this - so bear with me for a moment on this one... Thanks!   I'm creating a list of my defined objects like so List<clock> cclocks = new List<clocks>(); for each object in the list i'm calling a method moveTime, like so foreach(clock c in cclocks) { c.moveTime(); } is the a way i can write some cleaver thing so i can call cclocks.moveTime(); it would then go though the list doing that method I guess I want to create a collection method? I have checked out the code in MSDN and found an example in which the System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase class is sub-classed. I did the following. created a new C# console application copied the code from the MSDN example Run I get the following error The type or namespace name 'ServiceProcess' does not exist in the namespace 'System'(are you missing an assembly reference?) As i had copied the example from MSDN, i have no idea why the code still does not work. This is my first experience writing services and i`d love some guidance. thnkx!

  Hi Our company uses some third party vendors to write some of our external facing web sites, however with one vendor we keep experiencing over inflated charges for simple changes and it has been decided to bring the product in-house. I have been tasked to provide a list of deliverables/checkpoints that would form a part of the agreement. what is the minimum you would expect if you are purchasing the source code of a product that you have paid for the development of, should we expect code for any custom libraries they may be using that were written not for us etc.. This is all written in .net so i am well aware we could just get the code via reflector, however i dont think my boss would go for this ;-)

• Images to video - converting to IplImage makes video blue

The strange problem is that if i will write image (bmp) to disk and then load (cv.LoadImage) it it renders fine, but when i try to load image from StringIO and convert it to IplImage, it turns video to blue.   I have to create 2 tables: Magazine ( 10 millions of rows with these columns: id, title, genres, printing, price ) Author ( 180 millions of rows with these columns: id, name, magazine_id ) . Every author can write on ONLY ONE magazine and every magazine has more authors. So if I want to know all authors of Motors Magazine, I have to use this query: SELECT * FROM Author, Magazine WHERE ( Author.id = Magazine.id ) AND ( genres = 'Motors' ) The same applies to Printing and Price column. To avoid these joins with tables of millions of rows, I thought to use this tables: Magazine ( 10 millions of rows with this column: id, title, genres, printing, price ) Author ( 180 millions of rows with this column: id, name, magazine_id, genres, printing, price ) . and this query: SELECT * FROM Author WHERE genres = 'Motors' Is it a good approach ?   Batch file search and replace using wildcards I have a html (txt) file I am using as a template or sourcefile to create further html files.  Filename = pg_0001.htm and it contains a line of code thus: pg_0001.jpg I want to parse the pg_0001.htm sourcefile, increment and replace the jpeg string, like this:  "pg_0002.jpg", and then output the edited htm file to a new filename pg_0002.htm I then take each newly created file (pg_0002.htm, pg_0003.htm etc) as the sourcefile and repeat the processing until I have reached my target goal (let's say 100 newly created htm files containing code to display the corresponding jpeg. It must be done this way (fileX.htm containing fileX.jpg) because there is other javascript that uses these incremented filenames as function input. I used to know how to write incrementing batch files many years ago but I'm old & very rusty now.  Can anyone please help me do this?  Many thanks in advance. regards Harry

• ASP.NET JavaScript File Embeded In DLL With GZIP

  We have several fairly large JavaScript files embedded into a single script resources DLL. This is then consumed by multiple projects by way of a reference and page includes via the ASP.NET script manager. This keeps things nice and neat within our ASP.NET pages and requires very little work to integrate into new projects. The problem is that some of these script files are quite larger (approx 100KB) and take time to download. By running minify on them before embedding this is reduced down a lot (around 70KB) but not enough. What we would like to do is GZIP the files before they are embedded. However, just gzipping the files causes syntax errors as the content is not unzipped. There is a content type "text/javascript" applied in AssemblyInfo when the resource is embedded but we can't find a way to specify content-encoding. Is there any way to make this work without having to write a httpmodule/handler (which would mean changing the config for all consuming projects)?

  I used to be able to this to create an exported HTML page containing some data. But the code is not working with the latest version of Google Chrome (It works alright with Chrome 5.0.307.11 beta and all other major browsers). function createExport(text) { var target = window.open(); target.title = 'Memonaut - Exported View'; target.document.open(); target.document.write(text); target.document.close(); } Chrome now complains that the domains don't match and disallows the Javascript calls as unsafe. How can I access and modify the document of a newly opened browser-tab in such a scenario?

• xcode - warning there's no getter/setter for property not even mentioned in the code!!

  I got the warning : property 'textField' requires method '-textField' to be defined - use @synthesize, @dynamic or provide a method implementation. Now, there is no such property defined in my project! More bizarre, if I just click save in Interface builder and build again, the build is successful - though, right on the line with '@end' the warning appears. Also weird: if I begin to write some code ..and then delete it just the way it was before writing it (maybe not code..anything) and then build&go the warning with the textField appears again. Could be a bug of sdk? What could be happening?

• Can a signed Java Applet/Web Start manipulate content in a cross-site IFRAME?

  Is it possible for a signed Java Applet or Web Start app to write to the DOM of an IFRAME under a different domain? Does the fact that they're a signed applet/javaws allow them to ignore browsers' standard cross-browser security? If this does work, how well is it supported across the major browsers? Thanks! EDIT: My motivation is to add a browser plugin-like tool to third-party websites I don't control. It's not required that I use Java at all---any ideas or suggestions are encouraged.
