  • Maven 2: How to package current project version in a WAR file?

    - by Tom van Zummeren
I am using Maven 2 to build my Java project and I am looking for a way to present the current version number of the pom.xml to the user (using a Servlet or JSP for example). As far as I can see, the best way would be that Maven packages the version number as a text file into the WAR. This allows me to read the version from that file and present it the way I want. Does anyone know of a plugin that can do something like that for me? Maybe the WAR plugin can be configured to do so? Or maybe using some other approach all together?

  • Mocking my custom dependencies with Spring

    - by Brabster
Is is possible to declare mocks using some mocking framework for my own classes declaratively with Spring? I know there are some standard mocks available in Spring, but I'd like to be able to mock out my own classes declaratively too. Just to check I'm not going about this the wrong way: the idea is to have a pair of JUnit test and Spring config for each integration test I want to do, mocking everything except the specific integration aspect I'm testing (say I had a dependency on two different data services, test one at a time) and minimising the amount of repeated Java code specifying the mocks.

  • multi-dimensional ArrayList

    - by wishi
Hi! Just a very small question... I seem to run into too much complexity here: I have to realize an index-structure like {42, someString}. I tried: Object entry[][] = new Object[1][1]; ArrayList<Object> my_list = new ArrayList<Object>(); However that looks really strange. Isn't there a better much simpler solution to just store some Integer and a String? I need to perfrom search for the Strings and return the Integer... so I thought Collections and ArrayLists are good friends in the Java API.

  • direct access to vector elements similar to arrays

    - by mixm
hi. im currently creating a tile based game, where elements of the games are placed in four different vectors (since there are multiple game objects with different properties, hence stored in different vectors). these game elements themselves contain x and y coordinates similar to how they are stored in a two dimensional array. i was wondering if there was a way to access these vector elements similar to two dimensional array access (currently i am implementing an for loop to cycle the elements while comparing its coordinates). this kinda sucks when i need to refresh my display at every game cycle (since the large number of comparisons and loops). im implementing this in java btw.

  • Determining whether a file is a duplicate

    - by Todd R
Is there a reliable way to determine whether or not two files are the same? For example, two files with the same size and type may or may not be the same binarilly (yeah, I know it's not really a word). I assume that comparing one or two checksums of the files will help, but I wonder: How reliable are checksums at determining whether two files are different; what are the chances of two different files having the same checksum? Would reliability increase by applying additional checksum comparisons? Which checksum algorithm(s) would be the most efficient and/or reliable? Any ideas, suggestions or thoughts are appreciated! P.S. The code for this is being written in Java running on a nix system, but generic or platform agnostic input is most helpful.

  • xDocklet, Maven and Hibernate

    - by Vinothbabu
    I am having some trouble setting up xDocklet and getting this error. Error resolving version for plugin 'xdoclet:maven2-xdoclet2-plugin' from the repositories <pluginRepositories> <pluginRepository> <id>codehaus-plugins</id> <url>http://dist.codehaus.org/</url> <layout>legacy</layout> <snapshots> <enabled>true</enabled> </snapshots> <releases> <enabled>true</enabled> </releases> </pluginRepository> </pluginRepositories> <plugin> <groupId>xdoclet</groupId> <artifactId>maven2-xdoclet2-plugin</artifactId> <executions> <execution> <id>xdoclet</id> <phase>generate-sources</phase> <goals> <goal>xdoclet</goal> </goals> </execution> </executions> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>xdoclet-plugins</groupId> <artifactId>xdoclet-plugin-qtags</artifactId> <version>1.0.4-SNAPSHOT</version> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>xdoclet-plugins</groupId> <artifactId>xdoclet-taglib-qtags</artifactId> <version>1.0.4-SNAPSHOT</version> </dependency> </dependencies> <goals> <goal>xdoclet</goal> </goals> <configuration> <configs> <config> <components> <component> <classname>org.xdoclet.plugin.qtags.impl.QTagImplPlugin</classname> </component> <component> <classname>org.xdoclet.plugin.qtags.impl.QTagLibraryPlugin</classname> <params> <packagereplace>org.xdoclet.plugin.${xdoclet.plugin.namespace}.qtags</packagereplace> </params> </component> <component> <classname>org.xdoclet.plugin.qtags.doclipse.QTagDoclipsePlugin</classname> <params> <filereplace>qtags.xml</filereplace> <namespace>${xdoclet.plugin.namespace}</namespace> </params> </component> <component> <classname>org.xdoclet.plugin.qtags.confluence.QTagConfluencePlugin</classname> <params> <destdir>${project.build.directory}/tag-doc</destdir> <namespace>${xdoclet.plugin.namespace}</namespace> <filereplace>${xdoclet.plugin.namespace}.confluence</filereplace> </params> </component> </components> <includes>**/*.java</includes> <params> <destdir>${project.build.directory}/generated-resources/xdoclet</destdir> </params> </config> </configs> </configuration> </plugin> Some of my questions. Would you recommend me with going with xDocklet. Is there any alternative for it? Is it one of the best way, as hbm's does get generated automatically. Any suggestions on the way how my Java Objects should get persisted in the DB? Any good tutorials over xDocklet Maven and Hibernate. I am using xDocklet to generate HBM's automatically by annotating my POJO's.

  • Randomize numbers within a subset

    - by Samuel
I have a array of integer numbers (say 1,2,3,4,5 or 1,2,3, ... 10 or 1,2,3, ... 50) from which I would like to get a random set of numbers ordered differently every time. Is there a utility method to do this? e.g. for 1,2,3,4,5 post randomization it might be either [1,5,4,2,3 or 2,1,3,5,4 or 3,1,2,4,5 or ...] I would like to know if there is a java utility method / class which already provides this capability?

  • I'm asked to tune a long starting app into a short time period

    - by Jason
Hi, I'm asked to shorten the startup period of a long starting app, however I have also to obligate to my managers to the amount of time i will reduce the startup - something like 10-20 seconds. As i'm new in my company I said I can obligate with timeframe of months (its a big server and I'm new and i plan to do lazy load + performance tuning). that answer was not accepted I was required to do some kind of a cache to hold important data in another server and then when my server starts up it would reach all its data from that cache - I find it a kind of a workaround and i don't really like it. do you like it? what do you think I should do? any suggestions? PS when i profiled the app i saw many small issues that make the startup long (like 2 minutes) it would not be a short process to fix all and to make lazy load. Any kind of suggestions would help. language - java. Thanks

  • why primitive type will call first rather than wrapper classes?

    - by kandarp
Hello EveryOne, public class A { public void test(Integer i) { System.out.println("In Wrapper Method"); } public void test(int i) { System.out.println("In primitive Method"); } public static void main(String args[]) { A a = new A(); a.test(5); } } When I will call test method from main and pass integer argument, then it will call the method which accept primitive type as argument. I just want to know that why it call primitive type method rather than the method who accepts wrapper class as argument? Is there any rule, which java follow to call methods? Thanks,

  • Testing file uploading and downloading speed using FTP

    - by Toman
Hi all, I am working in a desktop application using java. In my application i have to perform a speed test which will show the file uploading and downloading speed. For uploading test i am uploading a small test file to a FTP server and based on time taken i am calculating the file upload speed. similarly i am downloading a test file form server and calculating download speed. But result i am getting doesn't match with actual FTP file uploading and downloading speed.it seems that the establishing connection to FTP server is increasing the time, hence the resultant speed i am calculating is less. Could you suggest any link or some way to get nearest uploading and downloading speed. i thanks to all your valuable suggestion.

  • ready to use design pattern APIs for PHP?

    - by ajsie
i know that in Java you can use their built-in APIs for design pattern. eg. if you want to use the observer pattern, you just have to extend your Subject class with the Observable class. is this possible for PHP? are there any libraries for the design patterns ready to use. in this way you don't have to reinvent the wheel and you also let many developers follow a standard. does Zend library have these API:s?

  • Designing a peer to peer network

    - by Varun
I am designing a simple peer to peer network. The basic architecture will be as follows: A central server- that keeps track of all the peers. The job of this server is to keep track of all the peers that join the network. Every peer could do things: a. Download a file from it's peer b. Push a file (send a file) to it's peer. Could anybody please tell me what would be the best design for such a system? What would be the problems that i might run into and so on. I am planning to use Java as the programming language to implement. Would it be a good choice? Also, is it necessary that i would need a Linux box to develop the system? or is it fine if i use a Windows machine? Your help will be much appreciated! Thanks!

  • Problem saving Text file in database using Hibernate

    - by Marquinio
I'm having a problem saving large text files to MySQL database. If the text file size is around 5KB it successfully saves. If file is 148KB then I get this error from Hibernate: org.hibernate.exception.DataException: Could not execute JDBC batch update These is the SQL shows by Hibernate: Hibernate: insert into file_table (ID,FILE) values (?, ?) And in my hibernate file I'm using java.sql.Blob to store the file. Anyone knows why it fails to save a file size of 148KB but if I open that same file, cut it down to around 5KB, it will successfully save it? I thought the default limit was I think 2GB? This is weird. Thanks.

  • getTextContent from Node with whitespace character normalization

    - by Nayn
Hi, I am working with XPATH, Java and want to extract some text out of one html page. The text is located under some div with some whitespace characters in between, like &nbsp; <br> etc. I want these to be converted into 'space' and 'newline' respectively while extracting. The method I am using to extract text is Element.getTextContent() which does not respect whitespace characters. Could somebody tell me if there is a way to extract text with whitespace normalization OR Extract whole html markup under the 'Node' so that i could replace it by myself. Thanks Nayn

  • Google Calendar title displayed incorrectly

    - by Don
Hi, I'm creating 2 Google calendars via the Java client API using the following Groovy method: private CalendarEntry createGoogleCalendar(User user) throws ServiceException { new CalendarEntry().with {calendar -> title = new PlainTextConstruct(user.email) summary = new PlainTextConstruct("Collection calendar for $user.email") timeZone = new TimeZoneProperty("America/Montreal") hidden = HiddenProperty.FALSE def savedCalendar = googleCalendar.insert(CALENDAR_URL, calendar) log.debug "Created calendar with title '$savedCalendar.title.plainText' for '$user.email'" return savedCalendar } } The logs show: CalendarService - Created calendar with title '[email protected]' for '[email protected]' CalendarService - Created calendar with title '[email protected]' for '[email protected]' so it appears that all is well. However when I look at the 1st calendar on the Google website, the title is shown as [email protected], though the summary is correctly shown as Collection calendar for [email protected]. Strangely, the title and summary are both shown correctly tor the 2nd calendar. This only started happening today, and I'm pretty sure the relevant code has not changed. I'm totally stumped....

  • Should GSON ignore varying types if they're not used in a class?

    - by loeschg
I'm making an API call that returns JSON which has a particular field which either returns false or a map depending on content. It's a field that I don't care about. I expected GSON to ignore this particular field, though it doesn't seem to be. The object generation fails with the following message: com.google.gson.JsonSyntaxException: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Expected a string but was BEGIN_OBJECT at line 1 column 403560 I've seen this particular question (Gson deserialize json with varying value types). I want to make sure I need to make a custom deserializer before doing so. I'm wondering if I may have another issue. edit: Example: "anonymous_flag": { } vs "anonymous_flag": "yes" Another Edit: I actually had the field in my model object... I was referencing the wrong class. Judge away :)

  • Error in eclipse: "The project cannot be built until build path errors are resolved"

    - by Darkphenom
I am a CS student learning java so I do some work at home and at college on a mixture of linux and windows. I have a problem after copying a new project into the eclipse workspace. The project shows up but with a red exclamation mark and an error saying: "The project cannot be built until build path errors are resolved" Can somebody help me out with this? I tried this http://www.scottdstrader.com/blog/ether_archives/000921.html but it didn't work. Also, are there any good ways of syncing an eclipse workspace across multiple computers?

  • Is there an easy way to concatenate several lines of text into a string without constantly appending

    - by Marshmellow1328
So I essentially need to do this: String text = "line1\n"; text += "line2\n"; text += "line3\n"; useString( text ); There is more involved, but that's the basic idea. Is there anything out there that might let me do something more along the lines of this though? DesiredStringThinger text = new DesiredStringThinger(); text.append( "line1" ); text.append( "line2" ); text.append( "line3" ); useString( text.toString() ); Obviously, it does not need to work exactly like that, but I think I get the basic point across. There is always the option of writing a loop which processes the text myself, but it would be nice if there is a standard Java class out there that already does something like this rather than me needing to carry a class around between applications just so I can do something so trivial. Thanks!

  • Switch to BigInteger if necessary

    - by fahdshariff
I am reading a text file which contains numbers in the range [1, 10^100]. I am then performing a sequence of arithmetic operations on each number. I would like to use a BigInteger only if the number is out of the int/long range. One approach would be to count how many digits there are in the string and switch to BigInteger if there are too many. Otherwise I'd just use primitive arithmetic as it is faster. Is there a better way? Is there any reason why Java could not do this automatically i.e. switch to BigInteger if an int was too small? This way we would not have to worry about overflows.

  • How do I change the JAVA_HOME for ant?

    - by Eugene M
I'm doing java work on a class server where I don't have root. Whenever I try to compile using ant, it points to the wrong directory (/usr/tomcat instead of /usr/tomcat/jre ). One of the things we were told to do when setting up our user accounts was to add export JAVA_HOME=/usr/tomcat/jre to the .bashrc file. I don't know if that was supposed to take care of the problem but it doesn't seem to. So, how can I change the JAVA_HOME property for ant but only for when I run ant? EDIT: echo $JAVA_HOME points to /usr/tomcat/jre echo $JAVA_HOME\bin points to /usr/tomcat/jrebin The problem is when I normally run ant I get this error: Unable to locate tools.jar. Expected to find it in /usr/tomcat/lib/tools.jar Buildfile: build.xml compile: [javac] Compiling 1 source file to /home/ejm244/build/classes BUILD FAILED /home/ejm244/build.xml:9: Unable to find a javac compiler; com.sun.tools.javac.Main is not on the classpath. • Hudson jobs won't call javac?

    - by Dissonant
Hi, I have just set up Hudson on my server. For some reason, my build will not call javac to compile my builds...? I have set the path to the JDK in the Manage Hudson area, and it seems to recognise it (doesn't give me a warning). Is there something else I'm supposed to do? Here's a sample console output of one of my jobs (note how javac isn't called at all): Started by user admin Checking out svn+ssh://myhost.com/Project1 A /src/Program.java A build.xml U At revision 119 no change for svn+ssh://myhost.com/Project1 since the previous build Finished: SUCCESS

  • Dojo JSON call back always returns an error

    - by Sunny
Hi Guys, I am using Dojo and making a AJAX call to a JAVA Class and trying to get the output of the program to a Alert box to the client. var showResult = function(result){ console.log("Showing Result()"); var store = new dojo.data.ItemFileReadStore({ data: result}); console.dir(store); store.fetch( { onItem: function(data) { alert("Hie"); }, onError: function(error, request){ alert("ERROR");} }); }; This is my code, showResult basically is call back function from xhr request. I can see console.dir(store) printed onto Firebug but the fetch function always returns the onError block. My store array is of the form {info="Test Message"} and I need to retrieve "Test Message" and display it in a Alert box. Any help?
