• Writing Facebook apps in C#

  Hi, I am a C# developer and fancy the idea of writing a C# app or two to integrate with the Facebook API. I read from this page: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/User:C_Sharp that there's this Microsoft SDK for Facebook Platform that has binary assemblies that I can use to write my C# app. As a start, I want to try out the example mentioned on the above-mentioned page -- one that gets me a friend list. The problem is: I am completely new to this Facebook development thing and I see I am going to need, at the very least, an API Key and some Facebook service Secret key or some such, to begin writing some code. Do I also need a developer account? Where do I get all these things from?

• Why servlet halt a moment in concurrent request.

  I use Axis for webservice service. when more than 8 concurrent , there are some request halt randomly for about 30 seconds. I debug by log in every line and found from my code: public class foo{ void bar(){ a(); log.debug('exit from a'); } void a(){ log.debug('exit a'); } the time between "exit a" and "exit from a" are delay about 30 second. This is no reason. • Opinions Required: Custom HTML Markup from PHP with or without tag prefix.

  I've created a class in PHP that allows you to create custom HTML markup. It basically works a bit like FB Markup or EE tags. It works off a tag prefix, so you can add tags like this. <ctag:pagination per_page="20" total="500" page="0" base="http://localhost/page?page={page}" mode="smart" adjecents="5" /> My question is: Is the markup above better than the markup below? I'm asking as I'm considering branching my code to rework the tag matching so you can just generate custom html elements. It would well for a drop in HTML5 replacement service. Match the User Agent for a none HTML5 browser and replace the HTML5 elements with your own replacements. <pagination per_page="20" total="500" page="0" base="http://localhost/page?page={page}" mode="smart" adjecents="5" /> PS, if anybody wants to look at the class I've put a download here.

• iphone poll application to sync with myspace or facebook poll.

  Hi, We are developing an iphone application, which requires us to add polling(survey) functionality in the app. We also have same poll in either MySpace or Facebook. We have to sync the polling data to our iphone application. How can we achieve this? We have found some third party polling service provider like Zoomerang, Poll Daddy polls, etc., but they don't have supporting API for iphone application or at least one we are not aware of. If anyone can shed light on this on how to proceed with this, it will be really very helpful. Thanks in advance. Zach.

  Hi all, I'm currently implementing/configuring the LDAP authentication of a Java web application using Spring Security 3.0. I'm using Microsoft AD LDS as LDAP server and chose the Spring's BindAuthenticator. I found out that the authentication only works if the authenticated user is a member of the partition's Readers role. The BindAuthenticator tries to read the user's attributes after the authentication, which seems reasonable in scenarios where authorities are retrieved from the directory service. Being new to LDAP and AD, is this an acceptable practise when the application is integrated in an existing AD structure? Can fine-tune an give the user dns only read permissions for their own attributes rather than adding them to the Reader group? Thanks Thomas

  I have a table, a trigger on the table implemented using service broker. More than Half million records are inserted daily into the table. The asynchronous SP is used to check sveral condition by using inserted data and update other tables. It was running fine for last 1 month and the SP was get executed withing 2-3 seconds of insertion of record. But now it take more than 90 minute. At present sys.conversation_endpoints have too much records. (Note that all the table are truncated daily as I do not need those records day after) Other database activities are normal (average 60% CPU Utilization). Now where i need to look?? I can re-create database without any problem but i don't think it is a good way to resolve the problem

  We are trying to design 6 web services, which will serve another client component. The client component requires data from the web service we are implementing. Now, the problem is, there is not 1 WS we are implementing, there is one WS which the client component hits, this initiates a series (5 more) of WSs which gather data from their respective data stores and finally provide the data back to the original WS, which then delivers the data back to the client component. So, if the requested data becomes huge, then, this will be a serious problem for our internal communication channel. So, what do you guys suggest? What can be done to avoid overloading of the communication channel between the internal WS and at the same time, also delivering the data to the client component.

  Can someone tell me if there is a webpage that lists the official Google limit on emails sent from a Google Apps Script? In testing my little script I got a Service invoked too many times: email (# 59) and now I can't send any more emails. The obvious place for this information would be in the MailApp.sendEmail documentation. But, that does not say anything about a limit. I found this discussion on the google forum from 2/11/10 where users discuss about a 100 or 500 emails/day limit, with a 24 hour ban, but no one from Google provided an official answer. Note that this is for google apps script, which is different from the google app engine, which does have well published limits.

  Hi there. I'm trying to use XSL-stylesheets in order to transform some generated XML-data to HTML-output. The architecture that I'm using is as follows: [Client Side] Web-Browser = [Server Side: Glassfish v3] JSP-pages - Web-Services. My web service generates some XML-data, then I want to format it with XSL-stylesheet, pass the result to JSP-page and show to user. I'm using JAXP for XSL-transformations and I want to create a javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamSource object with XSL-file stream for the javax.xml.transform.Transformer object, but I'm having a difficulty with specifying the path/URL for the XSL-file. So the question is: where should I put my XSL-stylesheets in a project and how should I access them from code? I'm using Glassfish v3 and NetBeans 6.8. Thanks.

  Hi, Is there a way or at least a workaround on masking default webmail urls or disabling access webmail urls so users will not be able to change their passwords? Website is PHP based and is using apache server under a shared hosting account. The thing is that http://domain.com/webmail will let users access the main panel where they can change their individual passwords. We do not need this. Most solutions point to changing httpd.conf which we are not allowed to change since this is on a shared hosting service. I'm looking for at least a workaround to this issue. How about disabling it through their browsers if my client is under a network server, this would be a decent workaround isn't it? or are there any more suggestions aside from this? Please help. This is my urgent issue. Thank you very much!

  If I were to extricate my current membership provider from my solution, i.e. as a dll and expose it as a web service with it's own db, how would I model the relationships with regards to SOA design. For example I have a table: USER id, name, lastname, username, password, role. and table PRODUCT id, name, price, createdate, userid the foreign key being userid to table user. How would I model the relationship and/or query the db. If I wanted to get all products that were uploaded today for example, before I would query: SELECT u.name, u.lastname, u.username, p.* FROM PRODUCT p INNER JOIN USER u ON p.userid = u.id WHERE createdate = '05/05/2010' Now that I don't have the table within the database how would I perform this query?   Hello everybody. I'm building a Visual Studio Package and associated with it, I have an app.config file (which contains some information about connecting to a WCF service). As far as I can tell, this package is actually connecting to the devnev.exe.config configuration file (if I use AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetupInformation.ConfigurationFile), it will retrieve the path to the devnev.exe.config Firstly, is this correct? Shouldn't the package automatically pick up the app.config file? If this is the case, then how can I make the project use the app.config file? I'm running VS2010 Ultimate, programming in C#. Thanks!

  I have a service that accepts Xmla queries for Analysis services, often times those queries themselves will have a string that contains a fragment that looks something like {{[Time].[Year].[All]}} Recording these requests works fine but when I try to re-run the test I get an error from the test runner... Request failed: Exception occurred: There is no context parameter with the name ' [Time].[Year].[All]' in the WebTestContext This was confusing for some time but when I asked VS to generate a coded version of the test I was able to see the problem a bit better. VS searches for the '{{' and '}}' tokens and makes changes, considering those areas to refer to Context parameters, the code looks like this.Context["\n\t[Time].[Year].[All]"].ToString() Anyone know how to instruct Visual Studio to not perform this replacement operation? Or another way around this issue?

  I am using .NET and am creating a desktop app/service that will display notifications in the corner of my Desktop when certain events are triggered. I don't want to use a regular Message Box b/c that would be too intrusive. I want notifications to slide into view and then fade out after a few seconds. I am thinking of something that will act very much like the Outlook alerts that one gets when a new message arrives. The question is: Should I use WPF for this? • Ruby Rack: startup and teardown operations (Tokyo Cabinet connection)

  I have built a pretty simple REST service in Sinatra, on Rack. It's backed by 3 Tokyo Cabinet/Table datastores, which have connections that need to be opened and closed. I have two model classes written in straight Ruby that currently simply connect, get or put what they need, and then disconnect. Obviously, this isn't going to work long-term. I also have some Rack middleware like Warden that rely on these model classes. What's the best way to manage opening and closing the connections? Rack doesn't provide startup/shutdown hooks as I'm aware. I thought about inserting a piece of middleware that provides reference to the TC/TT object in env, but then I'd have to pipe that through Sinatra to the models, which doesn't seem efficient either; and that would only get be a per-request connection to TC. I'd imagine that per-server-instance-lifecycle would be a more appropriate lifespan. Thanks!
