• Godaddy registrar and Amazon Web Services EC2/Route 53

  Ok - I currently have a site hosted on Godaddy and they are the registrar for my domain. My goal is to have my site hosted on AWS with an EC2 server, which I have already set up and it is ready to go. In order to migrate my domain name to Amazon I have set up an A record with Godaddy and another A record with Route 53 (Amazon's routing service) with both of them pointing to the new static IP of the AWS site. My question is - Godaddy told me that I should leave my nameservers as Godaddy since my email is with them and set up an MX record wit Amazon pointing to it. Does this sound correct? Can you leave nameservers with Godaddy and have A records pointed to the new IP? Are there any benefits/cons to this? *FOR THE RECORD - My site is DOWN right now after doing the change - Godaddy says it will take 2 hours to come back, but I'm not sure if their nameserver recommendation is correct.

  Group policy prevents several configuration settings on my Windows 7 / Vista machines. Since my domain account is a member of the local Administrators group on these boxes, is there still a way to override them locally? For instance, GP prevents changing the power management option "Turn off the display" (even changing it from cmd fails: POWERCFG -X -monitor-timeout-ac 60 = "An unexpected error condition has occurred. Unable to perform operation. You may not have permission to perform this operation.") Even when logging on with a local account and not the domain account, it's not possible to change the setting anymore ..

I have read the necessary documentation but am lacking in guidance on how to implement code that would accomplish this. I am specifically interested in obtaining the MAC address of nearby access points or at a minimum the MAC address of the currently connected Wifi access point. Is it possible to do this using WMI in Windows, specifically on Windows XP SP3 and later? Any pointers on how to do this are greatly appreciated.

  In my organization, we are just beginning to use the Entity Framework for some applications. In the past, we have pushed developers to utilize stored procedures for all database access. In addition to helping with SQL injection, we tried to grant logins access to stored procedures only to keep security relatively tight. Although inserting, updating, and deleting are easily done through stored procedures in the EF, it appears to be difficult to use stored procedures to query data with EF. However, using LINQ or Entity SQL and allowing EF to create the queries means giving a user read access to the entire database. How have others handled this dilemma?

  We are using the old urchin.js and are tracking 2 subdomains under the same profile. We have a “track subdomains” advanced filter defined (as per http://www.google.com/support/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55524) as well as 2 segments for presenting data in the reports: hostname matches exactly subdomain1.domain-name.com and hostname matches exactly subdomain2.domain-name.com When I apply these segments to our Top Content Overview report, the All Visits total for PageViews does not correspond to the # of visits reported for each subdomain. For example: All Visits = 53 subdomain1 = 24 subdomain2 = 32 Is there any reason as to why we would be seeing this discrepancy in numbers?

  The project is hosted on a tfs server and I need to access the build number which I assume is automatically generated when ever you build a project. I need to retrieve that build number and display it on the web pages so that QAs and testing people know exactly which build they are working on. I found how to create customize build numbers in the following link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa395241(v=vs.100).aspx but it dose not solve my problem as I do not have access to the build definition file. I am looking for some kind of post deployment task which can access the build number or may be generate one and probably write it down to a file, from where I can read it.   It would be absolutely awesome if someone could help me out here. I have a domain, let's call it "example.com". I have wildcard subdomains setup and working great. The only problem is I can't get htaccess to see anything else like subdomain.example.com/profile/some_name/some_id_number/. In fact, I can type any garbage after the domain and it will still just show me the home screen. The server doesn't even really show signs that it's even seeing it there. Any ideas?

  I have a custom class which I want to "load" inside the firstViewController and then access it from other classes by segues. My Problem is, I can't even access and change the instance variable inside the firstViewController. Somehow I'm "loading" it wrong. Here is the code I used until now: inside viewController.h @property (strong, nonatomic) myClass *newClass; inside viewController.m @synthesize newClass; I then try to access it by: self.newClass.string = @"myString"; if(newClass.string == @"myString"){ NSLog(@"didn't work"); } Well, I get "didn't work". Why is that? When I write myClass *newClass = [myClass new]; It does work. But the class and its properties gets overwritten every time the ViewController loads again. What would you recommend? • How can I limit the number of registrants to an event?

  I've set up a basic html/php submission form where people can register for our event, but need a way to replace the submission form webpage with one that reads something like "We have reached our registration limit" when we reach a certain number of submitted forms. Our database is MySQL (if that makes a difference) I've looked around on the web but people either say to count the entries by hand, or the ones that do have an automated system use CMS like drupal or joomla. Is it possible to setup an automated script that will do this?

  Apache is the front-end to my web app then I use mod_rewrite to proxy the request to JBoss. So far this sounds pretty standard, but the problem I am having is: if I access the app directly through jboss @ http://localhost:8080/app/page?raw=foo%26bar&page=1: request.getParameter("raw") = foo&bar If I access the app through Apache @ http://localhost/foo%26bar&page=1 request.getParameter("raw") = foo So somewhere along the way, the %26 is lost and replaced with an & which chops the raw variable. This is my Apache rewrite rule. RewriteRule ^/(.*) \ http://localhost:8080/app/home?raw=$1 [L,P] The Apache access log shows: http://localhost/foo%26bar&page=1 And the rewrite log shows: http://localhost:8080/app/home?raw=foo&bar&page=1 But I want the request to be: http://localhost:8080/app/home?raw=foo%26bar&page=1 I am pretty sure that this also occurs with slashes / too so to me this is some sort of encoding issue. Is there a way to proxy the URL untouched? Can't seem to figure this one out.

  Need to share few information regarding SSL certificates and there types, which SSL certificates are widely used etc. There are several SSL certificates available in the market today inorder to secure your domains, multiple subdomains, your applications and code too. Few of the details are mentioned below. CheapSSL certificates available today are Standard Rapidssl certificate, Thwate SSL 123 etc certificates which are basic level certificates. Most of these cheap SSL certificates are domain-validated only and don't provide the greatest trust for your customers. This means you shouldn't use cheap SSL certificates on e-commerce stores or other public-facing sites that require people to trust the site. EV certificates I found Geotrust Truebusinessid with EV certificate which is one of the cheapest certificate available in market today, you can also find Thwate, Versign EV version of certificates. Its designed to prevent phishing attacks better than normal SSL certificates. What makes an EV Certificate so special? An SSL Certificate Provider has to do some extensive validation to give you one including: Verifying that your organization is legally registered and active, Verifying the address and phone number of your organization, Verifying that your organization has exclusive right to use the domain specified in the EV Certificate, Verifying that the person ordering the certificate has been authorized by the organization, Verifying that your organization is not on any government blacklists. SSL WILDCARD CERTIFICATES, SSL Wildcard Certificates are big money-savers. An SSL Wildcard Certificate allows you to secure an unlimited number of first-level sub-domains on a single domain name. For example, if you need to secure the following websites: * www.yourdomain.com * secure.yourdomain.com * product.yourdomain.com * info.yourdomain.com * download.yourdomain.com * anything.yourdomain.com and all of these websites are hosted on the multiple server box, you can purchase and install one Wildcard certificate issued to *.yourdomain.com to secure all these sites. SAN CERTIFICATES, are interesting certificates and are helpfull if you want to secure multiple domains by generating single CSR and can install the same certificate on your additional sites without generating new CSRs for all the additional domains. CODE SIGNING CERTIFICATES, A code signing certificate is a file containing a digital signature that can be used to sign executables and scripts in order to verify your identity and ensure that your code has not been tampered with since it was signed. This helps your users to determine whether your software can be trusted. Scroll to the chart below to compare cheap code signing certificates. A code signing certificate allows you to sign code using a private and public key system similar to how an SSL certificate secures a website. When you request a code signing certificate, a public/private key pair is generated. The certificate authority will then issue a code signing certificate that contains the public key. A certificate for code signing needs to be signed by a trusted certificate authority so that the operating system knows that your identity has been validated. You could still use the code signing certificate to sign and distribute malicious software but you will be held legally accountable for it. You can sign many different types of code.   When user registers on my web site, web site sends user email confirmation link. Subject: Please confirm your email address Body:Please open this link in your browser to confirm your email address: http://www.postjobfree.com/a/c301718062444f96ba0e358ea833c9b3 This link will expire on: 6/9/2012 8:04:07 PM EST. If my web site sends that email to GMaill (either @gmail.com or another domain that's handled by Google Apps) and that user never emailed to email -- then GMail not only puts the email to spam folder, but also adds prominent red warning:Be careful with this message. Similar messages were used to steal people's personal information. Unless you trust the sender, don't click links or reply with personal information. Learn more That warning really scares many of my users, so they are afraid to open that link and confirm their email. What can I do about it? Ideally I would like that message end up in user's inbox, not spam folder. But at least how do I prevent that scary message? • Samba4 [homes] share

  I am having issues with the [homes] share. OS is Ubuntu 12.04. I've installed samba 4.0.3, bind9 dlz, ntp, winbind, everything but pam modules, and did all the tests from https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO. Running getent passwd and getent user work just fine. Creating a simple share works just fine too. I can manage the users, GPOs, and DNS from the windows mmc snap-ins. I can join winxp,7,8 to the domain and log on perfectly. I can change my passwords from windows, etc..etc.. I could say that everything is fine and be happy :) buuuut, no, home directories do not work. Searching in here, and on our good friend google I gathered that a simple [homes] read only = no path = /storage-server/users/ and mapping the user's home folder in dsa.msc to \\server-001\username or \\server-001\homes should get me a home share I could map for my user homedir. If I map the user homedir to this simple share it works. What I want is that I dont have to go and manually make a new folder on linux everytime I create a new user on windows. It looks like permissions but I cant find any documentation on this (yes I've tried the manpages, but its hard to tell with so many options on man smb.conf alone).
