• What should I use for the filepath if I'm developing from my desktop?

  I'm having an extremely difficulty time getting the flowplayer to show up and the worst part is I have no idea what is wrong because I'm not getting any error messages! I have an external javascript file: C:/desktop/mysite/js/jq/plugins.js calling $f() from: C:/desktop/mysite/thirdparty/flowplayer/flowplayer.js the swf files also live there...   I know this is not a programming question. Let's try to label it a programming community question so that it doesn't get closed. I've been wondering what makes the programming community so prone to helping others in stackoverflow. Is this something particular to programmers? Do you think lawyers and accountants would help other lawyers and programmers as we do? What makes you come back to stackoverflow every day? It would be great to have an answer per reason so that we can get the list of reasons. In my case, I come to stackoverflow to ask questions that I can't solve quickly, and to test how good I am when answering questions. So far I’ve failed miserably at trying to answer questions but it has helped me understand how little I know.

• Open Source Embedded Database Options for .Net Applications

  I have a .Net 4.0 WPF application that requires an embedded database. MS Access doesn't work on 64 bit Windows I'm told. And I having issues with SSCE: Unable to load DLL 'sqlceme35.dll': This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800736B1) sqlceme35.dll is installed into my application's program files directory, so I can't seem to figure out why Windows XP Pro doesn't see it. I was wondering about other embedded databases options I might use that work on both 32 and 64 bit windows. Any suggestions?

• Help a Python newbie with a Django model inheritance problem

  I'm working on my first real Django project after years of PHP programming, and I am running into a problem with my models. First, I noticed that I was copying and pasting code between the models, and being a diligent OO programmer I decided to make a parent class that the other models could inherit from: class Common(model.Model): self.name = models.CharField(max_length=255) date_created = models.DateTimeField(auto_now_add=True) date_modified = models.DateTimeField(auto_now=True) def __unicode__(self): return self.name class Meta: abstract=True So far so good. Now all my other models extend "Common" and have names and dates like I want. However, I have a class for "Categories" were the name has to be unique. I assume there should be a relatively simple way for me to access the name attribute from Common and make it unique. However, the different methods I have tried to use have all failed. For example: class Category(Common): def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs): self.name.unique=True Spits up the error "Caught an exception while rendering: 'Category' object has no attribute 'name' Can someone point me in the right direction?

• Cannot Debug Visual Basic 6 ActiveX Component On 64-bit OS

  Hi, The situation might sound a bit weird but I have to play with what I have. There's a Win2003 64-bit server OS and a legacy application written using Visual Studio 6. The app consists of two parts: ActiveX components written in VB6 and C++ code which uses them. I need to debug the components' code. I installed Visual Studio 6 on the server and I'm able to step into the component's code. Then I got following situation: 1) C++ code works until it needs to instantiate component A. 2) At this step we switch to VB6 and start debugging Component's A. 3) In the very beginning component A creates an instance of a class C exposed by component B. At this step VB6 debugger shows error message with title "OLEDB32.DLL" and following text: "Failed to load resource DLL C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\System\Ole DB\OLEDB32R.DLL" Additional information: The last step in initialization of the class C is opening an ADO connection to SQL server using OLEDB provider. I'd appreciate any ideas on how resolve this problem. Thanks in advance.

All of my attempts to move the blackNotePanel over by an arbitrary width -- wrapping it a BorderLayout, a MigLayout, etc. -- have failed or changed the spacing of the GridLayout radically. Any suggestions on how to move this over to the right by an arbitrary amount in pixels?

• AD-Integrated DNS failure: "Access was Denied"

  I have a single Windows 2008 R2 server configured as a domain controller with Active Directory Domain Services and DNS Server. The DNS Server was recently uninstalled and reinstalled in an attempt to fix a (possibly unrelated) problem; the event log was previously flooded with errors (#4000, "The DNS Server was unable to open Active Directory...") which reinstalling did not fix. However, while before it was at least showing and resolving names from the local network (slowly), now it's showing nothing at all. (The original error started with a #4015 error "The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory," followed by a long string of #4000 and a few #4004. This may have been caused when a new DNS name was recently added, but I can't be sure of the timing.) Attempting to manage the DNS through Administrative Tools > DNS brings up an error: The server SERVERNAME could not be contacted. The error was: Access was denied. Would you like to add it anyway? Selecting yes just puts a SERVERNAME item on the list, but with all the configuration options grayed out. I attempted editing my hosts file as per this post but to no avail. Running dcdiag, it does identify the home server properly, but fails right away testing connectivity with: Starting test: Connectivity The host blahblahblahyaddayaddayadda could not be resolved to an IP address. Check the DNS server, DHCP, server name, etc. Got error while checking LDAP and RPC connectivity. Please check your firewall settings. ......................... SERVERNAME failed test Connectivity Adding the blahblahblahyaddayaddayadda address to hosts (pointing at 127.0.0.1), the connectivity test succeeded but it didn't seem to solve the fundamental problem (Access was denied) so I hashed it out again. Primary DNS server is properly pointing at 127.0.0.1 according to ipconfig /all. And the DNS server is forwarding requests to external addresses properly (if slowly), but the resolving of local network names is borked. The DNS database itself is small enough that I am (grudgingly) able to rebuild it if need be, but the DNS Server doesn't seem willing to let me work with (or around) it at all. (and yes before you ask there are no system backups available) Where do I go from here? • Teaching coworkers LINQ...

  I have set myself upon a journey to educate my coworkers (all have accepted my mission, even the boss). Every day I seem to find a piece of code that could have been less error prone if my coworkers knew more about the framework, better-know-framework (in courtesy of DNR ;)) is part two of my teaching process. First part is teaching my coworkers about LINQ, what it can do for them and how it is written. My big question is where are all the good basic resources for LINQ education, everything if find is tightly coupled to Linq2Sql or all other sorts of material. Neither have I been able to find a tutorial for the actual linq syntax (except a specification of it all). (I hope this haven't been asked before but if it has please say so, cause then my searching skills have failed ;) )

• Why does Opera parse my web page as XML?

  I just tried viewing my website http://www.logmytime.de/ in Opera (version 10.50) for the first time and for some reason it gives me an "xml parsing failed error" and refuses to display the web page. I can choose to "Reparse the document as HTML" and then the page works fine, but that's hardly a solution to my problem. The weird thing is that the error still occurs after setting a HTML (instead of XTHML) doctype: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> I checked the source output from the browser to make sure I did not make any mistake. I even viewed the same web page in Firebug and it shows a Content-Type of text/html; . So, why does Opera still try to parse my web page as XML? Thanks, Adrian

• Getting Cabal to work with GHC 6.12.1

  I've installed the latest GHC package (6.12.1) on OS X, but I can't get Cabal to work. I've removed the version I had previously that worked with GHC 6.10 and tried to re-install from scratch. The latest Cabal version available for download is 1.6.0.2. However, when I try to build this I get the following error: Configuring Cabal-1.6.0.2... Setup: failed to parse output of 'ghc-pkg dump' From what I've found searching, this seems to suggest that the version of Cabal is too old for the version of GHC. Is there any way to get Cabal to work with GHC 6.12.1 yet? EDIT: To be clear, I'm trying to set-up cabal-install.

When app is stared, it will play some mp3 file using AVFramework. And also initializes Audiotoolbox. In simulator, I'm able to record and play. • Looking for an HQL builder (Hibernate Query Language)

  I'm looking for a builder for HQL in Java. I want to get rid of things like: StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder() .append("select stock from ") .append( Stock.class.getName() ) .append( " as stock where stock.id = ") .append( id ); I'd rather have something like: HqlBuilder builder = new HqlBuilder() .select( "stock" ) .from( Stock.class.getName() ).as( "stock" ) .where( "stock.id" ).equals( id ); I googled a bit, and I couldn't find one. I wrote a quick & dumb HqlBuilder that suits my needs for now, but I'd love to find one that has more users and tests than me alone. Note: I'd like to be able to do things like this and more, which I failed to do with the Criteria API: select stock from com.something.Stock as stock, com.something.Bonus as bonus where stock.someValue = bonus.id ie. select all stocks whose property someValue points to any bonus from the Bonus table. • Tracking graphics tablet input in C#

  I'm writing an XNA application with C#, and I want to be able to control the application with a graphics tablet. All I need to be able to do is track the position and pressure of the pen on the tablet, it would be nice to have some built in gesture recognition but I'm willing to build that myself if needed. My first attempt at this was to use the vbtablet library. However, when I sent this to a friend it failed to work. It seems that the underlying technology is quite old and not supported by some tablets. My second attempt is to play with the Microsoft.Ink system. This looks promising, but I know very little about this subject and I'm struggling to make it work properly - for example I can't find how to read the raw tablet input and disable mouse pointer mode on the tablet when using an InkOverlay. What's the best system to use and what good documentation is there for a beginner in this field?
