  • Fix for Visual Studio 2005 not showing filename or line on errors in web pages when compiling?

    A project I'm on requires Visual Studio 2005. One annoyance is that when a website project in the solution, any compile errors from .aspx or .ascx files show up like: (0,0): warning CS0168: The variable 'ex' is declared but never used (0,0): warning CS0162: Unreachable code detected (0,0): warning CS0168: The variable 'ex' is declared but never used (0,0): warning CS0168: The variable 'ex' is declared but never used How can I track these down? Is there an option I'm missing that gives me filename and line numbers?

  • How can I get the fully qualified name of an assembly from it's basic name?

    I'm currently writing a custom forms application that allows a user to design a data capture form. I store the field's ControlType and ControlAssembly in the database and then create them on the forms at runtime. For example: ControlType = `System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox`. ControlAssembly= `System.Web`. So I can therefor create a fully qualified name and create the control doing the following: string target = Assembly.CreateQualifiedName("System.Web", field.ControlType); Type type = Type.GetType(target); Control control = Activator.CreateInstance(type) as Control; But, this will cause an error as "System.Web" is not a valid assembly name. The assembly name itself has to be fully qualified, i.e. System.Web.Extensions would be: "System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" Is there any way I can get the fully qualified name of the assembly System.Web without having to store the entirity of the version, culture and PKT?

    I have a Perl script to open this page http://svejo.net/popular/all/new/ and filter the names of the posts but except headers everything seems encrypted. Nothing can be read. When I open the same page in a browser everything looks fine including the source code. How is it possible to encrypt a page for a script and not for a browser? My Perl script sends the same headers as my browser (Google Chrome).

    Hello, I am needing to build an application that stores data locally and then synchronizes with a remote MS SQL database. I am not sure how to go about doing this. Enter data offline on a form and store the data. Synchronize the data with a remote MS SQL database when online. There will be many users who enter data offline, the local database on each pc needs to update when online and grab the 30 most recent records for use offline. Example: Each day users will enter data on their "form". The users will be offline. The users will return to the office and need to sync with the "online" database. The next morning the users will need to sync with the online database before going offline. They will need to have offline access to the 30 most recent records. (They will use the 30 records for charting/graphing while they are offline) I am very new to building apps. I have VS 2010. I am wondering where to start? What language to use? Is there a "framework" for doing this type of app? Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • How can I kill off a Python web app on GAE early following a redirect?

    Hi Disclaimer: completely new to Python from a PHP background Ok I'm using Python on Google App Engine with Google's webapp framework. I have a function which I import as it contains things which need to be processed on each page. def some_function(self): if data['user'].new_user and not self.request.path == '/main/new': self.redirect('/main/new') This works fine when I call it, but how can I make sure the app is killed off after the redirection. I don't want anything else processing. For example I will do this: class Dashboard(webapp.RequestHandler): def get(self): some_function(self) #Continue with normal code here self.response.out.write('Some output here') I want to make sure that once the redirection is made in some_function() (which works fine), that no processing is done in the get() function following the redirection, nor is the "Some output here" outputted. What should I be looking at to make this all work properly? I can't just exit the script because the webapp framework needs to run. I realise that more than likely I'm just doing things in completely the wrong way any way for a Python app, so any guidance would be a great help. Hopefully I have explained myself properly and someone will be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks

  • Why ASP.NET menu control ignores roles in Web.sitemap?

    Hi, I have a website with a menu based on sitemap. ActiveDirectoryRoleProvider is a custom class. securityTrimmingEnabled of sitemap provider is set to true. Now, nevertheless the roles set in the sitemap file, site menu displays every sitemap entity. So for example if I have in sitemap a node with roles="*", a second one with roles="Administrators" and a third one with roles="Foo" and I login as a member of Administrators group but not Foo group, the site menu will display all three items. On the other hand, if I have a node which does not specify roles attribute but has children, this node will never be displayed. If I put: <%= HttpContext.Current.User.IsInRole("Administrators") ? "Admin" : "Not admin"%> <%= HttpContext.Current.User.IsInRole("Foo") ? "Foo" : "Not foo"%> before the menu, it displays that I'm Admin, but Not foo, which is just fine. So if it knows that I'm Admin but Not foo, why does it continue to display Foo's sitemap nodes? Note: changing authorizations has no effect on the menu. It continues to show every item, even for the pages I'm unable to access.

    It was hard to title this question. :) I have a user control that is used to display a list of lookup items in my database and a delete button for each item (Editor User Control below). The delete button has an onClientClick event used to display a confirmation dialog in JavaScript. On page one, the confirmation pops up and functions correctly. The overall structure is: Master Page Page Editor User Control List of items with delete button On page two, the confirmation pops up but regardless of the answer, the page posts back anyway. The structure of this page is: Master Page Page User Control Editor User Control List of items with delete button For some reason, this makes a difference in how the delete button is rendered. Page one: <input type="image" name="ctl00...RequestTypesDataList$ctl01$ctl01" src="Images/Disable.png" alt="Delete" onclick="return ProcessDeleteCommand(1);" /> Page two: <input type="image" name="ctl00...RequestTypesDataList$ctl07$ctl01" src="Images/Disable.png" alt="Delete" onclick="return ProcessDeleteCommand(2);WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions(&quot;ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$RequestCreator1$RequestTypeEditor1$RequestTypesDataList$ctl07$ctl01&quot;, &quot;&quot;, true, &quot;&quot;, &quot;&quot;, false, false))" /> Does anyone know why page two renders WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions after my JS check?     I am building a Sharepoint web part that will be used by all users. The web part connects to a web service which needs credentials with higher privileges than common users. I hard coded credentials in the web part's code. query.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("username", "password", "domain"); query is an instance of the web service class This may not be a good approach. In regard with security, source code of the web apart is available to people who are not allowed to see the credential. This is bad enough, But is there any other drawback of this approach? How to prevent hard coding credentials into the source code? Thanks

  • How do the do that? Transparent foreground on a web page

    I really can't find the right Google terms to track this down. But you're all quite smart so thought I'd post it here. You know how sometimes you are on a good site and you click a button (like to submit a form) and the form doesn't go away, instead, the foreground becomes transparent and it contains a message of some kind, or another page. The message is at the forefront but the previous page is still mostly visible behind it - how do they do that? I'm assuming it's an AJAX-esque trick.

  • Why is my web page left-aligned on iPad?

    I recently built a site and centered it using margin: 0 auto. I also wrapped elements in a .wrapper class with a width set to 960px and then had the parent element extend across the whole browser. When I view the Brands screen on an iPad though, the site is left-aligned and does not extend across the whole window. Any thoughts to why this might be happening, and how to correct it?   • Programatticaly grabing text from a web page that is dynamically generated.

    There is a website I am trying to pull information from in perl, however the section of the page I need is being generated using javascript so all you see in the source is <div id="results"></div> I need to somehow pull out the contents of that div and save it to a file using perl/proxies/whatever. e.g. the information I want to save would be document.getElementById('results').innerHTML; I am not sure if this is possible or if anyone had any ideas or a way to do this. I was using a lynx source dump for other pages but since I cant straight forward screen scrape this page I came here to ask about it!

  • How do you share pre-calculated data between calls to a Rails web service?

    I have a Rails app that allows users to build up a network structure and then ask questions about how to navigate around it. When adding nodes and connections these are just saved to the database. At the point you make a query of the network I calculate the shortest path from any node to any other node. Constructing this in memory takes a while (something I need to fix), but once it is there, you can instantly get the answer to any of these path questions. The question is... How do I share this network between calls to the website, so each request doesn't regenerate the paths network each time? Note: I am hosting this on apache server using passenger (mod ruby) Thoughts?

  • Windows XP 32-bit + RocketRaid 622 + 4 x 3TB = not quite a RAID setup

    I'm looking to make a 6TB RAID 10 array from my new pile of drives under Windows XP 32-bit, however they are only for auxiliary storage. After adding all the drives to an array, and initializing them XP sees only a fraction of the storage, 2TB. I'm assuming this has to do with MBR vs GPT. Is making a series of 2TB volumes and then spanning my only solution? Most questions online have to do with booting from this setup, but I'm just using them as extra storage. Hardware: 4 x 3TB Hitachi Deskstars + RocketRaid 622 + Sans Digital TR8M TowerRAID. The array is connected via eSATA.

    Hello everybody, I have multi-step form and user can navigate to any page to modify or add information. There is a menu that shows progress and steps user completed. This menu allows to navigate to any step user completed or going to complete. Inspite of big button "Save and Continue" some users click this menu to navigate further. I have to check - if values have changed in a form and ask: "Save changes? Yes/No". What is the best way (with minimum code) you suggest me to check if form values have changed.
